Current: AX-3A 'Malcha'
The Malcha is the new prototype spyplane for the Kelonian States - it's declassification is part of the scheme to make Kelonian government activities more transparent for the people, a project launched by new vice-Premier Zamantha Flakkov.
On completing top-secret test flights from Roloff AFB in remote western Kelonia, and it's first 'active' mission spying on recent troop buildups in the middle east, The 'Malcha' (Kelonian for 'Silent') has been granted rights to become Kelonia's new spy plane (though the current crop of SR-71s will remain in service for the time being).
Here are some basic stats about the Malcha aircraft:
Manufacturer: Kelonian Military AWR & Turvic Industries
Required Crew: 5 (2 Pilots, 3 ECMO*s)
Length/Height: 64ft (25.6m) / 14ft (4.2m)
Wingpan: 52ft (20.2m)
Wing Area: 2,152sq. ft.
Wing Sweep: 58.92 degrees
Weight (Empty): 24,000lbs
Weight (Max): 70,000lbs
Fuselage D'mtr: 4.88ft
Service Ceiling: 93,000ft
Max. Speed: Mach 3.2
Cruising Speed: Mach 2.5
Engine Type: 2 Turvic Industries AS54 'Airspike'-capable turbojets
Engine Thrust:38,000lbs
Active Range: 5,200 nautical miles (unaided)
* Electronic Counter-Measures Officers
The plane features currently classified electro-optical stealth technology, anti-stealth detector technology, numerous high-tech defence and detection-evasion techniques and an engine type previously unseen on any Kelonian aircraft, allowing it to reach astonishing speeds.
These technologies cannot be revealed at the moment due to top-secret classification of some of the methods involved, but rest assured they will be revealed as soon as it becomes prudent (i.e. we see other nations with similar or better technology on general display). Presently, five AX-3s are being prepared for military service in Kelonia, and a bigger force will be rolled out if they prove themselves useful in further 'live' situations and as and when required.
Latest Update: Note: These changes are carried out on the AX-3/1 unless specified - this is the main testbed aircraft.
By increasing the pressure-handling systems and tweaking current performance, the AWR have managed to make an experimental, in-development Malcha reach 101,000ft and cruise with no adverse effects - this smashes the previously quite conservative predicted service ceiling. Also, the cockpit of the aircraft has been enlarged to allow for fourth and fifth crew members - who would be ECMO's (Electronic Counter-Meaure Officers) operating the new tactical jamming system fitted on board the aircraft).
