(OOC: We launched the satellites some time ago in this thread http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=135978&highlight= ...and since no one bothered to examine this more closely, any noises made about shooting them down during the boost phase will be ignored.)

In the secure underground bunker that houses Axis Nova's military command, General Hammond talks with a technician as men move in a hurried faction around them.

"Lately we've been getting more and more terrorists trying to set up camps in the Badlands... there are so many that even the military can't keep up. And getting our air forces in there is problematic at best, what with the high winds and all."

General Hammond turns and points to one of the big screens in the room, showing an aerial view of a large camp, obviously very well established and with many vehicles and troops in it.

"Now, in the heart of the Badlands, we've discovered the source of our problem: The Scythe of the Light has their primary base camp, set up in our own backyard!"

The bearded officer clenches his fists.

"This discovery has of course been noted by a number of other countries with satellite networks. Of course, they didn't bother to let US know, and the result: Not only are we the laughingstock of the globe, but there are a few idiots who have us marked as a nation that supports terrorists!"

The general turns and points to another screen, this one showing a large satellite. He smiles ferally.

"The Premier was enraged at this news. He told us to wipe out this camp once and for all, and demonstrate that we are not to be trifled with."

Across the room, a lieutenant waves to get the General's attention.

"Sir! All systems are go! All of the satellites are in their proper orbits... Satellite 9 can be brought to bear on the target, the rest are unable to bear but can provide charging support. We could also charge and fire the satellite with the onboard reactor, but that would take longer."

"Excellent. Blow the camoflauge shrouds, then."

The satellite on the screen suddenly changes shape as several explosive bolts detonate and fling cleverly designed plastic fakes away. The satellite begins to unfold like a complex, deadly insect, and when it finishes, it bears little resemblance to it's previous form. Around the globe, similar events happen on a couple of dozen other satellites.

"Camoflauge shroud removed. All systems are go."

"Beginning charging sequence!"

#Gundam X - Satellite Cannon

Three of the satellites rotate the dish at the top and begin sending a microwave beam of power from their onboard capacitors, beaming it to a fourth satellite, which begins to glow and fluoresce as stray microwaves not energizing the recievers play off it's metal. The microwave reciever arms glow brightly as they greedily suck in the incoming microwaves and convert them to electrical energy.

"Capacitors fully charged, sir!"

"Satellite is locked on to target."

General Hammond clasps his hands behind his back and watches the screen.

"Excellent. Ion Control, wipe these scum off the map."

The officer in charge of the firing sequence flips back a plastic saftey cover, and hits a button, transmitting a signal to the satellite. A laser beam fires downwards from the satellite, ionizing the air in it's path. As the beam passes through the atmosphere, it attenuates, until it covers a circular area about 150 meters wide. In the terrorist camp, a man in a watch tower notices that the air seems to suddenly smell of ozone, and is wavering strangely...

The satellite then releases a massive particle beam, which follows the path of the ionized air and slams into the ground at the terrorist base like a gigantic lightning bolt. A millisecond later, the energy released by the beam converts most of the camp to gas and plasma. The resulting explosion kills every living thing within a 450 meter radius and completely razes all structures. A deep crater is left, and the ground is turned to molten glass, which slowly cools...

(Some OOC notes: The satellites can fire using energy from their onboard reactors, but to fire a full power blast requires a power relay from other satellites. This was about a 60% power blast, as it was pretty much just a test. The weapon itself works by using a laser to ionize the atmosphere between it and the target, then firing a massive particle beam that follows the path down to the surface... and then, kaboom. The satellites can fire low-power beams fairly rapidly... ie, for engaging incoming attacks and such. Said low-power beams cannot, of course, penetrate the atmosphere.)
