Following the failure of our first significant major research project (1), the National Assembly of Schultaria Prime has issued a statement to all countires willing to offer any assistance.

"Following the resounding catastrophe of our most recent reactor project, it has come to the attention of this government that we will require technological aid from countries on a similar level to us.

We are asking for any form of assistance, no matter how great or small; it will be recieved with the greatest appreciation by our nation. At the present time, there are several high-level research projects that the University of Schultaria Prime, in conjunction with the government, have been working on with little progress. A small list of our most promising research projects are as follows...

+Commercial and Military Nuclear (Fission) Reactors
+High Tensile Strength Carbon Fiber Composites
+Small Payload Sattelite Delivery Systems

We thank you for any assistance you might be able to donate,
-The National Assembly of Schultaria Prime"

Doujin utilizes Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactors for nuclear power.

The Sodium-Cooled Fast Reactor (SFR) system features a fast-spectrum, sodium-cooled reactor and a closed fuel cycle for efficient management of actinides and conversion of fertile uranium.

The fuel cycle employs a full actinide recycle with two major options: One is an intermediate size (150 to 500 MWe) sodium-cooled reactor with uranium-plutonium-minor-actinide-zirconium metal alloy fuel, supported by a fuel cycle based on pyrometallurgical processing in facilities integrated with the reactor. The second is a medium to large (500 to 1,500 MWe) sodium-cooled reactor with mixed uranium-plutonium oxide fuel, supported by a fuel cycle based upon advanced aqueous processing at a central location serving a number of reactors. The outlet temperature is approximately 550 degrees Celsius for both.

The SFR is designed for management of high-level wastes and, in particular, management of plutonium and other actinides. Important safety features of the system include a long thermal response time, a large margin to coolant boiling, a primary system that operates near atmospheric pressure, and intermediate sodium system between the radioactive sodium in the primary system and the water and steam in the power plant. With innovations to reduce capital cost, the SFR can serve markets for electricity.

The SFR's fast spectrum also makes it possible to use available fissile and fertile materials (including depleted uranium) considerably more efficiently than thermal spectrum reactors with once-through fuel cycles.

We thank the nation of Doujin for their reactor proposal; would you be willing to help us in further analyzing our own reactor problems before we proceed with any further advancement? There is the very likely possibility that our fission control mechanisms were not up to the task.

Probably Schultaria.

IC:

Doujin will send a team of engineers to conduct tests on the reactor created by your University.

-Midday in Schultaria Prime.

As the sun pierced out from the clouds, Dean Gregor looked nervously twoards the north of the growing metropolis. He knew that this campus, HIS campus, represented the hopes and dreams of not only every academic in Schultaria, but every politician as well. Ever since the initial reports of doubt from the "Haarvekord" incident, he began to develop unusual compulsions. Turning back to look at the clock, he bagan to pace steadily in circles.

"Why did this project, out of all of them, have to fail? It's always the most expensive projects that don't work. What will the University Board of Regents think of me? Aaagh, have to keep my mind clear; the delegation will be comming soon."

The "delegation", a group of scientists and engineers from Doujin, had arrived three days earlier at the port of Edgen. Now, as their motorcade approached the University Mall, Gregor decided that he would meet them personally at the Department of Particle Physics' campus.

The building, a truibute to late twentith century design, stood out amongst the quaint brick and mortar lecture halls of the University Proper. It's granite and stainless steel facade cast an image of strength and gave pride in both the people who worked there and those who passed by. Within it's walls stood the most advanced multi-disciplinary research projects in the nation, the center of which was the Nuclear Research Group designed to produce an operable reactor out of little more than primitive diagrams of Fermi-style nuclear piles and the vision of the late Professor Ulzmer Haarvekord.

"God, will they think our research efforts a laughing stock?"

The Doujin team of scientist get out of their vehicles, and look on at the University Mall.

"Sheesh, how low on the technology scale could they be?"

"Now Edwards, shut up. We were once at this stage too."

The team walked into the University and were greated by Dean Gregor.

"Hello, Dean Gregor. I am Bartholomew Edwards, Chief Engineer of the Doujin Nuclear Physics Agency. We brought with us several designs of efficient nuclear reactors, and wish to see the schematics and other relevant data of the "Haarvekord" reactor your people built. Nothing works on the first try, so don't feel to bad."

Edwards smiled, inwardly already laughing at the people of Schultaria.

The Dean stiffened his posture, already feeling the pangs of tension and nervousness that his mind would most certainly grant him. "I've got be more personable, be friendly, but most of all be proud John!" thought Gregor, knowing that the first appearance means everything.

"On behalf of the University and the nation, I thank you for comming on such short notice. I hope that your trip from the port of Edgen was pleasant and you have found your stay comfortable so far. The trust you have placed in us both in sharing your technological expertise and personal involvement is nothing short of inspiring. If you would come this way," John opened the first set of brushed aluminium doors "Professors Ormich and Kronsen are currently waiting for you in computer modeling center on the fourth floor."

"That went okay," Gregor sighed a bit of relief, "Hopefully with their help this project can get back on track, and I can still keep my job. Let's just hope that these analyses don't de-evolve into a shouting match."

As the group was led to the fourth floor by a group of eager graduate students, the Dean sauntered back to his office a kilometer away.
