There was am unnatural rippling in the sea adjacent to the land of mereford.

Sea birds flew away from where they floated idly as the water began to churn and bubble with unseen energy.

Suddenly, 10 periscopes emerged from the roiling surface, creating a rather satisfying "gloop" noise as they rose.

Following the slender tubes came huge black masses punctuated with new rivets.

The submarines of Brittainica had arrived.

Wowbagger, the PM of Brittainica, replaced the receiver on his desk phone. He leant back on his expensive chair and a smirk played briefly accross his aged face.

Huge doors rumbled slowly open on the uppermost external deck of the submarines. Shouts and klaxons could be heard from below, and the odd hiss of steam was audible too.

After a short while, the white tips of the cruise missiles rose into sight, and huge plumes of white steam rose over them with a huge noise.

In staggered intervals, the massive rockets launched into the night air and flew over the disturbed sea casting glimmering highlights onto the black waves as they passed.

Illuminating the clouds, the missiles arced down towards Mereford Prime, leaving streaks of combusted aviation fuel in their wake.

Air-raid sirens blared from beneath as people ran screaming from the streets.

With huge crashes, the missiles collided with the earth and sent up massive grey clouds and chunks of concrete.

As the smoke cleared, the black-streaked hulls could be seen embedded in the road a few feet. Slowly, the curved panels unfolded, and the mysterious weapons each extended a lithe arm with a bundle of material wrapped around each.

In one swift movement, the arms snapped and a banner fell from each; a message embroidered in red on every flag:

"Bang".
