Bonstock invades Yemen

(TV in Bonstock) "No, Jack, don't die!" *crying noises*

*screen goes blank* *viewer's voice: "Aw that was my favorite soap opera! They were just gonna kill off Jack!"

TV announcer: "We interrupt this broadcast to bring you a special report: After a supposed incident where a Bonstocknian fishing trawler was destroyed in the Gulf of Aden, Bonstock has invaded Yemen. More updates later..."

Meanwhile, in the Gulf of Aden, 12,000 miles away from Bonstock

Marine Specialist Andrew Plank walked with his unit in the dark night, climbing down the stairs aboard the Wasp class amphibious ship, Beetle. The air was musty, and if felt rather hot, even though it was the dead of night. The waves rattled around, giving a swaying sensation that reminded the men of the 1st Marine Division how far they were from Bonstock.

Plank decended into a large parking garage. Dozens of AAAVs were parked, waiting to be driven onto the beaches of the desert place that most Bonstocknians had only read about.

Many of the soldiers had not known of this operation until just a few minutes ago. Something in the news had told them that a fishing ship mysteriously sank in the Gulf of Aden, but many thought that this particular deployment was a mere training exercise. Funny, thought Plank, that it would be kept a secret so long.

The soldiers were briefed that the mission should take no longer then two months, if all went as planned. Since this was an absolute surprise to anyone, it was figured that there would be very little in the way of shore defenses. The soldiers were told to avoid any armed confrontation, and simply take their objective: the port city of Aden. Later, follow up forces would help sieze the Yemenese capital of Sana'a, and would pacify resistance.

As Plank climbed into the AAAV, his gear pushing down on his 18 year old back, he thought about the situation he was about to be in. He had seen images of the Civil War in Bonstock. He was a ten year old when the Government Maropians marched victoriously through Port Yuko, and he was frieghtened by the soldiers' vast array of weaponry.

Though he was quite opposed to war, he could do nothing to fight the conscription. Every Bonstocknian citizen was required to do a year of military service. Plank looked over to his right. A soldier in his section, a SAW gunner, was a woman, along with many other soldiers now crowded into the damp Advanced Amphibious Assault Vehicle. As Plank looked over, the gunner smiled at him. Plank smiled back, for a moment distracted from the events about to unfold.

This moment was short lived. In an instant, the vehicle roared to life. It decended down a ramp, and splashed into the well deck, and floated out. The driver spun the vehicle around, and headed for shore. Then he looked up, and, though under his breath, said something that the whole craft heard: "Holy mother of God!"

"What the hell's goin on up there?" demanded a soldier opposite Plank.

A loud noise confirmed the statement. Jets were in the air. "I swear I see two thousand planes in the sky!" said the driver, fixed to his window. The jets, from 12 Elessar class aircraft carriers, flew overhead, twisting and turning about. Aden loomed in the distance, situated on a penninsula that was to be cut off by the 1st Marines.

The jets, F-35s, E-6s, and a host of others, flew in low for all to hear. They flew over the city, dropping JDAMs at various targets, including military barracks and government buildings. Some strafed the beaches where the Marines would land. Then 72 Zumwalt destroyers, the escorts of the carriers, fired 1440 hypersonic land attack missiles at targets in Aden and Sana'a, and fired 155mm cannons at the shore.

Then the enemy responded. Two dozen Osa patrol boats, with missiles, appeared out of the harbor. They fired off missiles at the ships, though did not seem to make much impression on the invaders. Until a large boom occured just near the AAAV. The driver looked over. A Navy destroyer was hit, and her magazines blew. Shrapnel flew everywhere, and crewmembers were flung into the air. Covered in oil, they tried to swim away from their sinking ship. The driver turned, but a voice on the radio blared, "Don't pick the sailors up! You're not a rescue boat! Get to shore!" The driver turned back to shore. As Bonstocknian planes wizzed above, now focusing on airfields around Aden, 233 AAAVs hit the shore, and quickly advanced into Aden. There were scattered pockets of resistance, but nothing like was feared. The invasion being an abolute surprise with no warning, the city fell quickly, with port facilities intact. 180 RO/RO cargo ships came into the port, their CIWS fighting off random, uncoordinated anti-ship missiles, and being preceded by 18 minesweepers. Some 36 divisions were scheduled for deployment, but for now, as Plank dismounted to take defensive positions, they were vulnerable. It would be a long time until he slept again. Artillery was brought up to Aden, and a duel between Yemenese and Bonstocknian artillery ensued. Plank dug into a foxhole just outside Aden to try to wait it out.

ooc: I don't get the impression that many people care... :(

cool!

ic: As tanks started rolling off the ramps of their RO/RO ships, they came under heavy artillery fire from the enemy. A couple of Scuds at the Bonstocknians, only to hit in the bay harmlessly. It had been twelve hours since the invasion began. Already, five Bonstocknian Army divisions, the 1st and 2nd Mechanized, the 1st Light, the 1st Airborne, and the 1st Air Assault divisions were on the ground, comprising of all of I Corps. Also, Marines siezed Aden Airport, and it became a base for 10 Bonstocknian Airforce wings, each with 54 F-35As. Air support flew overhead, and the Bonstocknians pounded the ground. A convoy of tanks and trucks headed down the road from Sana'a was checked by airpower, along with the artillery firing on the Bonstocknian positions. Marines and I Corps started a steady advance to Sana'a. With the 1st Airborne and 1st Light divisions securing the mountain flanks, the 1st and 2nd Mechanized divisions marched on Sana'a. The Marines were to guard supply lines and pacify Aden, and the 1st Air Assault division was held in reserve.

"Sir, what should we do with Dundaine's assasins?"

"Assasinate the leaders of Yemen! This will cause disorder, which will lead to our assault by 1st Air Assault Division and his Airborne Marines."

"All right."

Also, send the 5th Assasins team to shoot the leaders of Yemen.

Meanwhile, 1st and 2nd Mechinaized Divisions continued advancing. Every five miles or so along the road, a machine gunner would fire, stopping the convoy. An RPG would then fly and hit the Bonstocknian tanks, and at least 13 Leapord IIS tanks and 24 CV-90s were knocked out of action. Sometimes, a battery of artillery would engage the Bonstocknians, only to be silenced by Bonstocknian Crusader artillery pieces. The Bonstocknian 1st Light division and 1st Airborne were busy pacifying pockets of resistance along the path. By nightfall, D+24 hours, the Bonstocknians were on the outskirts of Sana'a, having incurred 86 dead and 254 wounded casualties.

MEanwhile, Bonstocknian mechanized forces form a ring around Sana'a. 54 B-2 bombers fly in, striking key facilities with prescision munitions. Then, 75 Apache helicopters fly in, shooting at tanks and other vehicles in the city, and 75 Chinook helicopters land troops of the 1st Air Assault Division. They then fly back and fly in another wave.

I Corps breaks the outer defenses of the city, and storms the area. The city is declared secure as II and III Corps become operational around Aden.

4 Elessar aircraft carriers with escort move into the Red Sea to prevent any hostile movements. At any given moment, 60 F-35Bs are flying over the force, striking enemy targets nearby.

In addition, 1,500 F-35As from the Bonstock Air Force are operational. 540 at any time are flying all around Yemen, and will attack any hostile aircraft.

"Sir, w've got a flight of about 300 transport aircraft en route to Yemen. They are carrying the Tyrandis 82 and 101 Airborne Divisions, according to intelligence reports, about 30,000 men in total. Their destination seems to be Sana'a."

"Roger. Deploy all avaliable forces to intercept."

"Yes, sir."

Meanwhile, Jean Bonstock was flying in an F-35A, somehwere near Sana'a. Suddenly, the radio crackled. "All fighters report to programed waypoints."

The waypoint was somewhere around Sana'a. Jean turned the F-35, and with the squadron of 18, flew to the point. A large number of fighters was gathered, about 540, representing 10 fighter wings.

"All units vector 270 to intercept for 30, 30,000"

"Confirmed." said each of the squadron leaders over the radio. Each of the 30 squadrons of 18 turned, and faced off their enemy. They flew up, high into the sky. Another voice crackled on the radio.

"All units free to engage."

The 540 Bonstocknian fighters dove out of the sky, upon about 300 transports with no escort. Jean got a lock on one, and fired an AIM-120 at it. It was all over in a matter of seconds.

"Holy shit!" yelled a pilot, watching as the swarms of fighters gathered around the Solaris transports. Missiles blazed through the formation, and although most escaped unharmed thanks to ECM and flares, 7 burst into flames, resulting in the deaths of 70 pilots and gunners.

"DAMNIT! All pilots, open fire with the 35mm flak cannons and missile bay!"

The C-249s level their powerful guns and rockets at the formations, and open up with a wave of fire...

"Listen up! We're under attack by F-35s, and although we can hold them off for awhile, we need to get outta here! Send distress signals to the defenders!"

The transport craft quickly move towards to capital, hoping that the new defense systems would protect them long enough for rescue...

With 12 Elessar class aircraft carriers standing watch in the Gulf of Aden and the Red Sea, determined to prevent any heavy enemy forces from getting through to Yemen, the Bonstocknian I Corps presented surrender terms to the Yemenese government. Having captured the leaders, they are forced to sign a treaty making Yemen a Bonstocknian protectorate. Since most of the nation was left intact, with almost no damage to infrastructure, police, and other necessities, rebuilding was considered unnessicary. Yemen will continue to be self governed and will have a military, but will be forced to provide bases for Bonstocknian troops and allow Bonstocknian companies to drill for oil without restriction. The government of Yemen formally surrendered.

This, of course, triggered an imidiate backlash. Across the nation, dozens of attacks were reported on Bonstocknian troops. At least 56 were left dead, many more wounded. One perticular attack was carried out by a suicide motorboat laden with explosives, which attacked a Bonstocknian aircraft carrier. Damage was miniscule, but 5 Bonstocknians died.

ooc: This should not require a long occupation, like Iraq. In Iraq, the US completely destroyed what little infrastructure there was. I took the nation whole, without doing much damage. The US has lenghty rebuilding to do. I do not.

All Yemen will really do is be a base for our troops and ships, and be a source of our oil.

OOC: No offense to your rping Bonstock/MC, but aren't there still forces within Yemen that are fighting you? (Tryandis, TheDarkPickles, Qen Land, LRR, Matich and Whittier to name a few) You haven't even let them respond to your claim that you have captured the Yemenese leaders; who, last time you talked about them, were being assasinated by you and Dundaine's assasins.

And how did you "force" these captured leaders...torture? Coersion? Corruption?

Perhaps you should have waited a little longer to see if anyone had claimed, in the past, to have stationed troops in/around the area. The way this war seems to be going, you walked past fortified Whittier positions...

The Hungarian Empire of Northwestern Liang, under the strong rule of Emperor Arpad Hunyadi, will assist Bonstock in subduing and defending Yemen. Currently, after much debate, a large invasion force carrying some 70,000 men as a preliminary force will be positioned near Yemen, to be followeds up by several much larger fleets should the conflict escalate. You have the full support of the Magyars in your endeavor, with one catch: we want a small strip of coastline (not nessesarily with oil) for ourselves. Otherwise, the millions of soldiers at the Emperor's call will gladly die for the cause.

[The oil may not be in Yemen... but the oil is NEAR Yemen, which has a number of ports and the capability to house troops and airstrips. Yemen has the potential to be a staging ground for attacks northward into Saudi Arabia and Al Anbar, who have the actual oil reserves.

Then again, this could just be a geological-survey error on the part of Bonstock, but I doubt its just a war to sate a psychological thirst for imperialism].

IC:

The 101st reaches the capital several days later in their Shadowhawk helicopter transports. Although hampered by a loss of speed, the diversionary sacrifice of the C-249s allowed the division to pass by relatively unnoticed.

Later, the 82nd arrives to bolster the ranks of the 101st with armor units, ensuring that Sana'a is defended against all comers.

The large group of soldiers receive their briefing from Maj. General Kevin Sadeq...

"Our mission is to defend the capital and drive Bonstockian and Maropian Coast forces away from Yemen. The 82nd will stand by and defend OBJECTIVE CITADEL. The 101st will assist all attacks led against invading forces. Air support is unavailable, so all fighting will be done on ground with Stryker IFVs and Paladin tanks.

Reinforcements will arrive within the week. The 75th Ranger Regiment, 160th SOAR, and 84th OpRecon will further attack enemy forces.

Notes:

1) Bonstock's naval units defend the Gulf of Aden... anyone seeking to come in from that direction will need to engage them before they reach shore.

2) Matich controls the Suez and Gibraltar. Anyone seeking to go through the mediterranean or suez needs to deal with his forces (Liang, this may be you especially, since I think you're located in the area of Hungary). Deploying across the Suez to Sana'a is thus still quite possible for defending reinforcements who do not wish to enter the Gulf.

3) Bonstock, you simply cant just declare victory and ignore anything that stands against you. Whittier has already expressly posted about forces in Sana'a... at least 500 troops, defending the Yemen leadership. At the very least, you and he need to resolve that combat before you can claim to hold the leaders of Yemen. In addition, there are defending forces deployed and arriving in the area... these too must be engaged.

Aden, certainly, is securely yours at this point. But the fight for Sana'a still has a long way to go.

POWs on all sides are to be released to their respective countries with the utmost expedience.
