This thread is for myself and Vernii, it will be constsiting of a war game between our respective navies. Anyone else intressted in such a thing can telegram me.
And so it begins:
“Roll hard to port!” the soprano voice seemed strange in the din of battle such a beautiful sound had no place among the chaos of battle. Yet, that is what set it apart for all those who heard the level and clear voice immediately listened for it was the sound of their leader, in whom they had the utmost of confidence. “Pull that tincan division in closer, tighten up the PD.” Her orders were carried out, now as the brilliant flashes of the pd clusters were seen, lancing out to intercept the incoming missiles, a final defensive measure which meant only one thing, which was evident a second later…
“Brace for impact!” a male voice stated as yellow tracers were seen from the ships auto-cannons, an obsolete PD measure meant to intercept what few nukes the enemy shot at their targets. Unlike laser-heads nuke were “contact” warheads, allowing modern PD to shot them down quite effectively as they closed, laser-heads detonated at 20k km making t hem much more likely to hit their targets that said, a 5 M.T nuclear detonation was more likely to cripple a target.
Brace for impact, she thought to herself was another term left over from t he wet water navies of old earth. In modern warfare where laser dealt death at the speed of light damage was already being sustained before the term was out of the ensign’s mouth.
“Laser three destroyed, aft beta nodes, crippled are gone, and accel is down to 350 g’s.”
“Present starboard broadside, Rapid Fire on all tubes” with that order the four battleships rolled and fired simultaneously, sending 145 missiles at the enemy’s capital ships containing a dreadnaught and Liberty class battleship and 4 Sultan Battle Cruisers. The missile duel has been going on for a while with the enemy getting the worst of the exchange, the battle would go well if she could keep the enemy at a distance which was now unlikely with the damage to her ships Accel, a lucky hit that has ruinied her chances for victory. The enemy employed the same tactic, for missile defense and returned fire sending 150 missiles, 60 of them were smaller missiles from the BC’s that did not have the same destructive potential of those fired from Battleships, much less a Dreadnaught. Which explained why the enemy was desperately trying to close to energy range, their single DN contained just as much firepower as all four of her BB’s. Just at two brilliant flashes blinded those on the bridge,
“Nuclear Detonation, we lost the Canard and Williamstown.” The loss of the tincan division meant their PD screen was getting weaker.
“Have the LC’s fill in the gap, increase our distance from the enemy and Kill that DN!”
“Twenty seconds until the enemy is within energy range! We can outrun them ma’am their accel is too high.” The tactical officer stated, the Commonwealth Navy (CN) DN class vessels had an accel which was a faster then the Vernii built BB at 475 g’s when undamaged. Which showed the benefit of investment into internal compensators research, speed in battle was survival for the CN, which was something her command lost, she hoped to defeat the enemy at a distance, with the increased missiles complement of the Triumphant-A in her command but failed. Now she would pay the price.
Present port broadside as soon as they enter energy range pour it on! We will see how many of them we take with us.” She stated with grim determination.
“Firing now!” with that the ships of both commands fired their first energy salvos, these light-speed weapons where insanely powerful at ranges less then 40k km, and often were the deciding factor in battles, as the energy weapons of BB’s and larger classes could penetrate the armor of ventral and dorsal sections of ships. It was all over in a single broadside. Her flagship the BB Excalibur was targeted by half the energy weapons of the DN, the 400cm Grasers, and 375 cm lasers tore through the armor of her ship, the DN captain targeting her ships beta and alpha nodes looking to cripple her ship, they succeeded, as her ships wedge failed, but it wasn’t the graser that killed her directly it was the fusion reactors overloading as the beta nodes were hit, the chain reaction turned the previously only lightly damaged ship into molten slag. The same occurred on two other battleships of her taskforce, the fourth was heavily damaged but not killed. The sidewalls of the DN deflected most of her TF’s return fire but not all, it too was as crippled as her last BB, yet her surviving ships did not survive the return fire, neither did the DN, but the fact remained her command was wiped out, whereas the enemy still had a BB and 4 BC’s alive. She failed, as bile rose into her mouth as the vacuums activated removing the smoke from the bridge and the air-conditioning return the ships internal temperature to 64 degrees F, 40 less then it was in battle. The “enemy” commander’s face appeared on her com screen.
“May I commend you on a battle well fought Dame Covington. Had it not been for the damage to your ships nodes in the missile engagement things may not have turned out the way they did”
“Yes, if we are to adopt missile engagement doctrine we must find a balance between the Number of missiles we can put out without crippling our Energy batteries, and if anything I think this battle proves that Battleships can not handle a Dreadnaught at energy range.”
“I would say that is evident, which explains why we have so few BB in our navy, we can’t afford producing them in large numbers, and they can’t stand against real ships of the wall, unless they can keep the range open.” Thier diaolouge continued as their ships regrouped and returned to base.
With elements of the People’s navy due to arrive at their Fleet station in mere hours, the CN, decided to run a couple initial exercises such as the one just witness to feel out Vernii ships that were recently bought, to supplement the CN. It was agreed that War games would be an interesting exercise between the two nations, and go a long ways to forming a bond between the two nations. With the war games with the Vernii approaching in the next couple days, the data drawn from those engagements would be beneficial for the developing CN.
(I will post a link to my fact book soon which will have information on my navy and system soon, Vernii feel free to bring what ever you want for the exercise, hell show of force would be cool, open to anything for our games here.)
