Today, the African Commonwealth cemented it's withdrawal from the Nuclear Test Ban treaty it once ratified and signed with the UN. Using a modified B2 stealth bomber to deliver the military science departments latest development, the WX-2w75 "Mithras" warhead, into the far, deserted reaches of the Atlantic Ocean. Integratable into either bomb or missile, this nuclear device(dubbed a "Doomsday device" by irate demonstrators earlier this morning) carries a 75.000 megaton warhead. CAF and RCAF officials involved in the test said that it went off without a hitch, and that the weapon would be an ideal "nation-nuke", to be used in the grim possibility of a scenario that calls for AMD(Assured Mutual Destruction).
FACTS:
- The Mithras is a purely atomic bomb, deviating from the traditional Commonwealth nuclear program that relied on developing hydrogen bombs. Instead, a series of silicon-based chain reactors amplifies the bomb payload for maximum destruction.
- Using reliable monitoring software, RCAF drones established:
- That the nuclear fireball lasted over 8 minutes.
- If used in civilized setting, the warhead would create air blasts able to cause near-certain fatalities in a radius of over 110 kilometers, and cause widespread destruction in a radius of almost 300 kilometers!
While this test has created widespread condemnation from around the world, just like the earlier Commonwealth tests(using devices of 300 and 600 megaton respectively), CAF officials state that the test was necessary, since such devices would need to work properly if they were to be any deterrant in a cold war situation.
Other, more concerned voices, critiziced the government for testing a device that might possibly anger the Elias/Roycelandian/Rhodesian coalition(with whom the African Commonwealth is fighting a covert war) into deploying WMD on Commonwealth land. General Ndelebe, nominal president of the AC, laid these fears to rest in a press conference this evening, stating that the test was conducted far from any hostile naval assets, and that it would not be used save in an end-of-the-world, AMD-type scenario.
