Passing The Torch: The Rise of Emperor Baiziel

Avadria

A solemn looking newscaster shuffled his papers before addressing the viewers. “I have just been informed that the Great Emperor August Baiziel the Second was assassinated moments ago…”

The front page of every newspaper in the country proudly bared the image of the late Emperor, but also displayed the frightening photos of his overturned, wrecked automobile, which had previously contained the Emperor and his wife. Now they both lay ivory coffins each had an elaborate Avadrian flag draped over it. They were paraded from the Palace to the Royal Mausoleum by somber looking Guardsmen. Outside there were hundreds of soldiers in dress uniform standing at perfect attention. Each of them wore the same grave expression seen on the faces every Avadrian citizen. The caskets were laid in front of a dais, in which the new Emperor walked up to. He wore a simple black suit and an expression of sadness over the loss of his father. The new Emperor swallowed hard before finally speaking.

“It pains me to stand up here before my late father” He said into the microphone, before taking a deep breath. “… Never did I think I would ascend to the throne due to the assassination of my father.” He took another breath. “But I vow on this day to surpass my late father’s leadership and take our wondrous nation to levels of prosperity and power never before witnessed by its citizens. I will lead us into a future in which there is room for only our people and our ideals! I will lead us into a future in which we will have control over our destiny! I will lead us into a future in which our country will be heard around the world and remembered by generations of the foreign populace!” The new Emperor shouted, pounding his fist against the dais. The sound of flashbulbs popping broke the silence. He took another breath “My father and my mother will always be remembered as people who had lived for the nation and died for the nation. There sacrifice will only lead to a brighter future for our nation!” More flashbulbs popped as cameramen took his picture. His eyes scanned the crowd of officials, soldiers, and media personnel who all saluted dutifully, giving shouts of “Areif Avadira! Areif Avadria!”

“That was the newly appointed Emperor Alexander Ramius Baiziel the First, giving his speech at the funeral of the late Emperor August Baiziel and his wife Alexia.” The news anchor said, still with the same expression he and millions had worn a day ago. “This is Alva Lensen for ARBC News, Port August.”
