Our Chief of Naval Operations is proud to announce the purchase of a Nimitz carrier battle group. The ship is to christened as the USS HALSEY, named for the great American WWII Admiral in the Pacific theater. Total makeup of the battle group is on the provided link. Total purchase was $23 billion. The 2nd carrier will allow us to have at least 1 carrier at sea at all times and sometimes 2.
There are no plans for the Halsey group to go abroad. She will work up after crew training and run exercises with our other carrier group with the USS Constelation, a decommissioned and mothballed Kitty Hawk class US carrier that was retired in Aug. 2003 and sold to us after being replaced by the USS Ronald Reagan.
Constelation's group is still in the Black Sea for the Al Anbar war where she is sailing, but not conducting combat flight ops at this time.
