Dear Honored Ministers of the World:

Currently, the great region of the Northern Papal States is embroiled in a civil war following the unjust assassination of a member nation's Vice President by the military forces of another member nation. Since this incident, a great polarization has occured in the region and our Grand Alliance has found itself faced by an equally strong axis supporting the right to such intolerable acts of terrorism.

In light of what is sure to be a horrendous and bloody civil war, I, the founder of the NPS and Chairman of the Grand Alliace, have decided to ask for military support from the other great military and economic powers of the world in putting a quick end to this civil war.

Please respond to our cry for peace and justice, and help make a positive difference in this great world of ours. Any help is appreciated, and all help is accepted.

Respectfully,
Duke W. Castel of the Most Serene Republic of Castellammare
Elected Chairman of the Grand Alliance of the NPS

ABOARD USS FARRAGUT, experimental destroyer based on DD-21 class, stealthed warship

RADAR: Skipper, our radar is off, but our ESM systems have detected a rebel Arleigh Burke class US origin destroyer. I am recieving what appears to be emitions from a SPY-1D AEGIS air-search radar. I believe our ship hasn't been detected.

CO: Conn aye. XO, set condition 1AS.

XO: Aye, aye. BATTLESTATIONS!!!

Bosun over 1MC: General Quarters, General Quarters, all hands man your battlestations for anti-surface warfare.

2 minutes later in CIC.

Tactical action officer: We have a good enough radar return from ESM to launch our missiles. We are in a war zone and we have a hostile ship bearing 270 at a range of 25 miles. I recommend we fire.

XO: I concur sir.

CO: OK, lets make it so. Bosun, inform the crew we are about to fire missiles:

Chief Bosun Mate: Aye, over 1MC now.

CO: OK, Weps, prepare Tommahawk anti-ship missiles from VLS cells 1-4 for launch.

Weps: Aye sir.

TAO: weapons are ready.

CO: set ESM data in missiles. Have independent radars go on at 10 miles.

Weps: aye. missiles are ready.

CO: OK, open VLS tubes and FIRE!

Weps. weapons have fired and are in the air. Estimate flight time of 2 minutes.

CO: Light up radars in 10 seconds and spin up all SAMs. They will launch a missile or two.

Weps: aye

RADAR: aye

RADAR: Our missiles are at 10 miles from target, time is 35 secs and... Missiles in the air. 2 Harpoons, make that 4. I think they empied the starboard magazine! They can't fire any more at this time.

CO: Launch chaff. fire SM-2 missiles.

WEPS: aye sire, the VLS can launch 16 and just did within 5 seconds.

RADAR: range to their missiles to us is 21 miles. THey will encounter the SAMs in 40 seconds.

while this was going on, the 1st TASM approached the Burke class destroyer. While she had AEGIS, she had not been at GQ and ready for this since they thought they were alone in that area.

No SAMs had been launched in time, but her 2 CIWS phalanx guns fired at the 1st missile. At a range of 35 yards, they hit it, but the 1000 pound warhead went off. Fragments ripped throught the ship as much of the warhead still did its damage.

The forward superstructure including the ASROC, bridge, CIC, and forward CIWS along with all the SAM radars were replaced by a wall of flame. Actually all the RADARs were gone and with them the ability to fire at the remaining missiiles. The surviving crew knew they were gonners.

The 2nd missile hit only 3 seconds later. This one hit above the waterline just aft of the superstructure. It hit in the area of the VLS launch cells cooking off the missiles and causing a monsterous explosion that was to be expected when the magazines were hit. The after 100 feet of the ship was separated from the rest of the hull.

The 3rd hit just under the forward gun blowing up the forward magazine. A similar explosion occured. The ship quickly desintigrated, no one survived. The 4th missile went into the burning wreckage of the dead ship.

Back on USS Farragut.

The captain watched nervously as the blips approached. He was lucky. The SM-2 MR had a hit rate of 75% in this case. 16 were launched for 4 missiles.

When all was said and done, only 7 missiles were neccesary, but it was better to be safe than sorry. The captain ordered them to conduct SAR as the helos lifted off of other ships to conduct rescure operations, but it was a futile attempt. The Farragut stood down from battlestations as the Bosun went out to paint a red sillohuette of a ship along the bridge wing.
