Nearly three dozen pairs of eyes followed Miki Akibura as she disembarked from her plane. Most of them were paramilitary Border Guard officers, in plain clothes, and some were agents from the Islandian intelligence services.

"Well," Chai Jun finally said, after hearing the news that Bonstock had sent an...agent. "Perhaps we should make her feel welcome?"

"Of course!" Vice Premier Park said. "What have we to fear from a woman??"

THey laughed conspiratorially.

ooc: I posted this on the other thread. I'll post it here for relevency.

ooc: Yes, President Akubura's daughter. Of course, Adolphus, Lung, and von Steuben don't know, otherwise they would have handed her over, or at least not let her go.

ic:

Looking around to see some men looking at her, Akubura's daughter grew suspicious. Hopefully, the old boxcutter in her pocket would not ever be used. Coated with a material that dispersed X-rays, it was sure to pass security. It did, after all, pass Bonstocknian security.

"Thank you, sir," she said to Trun.

Hopefully the East Islandians had not made the connection of surnames. Otherwise, she would do some hefty jailtime in Bonstock should Adolphus find out. Not to mention a seat in Asian war crimes trials alongside her father.

She had a sudden thought. I have no friends on this planet. Bonstock is against me, should they find out who I am, and certainly the Islandians are my enemies.

Of course, she had a job to do. With a copy of the proposals in her pocket, and all the Interrogation and Debate Club skills that she could muster, she prepared to do the enemy's bidding. Success, and she would certainly get a promotion. Even a seat of power in the Riksdag. Then Bonstock would fall before her.

"Right this way," the escort said, showing her to one of the cars. The man opened the door, and allowed Akubura in, and then shut the door. The car drove off to the hotel.

"The swallow has left the nest," a young man in a business suit said on his cell phone.

A white Toyota Camry pulled up behind, and tailed the car. Random observers, posing as tourists from _Taiwan, and all full Asian, through out Hu'kasa chattered away on their cell phones as if nothing were happening. If the car passed by, they were to report it with the codewords "Hu'kasa has lots of sunshine." Vague enough, thought BSS commanders.

A bell boy at the hotel, posing as a guest worker from China, waited. He knew from intercepted transmissions where the hotel would be, though just in case some major hotels were also staked out by agents.

Hudecian Foreign Minister Mastuda relaxed during the trip to East Islandia. He had been waiting for this moment for a long time now. Ever since AA forces drove Bonstock from his homeland, he had not had the chance for a "victory lap". It was particularly sweet considering that he was one of the reasons that Hudecia was involved in the first place.

He had long abandoned his Japanese citizenship but still felt attached to his former home in Japan. When he became a Hudecian citizen it was through some luck and fate that he would rise to the highest position that an immigrant has ever obtained in Hudecia. Meeting then-ambassador Honatava while obtaining his citizenship, he had made quite the impression with his knowledge of the country and the politics. Oh, having a firm command of the English language didn't hurt either, he supposed.

The trans-Pacific flight would be peaceful enough, with a brief layover at Narita airport.

Yelena drove, since Trun was prone to speeding and road rage. In any case, they quietly drove through the streets, which were normally empty and filled with biking and walking pedestrians.

Trun sighed as they pulled up to the dock. "This is where we get off the car and onto a boat," he told Akibura. They helped her out with her baggage, quickly loading her aboard a heavily armored, though normal looking catamaran, and they proceeded to the hotel, located on a small isle in a nearby bay, usually unfrequented by most.

As Akibura sat in the passenger area, which was empty save for several female tourists, Trun went inside the bathroom, to make a call to his cohorts.

"Any tails?" he asked his comrades in the Border Police.

"Three possible ones," his comrade replied. "But none confirmed, except for one white car, which we stopped to give a traffic ticket to. They had expired license plates."

Trun chuckled softly. In Islandia, license plates were quite a hassle; they had to be re-checked every six months, and re-verified with the Motor Vehicle Directorate, part of the Ministry for Public Safety.

"Any boats?" he asked.

"A few," his comrade replied. "but we're keeping them busy with overflights from helicopters and high speed buzzings with our own craft, so you wont have to worry too much."

"Right," Trun replied. "Thanks."

"I'll call you if anything," his partner replied, then hung up.

As they helped Akibura into her suite inside the beautiful Imperial Harbor Resort, a hooded figure arrived by way of helicopter, through an S-76 painted in civilian colors. A woman stepped out, accompanied by several normal-looking men and women, and they all chattered busily as they went downstairs and settled into various rooms alongside Akibura's wing.

Akibura's suite was a large, four room affair, with bathroom, queen sized bed, numerous dressers, a beautiful rosewood dressing table, a small kitchenette, and even a small room with a teak table for either eating or writing on.

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Vice Premier Park had asked Premier Chai, minutes before she left Hu-kasa harbor's heliport.

"I'm sure, Hyemin," Chai Jun replied, tossing her hair over her shoulder and combing it gently. "besides, if anything goes wrong, I have Zang and his men to protect me."

"Still, I must protest," Park replied indignantly. "And anyway, Zang seems to be much too-"

"Affectionate?" Premier Chai suggested. She set down her comb and sighed. "He and I have nothing going on. I've told you that."

"But you're attracted to him, and he to you," Park said.

"He saved my life a few times," Chai answered. "I dont love him, because I dont know him well enough to, and besides, he's only a friend."

Park shook her head. "Emotional attachments and an unknown variable from Bonstock," she said slowly. "And you're going to do this? Anything can go wrong, and-"

"And I could die," Chai said quietly. "I almost did when I dealt with those Bonstockians the first time, and I almost did die when they killed Ah Tong." (*Chai's fiancee, Pai Weitong, was a high ranking officer killed during the New Year's Offensive).

Park sighed. She did not mean to bring up that matter, and she shook her head. "Not even that," she said. "Trust me, as a friend, and a soldier. I've walked into a few of these situations during my career as an officer, and I've always had men killed. Why not have her in the Imperial Palace?"

"I cant," Chai replied, and Park Hye-min knew it was true. "The situation is too fragile. You realize that they will be up in arms at the mention of a Bonstockian agent here, especially after their manueverings, however distant they may be.

"EIther way, we have hated each other for too long," Chai said. Her expression seemed tired, and she closed her eyes for a minute. "I cant have people from both sides keep dying like this, not when we could be cooperating. I say we go negotiate with her."

"Should I call the rest of the alliance over?" Park asked.

"Sometime soon I suppose," Chai replied. She stood, and gave Park a quick hug. "Take care of yourself," she said to her.

"Be careful," Park said. There was really nothing more she could say, and she knew Chai's blood would be on her hands if anything happened to the Islandian leader.

And then she was gone.

As Foreign Minister Matsuda's plane flew from Narita to Hu-kasa (a flight of about five hours) a trio of Islandian fighters, J37s, surrounded his plane. They contacted his pilot, and assured them that they were here to escort his plane in to Hu-Kasa International Airport, and even provided their unit numbers and designations, although not their names. They were from EIAF units based in Japan...

Foreign Minister Qiao was on hand to greet Minister Matsuda. With him was Vice PRemier Park, who wished to speak wiht the Minister first on the matter of Dra-pol, then on Bonstock.

"Akibura is her name?" Zang asked Chai.

"That's correct," she replied as they sat in her suite. "Why do you ask?"

"Wasnt another dignitary named Akibura? The Japanese leader on war crimes?" Zang asked.

"It is a common surname; the 'Aki' means 'autumn' in Japanese, and bura...well, I'm not sure what taht means," Chai replied. "Or the name may be written differently. Besides, she's Bonstockian." She raised her hand as he began to protest. "Just run a background check on her, and do it quietly. Bug her room if you have to, but dont let her find it."

He nodded. "And you?"

"I will be fine," Chai replied. "Stay outside, and whatever you do, dont rush in."

Zang's eyes betrayed his worry. "Are you certain?" he asked.

She nodded.

"Of course, Premier," he replied.

She gave him a kiss on the head. "Ever my faithful guardian," she said. "I'm glad I have you here."

Zang smiled and followed her outside, positioning himself outside the door. OUtside the resort, Marine snipers were posted, just in case anyone decided to make any unfriendly moves.

Then Chai knocked on the door. "Hello? Is Akibura Miki in there?" she asked, using the names in traditional Japanese format (family name followed by given name).

Chai planned to bring her downstairs to the coffee lounge (populated by various intelligence agents) to talk. Barring that, she would enter the lion's lair to speak wiht Akibura. Of course, if anything happened to Chai, Akibura would not escape.

Still, she took little consolation int eh fact; unlike Hye-min, she had never been a soldier in the regular army, and although she was a fairly accurate shot with a pistol and an assault rifle, she preferred to talk.

Matsuda skipped down the stairs of the 747 and bowed gracefully, first to the Vice Premier, then to the Foreign Minister.

"It is a pleasure to finally visit your wonderful country, regardless of the circumstance," Matsuda said beaming happily. "I'm sure we have much to discuss."

Matsuda was used to dealing with Chinese but had not grown quite comfortable around them yet. Like most Japanese raised in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War he had a dark lingering hatred for all things foreign, especially Chinese. Still, he had overcome his hatred of white people, maybe he could overcome this in time too.

"I hope that my visit here will not be all business, it would be a shame to travel all the way here and not see any of the country," he hoped that was subtle but clear enough. "Still, I hope we can accomplish much in the next few days regarding Bonstock and Drapol."

As he drove through the streets of Hu'kasa, a Bonstocknian agent was stopped by a police officer.

"What is the problem, officer?"

"Sir, your lisence plate tags are out of date."

"Hmm... I apologize, this was a rental car I picked up at the airport." He proceeded to hand the man a reciept from the rental car company.

"Hmm... I'll give you the ticket, give it to the retal car company. You're free to go."

Later

The doorbell rang. Fully dressed, and fully prepared, the young Akibura answered the door.

"Greetings," said the woman outside, easily recognizable as Premier Chai.

"It is quite an honor to finally meet the esteemed Premier of the Great Nation of East Islandia." The young Akibura gave a short bow, and then said, "Would you like to complete the negotiations over some coffee downstairs?"

"Certainly."

They walked to the elevator. The bellboy called on his cell phone. He said to a man in Bonstock, "The package is sent."

"Good. When will it arrive?"

"Very soon, if there is no delay."

Meanwhile, the elevator came to the ground. A young man walked in, his walkman blasting out the latest Bonstocknian techno hits. Yet this walkman could also send messages to Bonstock, with recordings of the dialouge between young Akibura and Premier Chai.

The two ladies walked into the room. The man, sitting down, listining to his headphones while sipping his espresso, smiled at the two. Young Akibura smiled back, affirming who the man was. Then the two women sat down at a table near the man's, for ease of his listening.

Young Akibura said, "Shall we begin the negotiations? I was asked to submit the following terms... Bonstock will withdraw from Yemen, Bonstock will refrain from imperialism in all parts of the world, and in return the Asian Resistance will sign a non-aggression pact with Bonstock and grant Bonstock free trade status. Do you agree with those terms?"

A Spyran executive tilt-rotor transport sets out from Spyr early in the morning, carrying the PRS Minister of Diplomacy, colonel Reiden Harsk. Its flight plan takes it first eastward to the North Yaman capital, where it retrieves the Yamani representative, before rising and heading off towards East Islandia, which is informed of their coming through transmission.

Onboard, Minister Harsk looked out the window and sipped his tea. The vast expanse of the asia-pacific sphere seemed to spawn new turmoil every day, and if each instance was not dealt with, it would set off ripples disrupting the prosperity of the continent, and the world...

...Harsk's mind shifted to a more mundane problem. East Islandia had a tropical climate, and his black uniform was in the traditional Spyran style of outlining contours, but exposing as little as possible.

Annette Lu's wheelchair negotiated the ramp on the aircraft with ease. She was capable of walking, but her old age combined with the attempted assination a few weeks ago meant her knees were still very sore.

The Taiwanese Superjumbo ride was fairly pleasant. The sauna was good for her knees, and she massaged them a bit to get rid of the pain. I'm much too old for this she thought. It was a few hours long, and hopefully she would be able to walk after the sauna treatment.

The S-720 slowed down and descended for landing. A few bumps were felt, but nothing unusual. This was Lu's first time in Islandia and her second trip abroad on matters of the state.

Rongyi Bei yawned as the luxury jet touched down in Hu'kasa. He'd wanted to send a lower-level negotiator to this meeting, but Premier Suun had read him the riot act in response. Marimaia hadn't actually been involved in the defence of Japann, and Suun wanted to remind the other AA members that his people were still committed to the alliance. As Foreign Minister, Rongyi was the highest-ranking official who could attend; the Vice-Premier would have been out of his league, and the Premier had only just come back from his honeymoon.

Rongyi read through the folder one last time as all of the landing procedures finished; Bonstock was an interesting one, to be sure. Hopefully, this negotiation would solve the problem once and for all.

Reiden Harsk spoke on the agenda for the conference.

"We have much to discuss here today... Bonstock has asked for nonagression pacts and free trade in exchange for an end to its imperialism. We must decide if we can accept this, or how it must be amended... and, if no treaty can be found to satisfy us, we must determine a reaction to the situation in Yemen.

Then, and perhaps more imperative, we must draft a Dra-pol policy with clear objectives to which we shall all hold. Some nations of the AA have gone to war, some have not. Some seek to defend the ROK and its former borders, some seek to protect the Korean people, some seek to obliterate Dra-pol no matter the cost, and there seems to be some intent to forcibly unite the peninsula by giving ROK control of Dra-pol. This will lead only to chaos, and so we must all agree on exactly what will happen during and after this conflict."

"But let us add a provision that it may be declared void by any one nation after a 3 month warning has been given. I personnaly don't think any of us has anything to lose from free trade.. but in case we find we do... we need an exit strategy."

"As for Drapol, my nation's position has been crystal clear. I think all members agree that the Koreas should be united, but not under force of arms. As for foreign intervention, I think if Drapol wishes to continue to perpetrate genocide in the ROK that he should be taught a lesson."

"This situation with Bonstock has reached a point where peace can finally be secured. I just hope that none of us will allow this opportunity to slip through our fingers by demanding too much of them. Non-aggression and free trade in return for non-imperialism seems like a good trade-off; do we really need to limit their navy? After all, this alliance's combined navy could wipe the floor with them, no offense m'lady."
Rongyi bowed his head to Akibura and continued.

"As far as Dra-pol is concerned...our government has had a lot of discussion about our position. We have a naval task force in the region after our initial mobilisation against Bonstock; it can easily be diverted should it become necessary, however we admit that we are hesitant to involve our armed forces unless all diplomatic attempts have been exhausted. We would also like to know if Marimaian troops are really needed in this conflict; new nations seem to joining the defence of South Korea every day, many of whom are much larger than we are."

Spyr now has a diplomat in Dra-pol... the only foreign representative currently present. Soon, we hope to obtain information which may assist in resolving this conflict.

Korean unity is a desireable goal, which will benefit both the Korean people and Asia as a whole. But, forced unification through the military of an isolationist nation which remains ignorant in many respects... such holds great potential for disaster. "Before coming to this conference the High Council was informed that Xiaquo and Sino are seeking Asian Alliance permission to use nuclear weaponry. Now, I have not had a modern education and know little of nuclear weaponry, but a weapon that destroys an entire area indiscriminately doesn't seem like a very humane way to fight an anti-imperialist war. I hope the AA is going to approve this plan to aid a Dra-pol invasion that wasn't approve by the AA and should never have even begun."

"Perhaps it is time for them to stop, and hold the previous lines, before the northern situation turns into an environmental and humanitarian disaster. The communial way the Dra-pol live means that the heavy bombardment strategies Sino enjoys will cause massive loss to the innocent Dra-pol population."

"I believe that we should rule out large scale nuclear weapons," Chai said. "Instead, we should allow the use of tactical nuclear weapons, or bunker busters, as you would call them, weapons with a tiny nuclear yield but highly concentrated power. Although we usually encounter a goodly amount of successes in cracking fortifications with our 15 thousand pounders, it seems that Drapol, aside from not declaring losses from our weapons, has hardened their locations to a considerable extent.

"Our ally, Agrigento, is making a new sort of tac-nuke, a 'hardened earth nuclear penetrator,' or something of that sort. They have reported that they are almost done with the mass-production process, and that it should be available in a matter of weeks, if not days, and in sufficient quantities to allow for the breaking of enemy fortifications. Whatever the case, we cannot allow the use of full fledged nuclear weapons, but only tactical nukes."

"Anything which can bring this war to an end quickly is good news to us. I just hope that we can avoid too much 'collateral damage'. If the aim is to convince Dra-pol to negotiate, killing civilians won't do it. If anything, it'll make them more determined."

We already know that Dra-pol is not a moral state. I hope that, one day, we can elevate them into one. But to use NBC weapons, to execute rather than take prisoners as some, such as Sino*, suggest... such makes us immoral. If such measures are employed, then there can be no justification for our involvement in this conflict. We will simply be imperialist powers chewing up Korea like a pack of dogs."

"The purpose of the military there IS to defend ROK. At least that is what the forces in the South are doing. In the north I believe that Xiaguo and Sino are attempting to divert men and resources away from the struggle in the south."

"They are the ones inflicting the suffering on us," Park remarked. "It is hard for you to understand, Minister. Although your nation and your people are close to the front, your troops are not deployed in actual combat, and you do not have such high stakes as we do. IF we lose, we may lose the favor of the Korean peninsula forever. If we win, but we cut too many corners in order to do so, we may actually lose. In other words, it seems to me taht a pyrrhic victory seems to be in store for all of us, even Dra-pol.

"NOnetheless," she added, "I believe that we should not use NBC weapons, and then only in small amounts, unlike Premier Chai."

"They have already launched biological and chemical weapons at Xiaguo," Chai said. "We grow impatient. Day after day, our coalition is badgered by a nation who refuses to admit the very prospect of losses, and day after day, we have reports from our BDA specialists and the surviving troops on teh ground that enemy installations are still intact. Day after day, enemy forces trap allied troops somewhere, and although it should be technically impossible to have an entire country ringed by tunnels, it seemst hat intelligence tells us otherwise.

"ALthough impatience is not an excuse for NBC deployment, they have also, like i said earlier, launched projectiles at Xiannese installations, even civilian cities. We are only returning the favor, and our effective Missile defence system, coupled with our offensive airstrikes, should be enough to put out any source of trouble. We will not launch full scale NBC assaults, but we will not let our NBC projectiles rust.

"Spyr is aware of the heavy indoctrination of Drapoel forces... however we would like to remind our fellows that, in the Pacific War, the Japanese government was not the only one acting to block surrender, through tales of the savagery and atrocities of the Allies. Some Japanese surrendered while holding hand grenades, whick killed themselves ands their capturers. The evidence of such shows it to be isloated and rare, but the US Army made sure it was told to its soldiers as a widespread occurence. Japanese attempting to surrender were afterwards frequently shot from long distance, meaning few were ever taken... we must not allow such an attitude to spread to our forces. If they assume every Drapoel wants to kill them, and respond in kind, they will become hardened and uncaring, and lose their morality.

It will be noted that, once captured, Japanese POWs were some of the most cooperative and forthcoming in the entire war... indoctrination makes it hard to get them, but once you have them and treat them well, it vanishes and information bubbles forth.

If POWs become a problem, Spyr volunteers to take custody of them, and move them to camps in Spyr until arrangements for their repatriation are made after the conflict."

I'm sure our experts could create the right effect. The question is, would we tell the listeners to surrender or to resist the Dra-pol government?

In addition, we studied and used indoctrination techniques under previous governments; we also learnt quite a bit about breaking through other people's conditioning. If any AA nations take custody of Drapoel POWs, we'd be more than happy to send some of our deprogrammers to have a go at breaking their resistance down. Before anyone raises an eyebrow, we're not talking torture. We couldn't guarantee any results though; considering how long Dra-pol has been closed off, their people might be a lost cause."

"Excuse me, comrades," Chai said with a strained smile. Her migraines were acting up again, and she quickly left, ignoring Hyemin's look of annoyance.

Chai splashed the water over her face, reveling in the coolness of the liquid.

Think.

She shook her head, and supported herself weakly wiht one hand. The events of the past few days were too much, she thought. She had quarreled with her Vice Premier, Park Hyemin, and worse, nearly all her dear friends were off somewhere, not here to give her support when she needed it.

Chai swallowed a pill, and quickly washed it down. They were amphetamines, and the same type that the military gave her as an officer in the Islandian wars, when they had to fight nearly 24 hours straight for one or two days at a time. Those things would eventually lead to a huge, marathon nap, but for now, they were what kept her going. She was afraid that if she were to sit down, she would fall asleep immediately.

And another problem of hers that few knew was the fact that she took depression medicine. Ever since she had returned from the hellish civil war that her country fought years ago, decorated for bravery and with the rank of a Major in a Second Flag (Reserves) rescue unit, she had been plagued by nightmares. They had only gotten worse after her fiancee, an officer in the military, died in the recent Sino-Japanese war.

Now, she was the leader of Islandia, and she knew she had to act as such. Ever since clawing her way up from being an agent in the Independent Committee Against Corruption to leading the nation, she had been depressed, but managed to hide it.

But now, it was coming apart. With news of heavy Islandian casualties from recent wars, the death of her husband, and the alienation of her closest friend, Park Hyemin, she was getting hit hard. Chai took a few more deep breaths, and left the bathroom, shutting the door behind her with a resounding thud that seemd to be so final...

This talk of a treaty is most troubling to General Lee and his provisional government. General Lee and the Kilean Premier have agreed that "victory" is nothing less than the total restoration of the pre-war borders of the ROK. Rongyi nodded as Matsuda finished.

"If negotiations begin, we could offer Dra-pol medical and economic reconstruction assistance; improving the standard of living in their own country should help reduce their desire for conquest. Perhaps we could then get all concerned sides around a table to discuss peaceful reunification."

"If the allied forces in the ROK decide against offering a settlement, just ask them if they are truly prepared to occupy Dra-pol and attempt to rebuild the entire structure of that nation. Not just economically, but the very foundation of Drapoel society would need to be rebuilt. Convincing Dra-pol to return to the pre-war borders will not happen merely through force alone."

I think that the allies should seek a crushing military victory over Dra-Pol, drive them totally out of the ROK, and then offer a merciful peace with economic incentives.

A part of this could be making the DMZ *actually* a demlilitarized zone, and prohibit both sides from stationing heavy forces anywhere near the border.

I think the allies should seek a victory that lets them dictate terms to the Dra-Pol, but they should be very agreeable and merciful terms.

"Very well," Chai said. "Islandia has groups of 'volunteers' on hand for deployment to troublespots at times, groups made up of specific ethnicities and who are more than likely to be loyal to the certain country that they will be fighting in support of. We will send them to the Korean peninsula, under direct command of Hudecia. Also, Spyr has diplomats in the Drapoel capital. How fare they?" she asked the Spyran minister.

Park sighed. As Premier, Chai could order volunteer brigades into any region of the world wihtin reason, with the agreement of friendly nations present and the consent of the regional force commander; not even she could override Chai's choice, and their mutual friend, Commander of Islandian Forces Pacific, would agree to Chai's request.

"The Hudecian government would welcome volunteers from any nation to help us fight against Drapol," Matsuda paused to think about a possibility. "To avoid any diplomatic trouble, we will record the unit as a Hudecian Foreign Legion (HLF). They will be commanded by members of the nation the troops came from."

This little powerplay between the two Islandians could turn out to be very interesting. He just hoped it wouldn't deteriorate into a mud-slinging contest right here.

Harsk, silent through the recent debate, adds his voice to the discussions.

"We do not believe that, should we gain a victory proving our military superiority, there will be anything left standing in Seoul, or Quinntonian Dra-pol for that matter. Dra-pol must be reasoned with, not on their or our terms alone, but through understanding of how they operate and what must be done to make war in the ROK seem meritless.

We are also concerned about the new ROK government in South Hanguk... If this is a battle for freedom and democracy, should we let administrative authority for the ROK lie with a military officer whose power comes from his rank?"

"Indeed, and the last 24 hours have drastically decreased the chances of a peaceful outcome. The chairman of Drapol has been assassinated, but unknown forces, Hotan is blaming the Joshuans and Quintonnian Drapol."

"Things on the peninsula could deteriorate in a matter of hours. I propose that in the case of a suspected genocide, that the allied forces exchange a complete withdrawl from Korea with the safe passage of all Korean citizens out of the country. We came there to save them, and we must accomplish this at all costs."

The ROK provisional government resents Spyr's unrealistic attitude. The ROK constitution is still in effect, but General Lee is in charge simply beacuse.....he's in charge. Our elected officials are surrounded and may well be dead in Seoul, and holding new elections would be damn well impossible under the present situations.

Basically, the city government of Pusan is the only intact civilian institution left in the ROK. The only state institution that has survived the Dra-Pol attack has been the army.

Once the ROK is free, and once the situation is stable, the surviving civilian officals shall be placed back in power, or, if they are dead, new elections will be held, but until then General Lee will be running things.

The Provisional government is well aware that the ROK has had a shakey past with reguards to military involvement in civilian affiars, but we also know that the world is watching us, and that the world will hold us to our promises.

Chai clenched her teeth as Harsk spoke. She was beginning to feel tipsy, and the pupils of her eyes were dilated, stretched thin as she began to have difficulty breathing.

Damned amphetamines, she thought to herself. She coughed a little, and stood up.

"Excuse me for a while," she said. "I need to speak with my Pacific Forces Commander."

With that, she stood up and headed quickly for the door, not stopping until she reached a room that had been delegated for communications.

Chai punched in General Sung Minlee's number, and waited until she came up on the line.

"Min? It's me, Ah Jun," she said.

"Premier," the voice responded, coolly.

"I've told you not to call me that," Chai said, sighing. "But anyway-"

"You want me to transfer the Musa Brigade and the Yalu Guards to Hudecian command," Sung said. "I know."

Chai frowned, confused. "What? How did you know this?"

"Park told me this," she said.

"Will you do it?" Chai asked.

"Is that an order?" Sung queried back.

"If you dont want to, then I suppose it is," Chai replied, her voice straining. "What is with everyone anyway? They're all so uptight lately."

"Nothing's the matter wtih anyone," Sung replied. "Maybe its you."

Chai's eyes widened and she scowled. "Now just what the hell is that supposed to mean?" she demanded.

"Whatever you want it to mean," the voice shot back. "I'm doing as you say, but I'd rather we agree with Spyr."

"Hye-min thinks so too," Chai said. "So do me a favor: shut up and join the crowd."

She slammed the phone on Sung, and turned to Zhang, her bodyguard.

"Is there anyone I can trust here?" she asked before proceeding back to the room.

As for the 'government' of General Lee... let the military concern itself with military affairs. If the general wishes to shield himself behind a wall of bureaucracy, instead of fighting in defence of his country, then so be it. We shall speak no further on the matter."

"If it will assist, we'll be more than happy to take care of Korean refugees. We've got plenty of room, and we'll make sure that they get a decent standard of living. A few fighter-escorted cargo planes could be spared, I'm sure. If the airspace isn't safe enough, we'll send a convoy."

He took a sip before continuing.
"We would also like to offer the defending forces our services as a place for R-and-R. Rested soldiers are productive soldiers, so to speak. As long as they respect our ways, we won't mind entertaining them."

Hudecian troops (who took the brunt of the invasion by Drapol from the north) are being reinforced before making our own plans.

LLR is reinforcing Hudecian defences.

Beth Gellert is becoming more involved on Drapol's side

Dr. Matsuda cleared his throat loudly to get everyone's attention.

"As some of you might know, within the last 24 hours over 40 IRBMs were launched by Drapol in response to the lauch of conventionally armed ICBMs by Kilean. At least 8 were nuclear-armed..."

"Although initial intel is sketchy, it appears that Ulsan, Pusan, Jeju-do and Daegu are all destroyed. Pohang itself was saved by Hudecian Arrow IIs who were in the air to defend the city. However, a chemical weapon was detonated in a medical area beside the city. At least 20 000 of our troops died in and around Ulsan and Daegu. Kilean ICBMs responded by leveling several major centres in Drapol. Also, it appears that the cities of Seoul and Inchon are also destroyed."

Matsuda paused as he stared sorrowfully at the other diplomats, who were speechless.

"The situation has become a humanitarian nightmare, and Hudecian troops are being withdrawn within the next 48 hours."

"Since our intentions were to save Korean lives, we were fortunate that most of the major city centres were evacuated. Still, casualties are ... at an unacceptable level. Hudecian troops will help as many civilians evacuate from the peninsula before we leave. We intend to set up a front-line emergency medical centre in Japan to deal with the effects of the radiation and chemical weapons."

Matsuda didn't mention the fact that most likely, his government would not last the week. Already, mobs were forming in major city centres appalled and angry at the recent events.

Chai smiled sadly at Matsuda.

"Well Comrade Premier," she said slowly, "it is two things we have in common, eh?"

Park said nothing, but instead bowed her head.

"I'm afraid I must call for an end to this meeting, or at least to the topic of the Korean peninsula," Park Hyemin said, as she stood. "As you may know, it is pointless to continue with this drama anymore, and we will probably pull out our troops from the Korean peninsula. Nonetheless, this would not have happened were it not for the actions of a few antagonistic individuals. Dra-pol has destroyed the Korean peninsula, my ancestral home, and for what? simply because they cannot afford to lose in their paranoid minds, and because they were destined to lose in the first place.

"Nonetheless," Park continued, "With the renewed imperialism of Bonstock, I am placing Premier Chai under arrest. The people of Islandia have decided that she is unfit for rule, and as such, it was their wishes to see Chai ousted. As such, I will be taking her position, and I will soon select a Vice Premier."

Everyone in the room knew it was a lie, at least everyone in the know. Chai had been nothing except brave, and she had the scars to prove for it too, the most recent ones from a Bonstockian backed assassination attempt on her life.

Still, a sizeable portion of the Islandian military was loyal to Park, since she had been one of the most able (if youngest) officer to take command in the Banner Forces. Most of them were undoubtedly behind her, and any dissent to her rule would be stifled immediately.

As Park continued to speak however, a tear, barely discernible from her pale skin, slid down her cheek. Chai saw this, and nodded, as if saying to the delegates gathered around her that it was time for her to go.

She stood. "It has been my pleasure to spend time with you all," she said, bowing deeply as two Islandian Marines walked up to her and positioned themselves behind her, assault rifles held with barrels down. "I thank you all for the times we have had together."

With that, Chai walked off, leaving the fundamental question unanswered:

Why was Chai Jun being overthrown? And who was really doing it? Her closest friend, Park Hyemin, with whom she had served in teh Islandian Wars and suffered alongside?

It seemed a betrayal of immense scale, almost as large as when Mao Zedong ordered the interrogation and eventual death of his close comrade-in-arms, Peng Dehuai....

Matsuda stared sorrowfully as the drama unfolded. After Chai had left he stood up and excused himself.

"It will be a long flight back to Hudecia," he said. "And I have much to prepare for when I get back."

While Matsuda was in-flight, the government of Ms. Maetova collapsed under the boot of rioters. Maetova herself was forced into exile, and her cabinet was dissolved and tried to quietly slip out of the country for the most part.

Matsuda was one of the few cabinet members to return to the capital and address the seething members of Parliament himself. Perhaps it was his Japanese heritage or maybe it was his sense of patriotism to his new country, but he could not flee from his nation. He had to face the consequences of what happened.

For Matsuda, fortunately, his actions as Foreign Minister had earned him the respect of the largest party, the Conservative party, which had now chosen the interim government. He was to lead the new government, and his cabinet would be a mix of several different parties, a mix it was hoped would defuse the anger of the populace.

Another war was distracting the populace, this time in China defending Hudecia's allies from invasion. However, the military was walking on eggshells, any major military defeat would set off another revolt.

Rongyi bowed respectfully to Park as he got up.

"I guess congratulations are in order then, Madame Premier. However, you could have gone about it a bit more discreetly; she could have 'fallen ill'. Still, it's your nation now. As this conference is over, I shall head home and make my report to Premier Suun. I'm sure he'll be in contact regarding diplomatic ties and whatnot. Farewell."

--------------------------------------------------------------------

On the flight back home, Rongyi held a video conference with Suun.
"That's basically it, Your Excellency."
