Hamptonshire Announces Bunker Network

The Grand Duchy of Hamptonshire is announcing the long planned "Project Dunkirk".

For the past 20 years, engineers and miners have been hard at work creating vast bunker networks in the mountains of Hamptonshire. The solid granite and lead laced Hamptonshire Mountains provide nautral protection against conventional and nuclear attack.

Using funds provided by the Hamptonian League and profits from the HDC, the Grand Duchy has devoted over $1.5 trillion to this project. A series of over 2000 bunkers over 2 miles underground will provide nearly 100 million citizens of Hamptonshire with near ultimate security.

Dozens of bunkers have already been completed, providing an extremely secure environment for the government and military. In the coming years, the civilian bunkers will be completed.

It is hoped that the entire bunker network will be able to self sustain 100 million people for a period of 10 years.

While work has been progressing over the past 20 years, a project of this size requires an enormous amount of time. Estimates state that completion of Project Dunkirk will require an additional 30 years of work.

We have much work ahead of us, but we cannot stop now.

Sods, I need a scheme like that - we have a few large bunkers, most of the ones in the east are linked in one way or another, but no particularly organized system...

Time to get ferretting away at my own bunker programme, methinks...

Do something like the Frenches Megonia(sp?) line. Accept put some anti-aircraft guns in it.

This bunker network is not for fighting. This is for hiding.

I have other defensive fortifications for fighting.

The Maginot (sp?) Line was a total waste of time. It was between France and Germany. During WW2, the Germans went around it by going through Belgium and they captured Paris while most of the French forces were still at the Maginot Line.

The Maginot was a waste of time and money.

An interesting idea, Hamptonshire- just make sure you put a spare Water Chip in each of those bunkers, along with a GECK or two, just in case! :D

How about some statistics, Hamptonshire? Roycelandia is looking at installing a similar Bunker System, but would like to see how things went with your own system first...

What sort of statistics are you looking for?

Cost, capacity, facilites, etc etc etc...

Cost of complete project- $1.5 trillion (approx) could reach $2.25 trillion.

Capacity- 100 million citizens and 500,000 troops, enough supplies to be completely self-sufficient for 10 years during nuclear war. Can also function with limited outside support for up to 50 years.

Facilities- diesel and nuclear power systems, full hospitals, food storage, hydroponics areas, family living areas, underground garrisons for 500,000 troops. 100 nuclear missile silo ports. Storage facility for 1,000 aircraft and over 80,000 vehicles.

Depth- at least 2 miles beneathe the surface. All of the bunkers are located in solid granite under layers of iron and lead deposits.

Walls- Concrete, steel, titanium, and depleted uranium. The walls are up to 30 feet thick or thicker in some areas.

Number of bunkers- 2,000+

What else do you want to know.

I'll have some pics soon.

We'd be interested in having fewer bunkers, but with longer terms of endurance- screw the aircraft and Atomic Weapons.

Perhaps you'd be interested in helping us out, with construction teams, engineers, technical advice, etc?

We might be interested in helping you out...for a price, of course.

And exactlly how many bunkers are you thinking of?

The reason for the only 10 years of complete self-sufficiency is the room for supplies. The size of the storage space necessary for feeding 100 million people and maintaining all that equipment is massive.

The USSNSR is also interested in bunker systems such as this. We will be watching this as it develops. If we do indeed work out a system of bunkers, would Hamptonshire possibly be kind enough to lend some help?

Understandable. If we do go through with something of this scale, we shall contact you.

The Praetonian government may be interested in building a similar network in the near future, however we would want somethin that would support only 1million people, but would be able to support them indefinately. Do you think you could acomplish this?

Nice plan. Could probably use one of them, but considering that my isles are far, far smaller, (although there are far more of them) It would need to be primarily underwater. I would be interested in a project like this, though. (My nation is consists of a few hundred tropical islands, with a group of 20 large isles in the North West.)

Once "Project Dunkirk" nears its completion we will be happy to begin helping other nations to build their own defensive bunker systems.

This is very interesting... we have started our own project, with construction to be undertaken by Vault-Tec. We'll need other contractors, though...

If you need mining teams with experience drilling through 2 miles of solid granite, lead, and iron...give the HDC a ring.
