First Successful Fusion Test

"Try increasing the particle flow" suggested Dr. Thomas Smilton

"Okay, increasing flow to 20% capacity" replied his assitant

"Start the test reactor again"

A slow whirring started, gradually rising in pitch and speed. Once the particle accelerator was at full speed the particle guns at each end of the long accelerator tube filled the mid-chambers separating the guns from the accelerator with Hydrogen atoms. Once the chambers were 20% filled with atoms a door opened and the atoms were pulled into the accelerator by a powerful magnetic force. They sped toward the centre and each other, and the temperature of the accelerator rose rapidly. Within seconds there was a boom as the particles collided. The voltmeter on the control panel rose sharply and for a moment, the two scientist's hearts leaped. However, the needle quickly dropped back to its original level.

"Damn, still not able to produce enough power" said Smilton in frustration

"Do you want to call it a night?" asked his assistant.

Smilton stood silent for a few seconds

"No, try it again, this time increase the particle flow to 60%"

"60%! The chamber can't handle that much heat, the reaction would blow this whole place!"

"Just do it"

The chamber was brought back up to speed and the process restarted, the particles were, once again, flying toward each other at massive speeds. This time there was a much louder boom and the voltmeter rose well past the point it had during the last test.

"Sir, its gone above the threshold! We did it!" shouted the assistant

"Alright, try the reactor test, set the accelerator up for constant particle discharge at 60%"

This time, the particle guns were set to release a constant stream of Hydrogen atoms, to produce a stable, consistant reaction.

The voltmeter shot off the scale and remained there, stable.

They had done it, they had performed the first successful Fusion Reaction test.

A broadcast was released from the Science Department of the People who are Free the next day

At 2023 hours FST (Free Standard Time) the Fusion Testing Lab in Free City successfully completed a test of its fusion reaction facility. The test reactor successfully produced a stable power supply. This is the dawn of a new scientific era for the people of PwaF! Production of full-size and vehicle-sized fusion reaction will commence after the proper research has been completed. We hope to be able to produce these reactors within the year (OOC: 1 NS Year = 1 RL Week) and offer other nations the chance to purchase these reactors. Please inform us if your nation would be interested in contracting us to construct fusion-based reactors in your nation.
