Tesla Coil Planned to be built (yes some thing out of C&

Named after its inventor, Nikola Tesla, this high-energy device is used when great amounts of light, heat and energy are needed for sustained periods of time. The typical coil consists of placing two metal rods (usually steel and brass) in a salt solution, and running a small electric charge into the solution. The electricity runs up both of the metal rods, releasing electrons into the air, with the positive electrons moving to the brass rod and the negative to the steel rod. As these electrons move faster and faster, strong electrical currents are built up and begin arcing between the two poles. You see the same thing happen anytime there is a lightning storm.

That says it all the fed union plans to have a hudge number of these in service on tanks defnsive plat froms and even ships no doubt.

Lol yeah i know what your thinking its no good but hey its from red alert and it could be used for milltary.

We are partnering with the TFU in this program. The Alexandria Armory Co. will build the first Telsa Ship for testing.

Hmmm any one opnions ? or am i an idiot to even post this ?

Actually, it would require immense amounts of power to transmit it even a few centimetres. Have you seen the programs with these electrodes being tested? They put as much voltage and so forth as is put into a lightning strike, and keep it constant, and somebody can get within 3cm before striking them. Also, if they were in a car they would be fine. They also show you what happens in that circumstance too.
Sorry to try and deflate your idea fed, I'd love a tesla coil too. But it's not happening.

If a weponized tesla coil was feasable, we'd already have one.

Humm i would use nuclar reactors .....

and it is peole just called tesla crazy ... they dont want to sepend the money or effort trying to build one.

it is possible but to make it go more than 3cm you would have to have a metallic, magnetized ball and lighting would have to strike it . then it could go just over 2 feet but the power would be greatly reduced and you couldnt controil what target it would hit.

Fed. I'm not trying to destroy what you want to build, go ahead if you want. You would need to place another reactor on your ship, as if you used the coil more than once or twice you would drain the system to a large extent. If you succeed though, you would have super cool ships.

A nuclear reactor for a single coil, when there are much more efficient weapons available?

A tesla coil is only workable in C&C. To charge an electrical beam so much that it would seek out something of the opposite charge (positive I believe) from more than a foot away would take an entire nuclear reactor. That would make the weapon prohibitively expensive. Why waste the money and resources when you can just make a laser or railgun based system that could do equivelent damage, without the scathing disadvantages offered by a tesla coil?

Somebody already has developed Tesla Coils on NS, Silreetis I believe. Talk to him, Robert.

Bump and im tyring to do it as modern tech .... or at least tech tpo 2010 . i think it could work if i had anuclar reactor power sevral land baced coils and as for sea 2 rectors would do to power multiple.

Other than the power issues, which have been addressed numerous times, I'm wondering just how you plan to direct what it shoots.

I never made a tesla coil, I made a tesla turbine(really efficient engine). And tesla coils would be a poor choice for a weapon.

however

Tesla was working on a 'death-ray'(some sort of charged particle beam), and had several accidents involving fireballs(ball lightning) that proved to be very dangerous. If you could work either of those out you'd be set.

however

Even though his concepts were feasible, and he was a really cool guy in general, if tesla weapons are made as powerful as he proposed they could be, I will ignore them.

Tesla=Good
Tesla Superweapons=Bad

We've used electrical weapons (not tesla coils) before and here are a few concerns/comments:

1. It won't nesscesarily take a nuclear reactor. If you make the air conductive, as we do through ultraviolet lasers (OOC: They have prototypes of things like this is real life), called ionising, then it can conduct electricity over the currents of ionised air. Since it does it by an ultraviolet laser, then the line is straight through the air and it can be fired at a person. If it hits a vehicle with a metal exterior, then it will disable the electronics in it.

2. While we do have electrical based weaponry on ships, do not use it for ship-to-ship. Water conducts, you know. Use it against shore targets.

I was just going to point this out, firing electricity into water your sitting in wouldnt be the best idea.
