Order of Jerusalem takes Rhodes.

16-04-2004, 23:34
OOC: I did not see anyone as owning Rhodes, which is directly below Turkey. If anyone objects I hope we can come to a peaceful settlement.

The actual fighting was swift. The few Turkish or Greek locals who resisted were easily dispatched by the lethal, skilled knights, and the populace did not seem to care. All of the coastline was secured, and a message sent to every Rhodian there, to inform them of the Order's takeover. Immediately the knights got to work improving the defences, setting up fields of fire, anti-aircraft weaponry, and anti-ship artillery. The Order of Jerusalem did not possess more than a couple tanks, but these were placed where they could do the most good. The foreign minister, Phillipe Santiago was there to oversee, and if all went well the Grand Master John de Hauteville would arrive as well. The knights employed the populace to help in securing the fortifications. Before these could be finished, a second wave of knights arrived, and these spread out to secure the closest islands in the Rhodian archipelago. The Order of Jerusalem has no intent to take any other sovereign Greek or Turkish territories, they are simple returning to their natural home.

On the island, the numerous Rhodian citizens were put to work by the knights as bunkers, fortifications, barb wire, mine fields, fields of fire, artillery emplacements, and anti-air emplacements were built, the knights directing the workers day after day, their generous salaries being paid at the the end of the month. Philipphe Santiago watched the works as the Vice Commander, de Villaret, constantly strolled around the island, checking the various walls and fortifications. "This island will last a siege as great as any St. John faced!" he exclaimed after a final check.

Knights continued to secure the surrounding islets, establishing barbwire and minimal forts. The Grand Master was expected to arrive in a private jet fairly soon.

My compliments to the KOJ on the aquisition of the island of Rhodes.

My diplomatic staff has informed me that the leadership of KOJ may not be aware of the intent of certain nations to attack and resist the actions of KOJ.

( OOC...see "Johor" post )

Should the KOJ require further assistance, the Xeraphian govt and the Knights Templar will be ready to help.

respectfully,

Alaric, King of Xeraph

OOC: Johor post?

Grand Master John de Hauteville of the Order of Jerusalem got into his convoy of some 5 planes, a step-up from the expected private jet. The helicopters took a secluded route through Rhodes, coming from the Western Mediterrrean. As they touched down in the Rhodian helopad, the Master stepped out, in ceremonial garb of a white robe with a red cross, a long sword in a scabbard at his side. In a ceremonial entry into the remnants of the Castle at Rhodes, he dedicated the new capital of the Order of Jerusalem. The knights were still busily at work.
