IC (for spy satellite-equipped people):
As always, the 1st, 2nd, and 5th Army Corps had always been deployed along the border with "autonomous" Kurdistan. The divisions there were staffed at about 60-70% as usual, but now those divisions were at (more or less) full strength, and there had been some odd movements of units along the border. Though there were moments, the overwhelming majority of units remained in their regular defensive position, although there was also indications of the creation of forward supply depots and other such things.
IC (for everyone):
Out of the blue, four days ago, orders were sent out by the Iraqi Ministry of Defense cancelling all leaves and ordering everyone to their units. There was also a slightly larger presence of Fedayeen Saddam and Republican Guard units throughout Baghdad and the surrounding regions. A curfew had also been placed upon all residents of Baghdad and the cities of Kirkuk, Mosul, and the region surrounding them. By 9:00PM everyone had to be off the streets and could go out again at 7:30 AM the next day.
This could be indicative of two things; either there was a coup attempt somewhere in the north or the government of Iraq was preparing something in the north. The curfew and the cancelling of all leaves had happened in times of great tensions with outside powers and during 1995 when there were reports of a small group of officers who attempted a coup.
