Empire Class Battleship

This ship is the pride of the Argyllian Fleet, designers took the hull of an Iwoan class Battleship and placed weapon systems upon it. The VLS system is huge and is the main armament of the vessel. Currently their are 18 in Argyllian service, 4 of which have seen action and not had their paint scratched.

This ship provides the main air defence for Argyllian Fleets, it's VLS systems are specially designed to carry the extended range Aster 90 SAM. There are 27 in comission at the moment but superb performance has made the Argllian MoD think about an extra order of these fantastic ships.

These ships are basically a advanced design of the type 23 frigate. It's obselete Sea Wolf has been torn out and replaced with the more capable PAAMS with Aster 90 missiles (extended range Aster 30) and the latest Harpoon missile avliable. The Lynx ASW has been replaced with the Merlin which is far more capable. There are currently 45 serving in the Argyllian Navy, 2 have been sunk in combat but showed great resilence.

This is a lengthened Type 45 Class Destroyer to accomadate a extra 32 cells on the VLS, this slows the speed down to 29 knots as Nuclear Power was ruled out because of extensive cost. This is one of the finest Destroyers in NS ?(if you classify destroyer as between 5,000-8,000 tons). There are 36 Destroyers in the Argyllian fleet and are the primary Air Defence ships

A bit of concern: neither the forward nor rear turrets would be able to fire fore or aft as the case might be as doing so would seriously damage and possibly prematurely explode the missiles in the VLS tubes, presuming they are positioned fore of the A & B turrets and aft of the Y turret, unless of course the 3 16" just refer to the A turret, and the VLS are in the B and Y positions (If neither case, just disregard). Also, as the design shows the battleship has several RAM launchers and dual purpose 5" guns (even listing them as the proposed 155mm AGS), you might as well list them, and if you remove two of the main gun turrets, you could probably slap in a few Yakhont-3 missiles firing from a VLS (as in my Monarch-class design (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130822), with the Yakhonts replacing the B turret).

On the cruiser, you could probably replace the 5" guns with single-mount 8" guns, as the Americans had considered doing with the Spruance-class ships in the 1980s.

Just a thought.

Ther is no way you can buy 100 of these they cost around 250 million a year to maintain which in itself is more than you can afford. 10 is your maximum.

Sorry by underpowered i meant undergunned. A battleship with only 16 inch guns isnt very impressive. My battlecruisers have 18 inch guns and my battleships have 22 inch guns. So maybe you should consider upgrading your guns.

The Iowa itself would be considered a Battlecruiser, sacrificing armour for speed. How well armoured is your "Battlecruiser" Welsh Kingdoms? And also, if it isn't fast it really isn't considered a "Battlecruiser" but a Battleship in itself. I'd consider a ship with 18" guns a Battleship none-the-less, and not a Battlecruiser.

[OOC: Only three 16 inch guns for a battleship? That seems awfully underarmed. Otherwise, it seems pretty comparable to the Iowa class battleship.]

In this case the 16" guns are a secondary armament, the VLS is the primary armament. It has 196 cells a huge ammount of missiles that can be fired in a relatively small amount of time. A review of the Fleets battleships 2 years ago revealed that to replace 16" guns with 18" or 20" would result in a increase of over 30,000 tons putting total tonnage at 100,000 tons which would be the same size of my carriers. A proposed project is for a 12 gun 18" Battleship for inshore bombardment, this without the VLS would weigh in at 88,000 tons. Thanks for the comment.
