Kelonia aims to bring Reform to Uzbek Region

OOC: In case someone is the 'owner' of Uzbekistan or Turkmenistan on NS - this is all based on the RL Uzbekistan/Turkmenistan, and information taken from news sources and the CIA factbook.

IC: After watching the situation in Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan for several months, the decision has been taken to consider placing a force inside the country to restore human rights, among other things. Our reasons are defined below:

Human rights concerns within the country. President Islom Karimov of Uzbekistan has been suspected of 'rigging' the elections in his country, while Saparmurat Niyazov of Turkmenistan chooses not even to hide behind this veil of acceptability, simply holding absolute power and punishing opposition severely.

Both countries are large 'transit points' for heroin and heroin precursors bound for the world market - while a little, token effort has been made in Turkmenistan to eradicate the actual refinement of narcotics, the country remains a bottleneck for the transfer from the area to the worldwide market.

Terrorism. Both countries, like most of the world, are subject to the risk of terrorism - unfortunately both countries can do/are doing little to remove the risk of terrorists to their own citizens or to remove terrorist cells endangering the rest of the world.

Many of the oldest Kelonian families can trace their roots back to the region, and it saddens us to see the area in this state. We would be pleased to allow the international community to 'watch over' this operation to ensure it is done in a fair and just way...

Update
As the first wave of paratroops were dropped in to establish secure runways for the troops and heavy armour to arrive, squads of Valor Quin Bahil special forces parachuted in to storm major airports and government offices in the capitals, Ashgabat and Toshkent - They encountered very little real resistance, the tactic of 'cutting off the head of the snake' by occupying the government leaving no way for the corrupt regimes to react had left what little military forces they had control over in total disarray....

After pressure to justify what is being portrayed by the Kelonian left-wing press as a forceful invasion, the Kelonian government has issued a statement explaining the reason behind their occupation of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan:

--------------------------------------------

Official Statement from the Offices of the Kelonian Government:

Troops have been placed in the regions of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan after investigation into the depth of the human rights curtailment and almost unchecked drug production and trafficking going on in the area.

Dictators of this type should not, and will not be tolerated. The use of nations as avenues to spread poison through the veins of the world should not, and will not be tolerated. This is not an unjustified aggressive act; The damage these corrupt rulers have done to the land the ancient tribes of Kelonia are descended from is shocking - from Soviet rule that drained the once-fertile lands and seas, leaving the ground contaminated from toxic chemicals and nuclear testing, to corrupt dictators bleeding the soul of the countries dry, the people of these areas have suffered enough.

It is not so long ago that we ourselves were under such oppressive dictatorship, people of Kelonia. Not long ago we suffered the same plight. Should we stand by and see the lands where the seeds of the where we are today were laid be damaged any longer? No - and nor shall we.

~ Vice-Premier Zamantha Flakkov

Quick OOC Note: The reason I'm doing this is because, if no-one else has claimed and reformed the area already, these two countries are the 'problems' in the region - Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan have progressive, forward-looking governments whereas these two are corrupt and oppressive dictatorships - Just so you know I didn't decide to pick on a random country to 'claim land' from - heh.

--------------------------------------------

In Turkmenistan, the placement of troops had been swift and effectively without counter, the people greeting the soldiers with a wary acceptance, and a few minor skirmishes with groups loyal to Niyazov was all the resistance that seemed forthcoming. The loyalists in fact seemed to be heading north-west, towards the Uzbekistan border...

It seemed Uzbekistan was to prove a much tougher cookie to crack, Karimov loyalists putting up a stronger fight against the Kelonian troops - squads of loyalist fighters engaging squads of infantry, underarmed but taking advantage of the low numbers of foreign troops in the area due to the time it takes to transfer a decent force out to the region.

Things were slowly falling under control in Uzbekistan, but far less quickly than the army had originally theorised, and the resistance was expected to get worse before it got better - the fighters fleeing Turkmenistan were believed to be headed towards the Uzbek city of Urganch, and the army having misread the situation and put the weaker force into that area while dedicating a larger one to the relatively calm Turkmenistan.

This is one big bump... :P

--------------------------------------------

In Toshkent, capital city of Uzbekistan, things were slowly coming under control - attacks from loyalists had begun to desist as the population realised that the 'liberation' front was not an act, and as aid was distributed amongst the poorer people in the area.

The same could not be said for the western city of Nukus, which is where the insurgents from Turkmenistan had arrived, contrary to intelligence that suggested they would arrive at the city of Urganch, south-east of Nukus. Small running gun-battles were going on in the south of the city, the number of troops still small, and losses being taken (6 Kelonian soldiers have been killed so far). New Kelonian forces were arriving all the time, however - Urganch, being not so far away, had been designated as the dropoff point for troops coming into western Uzbekistan.

In Turkmenistan, the army had spent it's time distributing aid among the people and informally greeting the populace. Reaction to the soldiers was warming, and all was peaceful. There was still the occasional battle with loyalists, though most had surged north to Uzbekistan, and those that remained were, for the most part, easily halted.

The army was also busy in relations with neighbouring Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, assuring the governments there that their countries would not be invaded or occupied - Kelonia's aim was to rid the region of the problems of dictators, not simply to seize land, and wanted to open relations with the forward-thinking governments in the area...

OOC: Anyone with claims to the RL nations surrounding Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan, please contact us as we would like to open diplomatic relations with you to help supply aid and support to the areas during this time - Thank you.

Arf, well I was going by Chellis' 'RL Nation Claims' as to whether anyone owned the countries after I looked them up for the news/information stuff - for the sake of a reasonable RP I'll finish this off then we can pretty much say it never happened if you want - Just it'd be a bit silly for my troops to suddenly be 'whisked away', so for RP's sake I'll finish it.

Another big bump... I forgot all about this thread, whoops.
----------------------

Efrejtor (Private 1st Class) Alexei Pachko leant heavily over the machine gun he was manning on top of his BMP-2 fighting vehicle, coated in pale dust from the dry Uzbek ground - His vehicle was the leader of a three-BMP convoy proceeding through central <insert town name here> on a routine patrol - each BMP had taken it's own route but the three vehicles on patrol regularly met up here for the slow drive back to the base on the outskirts of the town.

The place had been used as the main 'border base' for transferance of communications between the main bases in and around the capitals of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan after most of the resistance forces had been suppressed.

As the convoy moved to pass over a large intersection - much larger than most in the town - Pachko, a wiry, bespectacled man who, despite his weak appearance, had the undeniable air of hardiness and quiet confidence that seemed mandatory for the people of the Koia region in eastern Kelonia, the region that Premier Romaninko himself was from, had his attention distracted by a low noise off to his right...
