DGNT to institute slavery?

EDIT: Or, as Resi puts it, Contractual Servant, just assume an exchange of any instance of the word 'slave' with contractual servant or something with the same meaning :P.

A recent government survey found that DGNTs unemployment/poverty rates are skyrocketing, and as such, a policy of Indentured Service has been proposed.
While some citizens are opposed to the policy, most greet it with open arms as a way to work off debt and obtain three meals a day plus a roof to sleep under.
The government has also begun establishing rules to govorn the treatment of slaves and ensure a healthy existance under their 'master' a sampling:
Inspectors will be enforcing all of the following laws.
None are to be broken, bent or otherwise damaged, on pain of pain.
-No citizen, tourist, or any sentient being may be forced into slavery
-No slave shall starve. Slaves must be givin three meals a day, one meat, the meals must provide for slaves, according to the amount and type of work performed by the slave.
-No slave shall sleep outdoors. Slaves must have up-to-code housing. No roof leaks, unstable foundations or otherwise. Slave quarters will be held to the same standards as all other buildings.
-No slave shall be mistreated. Slaves are not to be physicaly, mentaly or in any way abused except in the course of self defence or to prevent escape.
-Slaves shall be equal under the law. Slaves testimony will be treated as any other citizens in the court of law
-No slave shall work more than a ten hour day. Standard DGNT work day.
-No slaves religion shall be violated. A slaves religious beliefs must be respected. If a slaves religion forbades work on sundays, they cannot be forced to work on sundays.
-Slaves shall wear a temporary ear-tag for the duration of their service, a transmitter will be implanted to prevent escape.
-Slaves are to be paid minimum wage, AT LEAST. G4.50 per work hour.
-Slaves will obey their master unless it violates any of the listed laws.

As has been stated, slavery is not permenant. A slave will work until his debt is paid, and is then free. The alternative is of course, jail.
There is always a choice.

The Mikosolf Corperation, the owners of AFRP, do not feel that is slavery, all their "citizens" (employies is far more accurate) follow the general idea placed in that and none of them feeled inslaved.

We at Resi Corp feel this is perfectly fine, even if we were a nation that believed heavily in human rights. However, we think you might want to replace the term "slave" with "servent", lest you stir up unwanted feelings remaining from the Amerigo slave war.

DGNT simply feels that the term servant would not apply, since a servant is typically capable of simply quitting, whereas a slave cannot simply throw down his shovel and say 'No, I will not clean the cesspit again,".

It causes far too much ill will for its own good, especially with human rights nations that don't like to read/listen.

I got into a mess defending a slave-trader like this once...although they did end up being a horrible exploitationist dictatorship, who I was supporting against the will of half the NS world, seemingly.

Err, I was rather unaware of another company in my state which is dominated by GLACORP, y'see, other buisnessess tend to explode and/or catch fire rather quickly.

It would likely be listed as a 'embassy' by most people. Quincy Minning is a Soverign Corporation so it tends to label things a bit oddly. Actually it is more of a joke post demonstrating that one could very easily turn your 'indentured servents' into permanent slaves...

Which is why I prefer a state run corporation, as opposed to lots of greedy squabbling buisnessmen who are only looking out for themselves.

In any case, such treatment would come under 'abuse' and be dealt with quite sharply in a state where the Judicial system actualy works.

Yes, Change it to Servant of the State - The GDI is against slavery - although this doesnt sound much like slavery.

One of our colonies has such punishments, but crime is very low there.

I did at one point send 120,000 communist dissidents off to forced labor, but during the Civil War they all got killed after they escaped and joined the Rebel army.

Dontgonearthere, can you bump up your old storefront? I keep meaning to buy stuff from it...

GLACORP, it is.

And US, its because they ARE our equals, simply in a state of temporary finnancial trouble, which will be gone in a year or two. A man who is beaten half to death every day has little chance of getting back into society, so we desire to PREVENT this from happening. Of course, he can still be 'bought' and 'sold', its just that DGNT trade regulations prevent shipping sapient beings out of country, so he wont go too far. And a monorail ticket from the Psuedopolis (Far north of the country) to G'oaway (Far south) costs about G5.95, so they can get home quite easily.
