Please check it out, and feel free to make suggestions for any future products.

(OOC NOTE: I will probably never design or sell any actual weapons. However, I am willing to purchase production rights for Aircraft and Naval units. Please post to discuss a possible exchange.)

(OOC: Seeing as just about every other nation produces weapons, that market is a little crowded. Besides, I would like to see my nation as a respectable scientific and industrial power rather than one with a lot of shiny new guns.)
Kilean
28-03-2004, 02:39
This is very, very interesting. Kilean wonders if Schultaria has any facilities or technologies that could allow for the creation and casting of very high-grade steel in large quantities?

In addition, machine-tools and CAD/CAM equipment could be very useful.

All that aside, Kilean is prepared to invest heavily in Schultaria Prime to encourage this sort of industrial development. For starters, we would love to purchase equipment and skilled labor for an aluminium plant.
Schultaria Prime
28-03-2004, 07:06
The United Socialist States of Schultaria Prime thanks the Nation of Kilean for their interest in Designwerks.

-At present, our nation has planned to offer steel refining plants within 3 - 5 NS years and bulk high-grade steel before then.

-You have made an interesting point with the distribution of Machine tools. Our researchers are currently working on multi-role manufacturing plants designed to operate for a variety of industries with almost any material that can be cast and milled.

-As for the aluminium plant, we are willing to begin construction and training for as many plants as your nation requires. Please allow 1 NS year per plant and adequate training.

All that needs to be asked is, how many plants will you require?
28-03-2004, 07:09

A very unique storefront. Not many nations focus on technological and industial storefronts. That said, the Commonwealth would like to purchase 4 Bulk Aluminium Refining Facilities for a total of $2 billion. Money wired on confirmation. Thank you.

A few ideas:
1. I think selling ethanol is a great idea, however, I believe much more people would be interested if you offer to build an ethanol production facility as you do the aluminium facilities. Nations want to become self-reliant, you could cash in by selling an efficient way of production.
2. A high-grade titanium alloy and/or a production facility would be helpful. Or else an lightweight alloy useful in production of aircraft.
3. Offering pieces of machinery as well as entire facilities would appeal to countries with a limited budget or those who prefer to build their own factories.
4. More selection! A great start, but to really attract buyers, a great selection is needed.

OK I've finished rambling. If there are financial difficulities, please feel free to T-gram me. Me and my allies would gladly fund Schultaria Prime's research and and invest in production. I think this is a great idea. Keep up the good work!

The Nation of Schultaria Prime thanks the Nation of Granzi for their purchase. Please allow one NS year per facility, and we hope to do future business with you.

-As our nation becomes increasingly self-reliant, we will continue to sell ever more advanced industrial facilities. The current demand for various lightweight alloys in our nation far exceeds what we can currently produce, although we have now placed commerical steel exports and facilities up for sale effective immediately.

Expect major advances to come in following updates.

Schultaria Prime
31-03-2004, 01:51
The Nation of Schultaria Prime thanks you for your generous purchase. As a sign of customer loyalty, we are refunding an additional 500 million to make the discount an even 10 percent. Please allow 1 NS year per 2 Steel Facilities.

As for the environmental impact of our factories: We attempt to make these factories as versatile as possible with any energy source and any grade of raw materials. The impact these plants have on the environment are minimal on their own; however, the sources of power that keep the plants in operation are the primary environmental culprits. As long as the energy sources that are used are environmentally friendly, there should little outward impact on the total environment.

-As an incentive program, Designwerks might introduce a discount system in comming updates.

The Nation of Schultaria Prime has made preparations to construct an embassy in Schultaria Prime and a Consulate Building in Edgen for the nation of Granzi.

-The prospect of purchasing the rights to an aircraft carrier is appealing, however the entireity of our air force is little more than two strike forces of F 15 Strike Eagle aircraft; also, we have yet to find an aircraft suitable in multiple roles to outfit our Airforce. However, we will be interested in any new surface or submersible craft as they become available. You may use Schultarian waters in the protected harbors surrounding Kerga-Navem as a testing ground if required.

We accept your generous terms but have a few questions:

1. Will you be able to sell vessels of these designs after the 15 year period. The Commonwealth is not sure in "the receiving nation (Schultaria Prime) shall not produce any arms listed within this treaty for public sale, nor shall the two trading nations (Granzi and Schultaria Prime) commit any armed hostilities for a duration no less than 15 years." Schultaria Prime is refering to armed hostilities or public sale.

2. Could you explain clause number 5?

3. Some Misspellings :) :
Roydia Battleship
Triara Cruiser
Grevant Frigate
* There are numerous references to Nimzonia.*

Once this is cleared up, we will wire the rights to you.
Thank you for your business.

Prime Minister Bolash
Schultaria Prime

1. This is designed to act as a measure of safety for the producer: (OOC Would you want a nation declaring war on you with the ability to produce your weapons?) We will NEVER sell these arms. They are intended for the sole right of Schultaria Prime and it's allies.

2. This is designed in cases where the costs of the weapons rights far exceed our purchasing power, or where we have no speciality in producing said weapons. The nation of Schultaria Prime has absolutely NO defensive industry outside of foreign arms contracts, so we require the nations of whom we purchase arms technology to aid us in the retooling of our industry. Generally this includes oversight of our manufacturing processes, production of prototypes, etc. While this is occuring, the treaty is still active and renewed. Once we have concluded our arrangement, Schultaria Prime will follow the last sentence in Section 4c. - the 15 year armistice will begin one year after the provisions are concluded.

3. (OOC: That is the trouble with copying and pasting. It is also obscenely late now and I always wonder why I stay up so late)
Granzi
02-04-2004, 07:41
This is acceptable. We would be more than willing to help retool your industry to accommodate these ships. May these vessels serve your nation well in war and in peace. Thank you again.

Schultaria Prime
02-04-2004, 16:35
-Enripta: If you are referring to the selection of Supercomputers in Schultaria Prime, a cluster is generally as many units as you would want to purchase. However, for ease of networking and managing, a cluster ususually represents 1 to 8 individual Supercomputers in a newtorked interface. We hope that this clears up any confusion you might have.

We would like to order 10 clusters (consisting of 35 individual units) of HPCs worth $59,500,000. We would also like you to build a supercomputer research center. We believe that's a 20% additional charge so the total price would be:$71,400,000 Money will be wired after confirmation of order.

03-04-2004, 01:50
The Commonwealth is interested in purchasing some SAMMUTUS supercomputers, however we are not sure how many we need. Currently, there are 4 Bulk Aluminum Refining Facilities and 8 Bulk Steel Manufacturing Plants in our nation. If each factory recieves 1, we will need 12 total. Is this enough? That comes out to $2,400,000. Minus the 15% discount and total due is $2,040,000. Money wired on confirmation.

We also ask that Schultaria Prime contractors modify the cluster to suit our requirements. For that we will pay an extra $100,000 to bring the final price to $2,140,000. Thank you.

We thank you for your inquiry into the procurement of Tungsten (Wolfram) and Chromium.

As of now, most of our state industries use Tungsten in such small quantities that producing a surplus of at least 85 to 100 Metric tons annually should not pose a problem. However, due to the very properties that make Tungsten such a perfect commodity the price will undoubetly be extremely pricey. Our best estimates rance from a conservative $8,000 per ton to an excess of $25,000, but we will give you the benefit of the doubt at approximately $12,500 if you so choose.

For Chromium, our industry is better tooled to help you purchase this metal in greater quantities. Since Chromium is a key element in a variety of chemical solvents used by state and private industry, a surplus of about 500 tons annually is not out of the question. Like Tungsten, the manufacture of Chromium (since it is also on a small scale) will inflate the price to approximately $7,000 dollars per ton until we can produce this metal in greater quantities.

We hope that we can come to an amicable agreement on this soon,
-Central Director Elliot Schultz

As a reward, Designwerks grants you full access to the designs at NO COST; we only hope that your success with these engines will help to further propogate the useage of Ethanol amongst other nations who face similar energy shortages.

-For sake of interest, the following prices were considered to be fair offers by Designwerks.

Dnervoc: $12,000 * 100,000 units = $1,200,000,000
Talmudd: $850,000 * 10,000 units = $8,500,000,000

So that we are not accused of Godmodding I'd like to make it as realistic as possible. I'm leading this porduction initiative in the region and would like to know what sort of production facilities would we need to make our own tanks, rifles, planes, ships, etc. Chances are we'd buy them from you since you're the only dealer around. What should we purchase to get our production capabilites up to speed? I'd be happy to answer any questions you would have aboput our region, and I more than appreciate any help you could give us. :D

We are thankful that you have decided to take this step twoards military and economic independence, and we will do our best to assist you in any way possible.

One facility of each type is more than able to produce a substantial military surplus for the production of military wares in a small nation.

-Our steel facilities are top of the line, and are quite capable of producing enough metal to outfit and supply two armored divisions, 5 light infantry divisions, and three destroyers per year with enough surplus to provide building materials for a large city of over 125,000.
(An Essential Building Material for: Engines, Tank Armor, Rifle Recievers, Ship Armor, and all of the little things like automobiles, plows, fuse casings, concrete reinforcement, etc.)
Recommended purchase: 2 Bulk Steel Manufacturing Plants

-Our aluminium facilities, coupled with the titanium manufacturing plants, will provide significant aid to serve a growing nation's aircraft industry. Enough of these metals are produced to generate an output of roughly 250 to 500 fighter craft, 50 to 100 long range bombers, or 15 to 25 long range missiles.
(Essential Building Materials for: Aircraft, Spacecraft, and various lightweight reinforcement construction materials.)
Recommended purchase: 1 Bulk Aluminium Refining Facility and 1 Titanium Manufacturing Plant

For your nation, chances are very likely that in the near future you will need to be able to communicate and store essential weapons research and test results. An affordible option would be our HPC supercomputer line; it possesses the power necesary to simulate the physical effects of most any form of non-nuclear munition with a minimum of cost. These facilities have helped Designwerks to design virtually every system and manufacturing plant in our storefront (including all of our computers), so their versatility in engineering problems is not a question.
Recommended Purchase: 10 to 15 HPC Supercomputers

Also, as an added boost to your manufacturing capabilities, may we suggest the SAMMUTUS Industrial Computer? For a twentith of the cost of an Abrhams Main Battle Tank, each computer can generate a manuacturing boost in each of your production facilities by as much as a 25% increase per unit.

From all of us in Designwerks, thank you for your interest.

To the nation of Granzi

You pose a good question. Our best answer is to pose a few questions to you concerning your particular energy needs. Given that each nation's energy situation and consumption is unique, we want to have your feedback in order to determine the best value. Extensive answers are not required, but they will be helpful in tailoring to best suit your needs.

1. How will these reactors be utilized? (Civilian Power Plant / Military Nuclear Reactor / Weapons Materials Production Facility / Other)

2. In regards to the answer from number 1, what types of building materials and engineering expertise will you require? Will certain materials have to be imported from Schultaria Prime?

3. (If for Civilian Usage): What is the projected size of population you wish to be directly powered by the Haarvekord Reactors? (This will help us to determine if a single or multi core nuclear plant will be necessary)

Thank you for your time with these responses, we hope to hear from you soon dear allies,
-Central Director Elliot Schultz
Granzi
03-05-2004, 19:20
In response to your questions:

1. All three power plants will be for civilian use. They will, specifically, be used to pwer our three largest cities: Granzi City, Hestoa, and Boralis. We also request that they be built a distance away to prevent any catastrophic loss of life due to an accident or attack (whatever the distance is).

2. We will be able to provide all the raw materials used in construction, all building supplies will be made available. However, we do need some engineering expertise on the site. We also require a training program, perhaps a year after construction is complete, to educate our personnel.

3. Granzi City has 26 Million people, Hestoa has 18 Million, and Boralis has 15 Million. If more nuclear plants are needed, we will authorize construction of at least 1 more at each city (2 per city max, if this does not supply all the power needed, we will use other power sources.)

Thank you,
Danial Gerold
Minister of Energy
Schultaria Prime
03-05-2004, 20:40
Thank you, your questions have been most useful in determining the course of action we should take. Our engineers have made the following conclusions.

In order to best suit your needs, we have determined that the best course of action would be to implement three multi-core nuclear facilities. All of these facilities should be placed approximately 25 to 30 kilometers from each city center to best minimize any dangerous effects should a catastrophic accident propagate.

The facilities at Granzi City and Hestoa would posses 3 Haarvekord Nuclear Reactors while the facility at Boralis would contain only 2. Nonetheless, in order to anticipate for future needs, each facility would be capable of containing and managing 5 reactors of the same dimensions as the Mark VII. All facilities will be made with the utmost care and forethought and your engineers shall be trained at the University of Schultaria Prime - Schultaria Prime in the peculiarities of the Haarvekord design.

Since local materials and construction will be utilized, those costs will not be factored into the additional cost of the facilities. However, due to certain safety concerns with nuclear fission, contractors from Designwerks will specifically construct the protective core assemblies to your specifications. The additional cost per core will be approximately $475,000,000 in order to build the facility.

The final totals for each facility:

Granzi City: 3 Reactors (2 Vacant): 1.575 Megawatts | $2,850,000,000
Hestoa: 3 Reactors (2 Vacant): 1.575 Megawatts | $2,850,000,000
Boralis: 2 Reactors (3 Vacant): 1.05 Megawatts | $950,000,000

Total Cost: $16,650,000,000 [$6,650,000,000 (Facility Costs) / $10,000,000,000 (Reactor Costs)] With your 25% Discount: ($12,487,500,000)

If you find these numbers to be unacceptable in any fashion, please contact us. We are very open to negotiation on these terms,

OOC: There is almost nothing you can do about increasing your sales, except for developing and selling weapons technology. Most of the people in NS aren't interested in civilian technology, because most RPs are still combat/war RPs and of what use is civilian technology then?

However, you don't actually have to sell weapons, because there are enough alternatives: What about electronic warfare, psycological warfare and logistics? I'd be happy to help you. We could do some joint ventures, if you'd like.

Schultaria Prime,

I believe products such as prefab research facilities would prove quite profitable.(individual facilities based on a particular science, i.e., astronomy would incur a telescope laboratory). With all the push for technological advances, this could prove quite useful if nations interested in technology were linked together through standardized, scientific laboratories.

This was a suggestion based on your desire to know what products you should offer.

In order to insure the fastest and most effective delivery possible, Designwerks suggests that the Proketsan launch vehicle would probably be the best option for your nation. With the lift and payload capacity to hold three Kamor-IBBEM defense satellites and a high reliability rate to match, these rockets are ideal for your needs.

Each launch vehicle takes exactly 6 NS months to construct, assemble, and affix the payload components. During this time, we would consult with your nation as to the positions of these craft in orbit in order to insure maximum interception capability. Both launch vehicles would be deployed from the Eldaimovey Space Research Center under the careful operation of both Designwerks and the Schultarian Space Administration until they have reached ideal orbit. At that time all autonomy on the satellites would be transferred over to your authority.

Anticipated Vehicle Requirements: 2 Proketsan Launch Vehicles
Anticipated Construction and Consultation Time: 1 NS Year

Subtotal Cost: (Payload) $909,000,000 | (Launch Vehicle): $1,300,000,000

Schultaria Prime,

We are delighted to see such a wonderful product and service available! We are of course referring to your new Ilemor Orbital Observatory Platform. However, we have a couple questions that we'd like to 'run by' you first before we committ to a purchase - and to entering the 'celestial.'

1) How is contact maintained with the Platforms? Would we need to create and build our own LEO monitoring station on the ground? Something we would not 'mind' accomplishing, but something we'd need to factor in.

2) How would the contraptions be placed into LEO (assuming that is their orbital plane) and how much would this cost, additional to the purchasing cost?

3) What is the longevity and annual cost of the platforms? (Tarqysian Economics usually dictates taken a tenth of the purchasing costs and then calculating that as the effective operating cost. We would use this to calculate the cost of running the new personnel, facilities and technologies needed to maintain and utilize this wonderful product and the accompanying ground station - should its need be. Please comment if you can.)

4) (OOC: assuming that our nation's both live on the same 'earth') Would each satellite you build be given a certain orbital path/synchronous location in the heavens? We ask this because we would feel safer knowing that our satellite(s) are N close to other satellites. (OOC: Plus, I think it would be more fun to RP a certain location. However, I am not sure how feasible this is and it wouldn't hamper me 'dreams.' :) )

I apologize for the myriad of questions. Please entertain these at your earliest conveinence.

All of us in Designwerks are glad that your nation has taken an interest in the exploration of the universe around us. We hope that these products will prove invaluable research tools to your scientists. To allay any doubts or questions, we will do our best to answer your inquiries.

1. There are two ways in which a sustained contact with a satellite can be maintained. Our third option (Satellite Relay Network) is logistically not feasible for the time being.

+Option one (Global Relay Station): A series of relay stations positioned every 20 degrees to maintain a real time contact with LEO satellite.

Positive side: Allows for consistent contact with the object, immediate diagnosis of any problems in real time.
Negative side: Great deal of monetary finances and stable international diplomatic relationships to maintain the listening outposts.

+Option two (Singular Relay Station): A matrix of radio outposts positioned within the boundaries of your nation.

Positive Side: Easier to maintain due to more available manpower, less transmitters also means less maintenance costs.
Negative Side: The amounts of orbital paths are increasingly limited by the number of trajectories that can pass through your nation without interference. Given the size of your network, you'll only be in contact from 6 to 20 minutes each orbit.

2. Designwerks currently offers two rockets that are designed for every payload developed by our company. It is all dependent on where you would like your satellite positioned in orbit. If a low orbit is preferred, then the Arketsan Mark III rocket would be your best option; however, if you desire to place this object in geostationary orbit then we would suggest our Proketsan launch series.

With all of our rockets, the actual cost of the rocket is included in the base price. However, the costs for fuel, guidance, and mission operations to deploy the satellite are included in the "Cost Per Kilogram" portion of the fee. If you require help in determining the costs involved, please feel free to contact us.

3. Provided that the satellite does not experience catastrophic failure due to debris, electromagnetic interference, communication failure, or otherwise, the Ilemor is designed for nations who prefer a stable, long-lasting product. Using the same technology that powered the Voyager probes to fame, these satellites are designed to operate at optimal power consumption for approximately 20 years. Barring any costs for in-orbit repairs, the annual costs for satellite maintenance should be roughly within the 10% range you desire.

4. OOC: It'll all depend on what you consider your ideal orbital paths. All of these launches are roughly near the equator, so the orbits do converge a bit. However, since Schultarian precedents dictate that maximum safety is insured all craft will have their own specific flight path. If you require specific information with each satellite, I'll try to do my best by giving you the most accurate information possible.

Thank you for your consideration with our products, we hope to hear from you soon,

Schultaria Prime,

You have majestically answered many of our questions. Perhaps you can entertain a few more? Also, we would like to share some astronomical data and information that our astronomers and physicists have determined - (OOC:...said the little, infantile nation ;) ). They might be helpful in regards to your company.

1) If we go with the Single Relay Station, we would be fine. You mention only maintaining contact for 6-20 minutes. However, this would be 6-20 minutes per orbit. It takes LEOs 90 minutes to orbit completely around the earth. Our records show that a distant country called the United States of America has an orbital vehicle - the space shuttle - which orbits the earth once every 90 minutes, because of the rate of speed it is traveling at to maintain orbit (17,000+mph). Therefore, we would have contact of at least 6 minutes for at least 17 times during one day (24 hours). [(24*60)/(6-90)] This would be perfect to monitor the heavens and we would only need the Single Relay Station. Our scientists believe this data negates the Global Relay Station option. Furthermore, we realize the ridiculousness of our desire to view the heavens every second - it rarely changes in thousands of years let alone hours. Our technicians would work with our scientists and they'd ready the next coordinates prior to the satellite entering the 'contact region.'

2) Does the Ilemor (either with or without the "Sharpsight" Package) come capable of taking photographs of what it 'sees?' We would like to post our findings for all to see and photography is a fantastic medium in Tarqys.

3) You mention a life of 20 years. Our nation has been around for about 40 years. Voyager is over 26 years old. This fall, it will be 27. However, comparing a probe, whose electrical systems have been severely reduced (since completing its primary mission) to transmitting minute radio signals at very large intervals, to a daily functioning, high-use satellite is a bit of a stretch, and our nation shouldn't compare the two. However, we would like to know if there is anyway we can maintain the longevity indefinitely, utilizing orbital repairs and orbital 'battery' changes. If it is possible, we would contract your space agency to make the necessary repairs/change every 20 years. (OOC: 20 years comes in 20 days and this is quite an expensive contraption to be buying every 20 days, not to mention a lengthy process, too. lol)

4) You mention LEO and Geostationary Orbit. What, if any, are the benefits? Would a GO provide better clarity and/or longevity?

Just a final, unimportant question: Can the satellites be placed in GEO (Geosynchronous Earth Orbit)? If so, your option #2 (Single Relay Station) would be ideal. It would maintain constant communication (because of synchronicity) and because the earth rotates every 24 hours, we would be able to monitor different regions of the celestial heavens. However, our scope would be severly limited because of our nations longitudal location: we would never 'see' the southern heavens well until Earth precesses a bit or changes it's tilt (both of which take tens of thousands of years - the latter if ever :) ).

Also, in regards to having a specific orbital path, though very good to know, it is obviously not necessary.

OOC: Sorry about that. That's probably too much work to be worried about especially when there aren't as many nations such as mine interested in minute-as-hell details. Plus - to get accurate, realistic data - you'd have to go about asking all the other satellite manufacturers where THEIR satellites have been placed. Hmmm...sounds like there should be an Astronomical Regulatory Committee ;). I neglect to mention that your grasp on science is amazing. It's good to see that someone who 'knows their shit' is selling decent things.

Here is the total cost for our 'wishes':

1 - Ilemor Orbital Observatory Platform (200,000,000)
1 - "Sharpsight" Package (325,000,000)
1 - Single Relay Station and necessary technologies used therein (N) [Would you be able to supply the speficiations of such a station, with stress placed on how many persons it takes to effectively 'run?']
1 - Launch (139,380,000)+(160,000,000)
Total is $824,380,000+N

We will calculate upkeep costs from 10% of the total. The launch cost, though, will help keep this 'up.'

However, we wish for your response prior to sending payment.

(OOC Response to the questions presented by Tarqys)

1. In the vacuum of space, the risks of a satellite in orbit are enormous. The purpose of a global relay station is not for purposes of scientific observation, but to act as a security measure maintaining contact with the orbiting satellite as it passes through the heavens.

There are many variables involved in an orbital flight, and some of the most innocuous events can prove fatal to an orbiting station. If we are to examine the example of the United States of America, you would find that even it it's infancy they established a world wide array of observation posts throughout the world to insure that if an orbiting body faced trouble their problems could be diagnosed immediately. Even if a nation is quite expansive, there is still a significant portion of the world (and orbital time) when a satellite is not monitored and could come into irreparable harm.

2. The Ilemor satellite is designed to be a publicly available version of the Hubble for the NS world. It is more than capable of producing photographs of very outstanding quality. (After all, that is the whole nature of "Observational" astronomy")

3. In terms of Voyager, it is a testament to the longevity of the power source; considering the differences in technology and power consumption (the computing power of Voyager is roughly comparable to that of two or three calculator wristwatches) a lifetime of 20 years is not entirely out of the question. As for replacement of the RTG's, the procedure could be done with good precision as automated systems become ever more refined. (However, in 20 years this technology could become obsolete. After all, there are only a handful of orbiting satellites in the real world that have operational lifespan exceeding ten years, and most of them exceed the Ilemor's price tag)

4. A satellite in GO would provide easier, and far more stable, contact between your nation and the observational platform. However, its view of the sky would be limited by the location of its orbit while its LEO counterpart would be able to track portions of the sky not readily accessible by most conventional telescopes. It is entirely possible to pace this satellite in GO, however the only launch vehicle capable of such power would be our Proketsan series.

Also, thank you for keeping me on my toes. I try to keep my storefront as realistic and accurate as possible. My father told me: "You must be able to know the product in order to sell the product," and that is one of my core mottos when I make anything for Designwerks. (That's why I usually only introduce one item every 10 or so days.)

I'll wait to post a final invoice. As for the cost of the tracking station, this is entirely negotiable; since this is a product not offered by our company we will try to determine a mutually acceptable price.
Tarqys
18-05-2004, 06:27
Schultaria Prime,

You have been quite the patient seller with us. Thank you.

The only concerns we have now are the life-span and the price of a relay station. Perhaps every 20 years we could simply review the latest satellite and 'upgrade,' so to speak. As long as the price remained under $50 billion, we should be able to finance such updates.

Furthermore, is there anyway we can be assured that the 'dead' satellite will fall back to earth, thus ridding orbital space of a potential deadly object? We would not be particularly happy if our presence was actually polluting space. However, this might just be the simple reality of celestial exploration.

That's fantastic that visual records can be had from this satellite!

OOC: I really want to maintain reality and I foresee two problems: LEO means that I will stand a damn good risk of losing the satellite. GO would work, but then, realistically, If I wanted to RP photos, I;d need to research the location of my country will respect to the stars - talk about major RP! Sorry to try your patience, but if you could please advise on this issue.

IC:

In determining a price for the relay station, here are som examples of how much money we've spent on past buildings:

$36 billion on a new, five-runway international airport
$1 billion for a new museum (of which we have 11; we love our museums)
$1.6 billion for two Schultaria Prime Titanium Manufacturing Plants

Given this data we feel that a price of about $2.0 billion is adequate. Let us know if this fits your desire. We prefer to spend more than spend less. Also, let us talk construction so that we may build one - again, we Tarqysians love to visualize.

In order to keep costs down, the Schultarian Space Program has adopted a rather aggressive policy of standardization and hearty adoption of mass production techniques. By following these directives, every satellite produced for public sale was designed to be both upgradeable and modular; it is entirely feasible to upgrade these satellites once they reach the end of their expected life spans with little more than robotic intervention. And, because of the adaptability of modular satellite design, the costs to upgrade these satellites should be substantially lower than your anticipated 50 billion dollar price tag.

As for the cost of the relay station: Designwerks feels that a cost of 2 billion might be on the most liberal end of our projections with a project of this stature. At present we believe that an array of 40 telescopes, erected and linked throughout your country via private intranet, would more than provide your nation with ample coverage. Each radio receiver dish, approximately 40 meters in diameter and 70 meters high, would be placed in strategic locations where radio signals from local ground sources would be easily negated. We believe that an average cost of 35 million per receiver dish and 1 NS year per 15 receivers would be fairly reasonable, adjusting the price and time for terrain considerations whenever possible. In total, our rough total would be $1.4 billion and 3 NS years for the completed project.

The concerns of orbital debris are a paramount fixation with Designwerks; we do our best to insure that every satellite will wither fall out of orbit without intervention or possess enough thrust to insure a proper retrograde orbit. We also attempt to build in a safety gap with the emergency power supply in order to insure immediate disposal of the craft before it becomes derelict. Orbital pollution is a problem that can be easily reduced with proper management, and Designwerks is pleased to take steps to reduce dangerous foreign particles in orbit around Earth.

Thank you for your consideration in working with our company,
-Central Director Elliot Schultz

OOC: You wouldn't have to research what part of the sky your country is located; in all honesty most people (with the exception of a few astronomy buffs) wouldn't know the difference between a galaxy located in the northern hemisphere of Earth's sky and one in the southern hemisphere. After all, that is the fun of RP; it allows you to break the limits of total accuracy and gives you the freedom to explore and play around with "realistic" convention.

Also, with LEO: There were three problems that I could see arising from a single tracking station in LEO. While the problems are very scarce (> 1% in most cases) they do have a certain amount of danger. As I said before, the variables are complex in an ideal situation, let alone one where a satellite is threatened by a malfunction; however, they aren't something to be worried about.

Schultaria Prime,

Your nation has been gracious for its continued support. To end this debate - at least the debate on the 'purchasing' side of astronomy - we present you the following list of items of which the Directorate of Finance has approved:

1 - Ilemor Orbital Observatory Platform costing $200,000,000
1 - "Sharpsight" Package costing $325,000,000
1 - Schultarian Relay Station, 40 Radio Telescopes located at points strategic to the operation of the Ilemor Orbital Observatory Platorm and placed about our country; a project to be 3NS years (3RLdays) in the making. We wish this to be constructed first, then the launching of the satellite. This will cost $1,400,000,000
1 - Prokestan launch - with the Ilemor as payload to be placed in Geosynchronous orbit above or nation, thus equating less danger while providing less astronomical coverage. More is explained below. The total launch cost is derived as follows: $650,000,000 + 20,200*6,900 = $789,380,000

The Grand Total sums at $2,714,380,000. Payment has been wired.

We will be sending the longitudal/latitudal coordinates of our nation for correct/accurate placement of the Ilemor into orbit 'above us.' The Directorate of Urban Development will be sending geological survey data on the soil and construction feasibility of regions where the 40 Radio Telescopes are likely to be constructed. If transportation is desired, we can arrange an airborne transport - as we are an island nation - to Lantana. Travel within the country will be via rail for prospecting. Construction will be conducted at the mode of your descretion.

Though the length of time to achieve our answers and your generous ability to answer them was great, we are still whole-heartedly excited about what your impressive technology will mean to the people of Tarqys - and hopefully the world! We opted for a Geosynchronous orbit for three reasons: 1) safety, 2) practicality [no need for global relay stations, playing into the safety] 3) while we will lose astronomical coverage, we feel the benefits of simply viewing a sector of space far outweighs any risks of losing our ability to view any and all of the heavens. Therefore, we request the heavier rocket (dictated in the price) to place the Ilemor into Geosynchronous orbit.

As a final note, we understand you hold the rights therein to the name of the product. Could we, with your agreement, give our satellite a name of our own? If this is allowed, we would like to christen the satellite Kepler - for obvious reasons.

We thank you for your wonderful support in these times and we regret to have 'lost contact' a bit from out TAPRES talks. We hope the transmissions of the dialogues were obtained by your necessary departments/bureaus.

We may be out of line here, but perhaps our two nations could become 'closer' diplomatically speaking? Please, let the idea ponder in your head.

Sincere thanks,

Designwerks thanks you for your purchase, and we are confident that you will find that our satellite's production values are well worth the cost. You have given many of us in Schultaria Prime hope that there are nations in this world who still value the scientific process as a greater goal than military conquest.

Please, if you would like to see any additions or have any suggestions for our store; we are more than happy to oblige our customers. We always strive to meet the demands of our consumers.

Our contractors will arrive within the week to begin the necessary surveys and radio mapping of your nation. Provided that there are no unforeseen circumstances, the total time should remain on budget and well within the 3 year timeline. All of the radio observatories will be fully articulated in order to track an ever increasing amount of orbiting bodies; we hope that this meets with your approval.

Construction of the Ilemor satellite with the Sharpsight package will take approximately 18 months and the Proketsan 6 months, but since you stipulated for a delayed launch, we shall wait until the relay station is well past 80% completed. If you should ever need to replace or upgrade these items we will be more than happy to oblige. Also, since the satellite will be technically under your jurisdiction, it can be renamed to whatever designation you so desire.

Your Total Cost (With 10% discount): $2,442,942,000

Upon final analysis of your nation's past international record, Designwerks believes that distribution of the Schultarian Kamor-IBBEM defensive satellites would not be in the best interests of the international community at the present time. Though the government of Schultaria Prime and its subsidiaries has no quarrel with your nation and their respective conflicts, we believe that your nation has taken to posturing before diplomacy in many international conflicts. Perhaps in due time we shall sell you this technology, but Designwerks refuses that part of the order for the time being.

As for the Ethanol Distilleries: Designwerks thanks you for your purchase of this technology. We can only hope that this first initial purchase will help you to experience our kind of freedom in your energy economy. This technology has been used to wonderful effect in many other foreign nations with great success, and our pride is reflected in the quality of our products.

Please, if you would like to see any additions or have any suggestions for our store; we are more than happy to oblige our customers. We always strive to meet the demands of our consumers

Construction of the Ethanol Distilleries (Since our company assumes you will be purchasing ten units) shall be completed within 3 NS years of time. If you should ever need to replace or upgrade these items we will be more than happy to oblige.

OOC: What program did you use for the pictures on your website? In addition, our telecommunications grid we offer will be landbased (fiber optics,) not satellite-based. This provides a safe-alternative against EMP attacks.

IC: How would you feel about a group researchers from the Lindimese company Tropi Industries Inc. viewing the plans for the non-classified components of your IBBEM (sp?), such as the propulsion system and detection system, if they are not classified. This has nothing to do with the Lindimese government and is not related to the other deal we are discussing with you, as Tropi is not involved with anything we offer.

Designwerks would be more than willing to accept a research delegation from Tropi; the interests of making orbital flight a better and safer environment is always a good reason to share technology. Unfortunately, a terrible event has occurred in the Eldaimovey Advanced Research Labs where the predominant amount of our space research takes place. Nearly all of our experienced practical engineering and research employees in all of the space and computer sciences are feared dead at the current moment.

The official newscast of the event (Via HIFEX) is located at the following address: http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=147806

We will give you any information your company might require, and we can still help you at the Schultarian Space Research Headquarters in Schultaria Prime.

We hope that this is acceptable,
-Director Joan Covey

For the rest of the international community:

Due to the senseless and wonton act of Eldaimovey's destruction, Schultaria Prime's sales of space technology has been put on hold until such time when adequate emergency facilities can be built. However, with the loss of such experienced flight controllers and ground personnel, even the most conservative estimates for a partial restoration of launch services is estimated at three years. As we mourn for the innocent people who lost their lives in the pursuit of science, we hope that you will understand our loss.

Thank you for your time,

1. My nation simply isn't technically experienced enough to handle the systems for putting people into space.

2. Our nation has no trans-light propulsion technology, nor will it produce or research any such concepts in the near future (see the Attack on Eldaimovey thread for further details)

3. I would like to see a reasonably crafted role play as to the nature, usage, and practice of this vessel. A simple demand for this type of craft, given Schultaria Prime's current threatened position and peaceful historical attitudes, would be an extraordinary leap of faith or massively complex private RP.
