His missile contains the *equivalent* of 1,000 tons of TNT, but I don't think he explained which conventional explosive could produce such a blast (he did specify it was non-nuclear).

I have lowered the amount. its now 48 006 instead of +80K.

What I dont understand is WHY he even wants 20,000. Think about it like this: the US invades, your entire country is crushed and troops are approaching your secret nuclear-silo bunker thing. You decide that you have nothing left to lose and fire your (seemingly) pitiful 10 nukes. Now lets have a look at what that would do:

WHY do you need 40,000??? Whats the point. With 100 you could completely obliterate a country the size of Russia and still have some left over to take out their navy. Its a waste of money and its unrealistic.

Yes, but they would not have used all of them, it would have caused a nuclear winter as I said above. During the Cold War they were really just trying to stare each other down, both sides knew that initiating any kind of conflict would be the end for both sides. If you really want to build 40,00 nukes than I cant stop you, I just dont think that they are any use.

EDIT: and you know what happened to the USSR? They went bust cos of their stupidly high military spending. Really I think 40,000 is just thick, but if he wants to do it then I respect that and he can go ahead (not that I could stop him anyway)

Uh, no, this isn't even a debate. No way in hell could he afford 40,000 nukes, especially if most of them were ICBMs. A fully equipped Peacekeeper costs around $175 million. 40,000 of those would come to $7 trillion. SD's entire national budget is $8 trillion. Even if he already been 'saving' for this, he'd still be saving for a hell of a lot longer if he didn't want to cripple his nation.

OOC: you do realize that most nations in NS have SDI defense grids so you need a large number of nukes to break past the defense network.

Even freefall bombs cost a lost, so the cost would still be huge. Also, that wouldn't exactly establish you as a nuclear power, because you wouldn't be able to reign nuclear doom down upon whoever you chose. To use a bomb, you have to fly a plane over the target. Most nations in NS, you'd never make it past their border.

I've got a super genius project gouing on at the moment which will solve the airplane issue.

Okay, now... Nukes don't just sit there until you use 'em. They have to be periodically changed out. tested, and replaced. Figure doing that about once every five years.
So, about every five years, you're pulling the core and replacing it-this keeps mister nuke nice and fresh and ready to use.
You're not that much bigger than me, I know what it would cost ME to have an arsenal like that-I wouldn't be able to have an Economy, Other (non-nuclear forces) and a missile/bomb-farm that big, because of the long-term expenses. I'm pushing 600 million people. It's NOT just Money, it's Manpower and land.

Flogging pure Cash numbers and using it to justify is borderline-godmodding (i.e. it's fine if you don't play with people who do their research, or who rely on Anime and Comic Books to establish their rules of reality. People who look into the logistics of Nuclear arsenals know better, don't expect to be taken seriously), and Nukes... well... they aren't that great a deterrent in the NS game. "Greatness" means people take you seriously-hardware doesn't do that, actions do-and not just declaring war, but good, solid RP'ing-I've had nations four and five times as old as me thinking I was an "old timer" because I know how to sound like someone with power. And I don't need N00KZ to do it, either-and neither do you.

The Soviet Union never had 80,000 nukes-they topped out at about 5000.
The combined arsenals at the height of Cold War buildup was just shy of 12,000.

they had over 50,000 nukes. That's common knowledge
