Raysia Aerospace's new hypersonic Luxury Jet

Got an international business meeting that can't run on just teleconferencing? Need to get to the other side of the planet in under two hours? Well, then you probably already have a scramjet hyperplane from some other company. So what does Raysia have to offer?

Speed AND Luxury

The Raysia Aerospace LT-118 "Hyper-Z"

Max Performace Stats: (These are by no means the normal cruising stats, these would be the max-power stats)
Takeoff to Mach 1: 120 seconds
Mach 1 to Mach 4 (point where SCRamjet engages): 520 seconds
Mach 4 to Mach 8.5 (all engines running) at 90,000 ft: 509 seconds

Now you've done it! This has got to be beyond 2020/Modern tech..

anyone have any comments/challenges to the design? I didn't put TOO much throught into it, Just let loose on my modeller :P

The federation will also purchase 20 of these fine aircraft.

How do you solve the problem of surface temperatures at mach 8 being extreme?
05-04-2004, 01:13
After a suggestion IMed to me by Late Earth, I have added fins to the design. Reload the main pic to see the addition.

brandoniats: Order confirmed, will arrive in 6 months.

Fluffywuffy: Surface temperatures? I didn't know that would be much of a problem... Mach 8 would be at 80,000 feet (minimum), so I don't think it will have too many problems.

Let me see how high 80,000 feet is....24.38 km. It is still within the stratosphere. The SR-71 had heat taken into consideration, and it flew at 85,000 feet. Within the Troposphere (lowest part of the atmosphere), Mach 8 flight reaches surface temperatures of 3100 C

Within the Troposphere (lowest part of the atmosphere), Mach 8 flight reaches surface temperatures of 3100 Cyeah, umm, that's why we don't fly low. What would the temperatures be at mach 8 at 90,000 feet? You got a calc program somewhere?

The SR-71 recorded surface temperatures of 312 C flying at around mach 3.2 (maybe a little faster) at 85,000 feet. Since, in the troposphere, mach 6 speeds get about 1537 C, and mach 8 3100 C (nearly double in 2 mach), and assuming heat goes up at the same rate per mach, I assume mach 3.2 could get around 600-500 C in the TS. It seems then that it halves itself in that height. However, 1550 C is still extremely hot, being 2,822 F

Solution:

It has a 1"-thick heat-resistant ceramic tiles coating the hottest points of the plane (the nose, the intakes, the edges of the wings and fins)

Actualy, I was thinking that you would fly to the very edge of the atmosphere, using special fuels that help cool to get you there, and special engines to use that fuel. Those tiles might work, however.
05-04-2004, 02:26
That's what the current RL concept uses... I just wanted to be original... plus, that whole up-and-down flight path doesn't look too comfortable :P
