Does the U.N have any real authority over my country?

If I were to join the U.N. and lets say I passed laws that did not go along with some U.N. resolution, could I be punnished somehow? I mean, does the U.N. send peacekeeping forces, or cut off aide? And what about all the inactive Nations out there, what does the U.N. do with them? :?:

The UN is powerless. Join them, then forget about them.

this brings to mind: why isn't there an NS security council? deligates could be elected and would be presented with RP's....

note: i'm not in the UN, but I think it would be a cool idea.

It's been thought about before. I think it just hasn't happened because the nations that signed themselves up were not respected by the nations who didn't (in other words, those who weren't in the Security Council didn't see it as the real thing, just some people trying to take control) and they gave up.

Although it might have been for different reasons.....

If you were to make a Security Council, you would really need to elect its members, and you would never get enough votes to make it an effective choice. You would need the consent of every UN member, too....

The UN on here, like that of within the real world, is ultimately useless and powerless.

In other words, no, the laws you past wouldnt cause a UN resolution. The closest thing you've to that would be random nations taking it into their own hands via RPed words of discouragement, tariffs, war, or a few other negative things.

Well, the UN does have the power to pass resolutions that effect your nation in the same fashion as your issues (ie the power to make your economy, freedoms, industries, and rankings go up and down. And these rankings can affect your RP (if you are playing on character).

But the UN is not an RP organization. Don't bother.
