War in this program is basically role-played combat. You can do anything you want, provided it corresponds with your national characteristics. For example, a new nation like urself can't call in nuclear strikes with 150,000,000 elite paratroopers. I've seen that, and it just plain doesn't work.

there was a program way long ago that was posted on here on how to calculate your avg. military size. Does anyone know where that program went?

Actually he could, its "freeform" RP so he can do whatever he wants, but people wont like it if you just pull random "1337z0Rz 0wN@g3 u83r 7r00p3rz" so stick with what Ebolania said.

Every man woman and child who can have a bomb strapped to them is in my military!
So like, are there alot of wars? Have any of you being wars? does it affect your nation? Can you have your nation destoyed in a war? If none of this matters... then why go to war? i mean, it does sound fun.

There are wars ALL the time. And you have NO idea how many times over the world has been hit by titanic nuclear strikes. We should all be dead.
Winning or losing a war does not have any real affect on your nation, just someone may gloat over you in later threads, or perhaps you will culture the hate of another nation. It's all imaginary .
A small tip though, as a small nation it is considered that your army is quite small and you cannot possess any large arms (EG Nukes, Bios, Chemies EMPs) So don't try to flaunt any until you reach at least 100 milllion in population.
Other than that, I suggest trying to dig up some of the stickied threads and giving them a read through. Or just watch what other people are doing.
That's all the advice I can really offer right now.

I think The Blackguard has it pretty much spot on. You can free form, but try to do so realistically... for one thing, don't say that three people died if a country drops a nuke on your capital city. That's something we call "godmodding" which is a definite no-no.
One thing I've been doing even in my newbie time has been to take 2 percent of my nation's population and consider that the active military. Another 2 percent can be in reserve. That's a reasonable figure for peacetime. In the event of a war, you can bump the military up to about 5 percent of your national population. For instance, my current population is 91 million, so my active military is at 1.8 million (which is just slightly under 2 percent) for the army, navy, and air force.
If you look, there are instructional threads where different aspects of role playing are explained and one of them includes an example of a well-played war and several examples of poorly-played wars. They can give you a great example of both how to role play realistically and what can alienate you from many of the more veteran players of NationStates.
Best of luck!
