The IDF Newport News shipyards has announced their first modern destroyer design for export. The FARRAGUT class, a design based off of the DD-21. There are 3 variants, 1 stealth destroyer, 1 stealth blockade runner (smuggler). and 1 armed blockade runner

1. standard destroyer, Farragut class

OVERVIEW: This is multi-purpose AEGIS capable destroyer that can fight other ships, kill subs, provide air-cover, and attack ground targets. This ship can act alone or in large battlegroups.

Most of the hull above the water-line is made of a composite meant to reduce radar signature to make this a "stealth" destroyer. It does have a radar signature, but a very small one. Helicopter hangars, while not included can be added, but increase radar signature. The design is based on the Zumwalt class from the US Navy.

The ship comes with a landing platform and the equipment to refuel choppers, but not shelter them in a hanger without an addtion.

The ships are Helicopter capable, but Hangars don't come standard.
With a reduction of 60 missile cells in the aft a helicopter hangar for 1 helo can be added.

The additional costs are $65 million

With the removal of 75 cells, a 2 Helicopter hangar can be added

Costs are $100 million extra

SH-60F Seahawk ASW LAMP III helos are included in the Hangar costs and can be removed for a rebate of $30 million each.

2. Fast Merchant, Blockade Runner Farragut]

Overview: This is an unarmed version of the Farragut class destroyer. The VLS weapon tubes have been removed to provide spacious aft and bow cargo spaces. A hangar for 2 choppers has been built, this can be used for cargo or helos, which run at 30 million each if you buy them from me.

Some of the quarters for the crew that would normaly run the weapons systems have been removed and converted to cargo holds.

MAX cargo Tonnage, 10,000 tons, but the helo hangar adds 1,000 more

This makes a good ship for smuggling or just running by enemy blockades.

RADAR, SONAR, guns, and decoy defensive systems are unchanged as is the ASROC torpedo launcher.

ADDITIONAL WEAPON, SM-1 SAM launcher with 12 missiles in storage to fend off air attacks, launched from single launch rail on the roof of the hangar.

COSTS: $500 MILLION


3. armed merchant destroyer, Farragut armed cargo ship

OVERVIEW: This is a mixture of the two variants. The after VLS launchers have been removed for cargo spaces while the forward cells remain for any missiles you wish to have. There are a total of 94 cells remaining. Check variant 1 to see what number of each type of missiles can be placed in each cell.

TOTAL cargo without helo hangar= 5,000 tons

Some of the excess crew quarters are once again converted into cargo holds. A 2 helicopter hanger is on the after deck for use as a hangar or as a cargo space of 1,000 tons. These ships make good smugglers, attackers, escorts, or even stealth sub tenders for diesel subs.

The non VLS-weapon systems like guns and torpedoes are untouched as are all other systems

COSTS: $800 MILLION

How much would we be looking at just for a stealth ship. No weapons no extra or equipment just a ship undetectable to radar?

The hull herself with engines and navigation and basic systems required for saling are $450 million. That is without any weapons systems. I can have some built for you. Speed will actually increase to 36-37 knots

No ship is completely stealth, but if you have no radars, passive ESM systems won't detect you, The hull has a low Radar cross section due to its design, and the composite hull can reflect radar waves and won't give a return.

As for subs, she has the Prairie/Masker system that destroys passive ability. The engines are fairly quiet. But, an active sub SONAR can detect you, but the ship has aneoich tiles that subs have to avoid active radar detection. Besides, subs only use active after getting a passive contact when they know a ship is there. They won't know you are there.

This ship has a great ability to store cargo. We will remove the VLS system and make it the aft and bow cargo holds. The mid ships crew section is being removed to give you more cargo space. The ship can easily carry 10,000 tons of supplies. I would recommend it for blockade running. (note, I am removing some of the crew quarters for cargo room since you don't need a crew to manage the weapons systems)
