I like the 2nd one better.

The second. Otherwise, people can always argue, "It looked like a legitimate target."

The second, although, Americans may still argue it's a legitimate target, what with the red crosses on it and all that. (Joke. Don't kill me!)

Complete visibility with a battle group is not always a good thing, red crosses should be adequate markers.....

In a perfect world, maybe. Still, as hospital ships (as serious case treatment centres) are generally kept well away from battlefronts and are often adequately protected, something big and white shouldn't be a problem.

I second following maritime convention and going with the all-white scheme. Leave no ambiguity.

I'd prefer the big white one, though it kind of is a lose lose situation. The grey leaves it open to being confused for part of a battlegroup, the white one is a giant sign saying "BLOW THIS UP!" for total sadists.

And if your enemy is a total sadist that would attack hospital ships... there isn't much they can do to protect themselves anyways.

third one... it looks nothing like a combat vessal, so it would be harder to justify sinking it.

erm, the third one wasn't an option :P Just showing what hospital ships normally look like.

But Callisdrun does make a point, you should make the ship a little more boxy. IMHO - the two ships look like battleships with a red cross painted on the side.

Colorwise, take the one that's different from your normal color. You need to distinguish it from all of the other ships in your navy.

hmmm, I'd say paint giant red crosses all over it, make it less sleek looking, more like a merchant vessal.

by the way, what do you use to make your line drawings?

So, what do you do when there needs to be an emergency evac of someone off or onto the ship and it is submerged?

Well then it would rise surely? It makes no difference whether it is 1km to the east, or that distance straight down, surely.

2nd, not looking like a battleship is a plus. Speaking of which, remind me to paint crosses one my Battelships.

the bottom one, or it will look like a frigate or something, SONAR doesnt work on the sides of ships, which is where the medical symbols are, so SONAR would pick up a frigate or destroyer or something.
kinda same thing with RADAR, it just shows something, not a medical ship or anything.

id say the 4th pic you put up :P [/lame joke]

anyway, id say make a design from scratch for it that doesnt loook so much like a battleship. perhaps a multihull ship. i can sell you catamarans if you want :P

Make it look a bit like a freighter or an ocean liner. Try to make it look as little like a warship as possible

I personally think the second one is the one you should go with, although it should be put against a lightwer, more cerulean backdrop.
