The Island States declares war on Phyrric

The Island States
23-04-2004, 22:27
As of [1730 EDT April 23, 2004], The Island States is now engaged in hostilities with Phyrric after they have attacked and destroyed four carrier groups without provocation or warning and allowed countless men to die in the ocean without pickup. They did this as the carrier groups covered our invasion of Allanea, which is now being pulled back because of the possibility of our forces being wiped out by lack of supplies. Our alliance, the UnAPS, is now analyzing the situation.

The Island States is readying the following for future operations against Phyrric's fleets and against East Phyrric (in Haven):

4 Carrier Groups
8 Amphibious Assault Groups
(Ships in each kind of group will be posted later)

50 Infantry Divisions
12 Armored Divisions (6 Divisions of IST-01 Light Tanks/6 divisions of IST-02 Heavy Tanks)
20 Marine divisions

More is being readied for mobilization as we speak.

Hattia has also declared war on Phyrric. We request that Phyrric pick up TIS's survivors. Hattia will at least do the same for Phyrric prisoners...

Pyrrhus was readying his items for a trip to Ilek Vaad when he received message that Island States and Hattia declared war on Phyrric.

"Does this really come as a surprise?" as he addresses the Senator in his chambers.

"Not at all. We have already made a counter declaration, but is there even a point at that? We have already killed thousands upon thousands of sailors. I think we made our point crystal clear."

"They request we pick up the sailors in the water, do we use goldfish nets or wait until they wash up on the shores?"

An army general laughs, "the goldfish nets sir, but I doubt we will find everyones pieces"

"Well, on a serious note, I guess it would be humane to do so. Very well, send word to assist sailors in the water. In the meantime, I want a location of that amphibious fleet. Find them and sink every ship."

"You know that East Phyrric will be assaulted and supplies will be scarse for them. It will be difficult to aid them."

"I am aware of this. Inform them that their lives for the Republic will never be forgotten and their deaths will be avenged. There is not a whole lot more we can do for them. Inform the general to make an offensive attack immediately into Lietuveska. We have over 550,000 militray men and women over there. I want no less than 1,650,000 dead UnAPS allies. Anyone has a weapon, even if it is a pocket knife, kill them. Inform the commander of Epirus I that once all miltary forces have exited East Phyrric. Orbital assault it. No one will get it, leave it as sand."

"yes sir, we might as well, there is no way we can counter the impending attack." says the general, then he leaves the room.

"Are you really going to go to Ilek-Vaad?" asks the senator.

"Not anymore, it appears that issues of safety dictate that I stay here, I have a bad feeling about IV. they may not be as receptive to us as we may have been lead to believe."

"I will address the senate and implement the war powers. We will carry the check book."

"Thanks" walks over to his desk, pushes the intercom button on his phone, "get me the joint chiefs please, put them on conference."

Due to the invasion of Lietuveska, TIS is immediately sending infantry and tank transports to port facilities. They will disembark in one day and begin combat operations once field strength reaches appropriate levels.

First Assault fleet is hereby ordered to conduct search and destroy operations against Phyrric ships in Haven waters. Of immediate priority is the fleet currently besieging Lietuvska. Any Phyrric orbital stations will be destroyed in order to preserve the fleet and the lives of as many allied troops as possible. Two battlegroups of this fleet once helped destroy an entire rebel Phyrric fleet, it is expected that a whole fleet can do the same on its own. Stout hearts and smooth seas, FLTCOM sends.

RE: The growing situation in East Phyrric.

It has been brought to our attention that you have begun molesting shipping in the waters off the region known as East Phyrric. This apparently stems from some sort of disagreement between yourselves, and the Phyrrician government.

We would be inclined to remain out of this argument, and let you settle your differences in whatever barbaric manner you choose, however- it has been brought to the attention of my government that this use of force may result in damage to neutral shipping-including ours, and that your war endangers several necessary trade agreements we have with the Phyrrician government.

I humbly submit that this way of handling whatever it is you're disputing is quite un-necessary, and that Negotiation, as opposed to bloodshed, may yeild better and longer lasting results for all involved parties, while an avoidance of a widened conflict certainly is more preferable.

We can not afford to simply renege on our economic ties to Phyrric, nor can we afford to allow you to blow our ships away. We do not want a war, but if we are forced into one, you will not appreciate the results-we reserve the right to trade with whom we will, unmolested.

We ask that all parties to the conflict, including Phyrric, agree to a temporary cease-fire, and come to our nation to hammer out some kind of settlement, before more people are killed without good reason.

This conflict began with a friendly-fire incident, regardless of the weapon (and our position on Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological weapons of mass destruction is well-known and on record...), and regardless of the reasons, what has followed that incident is both ridiculous, and, regrettable. Your alliance is at war already-and now, you divide and attack each other, like sharks in a feeding frenzy, or rabid dogs held too closely in a kennel, while your primary enemy, whom you all went to war to defeat, sits back in safety and watches the show, his armies no longer pressed for time, rebuilding, his diplomats gathering support while you declare war on one another, and threaten the lawful business of bystanders unrelated to your conflict.

We can assure the safety of your diplomats and the security of the proceedings, should you wish to do the right thing and engage in diplomacy before more blood is shed, and before this turns into a spiralling disaster for you all.

Thank you for your time.

[ooc- There are forces behind the veiled threat, the offer is genuine-the Chancellor doesn't know who is on the right side of this-so she's taking the gamble that the nations involved, while angry, are still reasonable enough to see the advantages of an internaitonal forum to air their greivances and maybe head off a major war-or at least clarify who did what to whom, when, and why, before a final decision of whether to enter this conflict, and on what side, is made.]

Respectfully, your information is incorrect. No ship flying the UnAPS flag, to the best of my knowledge, has attacked any commercial shipping. If you are claiming that a ship was damaged or destroyed by passing into a battle at sea, then that's only the fault of the imbicile who had the misfortune to steer his ship into such.

Also respectfully, you do not know the full situation concerning the so-called "friendly fire" incident. We were content to just cancel Phyrric's membership after he refused to appologize for killing over 60,000 allied troops. If you have a problem with our current side-conflict, then go to Phyrrus, for he is the one who started it by destroying four TIS carrier battlegroups and invading a nation who had not so much as threatened him.

RE: Is this true? What Happened?

Before I commit one soldier to this, Pyrrhus. I'm not going to send my people in without a good reason. I've got thirty million people who are still homeless right now after that war Nguyen got us into while I was laid up, and we're still pretty badly torn up. I won't commit my forces without knowing what's going on, and why-right now, we've got a Navy- but stripping the homeland of ships and troops without knowing the reason and the situation is not something I'm willing to do. What did they threaten you with?

Re: The growing situation in East Phyrric.

To the best of my knowledge, no commercial shipping has been attacked. As several nations have come forward and requested that commerce not be molested, I have granted such requests as to maintain the open seas for free trade.

In reference to earlier memorandums, the Nation of Phyrric has closed the straights between the nations of Phyrric and Ilek Vaad to combat vessels that are declared enemies of the state. Shipping and trade has not been affected in this area either.

As far as starting this conflict, the nation of Phyrric was very content on maintaining neutrality, even recalled all forces from all theaters, until intelligence was received and confirmed on pending attacks on Phyrric soils from the imperialistic nations of Mintar, Edolia, and Scandavian States. The attack on Island States was a self defensive measure to eliminate UnAPS forces from the areas in or about the nation of Phyrric. As this conflict has escalated, negotiations with several members are not an option, the smashing with a sledge hammer got their attention quite nice. There are many nations within UnAPS that has or had declared Phyrric an enemy of the state or alliance. Never before had Phyrric returned such a favor until the offensive measures were taken. War was declared on Phyrric first and my response is justified.

Phyrric has entered into negotiations with several UnAPS nations. These are the nations that have reason and nations that are not at war with Phyrric. It is a small group of UnAPS nations that are carrying this war to the farthest extreme, destroying the alliance in their imperialistic ways, and bringing death to countless of millions.

I have presented my case, not only to yourself, but to others that have taken the time to evaluate with an unbiased and clear conscious. The truth is there.

Warm regards,

Pyrrhus

Fighters are coming from Dacia, the northerneastern province of Phyrric. Where we are currently located in the SW area of Allanea (actually, does not matter, anywhere in that area) the distance is relatively closer than the distance between Phyrric and IV....about half the distance. With fuel tanks, they are within range of fighters. A modern fighter can achieve close to 1000 miles, give or take a couple hundred, appx 50% more with a drop tank.

Admiral Brusilov smirked as he watched the Phyrric ships attempt to withdraw. "Gunnery! Give them a taste of our cannons... And initiate attack pattern 46N..."

The gigantic guns of the 2 Leviathon class battleships, along with the other smaller battleships rotated until they were facing the enemy ships. "Fire!" Once the barrage was fired, the ships began to chase the Phyrric ships.

The battleships and various other ships released a swarm of shells and missiles towards the retreating enemy.

Meanwhile, the carriers in the fleet began launching their Su-37s, and Mig-29Ks. Along with attack and ASW helicopters. The fighters and attack helicopters (some armed with torpedoes) sped behind the barrage towards the Phyrric fleet while the ASW helicopters began dropping sonar bouys and such. Perhaps the Phyrric commander had not known enough about Hattians to know that they hate being caged in, and now that they have messed with the bull, here comes the horns.

HNS Hammer of the Proletariat

Fleet Admiral Alexandrov, in command of the other Leviathon followed his orders to the letter, he was somewhat saddened that he was to kill his former friends, and he had helped in their civil war.

"It appears that the nation of Hattia is just as treacherous as the rest of UnAPS."

"They are sending in their own signature and desire for death."

"That is the way it is then. Counter measures and inform the incoming fleet to initiate the anvil while we hammer down on them. Do not, under any circumstances, and make this clear, that not a single Hattian vessel is to remain afloat when we are done."

"The orders are clear sir. Implementing plan now."

"Full attack formation while the air forces finishes off the CS fleet. Send all naval units to point blank if we have to, kill every single one of them."

The Hattian Fleet is being attacked by a total of 14 Battle Groups, 8 to their north and 6 that came up from the south. The OB is posted earlier as per CS request in other thread (Axackal).

We are disinclined to engage in hostilities with any side and seek only a peaceful resolution for both sides of this conflict, providing refuge and protection for any and all in international waters.

However, should our forces or neutral shipping be attacked,or WMD(Weapons of Mass Destruction) be used by any side of the conflict,we will retaliate in kind with our full nuclear arsenal.

We seek to coordinate with Nuevo Kowloon ships in the matter of protecting marine traffic,as we understand that they are stretched resource-wise in regards to their military assets. We seek to supplement their forces.

The Federal Navy, after careful consideration, has decided to withdraw the 5th Naval Squadron from it's duty station with UnAPS allies, as it is currently nuetral, and any shift in fortunes that would result in a DoW to the Republic would leave this squadron in danger. The squadron is being pulled back to Sevilla Naval Base to re-join it's parent unit the 3rd Battlefleet.

We acknowledge that all ships of this squadron are warships (being, ships owned by the Navy, so it includes the supply ships), and all ships of this squadron will manuever through the area keeping a safe distance away and displaying full colors. Any attack on these columns will be considered an act of war and will result in an immediate Decleration of Hostilities between the Federal Republic and the attacking party, and all ships of the squadron will not hesitate to return fire.

The forces will patrol the area and protect neutral shipping within international waters as well as provide refuge to any forces withdrawing from hostilities.

The Mahabrata carries 4 nuclear-armed cruise missiles with a yield of 50 megatons each. These are seen as last resort weapons and will be used in the event of attacks involving WMD.Please be advised not to attack Saudir vessels or use WMD,which we define as the use of biological, nuclear or chemical weapons as well as any weapons that cause extensive loss of life.

(OOC: Long overdue response. Apologies for taking so long, but I've been remarkably busy of late.

We should probably take each wave separately, so I can avoid accidentally posting losses for you.)

The incoming Phyrric planes found themselves flying into a hornet's nest of missiles and AA fire. The radars, synchronized to detect stealth aircraft, had little trouble picking out the F-22s and B-2s, and for the moment, the outnumbered mix of F-35s and Shildonian-built Harpies seemed to be fairing rather well, staying close to the cover of the fleet's air defense weaponry and engaging the Phyrric planes at long range with their Phoenix AAMs. Nevertheless, four Harpies and fifteen JSFs were lost as the enemy planes closed, and the battleship Powell, under concentrated fire from the Phyrric air force, began to burn.

Beneath the surface, however, the battle was not going so well for the Scotians. The force and suddenness of the Phyrric submarine attack caught the smaller Scotian submarine force off guard, and the ten Locke-class SSGNs were wiped out almost immediately in the short skirmish. Two Cali-class attack subs survived to slip around the enemy squadrons, and finding themselves trapped between Phyrric's subs and its fleet, launched all their torpedos at the nearest capital ship.

Three frigates were struck as their group turned to intercept the new threat. One of them, the Greeley, took multiple hits, listed to one side, and sank. The escort carrier Merced was also hit twice, but remained operable for the moment. The seven remaining frigates of the group fired their own torpedos as the fleet's ten Jefferson dedicated hunter/killer subs, late to arrive on the scene, began a flanking run on the remaining Phyrric submarines.

(OOC: In addition to the losses expressly mentioned in the post, the following were also destroyed:

Interceptor-class ASW destroyer (2)
Adam Smith-class destroyer (5)
Guardian-class AAW/ABM cruiser (1)
Zumwalt-class destroyer (3)

Post losses for torpedo attack on your subs, torpedo attack by my subs on nearest capital ship (carrier, battleship, battlecruiser, dreadnaught), and air casualties.)

So basically, those are the losses for the first wave, take them or leave them. You could, of course, ignore me if you don't like it, but considering you metagamed your way into this war anyway, that really wouldn't be much of a disappointment for me. Your call.)

The SPN Fafnir and 2 Hsien Loong-Class Fleet Auxillaries/Fabricators and an oiler piloted their way through international waters, while onboard the Mahabrata, sensors reported a massive engagement between 2 fleets.

Being a very pragmatic people in war and peace, the Saudir decided that the best course of action was simply observation. If the engagement began to move into international waters and threatened shipping, they would be destroyed in that engagement, given the size of their task force:

1 Light Carrer
5 Stealth Frigates
2 Auxillaries
1 Oiler
1 LPD

Of course,it had already been broadcast that the Mahabrata had 4 50 megaton nucler warheads, though that was simply a last resort weapon. To use nukes in a conflict of this intensity would serve only to escalate the level of conflict.

Quite content to observe the slaughter as long as no weapons came flying their way, they continued their escort duties, the sonar picking up the movements of various ships and radars detecting the incredible volume of air traffic.

6 F-35 SA's lifted off the Mahabrata's deck, slowly starting off on a patrol circuit. In the next minute,a message was sent to the warring fleets.

From:SPN Mahabrata

The Phyrric Escort Expedition requests permission to send 1 stealth frigate into the area to look for survivors of destroyed ships. We intend to fly full colours and broadcast our position at all times. We seek to render humanitarian aid for this mission by rescuing sailors from ships that have been destroyed and treating them.We will retrieve sailors from either side, treat them and alow them to remain on the frigate SPN Chand up until a time that they can be returned to their respective navies.

We intend no decepyion and seek only to save any survivors. The SPN Chand is currently inbound with full colours shown and is an approach path that comes in between the Phyrric navy and their enemies. We repeat, any sailors rescued or downed airmen will be returned to their respective forces. This is a humanitarian mission.

The Lesser of Two Evils

The High King, James O'Kelly, had learned of a war being waged by two large coalitions, coalitions...made up of his enemies.

For days, advisors had pounded him with questions of which side to take.

"Sir, with all due respect, Phyrric and Nuevo Kowloon were once enemies we cannot help them."

"Sir, Doujin is acting with such arrogance that he must be punished, we cannot allow this nation to flaunt it's false Naval strenghts.

Time and time again he had been asked to act.

He held a powerful hold on his region, and the region might act because of his actions.

He had come to a descision.

Tip the Balance of the War.

He would join his former enemies.

While it had not been long at all since Shinoxians had engaged a coalition bent on destroying his ally, Aust, he didn't much care for the opposite side.

Then again, Doujin had been acting like a Naval god, he could not let that happen.

Like they often say Choose the Lesser of Two Evils.

As of now, his ships and troops were to engage that of these Imperialists.

The High King of Shinoxia, James O'Kelly, had recently wired a telegram to his ally, Fleet Admiral Ross and his Great Nation.

With his backing, other large nations from Antarctica may enter the war.

Time to get down to business.

OOC: I have joined with Nuevo Kowloon and Phyrric, my ally Dancing Moose should join me, along with other nations from the Snowy Lands.

I'll post forces when I get a better understanding of troop positions.

Permission is granted for the frigate SPN Chand to enter the area. We advise caution, and request that, if possible, rather than returning survivors to the fleet, you transport them to a nearby UnAPS nation.

Will do.The SPN Chand is currently inbound. We will treat all rescued personnel of either fleet equally.Personnel rescued will remain onboard the SPN Chand and the SPN Mahabrata until repatriation to their homelands can be arranged.

We thank you for making the humanitarian choice.

[End Message]

The SPN Chand churned through the area, hundreds of aircraft streaking overhead. They were in no danger and were repeatedly broadcasting their message to both fleets.Just in case, while they were still neutral, all weapon systems were in passive mode, though they could be quickly switched to active.Just in case.

Coming in alongside a burning wreck, personnel on the Chand threw roped and floats to the floating crewmen, while dinghy's allowed the crew of the Chand to rescue even more.Slowly, all the healthy ones were ordered to stay on decks while the mess on board the Chand was converted into a makeshift hospital, medics treating who they could.

Occasional fights broke out between the personnel of different fleets, but Saudir personnel were impartial in the keeping of peace.Any troublemakers were thrown into the ships brig,at least until they agreed not to start hostilities. As long as they were on the Chand, they would show their gratitude by NOT attacking enemy personnel,no matter how they felt.

The Chand went back and forth between the areas, dropping off additional personnel on board the Mahabrata and the LPD,the Rovel. At the last count, they managed to find and rescue perhaps 400 altogether from either fleet.

Even as missile trails and torpedos streaked between the 2 fleets, the Chand courageously braved the fire, often placing itself at great risk to rescue people from sinking ships.
