The Orca Class Attack Submarine is among the more conventional designs among the subfighters and carriers of the UCSNE Navy. But it's hardly convetional.

Superior Propulsion, Silent warrior
Four massive Ionic/MHD drives propel the vessel up to 45 knots, with dual propellers as a backup. The Ionic/MHD system uses postive and negative charges to draw water through, and then push it out, similar to the MHD system that does it with electromagnetics. The Ionic system leaves about as much sound as normal seawater does, so it isn't an obvious "Black Hole" of no sound like other MHD systems are. The system is powered by dual J/C General Atomics Pebblebed Nuclear Rectors. The Pebblebed system is a nuclear reactor that runs off a pebble with "onion" like layers of graphite and silicon wrapped around a fleck of uranium. Due to the layering, the uranium itself will never reach "melting temperature", and therefore, run-away reactions. Helium coolant eliminates radiation leakage because helium can't transmit radiation. The silence of the sub is further enhanced by VibroGel anti-sound and vibration compounds carried onboard the sub. The sticky liquids are secreted over the hull of the sub, and then an electric current is run through them to turn them into a thick gel that absorbs vibrations.

Deep Killer
The old saying of "Run Silent, Run Deep", is often used to describe modern submarine warfare. We've already explained how the Orca runs silent. It also runs deeper. The age of using steel hulled submarines is over for New Empire. While steel is still an important building material, the outer layer of the sub is actually ArmorCeramic and Concrete, allowing it to travel much deeper than most submarines... And by deeper, we mean a crush depth of 5000 meters. Depths once only possible for research subs are now availible for combat ones, making the Orca a phantom of the seas.

Orca Teeth
For so long, the primary defense of the submarine against torpedo has been noisemakers and the like, and that has left something to be desired. In an age in which torpedo can surpass the speed of sound, a new way of stopping incoming fire was needed. It was determined the best way to stop these supersonic weapons was to kill them, and thus the Orca has dual 20mm Ball turrets with the ASHUM system. ASHUM uses LIDAR guided 20mm cannon to fire supercavitating rounds at torpedo, or anything else in the water. The turrets are mounted ventral and dorsal along the sub. But the Orca has more than just the capability to defend itself. 14 torpedo tubes, 8 forward and 6 rear, in 660mm allow the Orca to fire a range of American and UCSNE torpedo, including the UCSNE SeaSLAM. They use RAILS autoloaders with special coverings and fittings to make them quieter as they load their weapons. A 22 tube vertical launch system allows the Orca to fire anything a surface ship could, even air to air missiles! Finally, the Orca has room for 2 Unmanned Submersible Vehicles.

Mako

The Mako class is a much more unique sub, the only one to have it's armarment built around guns, or more specifically, one large one. Even the new superbattleships will fall prey to the advanced weapons of the Mako.

Speak Softly...
Four massive Ionic/MHD drives propel the vessel up to 41 knots, with four propellers as a backup. The system is powered by three J/C General Atomics Pebblebed Nuclear Rectors. In order to bring it's forward armarment to bear, rotating waterjet propulsor pods called azipods allow the submarine to turn faster and let it's weapon be heard.

Swim deep...
While steel is still an important building material, the outer layer of the sub is actually ArmorCeramic and Concrete, allowing it to travel much deeper than most submarines... And by deeper, we mean a crush depth of 5000 meters. Depths once only possible for research subs are now availible for combat ones, making the Mako capable of deep depths.

... And carry a BIG stick.
The superbattleships that sail the oceans of today are seen as invincible. Huge armor means no gun and torpedo can touch them, and advanced missile defense systems mean no missile can reach them. So, rather than resorting to multikiloton tactical nuclear weapons, the designers of the Mako went in a different direction. Inspired by the "Satellite Guns" the NEAF uses to put satellites in orbit, or destroy them the Mako's battleship sinker is a 540mm weapon mounted along the spine of the ship. The huge projectiles are designed to supercavitate, and can fire from 20 miles out. The projectile can travel anywhere between Mach 1 and 10, depending on the power routed from the Pebblebeds. Often, one of the three reactors is devoted to just powering the gigantic railgun. And like the Orca, the Mako uses the 8 forward, 6 rear 660mm torpedo tubes. It also has the same layout for it's ASHUM guns, but it has two more facing rearward. The Mako's other unique weapons system is it's 30 tube missile racks. The racks can fire a variety of missiles around the size of the AIM-54 Pheonix, but are designed as supercavitating torpedo. Like all supercavitating torpedo in the UCSNE, they are EMS/LIDAR guided, and use thrust vectoring to turn. These torpedo, however, also have manuvering canards that allow them to engage subfighters, a weapon few nations use, but some of New Empire's enemies research. With these weapons, the Mako can engage highly manuverable craft from any direction, as well as larger submarines.

Anybody else have anything to say?

This is very nice, though it does seem to be a bit....cheap for a very advanced submarine. I would check the cost, but I might be wrong :?

Looks very nice though, and that gun would be useful for sneaky NGS usage as well. Well, Im currently having a review of my navy forces, and I might even have an order. Nice work all the same, and where did you get the pictures?

And Concrete? You are aware of the materials tensile strength, arent you, or is there some sort of engineering here that I havent come across before. Intresting?

Costs for the Orca should be accurate, I'm not sure about the Mako, it ain't for sale, but maybe I can make an exception for OMP members.

The gun was a strange b@stard idea after looking at my anti-spacecraft weapons. What's NGS, BTW?

Pictures were made by me in DoGA L3.

There's an article I talked over with Doujin on Concrete submarines, it has a lower crush depth than steel.
