IC: In the latest move in the direction of developing aircraft research, the Kelonian airforce have handed over 12 of their fleet of Russian-designed Tu-26 'Backfire' bombers to the AWRB (Advanced Weapons Research Bureau) for refitting and upgrading to be more useful as a heavy-to-medium bomber/cruise missile platform - Aims include a new, more advanced ECM system, greater scope for self-defence when under attack, and more powerful engines and systems allowing it to carry larger payloads at higher speeds.
The contract for providing the new engines for the aircraft has been handed to the government-backed heavy industrial conglomerate, the Izborski corporation, in an unexpected snub to Turvic Industries, who supply the powerplants for most other Kelonian-constructed military aircraft. The government have stated that this move was not as sudden as was first thought, and that they have been considering switching to Izborski since long before this project was even planned.
