Terrorist Attack in Ancient Terra!

Ancient and Holy Terra

11:45 PM, Friday
Tellerus, Capital City of Ancient Terra

It was a small thing, as far as bombs went. Roughly the size of an arm, inconspiculously hidden in one of the planters that lined Lorardian Street, one of the main roads through Tellerus' bustling nightlife district. It was a simple bomb, too, built from common, household items. But that was irrelevant; damage wasn't the primary objective of this attack.

The street was beginning to get busy now, as the clubs opened up. People walked by: laughing with their friends, drinking...the usual. Nobody spared a second glance at the planter box.

That was all about to change, when the clock struck 12:00.

There were police about, of course, but they never thought to check for bombs. At most, they would walk around, clearing beggars off of the streets, checking IDs, and assisting drunks into taxi cabs. After all, who would bother bombing a country like Ancient Terra?

Terra had no enemies, little political dissent, and was an active contributor to foreign aide. Time and again, it had stepped in and averted potentially deadly conflicts. There had once been a terrorist group in Ancient Terra, The Core, but they had been wiped out years ago by a massive, multinational coalition that had hunted the small group of radicals in the rainforest. They were gone, right?

Wrong.

The bomb exploded, 4 seconds early. That was okay; the screaming didn't start until the clock struck twelve. Smoke, dust, and debris filled the air. The wall next to the planter had blown inwards, showering early bar patrons with chunks of rock the size of fists. Bodies were strewn about, unmoving. Screams of pain and agony spilt into the air. People were knocked down as the overpressure reached them, like a wave.

From far away, sirens could be heard, as late-shift emergency personnel began responding to the crisis. Three ambulances pulled up, flanked by several police cars. An armored car arrived, and disgorged Special Police Forces, who fanned out carrying submachine guns. So busy were they seperating the dead from the wounded that nobody thought to check for other bombs. It was a mistake.

From the other side of the road, the second bomb went off, this one much larger than the first. Two of the ambulances exploded, instantly turned into giant torches by the powerful explosive. The third ambulance caught on fire, and the wounded lying next to it could only wait until the flames reached the gas tank, touching off a third explosion. The armored car fell over, crushing an unlucky police officer. What had once been a place of fun and laughter had turned into a living hell. The flames from burning buildings and cars turned the smoky sky a dull read.

By the time the fire engines arrived, it was over. Lorardian Street was a total loss, broken bodies lying everywhere. Some were so burnt it was inconcievable that they had ever been human. A harried-looking aide immediately awoke Emperor El' Jonson. He had his Cabinet assembled in his office 15 minutes later, some of them still dressed for bed.

And somewhere in Ancient Terra, as news of the successful attack reached him, Galen Selore, the leader of The Core...laughed.

(ooc: The Core is an anti-government organization, who was thought to have been wiped out 12 years ago in a previous RP who hunted its forces in the jungle. Well, now they're back...and Terra is going on another crusade to hunt them down. Feel free to post your response to the bombing, it probably will have reached the news reports by now. )

We have low-tech commando forces trained for defense against insurgents. Our interior terrain is rugged and heavily forested, this is the setting in which we are most effective.

Although not reliant upon technologies, these forces are trained in several martial arts, survival skills, and in the use of yogic control of their internal organs (respiration, heart function, kidneys etc).

If we can be of assistance, let us know.
