“2 minutes, people,” the camera crew leader called.
President George Thatcher smoothed his tie and looked down at the papers handed to him by an official. He glanced over them and then looked up at his Intelligence Director. “All this information is accurate?”
The I.D. nodded. “There was one or two elements we could not decode, however we have enough information to go on,” he replied.
Thatcher smiled a little, looking to Vice-President Peter Jackson who stood to the corner of the room. “How d’you think the world is going to take to being warned by a nation as small as us?”
Peter returned the smile along with a shrug. “They can act on it or not; we did our job by warning them,” he replied. The broadcast was going out over all Saint-Christopher news channels, along with channels that linked to other nations.
“5 seconds, people,” the cameraman called, and Thatcher took his seat behind the desk. The room fell to an awed hush, and the TV monitors in one corner of the room showed numerous reporters all saying the same thing. “We now take you live to the President of the Democratic Republic of Saint-Christopher.”
The camera light blinked red, and Thatcher took a breath.
“My fellow citizens of the world, good evening. I speak to you all tonight of a grave and serious matter that has fallen luckily into the hands of our nation. I feel it is my duty to tell the world in a chance of averting serious loss of life.”
He glanced down at the papers a moment, before looking back up. “At 5.16 pm Zulu Time yesterday, a Saint-Christopherian submarine intercepted a coded message in transit. Intelligence sources indicate that the message may have been from a terrorist group.”
“The information we have indicates the likelihood of a devastating terrorist attack occurring on either the 11th or 12th of this month; within the next two days. Original information indicated the likelihood of terrorists entering from the air, although I must stress that those sources now indicate another method of entry is likely, albeit unknown at this time. Intelligence also suggests that the funding for this attack is in the billions of dollars, which could indicate a very large attack. Funding in that way could easily buy these terrorists a nuclear weapon to use, although we have no information on whether the attack would include WMD use.”
“Nations of the world, we must take warning here. Recent splinter groups from terrorist bodies have become increasingly extreme and radical in their attacks. Intelligence indicates the message may have originated from The Real HLF, so enemies of this group should take every and all security measures available to protect themselves.”
“These may be hard times coming, fellow nations. We must take any and all action to ensure the survival of our populaces.”
