Logan's Run is a movie set in 2274, after a great war\holocaust\something, and in the new society all live in one giant metropolis, where children are separated from their parents at birth to be raised by the state, and people are basically free to do as they please so long as they do not interfere with the computers that run the cityg. To keep the population down, everyone has a jewel implanted in their palm at birth. At the age of 30, the jewel changes color, signaling that it is your time for Carousel. Basically, Carousel consists of you and everyone else for that day entering a large chamber that somehow causes you to float. Energy is poured into the chamber; if you are "worthy" you will be reborn at that instant, if you are not, you explode. This is basically all a front to provide an easy way of population control.
One of the men who hunts down those who run from Carousel is named Logan. The computers decide to send Logan undercover to attempt to discover a place called Sanctuary, where those who run from Carousel hide. To do this, they do something to him that makes his jewel change color. Unfortunately for Logan, no one is informed of this mission, and he is now on the run to avoid Carousel, and a close friend of his is sent to kill him for fleeing. He leaves the giant metropolis that everyone lives in an attempt to escape, bringing a girl from the city with him. While seeking Sanctuary, they come across an ice cavern inhabited by a robot called Box. Box's job is to provide food for the city by freezing and processing animals. Box has been freezing runners who attempt to make it through the cavern, and attempts to do the same to Logan and the girl. However, they escape Box, and work their way into the ruins of Washington, DC, where they find an old man who remembers things from before the great destruction. After hearing his stories of what it was like in the past, Logan decides to return to the city and overthrow the computers.
