CK-ROC systems, Taiwan's largest defense company, has allocated $1bn to the creation of a next-generation CAS aircraft to replace the A-10 in the Close Air Support role, and also as a cheap alternative to the expensive JSF program which has experienced cost increases lately.
There will be two versions designed - one STOVL version specifically for carriers, and another ESTOL version designed for airbases. The emphasis will be on survivabilty, cost effectiveness, and durability.
Focus areas of the research program will be a new durable and low maintenance RAM, along with new AGMs.
