Seizure of Layarteb Embassy
Dnalkrad

"The Free Land of Dnalkrad has undergone a coup. The previous, corrupt regime of President Harold Hartley has been overthrown. Harold Hartley was the leader of the Glorious Revolution but his promises to turn Dnalkrad into a free republic were nothing but empty. President Hartley has brutally oppressed those who support a free republic and has plundered much of the gold stocks of Dnalkrad for himself. Two days ago, his regime was overthrown and he executed in Dnalkrad City in the city square. General Frank Joubin of the Dnalkrad Army has taken over the government and instituted a momentary military dictatorship.
"Now for General Joubin." Reporter Mike Donald of the Dnalkrad News Agency said as the screen switched over to a press conference room, apparently the victim of a shoot out. Blood and bullet holes still decorated the walls. The general was sitting behind a desk, robust and battle proven. He looked tired and weary, having led a fourteen day offensive against the regime of Harold Hartley. He had probably slept fourteen hours in the past fourteen days but regardless, he was alert and looked somewhat freshened. His glasses wore his face down and his hair looked grayer then it had been two weeks prior. He had, during the fourteen days, missed seven close calls from artillery and mortar fire but overall prevailed.
"Ladies and gentlemen of the Free Land of Dnalkrad. It is my pleasure to be speaking to you from this room. Over the past fourteen days the pro-republic forces have been waging full war with the corrupt regime of former President Harold Hartley. His body is now lying in city square after his execution. But we are not just in support of removing his regime but rather those who supported the regime. That is one nation in particular, the Empire of Layarteb. The Empire of Layarteb supported the regime of Harold Hartley from day one and gave monetary assistance.
"I am ordering my forces to seize the Layarteb embassy at once and ask for their removal immediately and for a refund of all money they gave the regime of Harold Hartley. The sum amounts to a total of one trillion dollars. We demand this immediately and ask that it be put into the treasury of the Free Land of Dnalkrad at once. Until such demands are met we will continue to hold the embassy. That is all for now!"

OOC: For the record, Dnalkrad was a puppet set up by me but after the Glorious Revolution I turned it over to a friend who was interested in NS. He didn't want to start from scratch so I let him have this. Therefore, this may be my original nation but a friend who is using it.
Statement from the Emperor of Layarteb
"We see this act of aggression towards us as an unprovoked declaration of war. The Empire of Layarteb did fund Harold Hartley with the intentions that all money we gave goes to people after having been taxed at a rate of 100%. Therefore we refuse to repay this new regime, which we do not officially recognize. They seized power through an illegal coup, making claims that were not true.
"The aggression against our embassy will be met with equal aggression against the embassy of Dnalkrad. We have seized their embassy as well and will hold its personnel until our embassy is released from captivity. Any further aggression against the Empire of Layarteb will result in a full offensive against Dnalkrad."

Telliria believes that Layarteb should pay the money, or at least a portion of it. They should also withdraw their embassy to save documents and the people who work their. They same goes for Dnalkark.
We find this talk of an "illegal coup" discomforting. There is no such thing as an illegal coup, if the people or military is unhappy, they may do whatever they believe neccissary.

OOC: So you really want to mess with the awesome power that is the Empire of Layarteb.
Telliria: The General now in charge is a money whording goat who wants $1T in his personal piggy bank. We know that the $1T was given to citizens as it was handed out during an elaborate system conducted by us. Each citizen recieved a certain amount and the reserves went into the treasury which was not depleted.

OOC: Yes I do. You wronged my nation man. You gave it to me in the dumps and now I have to resurrect it to something great.
The General sat in his office reading over the statement from the Emperor of Layarteb, "I cannot believe this nonsense! We have no choice. We cannot go back now. They must not be able to show the documents. Contact the embassy staff in Dnalkrad."
An aide fumbled with some papers and dialed a number on the secure line. But it wasn't totally "secure." The General knew that the Emperor had to have some sort of survelliance going on so he motioned to the aide to make it quick, "Gimme the phone." He reconsidered and instantly snapped his fingers. The aide handed him the phone.
"George. This is General Joubin. Yes I'm aware they seized your embassy. Yes I am aware. Yes. I have instructions for you. The classified material. Destroy it! No we can't find theirs. Yes. Very well."
The General hung up the phone. He looked at the aide, sweat on his face, "Listen I want you to get down to the Layarteb embassy immediately. Take a division with you. Find their documents or else start executing them. Clear?"
The aide nodded, "Crystal clear sir."

OOC: I hope you're joking about this. Gimme a ring
Hidden deep within a mountain, the Layarteb National Security Agency intercepted a comminque from originating in Dnalkrad City. While it was being intercepted, the station chief phoned his supervisor, who phoned the agency chief, who immediately phoned the Emperor. The Emperor immediately phoned the battalion commander, LTC. David Busnick.
Over at the Dnalkrad embassy, LTC. Busnick ordered his soldiers to sweep through the embassy and obtain all documents. Before the telephone call was over, every document throughout the embassy both in and out of the safes were in possession of LTC. Busnick and his battalion.
The Emperor picked up a truly secure line to the embassy in Dnalkrad. It's telephone line was a single line that ran underneath the land at a depth of eighty-five feet and was only tappable if the line was broken. Nonetheless, if it were comprimised, a red light on the phone would be lit and that light was not lit. He picked up the phone and it immediately rang in the vault in the third sub-basement of the embassy. it was currently unknown to exist by Dnalkrad but within a matter of hours, if not minutes it would be. There was a guard stationed there all the time and a section chief. "Hello Mr. Emperor. How may I help you? This is section chief Linda Karakas."
"Linda. Listen carefully. The embassy is overrun by Dnalkrad forces. As you are aware, all documents are kept in your vault. Other documents are falsified or non-important. Those documents in your vault, is it correct that they are duplicated to our facilities here?"
"Yes sir. Fully duplicated."
"Very well. Destroy them all immediately and ensure that the vault remains closed. If they get into it I assure you they will not hesistate to kill you. Excuse me for being frank but I must emphasize that."
"Yes sir. I fully understand."
"Excellent. Please call my office immediately if the vault is breached. If you cannot talk just pick up the phone and hold down a number so that I know."
"Yes sir."
"Good. Best of luck to you." The Emperor hung up the phone and signed to himself. I really hope she prevails.

OOC: I'm dead serious.
The General picked up the ringing phone, fearing the worst. "General Joubin speaking. Yes. No documents. FIND THEM!" He screamed at the top of his lungs and slammed the phone down. He looked at his aide, "They can't find anything of relevance. I knew they were paranoid over there but I didn't realize just to what extent."
"Sir." The other phone was now ringing, the direct line to the Dnalkrad embassy in Layarteb. "Sir." The General was sweating crazily. "Sir."
"I HEARD YOU! Give me a minute!" The General wiped his brow with his hand and picked up the phone, "General Joubin. Yes. WHAT!" He slammed the phone down. He turned to his aide, "They've seized all our documents. They...damnit!" The General stood up and looked behind him at a map of the region. Layarteb was right on the border. "Jackson."
"Yes General?" Jackson Browne, the aide asked.
"Ready all of our forces. We have no other alternative. Prepare for an assault. They're going to attack us. I know it."
"General, can we just repeal and withdraw?"
"If we do they'll expose us. You have your orders."
"Yes sir." Within minutes, throughout the entire country, air defense soldiers were manning their posts and preparing for a full onslaught. SAM and AAA sites all across the country were on full alert status.
When the aide re-entered the room, the General was sifting through a pile of papers. "They'll come in with stealth first and take out our air defenses."
"We can't detect them can we?"
"No."
"So then what are we supposed to do?"
"Invade with a ground assault. They are not prepared for that and the border isn't mined anymore. We can go full through."
"Yes sir. What shall I do?"
"OP-PLAN-BETA."
"Yes sir." The aide left immediately.

OOC: Your funeral. If I win can I have my nation back? And yes this entails unrestricted warfare.
The Emperor, in the dimly lit office that was signature to him looked at his aide, "What's the word on our embassy?" Just then the secure line to the embassy in Dnalkrad rang. "S***!" The Emperor picked up the phone and heard only a beep. "Well I hope they destroyed the files." As he was hanging up the phone a gun shot echoed. He let out a sigh and hung the phone up. "They may have just killed Agent Linda Karakas."
The Emperor nodded to one of the aides and immediately, the high council for military affairs (basically all the leading generals, admirals, etc.) and some additional aides entered the room and sat at a large conference table. The Emperor stood and took his respective seat at the head near his desk. "Ladies and gentlemen. A very serious situation has erupted as you are all aware. I just got a call from our agent in the vault in the Dnalkrad embassy. Dnalkrad forces have overrun the vault and I can only hope that the documents were destroyed. Diplomacy is quickly running out of hope. I will issue an ultimatum to General Joubin. If his forces are not out of the embassy within 2 hours I will be forced to commence an offensive against his country at my discretion. Now barring all aside, what intelligence have you for me?"
"Sir," the General of the Air Force spoke up, "enemy forces are on full alert. Bombers are ready on the TARMAC with weapons ready, most likely Kickback missiles for the Tu-160s and Tu-22s. I am sure some also have iron bombs. Fighter coverage is very dense with anywhere between two hundred and seven hundred fighters in the air right now and all the rest are on full alert on the ground. Electronic warfare planes and strike fighters are also fully prepared and armed. Passes by our reconnaissance aircraft and satellites show that at the five airbases, defensives have nearly tripled. They'll know we'll hit them first there."
"Very well. And of their Navy?"
"Sir," the Admiral of the Navy spoke up on cue, "they have sortied their whole fleet and have only a few coastal patrol ships within their territorial waters. The rest are heading out to international waters. We know they'll be coming towards us but at the moment they are just heading out, either that or they are seeking safety and shelter. We have submarines shadowing the fleet as we speak, riding in their propellar wakes traveling at the same speed, which is roughly fifteen knots. We are using our Scythe to shadow them so they will not be able to detect us. Enemy submarine forces are unaccounted for except for four Kilo SSNs heading with the fleet. We imagine the others are heading towards us very slowly. Our SOSUS net has yet to detect anything and we have our coastal patrol assets on full alert. The nineth and tenth fleets are currently sortied and at sea with the other six offensive fleets being prepared as well though I do not expect to have to deploy them."
"And you won't. Just make it appear they are going to deploy. Maybe General Joubin will wise up. But not likely. Their army?"
"Well sir," the General of the Army slid down a folder to the Emperor, "as you can see there is increased activity on the border but I highly doubt they will invade into us."
"As do I, that would be suicidal. Noted. Proceed."
"Well sir, they still believe the border is mined, I am sure of that."
"As am I."
"Well then I don't know what they are doing to be honest. If he expects a ground invasion as well I am sure that these forces are here for defensive measures but it is barely 1/10th of their army so I can't imagine what is going on. Otherwise, I believe we should invade through with ground forces within five to eight days of the start of the operation."
"Very good. You are thinking well general. Please do you worry about the details you do not know, I cannot imagine them either."
"Thank you sir."
"Space and Air Defense Command what have you got for me?"
"Well sir," the General of the Space Command said, "air defenses are at full readiness level. Our satellites are in orbit and standing by on normal operational status. As for our ballistic missiles, they are on normal conditioning."
"Very well. I don't particularly want to nuke them into oblivion and it's rather stupid since they're right on the border. We have them for further deterrence against larger foes. Very well, what are their WMD capabilities?"
"They have Anthrax, freefall nuclear bombs, Ricin, Sarin, and VX. We don't expect them to use anything because it will entail a response from our stockpiles, which are, to say the least, vast. Especially our CAF."
"CAF, yes. I want to see how it does in the field."
"But sir," the chief aide interjected, "we must..."
"I know, I know. For the time being we are remaining conventional in this war. I don't want to use any nuclear weapons, we're right on the border. The same goes for chemical or biological. I see no need for any of that. However, I must ask the admiral, what's the status of those nineth and tenth fleets? Can they enforce a blockaide?"
"Sir. They are a blockaide in themselves. They can not only enforce it they can seal off the entire country to the sea lanes."
"Very well. Put some extra Virginias and Seawolfs on it. Keep some 688s out in the sea and keep the Scythes shadowing the enemy fleet. We'll meet again at 1830. I will place the call immediately. They will have until 1700 and I will give them a thirty minute grace period just for the benefit of the doubt." The staff exited but a lone aide, the chief aide.
"Sir you look puzzled?" He asked.
"He knows we'll flatten him. He knows our aircraft can get in and out without them knowing it and that we can hit their entire air force and air defense net in a day or two. He has something up his sleeve that he knows can give him an upper hand. Something is seriously going on here. I don't know what."
"Me either sir. Just keep to the plans at hand."
"Very well. I'm going to place the call now." He did and they had until 1700. General Joubin sounded very firm on the phone, vowing to fight the Layartebians on the ground, in the air, and in the sea. He was definitely not going to waver!

OOC: You win. I know your plans and I know your stratedgies. Please if I lose I'll buy you dinner.
General Joubin hung up the phone and began pacing around the room. "They're going to be coming at 1900. If I know the Emperor he'll give us until 1700 and then a half hour grace period. Then he'll meet with his executive staff and around 1900 as the sun is setting and in our eyes as they'll be flying out of the sun, they'll hit our airports, our radars, our communications, high value targets, and such. We must launch our attack into their territory then."
"Very well sir." The advisor knew not to question the general at this time. Everything was set. General Joubin was standing firm.

OOC: You lucky I got training tomorrow at 9a so I can be around to continue this.
Telliria: LOL what was that?
1700 came and went. The Layarteb embassy was still under seizure and therefore so was the Dnalkrad embassy. Nonetheless, the Emperor conveined his meeting. "Gentlemen, I assure you know the situation has passed zero hour." They nodded. "The first wave will include B-1Bs, B-2s, B-4s, F-19s, F-22s, F-24s, F-25s, and F-117s. I want full stealth. Have the F-24s and F-25s sweep the air of enemy fighters and have F-19s and F-117s take out radars and communications. Have the F-22s provide CAP as well. Use the B-4s to attack the most heavily defended targets, that pretty much is Dnalkrad City. I want the B-2s on the runways and the B-1Bs on the other high value targets. Now with enemy air defenses. Put some additional stealth attackers on them, use navalized F-19s and F-24s for that kind of stuff. Nonetheless, you boys know how to do this I am just recommending what I know from capabilities. Feel free to interject." Nobody did. "Is this silence genuine?" They nodded, being in agreement. "Very well. Commence airstrikes at 2100. Good luck men!"
The chiefs and commanders dispersed. The army was being formed up at the bases, preparing to engage across the border in six days, during the new moon. It was perfect timing, a moonless night and right in the middle of a war. They couldn't ask for it better. They'd shell the border starting at day two and until the invasion began. The target was capturing General Joubin alive so that he could face trial in Layarteb for crimes against Layarteb and its nationals.

1830 passed and the general paced in his fortified bunker deep underneath the square of Dnalkrad City. The bunker was built to withstand hits from GBU-28 Bunker Busters and thus sat a hundred and twenty feet underground. He watched as the central command post that he hid in lay dormant. The radar screens were empty, though they would be even if Layarteb was in the skies. The passive detection systems were also empty. And finally, the damage report was empty. There was no action over Dnalkrad into 1900. Then the time passed into 2000. Maybe the Emperor was bluffing the general mulled over and over and over.
2100, came and nothing happened. But finally, things began to happen. At 2115, the damage control screen lit up. It has begun. We invade at 0400.
"Gentlemen, stick to your bearings. Maintain the plan at hand. 0400 is when we fight them across the border. We will overrun their defenses and be in Layarteb City before they even know what hit them!"

OOC: Bout time you came back I was getting bored waiting for you in this game of quid pro quo.
The first in were the B-2s and F/A-22s. There were 80 of them. 20 were going to the airfields, four per airfield. There were different loads per aircraft. Two aircraft carried 80 GBU-38 500-lb JDAMs, one carried 16 GBU-35 1,000-lb JDAMs, and one carried 8 GBU-27 2,000-lb Paveway III LGBs. The planes with the GBU-35s hit the shelters and other structures while the Paveay IIIs were used on the runway. The GBU-38s were used against air defenses, parked vehicles, parked aircraft, and soft targets like fuel drums, storage shelters, etc. The 200 F/A-22s that were heading in with the B-2s were each equiped with 6 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs and 2 AIM-9X Sidewinders.
The second wave, followed at 2300 after the B-2s were done with their targets. This wave was the big wave. 60 F-24s, 60 F-25s, 60 F-19s, and 40 B-4s. The F-24s were loaded with 4 AIM-9X Sidewinders and 8 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs. The F-25s were loaded with 8 AIM-9X Sidewinders, 8 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs, and 10 AGM-88E AARGMs. But only 30 carried AARGMs. The other 30 aircraft carried 10 GBU-16 1,000-lb Paveway IIs. Thirty F-19s all carried 8 GBU-35 JDAMs and the other thirty carried 4 GBU-34 JDAMs. Finally, the B-4s carried 48 GBU-35s each. The F-24s immediately took over air cover from the F/A-22s and the F-25s went to work doing the same but also hunting the surface-to-air sites. The F-19s swept through hitting radars and communication sites. The B-4s swept through hitting targets deep in Dnalkrad City and in the hidden regions throughout Dnalkrad where leadership, communications, and HQ targets.
The third wave swept through at 0100 with 40 B-1Bs, 100 F-117s, and 40 more B-2s. The B-1Bs were loaded with either 84 MK-82s, 84 GBU-38s, 24 GBU-35s, or 24 GBU-34s. The F-117s each carried two GBU-27s. The B-2s all carried either 16 GBU-34s or 8 GBU-27s. They struck at more high value targets and against the airfields again. F-117s on the other hand continued to strike communications and radar posts.
The carnage had to be devestating.
Dnalkrad
21-03-2004, 06:15
The high powered radars had tracked small radar blips. They were the the tell-tale signature of B-2s and F-117s. SAMs immediately lifted off using visual subguidance and the SA-10 site let loose with a heavy barrage. But of the many of the aircraft in the air were swept down from the array of missiles coming from unknown sources. There were not nearly as many radar contacts as there should have been and unfortunately all radar operators failed to recalculate before their screens went dark.
Destroy in the air were 300 MiG-29S Fulcrum-Cs, 85 MiG-31 Foxhound-As, 40 Su-27 Flanker-Bs, and 88 Su-30M Flanker-Cs. All five airbases were out of action with their runways badly damaged as well as the shelters. Milksdale AFB was completely eradicated, planes and all. Parkdale AFB was in just as bad shape. The only thing survived on the ground at Parkdale were 20 Su-24MR Fencer-E strike fighters and 12 Tu-160 Blackjack-A bombers. Baker AFB was out of commission but most of its fighters and bombers remained unhurt. There were 8 MiG-29S Fulcrum-Cs, 178 Su-24M Fencer-Ds, 60 Su-27 Flanker-Bs, 85 Su-34 Fullbacks, and 50 Tu-22M-3 Backfire-Cs remaining. Jakartan AFB was out of commission as well with its entire force wiped out. At Dnalkrad IAP, all aircraft on the ground remained in tact, 2 A-50s, 50 An-72s, 40 An-124s, 20 Il-76s, 20 Il-78s, 100 MiG-23s, 50 MiG-25s, 40 MiG-29s, 40 MiG-31Ms, 60 Su-27s, and 12 Su-30s.
However, the air defense net was severely weakened. Both SA-10 sites were offline, all SA-4 and SA-6 sites were offline, 19 of the SA-11s were destroyed, 9 SA-2s were out of commission, and 8 SA-3s were out of commission. The AAA net around Dnalkrad City was still intact as well as the immediate SAM units. Air defenses at all five airbases were destroyed however.
Power was offline along with communications and radar coverage. All 17 radar sites were destroyed badly. Of the 100 communications sites, 87 were still operational. 12 powerplants were destroyed badly and 9 remained active, straining to provide power. Two of them were nuclear powerplants, one was a solar collector, and the other six were natural gas.
Military casulaties estimated at well over 65,000 and civilian casualties between 800 and 6,720. A bomb hit a hospital and caused it to collapse upon a shelter just next door to it.
And so the aerial retaliation was held off. The Dnalkrad fleet was two hundred nautical miles off shore and beginning a southerly turn so that it could turn towards Layarteb. It had no contacts except for the Layarteb fleet approximately forty-two miles offshore. They had no idea the Dnalkrad fleet was there as it was steaming ahead only on passive sensors.
The ground invasion was ready. At 0400, the camoflauge was removed. The instant offensive was led by 400 T-80Us, 100 T-72s, 250 T-64s, 700 BMP-3s, 200 BMP-2s, 600 BTR-90s, and 1,600 other vehicles. BM-21, BM-27, and BM-30 MLRS batteries were unleashing upon defensive positions along the border, which comprised of only a battalion or two of armor. 152MM artillery from 2S19s and 2A65s were pounding the ground hard. KA-50s and Mi-24s were assaulting forces as well, 48 Ka-50s and 200 Mi-24s. 120 Mi-17s were flying in elite special troops. SS-1C and SS-21 batteries were set up loaded with fully conventional warheads, preparing to launch a strike against rear echelon elements. With the armored units were roughly 65,000 soldiers.

OOC: SA-10s yeah those will dish out some losses in the F-117, B-2, and B-1B categories but you realize the other aircraft I used have signatures 1/1000th that of the F-117. I should have sent them in with EF-111s and EA-6s. Whooops!
http://www.azcentral.com/sshow/News/Projects/435_4986.jpghttp://www.azcentral.com/sshow/News/Projects/435_4987.jpg
The aircraft returned from the first wave ontime but some were missing. Of the B-1Bs, there were twenty-one that did not return. Of the B-2s there were six that did not return. Of the F-117s, there were twelve that did not return. Given the dark of the night, nobody had seen any parachutes but plenty of beacons were active. Secretly deployed black operations and special operations teams were immediately dispatched to assist in the rescue of the pilots but so far nothing had been reported back. They knew some pilots were dead and that others were probably already rounded up by Dnalkrad forces but as far as the rest, there was a giant unknown for them.
http://www.azcentral.com/sshow/News/Projects/435_4988.jpghttp://www.azcentral.com/sshow/News/Projects/435_4991.jpg
After the third wave returned, another wave, being planned was on its way out again at 0300. This one was aimed at destroying more aircraft on the ground and more of the air defense net. EF-111s escorted the fighters and bombers in and out. F-15Cs and F/A-22s were providing CAP. B-1Bs were going back in. F-19s were flying in with F-24 escorts and F-25s were returning to enemy airspace as well. F-16C and F-16CJ fighters were ingressing in as well with F-15Es. Also, the cruise missile sorties began with B-52Hs, B-3As, and B-5As. These cruise missiles would strike a list of over nine thousand enemy targets as they would for the next few days.

F-15Cs and F/A-22s were each loaded with 6 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs and 2 AIM-9X Sidewinders. F-19s carried 4 AIM-9X Sidewinders and either 4 AGM-88E AARGMs or 6 AGM-65G Mavericks or 18 Brimstones. F-24s carried 4 AIM-9X Sidewinders and 8 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs. F-25s carried 4 AIM-9X Sidewinders, 4 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs, and either 10 AGM-88E AARGMs, 16 AGM-65G Mavericks, or 15 GBU-32 JDAMs. F-16Cs were loaded with 2 Paveway III GBU-24 LGBs, 2 AIM-9X Sidewinders, and 2 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs. The F-16CJs carried the same load as the F-16Cs but with 2 AGM-88D HARMs or 2 AGM-88E AARGMs. Launching cruise missiles were B-52Hs, which carried 20 AGM-86E CALCM Block IIIs. The B-3As each carried 36 AGM-86E CALCM Block IIIs. The B-1Bs were comming in with either 24 GBU-34s, GBU-35s, or 84 GBU-38s or MK-82s. B-5As carried 30 GBU-32s or GBU-35s for airfield attacks. The F-15Es carried 2 AIM-9X Sidewinders, 2 AIM-120C-5 AMRAAMs, and either 8 GBU-32s or GBU-35s or 4 GBU-24s, GBU-31s, or GBU-34s or an assortment of JDAMs, LGBs, and guided missiles.

The ORBAT was as follows: 20 B-1B Lancers, 20 B-52H Stratofortresses, 20 B-3A Concordes, 100 B-5A Lightnings, 200 EF-111A Ravens, 200 F-15C Eagles, 70 F-15E Strike Eagles, 100 F-16C Falcon Block 50s, 60 F-16CJ Falcon Block 52Ds, 50 F-19A Ghostriders, 50 F-24A Knightowls, 50 F-25A Firefoxes, and 150 F/A-22 Raptors. AWACS, J/STARS, Predators, and Global Hawks had been up since 1830 flying shifts maintaining the air and ground battles.

There was a fifth wave set for 0500 to be flying in roughly the same as the previous wave but for attacking hardened targets and continued air defenses. Attacks on Dnalkrad City would resume again at 2000 when the sun was fully down so stealth could be used to its best ability.
http://www.peiknet.com/1382/milla/pics/baghdad.gif
However, the fifth wave had to be moved up to 0600. As it was being prepared, border defenses reported being overrun by Dnalkrad elements. There were well over 5,000 armored units and vehicles crossing into territory and they had already advanced thirty-two miles by 0500. They would advance at least seventy-eight before they could be stopped. Friendly forces were reporting high rates of attrition and casaulties. The entire 1st Cavalry Division was obliterated. It consisted of 200 Humvees, 230 M1A2 Abrams', 120 M1B1 Abrams IIs, 120 M2A2 Bradleys, 200 M2A3 Bradleys, 200 M6 Bradley Linebackers, 110 M109A6 Paladins, 110 M109A7 Paladins, 280 M113A3 APCs, 110 M270 MLRSs, 120 Strykers, 100 ST-09 NGBTs, 100 ST-11 NGBTs, 800 Trucks, and 1,400 other vehicles. With them, most of the 1st Infantry Corps were either dead, dying, injured, or captured. They totaled 15 divisions with 150,000 soldiers, 5,000 other men, and 15,000 officers. This was to be the assault force heading into Dnalkrad. Close air support wasn't available yet and immediately elements of the 1st Airborne Wing were immedately readied. The 1st Airborne Wing had 200 AH-6J Littlebirds, 120 AH-64D Apache Longbows, 120 AH-66A Commanches, 40 CH-47D Chinooks, 120 OH-58D Kiowa Warriors, 320 UH-60L Blackhawks, and 80 UV-22A Ospreys. A-10As, F-16Cs, and F-15Es were being prepared at the various airbases to fly combat air support for the next offensive. The 2nd Cavalry Division, which was identical to the 1st, the other 15 divisions of the 1st Infantry Corps, and the 1st Airborne Wing would be sent to defeat the Dnalkrad offensive.

The Seventh Veritasean Carrier Battle Group, which had been patrolling international waters in the near vicinity, has been given routing orders to proceed to Layarteb immediately. The High Chancellor Unum Veritas, meanwhile sent a communique to the Emperor of Layarteb stating Veritasean support for their actions and offering the use of the Seventh CBG against Dnalkrad. Although UV does recognize the peoples' right to revolution, it should not be overly used, nor should attempts at blackmail be made by newly instated governments. The 7th CBG has been ordered to impose a blockade of Dnalkrad until further orders arrive. Reinforcements are also en route to increase the Veritasean presence in the area.

OOC-I don't have to be sent. I've had relations with Layarteb in the past (BTW, Layarteb, are you in the LoD?) and I'm bored and looking for a really good, semi-small scale naval RP and this popped up. So, if Layarteb doesn't mind, I'm going to jump in on the action. 8)

Unum Veritas: Welcome aboard. I like your reasoning and such. I must advise though that this is more of a regional conflict but I will welcome your support. If you can please take up a blocking position. There has been the request elsewhere of Layarteb presence and I have to move out the 10th Fleet. So far just the 9th Fleet is there with 4 CVSGs around our new Enterprise class. It is entirely overkill but just in case other nations wish to involve themselves please assist in the blockaide. I doubt this dude is going to be dumb enough to approach either of them but him and his love of those damn Su-33s can get carried away.

And Dnal, he does have a point. Don't ignore him. Please. Or else I'm just going to carpet bomb you into oblivion and you know I've been holding back.

The Seventh Veritasean CBG has taken up blockading positions off the coast of Dnalkrad, with particular attention being paid to the harbor around Dnalkrad Shipyard. Combat Air Patrols have been doubled, and there is a CSA aloft at all times. Intelligence analysts are currently running over all information UV has on Dnalkrad and are drawing up targetting lists. The 7th CBG is now at full blockade alert; any Dnalkrad surface vessel, aircraft, or submarine that attempts to enter or leave Dnalkrad will be given a single warning before being attacked with the full resources of the battle group. Missile patrol boats have been deployed to handle smaller, civilian craft, and a plan to close the major harbors via mines is being developed. AEGIS and TAMD ships have activated their AA net, and the ASW frigates and sweeping the area for submarines. Several lines of sonobuoys have been dropped, and the whereabouts of the Veritasean submarines is currently unknown; however they are expected to have taken up aggressive positions forward of the surface ships.

LOD nope not a member.
I have new intelligence to add to the matter. The Dnalkrad fleet is currently unknown as in its position. Where we expected it to be by now is not so we have no clue. We can't find it either through passive detection and going active isn't too smart yet. So beware on that blockaide if he makes for an attack.
BTW what kind of cruise missiles do you have on that fleet?

We shall heed your warning. We're closing off his main shipyard currently and, if necessary, will destroy it to prevent resupply and repairs of his fleet. Mine laying operations have begun throughout the main harbors, and our signalsmen have pirated a radio frequency and are broadcasting news of the blockade and warning people not to attempt to violate it. Unfortunately we won't have a satellite pass for a few hours, so we can't use those to find his fleet. Do you perhaps have an available sat?
I am almost exclusively Western tech, but I've got about every such weapon that falls under that category. Tomahawks, HyStrikes, FastHawks, etc... And that isn't even counting the various air-launched munitions.

Well satellite passes show nothing. We believe they know our paths and though we are attempting to recalibrate, it isn't that easy. And on the mines. Make sure you record where they are because I plan on using that port after they are defeated. His port is pretty empty, just a few cargo vessels that are commerically owned, nothing military. He figured that I'd bomb that instantly so he put his whole fleet out to sea. The port must remain intact as long as there are no military vessels.

So no damaging the repair facilities, etc? Darn. Well, once the blockade ends, I'll send minesweepers to either pick the mines back up or detonate them. I'm waiting on Dnalkrad to return before posting a new attack, but I'm getting bored and eager so I'll at least start something...

Aboard the UVS Alegria
Elessar Class Supercarrier
Currently Conducting Blockade Operations off of Dnalkrad's Coast
***************************************
As night fell a single hovercraft transport exited the rear launch-bay of the Alegria, turned, and sped towards a deserted section of beach on Dnalkrad's coast. As the hovercraft sped across the water with only the sound of its fan to give away its presence, the Marine Sappers on board clutched their various packs nervously. Suddenly the hovercraft's pilot caught their attention, dropped the landing ramp, and motioned for them to get off. He didn't even stop the engines and, as soon as the last of the Marines had exited, closed the ramp and sped back towards the carrier.
A helicopter ought to be used for this type of thing, the pilot grumbled to himself, but no, they wanted to make sure no one would know...I'm not paid enough for this type of work!
The Marine Sappers immediately left the sight of their infiltration and headed towards the capital of Dnalkrad with all possible speed. They were dressed as everyday civilians and bore no signs of their actual purpose nor of their nationality. They separated and, as the early-morning crowds made their way into the city streets, the sappers slowly mingled into their midst...

OOC: Shall we? I gave James a call and he's on here too. Somewhere.
General Joubin paced in his underground bunker. "Unum Veritas is assisting Layarteb. As if the problems weren't big enough." There's no hope anymore. My plan is of no use. He turned to his generals. They had no air force, their navy was rogue, their army was at least heading towards Layarteb, well some of it. He still had his space based weapons though. There was a single EMP satellite that he had constructed from stolen secrets from Layarteb, secrets that were illegally sold to Harold Hartley. However, the person who sold the secrets stepped, most unfortunately, on a landmine oon his return and thus the transaction ended. The only way General Joubin knew about it was that he was in charge of putting it in space. It had enough power to knock out Layarteb City for the next two hundred years at least. The satellite was a prototype that was never put into service by Layarteb because it was not powerful enough for them but it would do just fine for General Joubin.
Most of the Dnalkrad Army was reinforcing the second line but they had divisions within Dnalkrad City, which would be their final stronghold. They had mined the beaches with well over thirteen thousand mines, which was a black project, done in the darkness of night shortly before the seizure of the Layarteb embassy. Marshall Law was imposed in Dnalkrad City and other cities though all efforts were going to be concentrated on Dnalkrad City.
General Joubin had his plan laid out in his head and his generals knew it. The EMP weapon, codename the Blue Daisy would remain within his head and his head only, for now. He alone possessed the firing system, a briefcase with satellite uplink equipment, locked in his office within this bunker. Nobody knew it existed.
The lack of radar and power throughout Dnalkrad left the country eeriely dark. All reserve power was reverted to Dnalkrad City and the few essential Dnalkrad military assets. ICBMs were on full alert and ready to be used at any moment but General Joubin knew that any use of such a weapon system would result in his entire population being eradicated. He did not want to venture to that.
Reports from the front in Layarteb were well. An entire cavalry division had been defeated, more or less overwhelmed. Dnalkrad forces were inching closer and closer to Layarteb. They were seventy-five miles into Layarteb and only about two hundred and seventy-five from Layarteb City when they were halted. The sun was rising in the distance as it was 0630. They were not aware that Layarteb had been bombing Dnalkrad all night and would continue all day.
Lieutent Colonel William Mickey was commanding the offensive. He was a career military leader, having fought in the civil war, in the Glorious Revolution, and in the latest coup. He was commanding from an airborne Mi-17 Hip, something unusual but not all together unlikely. He had his entire command center laid out and he could look out the window to see the Mi-24D Hind-D and Ka-50N Hokum-N escorts. He saw the flashes in the distance and immediately knew what was happened. "INCOMING ENEMY FIRE..TAKE EVASIVE ACTION...EXECUTE SLEDGE-HAMMER 0028" His command went to the tank commanders and other armored commanders. Countless shells rained down into the ground, salvo after salvo. Tanks were suerving out of the way and changing their patterns. Ka-50s and Mi-24s accelerated past the tanks and began engaging enemy positions. But, there was a surprise looming and LTC. Mickey knew it. He knew that where there was Layarteb artillery there was Layarteb airborne. That was the way they fought and he knew it. "ENEMY HELICOPTERS IN THE AREA WITH HIGH PROBABILITY!" He kept screaming into the radio, switching frequencies left and right. His offensive was well coordinated but this was a bump in the road!

OOC: Yeah yeah yeah. You better hurry with this, I have to be at work at 8a
The Layarteb Air Force was still fighting hard. As the sun rose, in their eyes, they took different routes. Since the air defense net was virtually eradicated except for those around Dnalkrad City, the biggest threat was MANPADs, AAA, and mobile SAM units. There were plenty of them around but they flew high, higher then 20,000 feet. That was one of the rules. Stealth aircraft were in the hardened shelters now. B-1s, B-52s, F-16s, F-15s, F-22s, F-111s, EF-111s, and other support aircraft were up left and right filling radar screens watching over Dnalkrad with countless contact plots. With the sun coming up, it was a perfect time for reconnaissance and Layarteb SR-71s, U-2s, Predators, and Global Hawks were flying 'round the clock. BDA of specialized targets was being undertaken by F-16s. U-2s and SR-71s were sent to the most heavily defended targets still, the ICBM base and Dnalkrad City.
The 2nd Cavalry Division though had come in contact with the enemy. 50 M109A6 Paladins and 50 M109A7 Paladins were firing 155MM shells at distances of 12 miles. Spotters had confirmed that enemy tanks were approaching and gave the coordinates. The M109A7s patched into satellites and gave updated target information. Being those was a line of M270 MLRS launchers, which opened up shortly later, firing their M26 and M30 rockets. When the artillery had fully softened the area the tanks would roll in. M1A2s and ST-09s were already on the roll, preparing to meet enemy forces shortly. Once the enemy tanks were within 6 miles, the M109A6s stopped firing and only the M109A7s took over since they could patch into satellites for realtime data streams. But that wasn't the only surprise they were throwing at them.
As a force of 120 M1A2s and 50 ST-09s sped towards the enemy tanks, firing at maximum range on the move, TOW launchers, LOSAT launchers, and IFVs joined. Behind the tanks then came the helicopters. 80 AH-64D Apache Longbows and 80 AH-66A Commanches were loaded with Hellfires, Stingers, and rockets. They were going to be pounding the hell out of the enemy forces. But still there was more. F-15Es loaded with Paveway IIs, Mavericks, and cluster bombs were approaching along with F-16Cs with the same types of weaponry though less, and eventually A-10s with their brutal 30MM cannons, Mavericks, cluster bombs, and rockets. Roughly 3,800 enemy trucks, tanks, APCs, and IFVs were approaching quickly and firing with force. A real echelon was made up of Scud launchers and Scarab launchers, being given target coordinates for the artillery and incoming tanks. Scarabs launched first and they were followed soon by the Scuds, being fired at shrot ranges with relative inaccurate coordinates they knew that. Reconnaissance confirmed the presence of this real echelon and they gathered that there would be many, many more tanks eventually behind them.
Air battles ensued, helicopters, fighters, attack planes, MANPADs, small arms, etc.

OOC: We shall
"Intel reports heavy ground and aerial combat just past the Layarteb/Dnalkrad border," an aide reported to Fleet Admiral Courtney Sterling.
"Alright, that means this thing is for real," she responded, "Send out the 'execute' order, and get some air cover for those Layarteb troops."
"Yes ma'am."
Ten minutes later 6 F/A-18 Super Hornets armed for air-to-ground combat took off towards the conflict area with a fighter escort of 6 F-23 Black Widow II's. The fighters flew in close formation low over the ground, using the terrain as a masking for their radar. Each Hornet carried three cluster munitions (bombs that, once released, release hundreds of smaller bomblets that each have the ability to destroy a tank) and a single 500lb bomb. The Black Widow's carried several air-to-air missiles, with one aircraft being specifically dedicated to seeking out enemy SAM's.
Meanwhile...
One of the Arsenal Ships in the 7th CBG entered in a few sets of coordinates to its targetting computer. These coordinates were immediately relayed to ten separate cruise missiles stored in their vertical launch cells on the top of the craft. Then, with a single command followed by a numerical access code, the hatches for all ten missiles opened and their booster engines engaged. The ten cruise missiles that suddenly left the ship that was little more than a missile-launching platform were the brand-new HyStrike cruise missile. This new munition traveled much much faster than the Tomahawk and had increased accuracy. The ten missiles sped across Dnalkrad's terrain, using their onboard computers to let them know where they were at. The ten missiles were now little more than a blur and were far too fast for nearly any SAM battery to engage. The missiles separated into five groups of two missiles. Two of the groups targetted key airbases within Dnalkrad City. Another group targetted the building that all radio traffic had been originating from and was assumed to be the command and control center for the Dnalkrad military or, perhaps, the residence of their new leader. The fourth group swerved towards Hubarbia City with the intent of dismantling the Army's headquarters, and the final pair of projectiles targetted Dnalkrad's ICBM fields with the hope of dismantling its arsenal.
OOC: I'm off for the night, I'll check back up on this tomorrow afternoon.

Along the front in Layarteb, the artillery, the rockets, and the hell was raining down. Layarteb ST-09s and M1A2s were destroying Dnalkrad tanks left and right. The airborne helicopters were taking a beating too from man portable missile launchers, primarily Stingers. Layarteb Apaches and Commanches were doing devestatingly well but were not immune themselves. SA-18s and helicopter fired missiles were engaging the low-flying helicopters constantly. RPGs were being fired by the hundreds but there was one major disadvantage. Fixed-wing aircraft were over the battlefield, making it that much harder to engage the enemy. Mavericks, Paveways, and cluster bombs were raining destruction down on tanks left and right. 30MM strafing runs by the A-10s were doing the most damage. Attrition rate looked at least over 98%. But that was only a single division. The rest were drawn back around Dnalkrad City, one was heading to the beach-head, and one was camoflauged so well near the Layarteb border that it had yet to be detected. Everyone there was following strict rules and not coming out from the camoflauge of an entire division of tanks, artillery, and soldiers. Mines were laid out ahead of them and IR suppression was in effect.
Small intensity radars had become operational over the ICBM base and Dnalkrad City shortly before noon on the second day. SA-15s were moved in to protect both major targets and 2S6M Tunguska-Ms were also set up in addition to Shilka and Sparka anti-aircraft guns. These radars had a range of about a hundred miles and something wasn't right. Two contacts were speeding in at medium altitude and high speed, the profile of a pair of fighters but much too fast. There were missiles coming both to the city and to the ICBM base. SAM commanders were alerted immediately but the missiles were within forty miles now, traveling very fast. It was doubtful they'd get any shots in. Luckily, the ICBM base had been built to withstand a direct 1 mT hit. Reinforcement measures allowed for the total protection of the system. Even if a missile struck a silo, it would only damage that one silo and the missile inside but the missile would not go nuclear.
The SA-15s and 2S6Ms firing a full salvo of four missiles per unit sending a total of 20 SA-15s and 16 SA-19s into the air at the ICBM base. The 2S6Ms also trained in their guns and fired with the Shilkas and the Sparkas. The same was going on around Dnalkrad City but in much larger quantities. At least double what was at the ICBM base.
General Joubin sat in his office and stared at the briefcase. The time is not right. He picked up his phone and dialed the commander on the front line of the Layarteb battle. "What's the situation?"
"Well sir, we're having some..." The line went dead. What had happened? General Joubin tried again and again but got nothing but a disconnection signal. Now what!
Around the battlefield, the smoldering wreckage of a crashed Mi-17 was among the many littering the battlefield. The Mi-17 was largely intact except for a small fire in the cockpit and from the missile impact. The pilot wasn't sure what hit him, whether it was an air to air missile or a ground missile but either way it took him down. LTC Mickey climbed out of the wreck with his assistant, SGT. James Batt. They were injured but not too badly. "I need to find a radio. Command has to know we're losing over here and that our helicopter is down. It's daytime so we shouldn't have much trouble. See if maybe we can flag down another Mi-17. Get to it sergeant!" LTC. Mickey barked as he wiped the blood from his forehead. Another friggin' crash. How many is it that I've survived now? Six? I have to learn to fly in aircraft. At least then when I crash I'll die and not be bloodied up!
Tanks took a pounding all afternoon into nightfall. Jets flew overhead constantly and throughout Dnalkrad bombs fell on target after target, slowly eradicating the Dnalkrad military. At Parkdale AFB, JDAMs destroyed all runway repair equipment and two Tu-160s. Furthermore, at Baker AFB, bombs and missiles took out a pair of Su-24Ms on the tarmac being repaired and ten Tu-22M-3s in shelters. Things were not looking up! But still they had their final stand, Dnalkrad City. A battle that, in itself, would take months!

Premier Chlevenkov glanced at the reports of the situation in Layarteb... He glanced to the tech sergeant that handed them to him...
"Why the hell wasn't I informed of this earlier?!"
"Sir, uh, we... Tried..."
He read the report over just to make sure it was real...
"Send a communique to Layarteb and tell them we can send military aid if its required... RTFN Sergeant!"
"Yes sir!" *The sergeant scurried back to his desk and quickly wrote up a communique to send to Layarteb*
From: Boris Chlevenkov, Premier, ARSB
To: Layarteb
Contents:
Comrade, I'm sorry this message was delayed, but the ARSB stands behind you and are willing to deploy air, land, and sea assets to assist your country, our OA ally. As of now we have mobilized our 1st Expeditionary Fleet, 3rd Submarine Operations Group, 12th Air Force (Two fighter commands [six wings total], two bomber commands [four bomber groups], and three special purpose commands [HQ, Transport, Support]), 33rd Fighter Wing, 1st Armored Corps, two infantry divisions, and four airborne assault regiments (Two infantry, one engineer, one armored), as well as a lone marine expeditionary force. We can have the four airborne regiments in Layarteb or Dnalkrad within 48 hours and the rest of the force (except the armored corps) within Layarteb or near Layarteb in 72 hours. We can also activate air defense battalions and what not.
We await your decision...
Across the ARSB, at numerous forts and military installations, the ARSB's military was mobilizing for possible action in the Layarteb-Dnalkrad conflict. Defensive Alert was placed at 3 for military mobilization and activation of select reserve units (on a scale of 1-7, one being the highest level). The 1st Expeditionary Fleet set sail for international waters with its Admiral Vinogradov-class medium carriers, numerous destroyers, cruisers, frigates, and its 1.21 class ballistic missile submarines and its assorted fleet of attack submarines.

The Emperor took out his pen and began writing. "To Unum Veritas High Commander...Please hold off on all air activity within Layarteb airspace...Incident almost occured, which would have resulted in accidental strikes against origin of naval aircraft...Sensors indicate possible hostile shipping within one hundred miles...Report convoy position over...END MESSAGE" The Emperor handed the message to the communications sergeant and dispatched him at the utmost urgency.
Over the battlefield, a UV F/A-18 had dropped cluster munitions accidentally on a friendly tank and prompted immediately reprisal. Layarteb soldiers were unaware Dnalkrad air activity was non-existent and prepared to fire until they saw it was an F/A-18. Dnalkrad is known to possess no F/A-18s at all. F-23s penetrating the airspace were picked up by the anti-stealth system and identified immediately but could have been shot down.
Another phone rang and the Emperor picked it up, being on the October Alliance secure line. "Sir...Yes we have a situation...No sir...No sir...We're doing just fine...No we do not need the help of the October Alliance at this time...Yes we understand...Well I feel that there are other focus' such as Northern Ireland, robotic invasions, etc...Yes sir we will remain available for assistance if an October Alliance member needs us...Yes sir...You too!"
He hung up the phone. I knew I forgot someting! All was quiet in the office and he looked over the latest striking sortie. It was 1930 on the second day of air strikes and of the countless targets, at least 40% of them were eradicated by now. The ICBM site held strong but they planned on taking that through special forces already deployed inside Dnalkrad. The big fun would be Dnalkrad City!

The destruction was terrible. Layarteb artillery and air support creamed the invasion force leaving the entire force dead, injured, or captured. It was not a plus. General Joubin hoped to have air support for them but the overwhelming destruction of the aircraft and airbases were far greater then he expected. Now it just rested on defending the capital (Dnalkrad City) and defending the ICBM base.
Bombings continued throughout the country and the general knew that the land invasion was next. He had his remaining ground forces broken into four divisions. Two defended Dnalkrad City and one each defending the ICBM base and the beachhead. The mining operations around Dnalkrad City, the ICBM base, and the beachhead were complete and throughout the lanes to each of the targets, mines were placed too. All-in-all there were over a million mines placed throughout Dnalkrad, ready for any aggressor. Now came the waiting!

The Seventh CBG, as requested, directed its attention to naval operations and left the actual takeover of Dnalkrad to Layarteb. The ships assumed a wider defensive position and prepared to increase their search activites for the enemy fleet.

The Emperor looked to the General of the Army and nodded his head, "General you have a green light. The sun is down and you may begin your attack. Air support will be available from the Air Force I imagine?"
The General of the Air Force nodded, "Yes sir. A-10s and F-15Es are airborne as we speak with rockets, bombs, and missiles for close-air support. F-15Cs and F-16Cs are available for air to air battles and I have reconnaissance aircraft up."
"Very well. I shall order the invasion. Rather early though. However, we have made significant progress, despite their sneak attack, which I must admit was well place but badly coordinated. Our destruction of their airfields was far more then they imagined I figure." The General of the Army said as he picked up the phone, "Commence Operation Border Breech."
"Yes it was," the Emperor smiled, "but apparently my counterpart does not anticipate the fact that I have been gentle towards him. This land invasion will be all but, I want full control of their entire country within fourteen days."
"Yes sir!" They both saluted and returned to their posts.
The Emperor smiled again as he looked over the final document plan for a small operation to be conducted by Force Falcon members already on the ground in Dnalkrad. The operation was highly classified, known to only those carrying it out and their command structure, and naturally the Emperor. They would infiltrate the only city in Dnalkrad that was completely self-sufficient, a town near the northern border called Kilomato City. It was home to 72,388 people. The operation called for contamination of the water supply with CAF as an experiment. A highly unknown black operation indeed but nonetheless, the best testing ground available.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
It was the third day, 0100. Air strikes had hit numerous targets over the night, primarily C&C and air defense sites with continual bombing of airport runways and such. All was quiet on the border where the 2nd Cavalry Division was staged with the full mass of 180 Humvees, 230 M1A2 Abrams', 120 M1B1 Abrams IIs, 120 M2A2 Bradleys, 200 M2A3 Bradleys, 200 M6 Bradley Linebackers, 110 M109A6 Paladins, 110 M109A7 Paladins, 280 M113A3 APCs, 110 M270 MLRSs, 120 Strykers, 900 Trucks, 1,400 other vehicles, 100 ST-09 NGBTs, and 100 ST-11 NGBTs as well as 480,000 soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Corps sat ready and willing.
The Division commander picked up his phone upon it ringing and acknowledged the start of Operation Border Breech. Artillery was ready and loaded, awaiting the order. The sound of helicopters and aircraft overhead was unmistakable. AH-64s and AH-66s along with A-10s, F-15Es, F-15Cs, and F-16Cs were flying support. It was still quiet in the staging area, despite the commotion of people getting ready and tanks being readied. Then the silence was blasted apart by the sound of artillery. The black, night sky glowed as, all at once, the 220 Paladins launched their 155MM projectiles. M109A7s were patched into satellites giving them clear, up-to-the-second information through thermal scans and movement scans. Faint traces of heat were detected along a line seven miles into Dnalkrad territory. The coordinates were sent throughout the lines and the Paladins opened up. MLRS batteries loaded and fired their M26, M30, and M39 missiles towards the enemy. Apaches and Commanches already in enemy territory used their night vision goggles and infra-red sensors to detect enemy forces and fired at will.
What they were firing at had to be a forward line of troops because they were reporting secondaries left and right. The artillery was hitting something and it was not friendly.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Six teams of Delta Special Forces soldiers were approaching the ICBM base. All was quiet except for the sounds of soldiers on patrol and anti-aircraft guns letting loose on high-flying aircraft. Fighters and bombers were up in the air now raining havoc down on enemy positions. In particular, if need be, the Special Forces teams could call in F-111s and F-15Es to drop GBU-24s, GBU-28s, and GBU-35s onto the ICBM base. It had already been damaged by a strike from Unum Veritas cruise missiles but barely enough to disrupt any operations. ZSU-23 AAA guns and SA-13 and SA-15 SAMs still surrounded the facility to protect it against attack but any attacks done by F-15Es or F-111s would be done from high altitude.
Their mission was simple, scout the base, surround the perimeter, and attack when the time was right. The lanes over the ICBM base were frequented by F/A-22s, F-111s, F-15Es, and F-15Cs so it was not imperitive that they strike the base immediately. Command told them that the idea of a launch was highly remote and therefore nothing they had to do immediately. The key was intelligence!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Near Kilomato City, eight men, all dressed in black, approached the water processing facility. They were unseen and with their night vision they could see enemy soldiers patrolling and guarding the facility. They were equipped with MP5SD5 SMGs, M4A1 Carbines, and one had an M24 bolt-action rifle. All weapons were given suppressors and in the case of the MP5, a built-in silencer. Stealth was key.
Intel estimated between twenty-five and sixty-eight enemy soldiers at the water processing facility, including two high-ranking officials. All those killed were to be immediately hidden and disposed of, and if at all possible, take the commanders into custody.
The sniper crawled through the grass seven hundred yards away from the site with the other seven nearby. His spotter kept a close watch on the surroundings. With the bipod down and six rounds ready in the rifle (five in the magazine and one in the chamber) he surveyed the targets, adjusted for windage, and fired. His sounds were muffled by the suppressor as well as the muzzle flash. His bullet scored a kill and he reloaded, aiming again. The sniper did such in an orderly fashion until all eight perimeter guards were killed. Then it was show-time. The bodies were dragged into the field and thrown in a ditch, freshly dug by irrigation workers not more then two days prior. The elite black operations team had observed them digging the ditch.
Then it was to the facility. They only had to get into the return pools where they could dump the package. Each carried a canister of CAF with enough powdered substance to eradicate a population twice that of the city.
With skill they swept through the facility, killing another seventeen guards before reaching the return pools. Eight canisters were dumped into the water and they exited, having to take out another four along the way. That gave them a total of twenty-nine kills for the whole time. Bodies were all dragged clear and hidden. The facility was open, for the most part, and it provided them with ease to dispose of the bodies on the outside. They used mops and towels handy to clean up the blood and drag marks and were gone before anyone knew it.
Bodies were all taken to the ditch and buried deeply. The ditch was then redug very quickly so that it appeared to be untouched. They carried dirt patchs with grass from elsewhere in the field and place it over the grave and were done with the matter. By daybreak they were just leaving the area, completely undetected, their mission complete.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Imperial Layarteb Air Force had complete control over the skies. Fighters sent up now had no targets to shoot down and ground-attack aircraft had little to worry about except for the occassional MANPAD, of which they had lost a few more planes. Six F-16Cs and nine F-15Es went down to IR SAMs and over Dnalkrad City they lost four A-10As and a B-52H Stratofortress, taken down by AAA fire and an active SA-11 site.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
One hundred miles off the coast, the Nineth Fleet, all alone with its 4 Enterprise CVBGs hunted for the enemy fleet. Submarines lost the track of the fleet around 1750 on Day 2 and now it was nowhere to be found. It was originally thought to be heading south and then would head to Layarteb to commence shore attacks but that did not seem the case. Satellites had been readjusted and nothing was to be found at all. Something was NOT right!

OOC: Yes sorry for my absence as well. Ahh weekends :)
The air defense net of Dnalkrad was so badly beaten into the ground that all fixed sites were destroyed and only a handful of launchers were available. Along the border, artillery rained down on positions killing over 40,000 soldiers and destroying 308 2S65s, 400 2S19s, 30 BM-21s, 30 BM-27s, 30 BM-30s, 200 BTR-80s, 100 T-90s, and 400 trucks. The forward line was breeched and General Joubin knew that it was critical he hold the ICBM base, the beachhead, and Dnalkrad City. Layarteb was on their way and without reconnaissance he could not tell how much and how fast was coming but he knew that it was certainly a division or more of tanks and at least an entire Corps of infantry.
Aircraft bombed C&C and air defenses positions all throughout the second day and into the morning of the third day. Close air support operations were going on along the border and weapons storage sites were being slowly picked off one-by-one. The power grid was completely destroyed, the last powerplant going the way of the wind around 0530.
General Joubin still had two surprises in his sleeves. His fleet had sailed way out to sea where satellites would not look and everytime they expected a pass, they stopped dead in the water and drifted, all hands below decks, and using a special scrambling device that they developed with foreign assistance, created an essential blanket around the fleet. The scrambling device essentially converted light around the fleet to make it look like plain water and thermal imaging was the only true way to break through it and so far nothing had been detected by Layarteb, that they knew. If they had, the whole fleet would be sunk. Their plan was to travel to the southern coast of Layarteb and begin air attacks immediately. They were making their way slowly and had shaken some submarines shadowing the fleet by stopping dead in the water and activating scrambling systems. When the submarines came up to periscope they saw nothing.
His other "ACE" was the EMP satellite, being positioned over Layarteb City. The city was NOT EMP shielded except for the most sensitive targets. But, General Joubin was at odds where he wanted to use the weapon. He could knock out Layarteb City but he'd harm more civilian then military or he could hit a military target, a major one, such as an airbase. Aircraft were not EMP shielded. It was a decision he had to make.
The General also initiated a program at his only ICBM base. The program essentially allowed the twenty SS-18 missiles to be launched without his approval. But, this system would only go inactive if he died. A specialized system was surgically implanted into him and relied on his pulse. If it stopped for more then four minutes, the system would become active and within thirty minutes, all twenty missiles would fire at their respective targets.

Layarteb forces made a brutal advance northward toward the capital city of Dnalkrad City. Reports coming from forward lines reported clear roads ahead with no enemy presence. Minesweepers were running far ahead, clearing the roads of mines and trying to detect them. Intelligence research on General Joubin showed that, during his tenure as General of the Army, he had stockpiled tens of thousands of M16 anti-personnel mines and M19 and M21 anti-tank mines. There was a good chance that they would be used to defend the routes to Dnalkrad City and from the beachhead, though no front was planned through the beachhead. Those forces would be taken care of by naval aircraft as the fleet sailed one hundred miles from the coast. The few reported anti-ship batteries on the coast were destroyed, six Styx sites that were destroyed the second night with bombs from F-111s and F-117s.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Each Enterprise class carrier was brand new. They came with a price tag of $15B and there were eight of them in the Layarteb Navy, four in the Nineth Fleet and four in the Tenth Fleet. Each of them was their own carrier battle group with escorts and aircraft galore. Each carrier was a whopping 1,400 feet long, nearly approaching the length that would make it unfeasible to operate. They displaced a total of 153,000 tons and with their nuclear reactors and extra propulsion systems they could get the ship up to 35 knots. They each could carry 128 aircraft with a maximum aircraft weight of 120,000 lb. versus 80,000 with the Improved Nimitz Class. For self defense, they each had 2 Mk 41 V-Cell systems with 128 cells for 44 RIM-66M Standard SM-2MR, 44 RIM-156A Standard SM-2ER Block IV, 20 RIM-161A Standard SM-3 LEAP, and 20 RUM-139C ASROC. They were also equipped with 8 Mk 15 Mod 2 Phalanx CIWS with 15,500 rounds per weapon, 4 Mk 141 Harpoon Launchers with 16 RGM-84A Harpoon missiles, and 6 RIM-116 mounts with 126 missiles.
Loaded on each Enterprise were 4 C-2A Greyhound CODs, 4 E-2C Hawkeyes, 4 EA-6B Prowlers, 4 EA-18A Growlers, 4 ES-3A Shadows, 12 F-14D Tomcats, 18 F/A-18C Hornets, 18 F/A-18E Hornets, 10 F-19B Ghostriders, 10 F/A-22N Raptors, 10 F-24B Knightowls, 16 F-26B Typhoons, 2 HH-60H Seahawks, 8 S-3B Vikings, and 4 SH-60F Seahawks. The F-19s and F-24s were specially built fighters for the Air Force that were navalized upon request. F/A-22Ns were swing-wing F/A-22s and F-26Bs were indigenously produced Eurofighter Typhoons with carrier capability, the F-26A being the Air Force variant.
Two of the Enterprises dedicated their aircraft to fleet protection while the other two now concentrated on striking Dnalkrad. F-19Bs and F-24Bs operated at night, flying sorties deep into Dnalkrad City and other high value targets still around dropping JDAMs and using cruise missiles. F/A-18Cs and F/A-18Es joined F-26Bs in attacking armor, artillery, and other ground units on the beachhead. F-14Ds were dedicated to air cover along with F/A-22Ns while EA-18As and EA-6Bs escorted fighters around Dnalkrad. E-2Cs provided eyes to all fighters and ES-3As along with dedicated Hornet missions performed BDA and reconnaissance. All-in-all, there were, at any given time, six hundred aircraft in the air between the Navy and the Air Force with an additional hundred at minimal of helicopters. Support aircraft were flying continuous sorties refueling aircraft, gathering reconnaissance, and providing intelligence. It was Shock & Awe to the max!
Naval aircraft pounded armored positions with Mavericks, cluster bombs, rockets, dumb bombs, laser guided bombs, Brimstones, and their own cannons throughout the night and into the day, hitting the armor and artillery protecting the beachhead. The aim was to give the illusion of a second front being opened up so General Joubin would move his armor from the city and try to protect the beachhead. There was no guarantee that he would take the bait.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Special Forces outside the ICBM base failed to report in sir." The General of the Special Forces informed the Emperor. "We haven't heard from them in over three hours sir."
"Could the unit be comprimised?" The Emperor asked.
"I doubt it sir. They didn't call for any air support or such. It is possible their radio equipment is damaged or that they have been captured and/or killed. However, it is custom that if they are engaged to report their position immediately, unless of course the radio went right away!"
"We'll have to do what we can. Can you get another team around there to investigate?"
"We already have one on the way sir. A six-man team from the 3rd Black Operations Division "Spectre Force" on their way right now sir."
"Very well. General, what is the status of the Air Force?"
"Well sir we lost an F-111F to a malfunction we believe. The crew has been recovered and is on their way back to Layarteb via UH-60L Blackhawk. However, we did lose another F-15E to unknown reasons and we suspect the crew has been taken prisoner. All-in-all that would make a total of seventy missing airmen that are not confirmed alive or dead. We suspect that they are POWs. Along with the," he looked at the General of the Army, "how many?"
"Two thousand, six hundred, and seventy-seven. For a total of twenty-seven hundred and forty-seven."
"Yes twenty-seven hundred and forty-seven prisoners of war in Dnalkrad custody. I imagine that number will exceed three thousand by the time this conflict is over. Our biggest threat are those infra-red SAMs on SA-9s, SA-13s, and MANPADs. 2S6Ms and SA-15s are accounting for a lot of launches but not a lot of hits and usually they are detected and destroyed along with Shilkas and Sparkas. As far as flak goes, we haven't seen much during the night at all but during the day, over Dnalkrad City it is very thick. We estimate that of the two thousand something anti-aircraft units at least half of them are concentrated within Dnalkrad City as well as half of the mobile SAM units. The best way to get them is to keep bombing them to nothing but I guarantee that of that half we're going to have to take out as many as sixty percent with ground forces. There is just too much civilian clutter down there and we don't want to hit many of the targets around these units, which are mostly schools, churches, day care centers, you know the normal trickery used."
"Yes I am well aware. That sounds fine to me. We'll get the 3rd Cavalry Division to come up on the rear of the 2nd and sweep east and come around to hit the city from an easterly direction. We can move the 4th Cavalry Division up to the rear and keep them on the border, just in case. Leave the 5th Cavalry Division mobilized but not in an offensive or defense position. You know?"
"Yes sir." The General of the Army stood as the Emperor moved his hands over the map and showed positions.
"Now the Navy is here. They're attacking beachhead positions and other targets. We can move in some of the Layarteb BBs and have them shell the coastline. I know the captains of those ships want some targets and we have a whole slew of targets concerning the navy that hasn't been hit yet. Communicate the following targets to your fleet Admiral." The Emperor swept his hand over the coastline and further inland for at least a hundred to three hundred targets, one including a highway that could be used for air operations. Intelligence showed missing Su-33s on the last pass and this would be the most likely destination for them to operate from.
"Other then that gentlemen, you are all doing a fine, fine job. Keep it up. Report back to me in the next hour and we'll go from there. I want detailed progress reports. In the meantime, I'm going to call General Joubin in his 'bunker,'" the Emperor laughed, "and see if he wants to surrender."

The Emperor, before picking up the phone to contact General Joubin, called in the Unum Veritas representative. He had a map laid out and had positions marked. "Admiral. Sorry to bother your sleep but I must convey an important message to your fleet."
"Yes sir. Anything you have I can relay immediately."
"Well. Our submarines picked up faint mechanical noises around this quadrant." He pointed to a position on the map roughly three hundred miles south of Layarteb. "I suspect that somehow, the Dnalkrad Fleet managed to sneak down south and is heading north to attack. I cannot figure out how or how they are evading our satellites or submarines. My guess is that they actually have developed a first generation cloaking device for naval vessels. Intelligence reports an unknown foreign nation having the power and having a strong relationship with Dnalkrad but we cannot be sure of this and we did not pay much attention to the intelligence data when it was introduced because it seemed too unrealistic. However, I believe we have may misjudged the situation."
"Yes sir. It sounds possible. What do you have in mind?"
"Well I am sending my Tenth Fleet out to Northern Ireland to assist a friendly nation and my other fleets are on normal patrol or in port. I can sortie the 1st Fleet but I'd rather not. Is there anyway you can position your fleet down here and search for the enemy battlegroup and/or destroy it?"
The Admiral stood there surveying the maps and looking at his hand written piece of paper telling exactly what was on the fleet:

If these numbers of the enemy group are correct then I'm going to need more ships Fleet Admiral Camsley thought to herself aboard the 7th CBG's command ship, the UVS Thibodeaux. She then turned to her chief aide and said,
"Get in touch with High Command see what we can get to reinforce us."
"Yes ma'am," the aide said before jogging down to a communications nexus and commandeering a satellite phone. Five minutes he returned,
"Admiral, the Third CBG is en route as well as a supplement from Sub Squadron 32 and Destroyer Squadron 13," the aide reported, "They should be in our vicinity by the end of the day."
"Very good, now we've got enough firepower to deal with Dnalkrad's fleet. Move our own subs forward and get a forward air patrol going. Send a detachment of surface warfare ships twenty clicks to our east and have them search aggressively. I don't want to be caught offguard by the Dnalkrads."
"Aye, Admiral."

The Emperor looked at the graphical map and saw the Unum Veritas fleet and its location. Satellite passes had confirmed its location and estimates showed the possible location of the Dnalkrad Fleet, approximately four hundred miles south of Layarteb. A naval flurry would most likely erupt within hours!

The Dnalkrad fleet steamed ahead at seven knots. The fleet was spread out for combat formation but close enough to hide thier own tracks. Advanced propulsion systems and shrouds kept ship wakes non-existent under thirteen knots and created small wakes above that. Anything over twenty was easily noticible.
The fleet had no sensors on and listened and watched only passively. They saw nothing though, nothing was out there with active sensors. The active sensors from the mainland were barely detectable over the horizon and they used old plotting methods to determine just where they were.
General Joubin knew exactly where the fleet was. Communications were being sent so well that they knew that they would not be intercepted by Layarteb intelligence services. They were some of the best and to defeat the best they had to think like them. General Joubin made that mistake already with the embassy and he would not repeat it.
Reports came in from all across Dnalkrad. The division of tanks on the beachhead was taking such a heavy beating that the liklihood of a second front from the beachhead seemed very possible. Reports from some spies confirmed that a large number of LCACs were missing from the docks, which would mean only one thing.
Other reports came in that there were a little over twenty-seven hundred POWs taken already, including a special forces team outisde the ICBM base. Defense still relied upon the the capital.

The third day was becoming the third night. Over Dnalkrad, the sun was setting in the west and operations would increase ten fold. The 3rd Cavalry Division had gone already, heading through the northern edgs of Dnalkrad to attack the city from the east and the north. The 2nd Cavalry Division was already half way there. From the 3rd CD, a group would secure Hubarbia City. It was a small group as resistance was expected to be minimum. Special Forces would detact from Strykers as well as regular forces and secure the ICBM base. The 2nd CD would also send a small group to secure Hubarbia City while the rest went on to Dnalkrad City and hit it from the west. They would also hit it from the south.
The plan was going along well. Resistance was at a bare minimum. The 4th CD was already on the border just in case and if needed they could detach and attack leaving the 5th CD to defend Layarteb. The Emperor agreed that it was time for a 6th Cavalry Division and possibly a 7th and 8th.
Naval aircraft using missiles and bombs had virtually destroyed every tank, soldier, APC, IFV, truck, and vehicle on the beachhead. Now they were concentrating on the naval base. A highway with a straight run of roughly three miles was being targetted. Reports that naval Su-33s would use the highway to provide some air cover were strong and the situation was being handled. Attacks against Dnalkrad City air defenses continued as well as against command and control targets.
An F-15C had been lost when a previously thought destroyed SA-6 site became operational and caught the pilot off guard. There was no ejection chute seen. An F-16CJ on patrol eliminated the SA-6 site shortly after the missile launch distress call had been sent out by the F-15C pilot.
By 2000, on the third day, the 2nd Cavalry Division was at the outskirts of Dnalkrad City. A small detachment linked up with another small one from the 3rd Cavalry Division and were securing Hubarbia City. Resistance was reported at low. A few tanks and APCs were destroyed but, for the most part, the city was empty as a curfew and Marshall Law were in place. Dnalkrad Special Forces and resistance fighters had little ground and found themselves cut off from their base of operations, leaving them in the city alone, with what they had.
By 2020, the 3rd Cavalry Division reached the outskirts of Dnalkrad City, hitting from the north and from the east. Resistance was beyond heavy in all regions. Initial assaults were put on hold as artillery and mortar fire, as well as sniper and tank fire, erupted from the city. With a population of 14.58M, the city was large and had extensive places for enemy tanks to hide.

OOC: About time you did the map. I've been waiting!
The Dnalkradian Fleet maintained its northerly course, all Su-33s being prepared to fly strike missions within Layarteb. The main target was Layarteb City. Of the 28 Su-33s they would fly 12 to Layarteb City with various munitions to strike targets. The remaining 16 would provide CAP. All Su-33s would ingress at well below radar height and very fast as well.
The POWs were being kept in several places throughout Dnalkrad City. One particular location was the Siphon Guard Prison, a nortorious prison built by the communist regime. Harold Hartley used it to keep political prisoners and the most vile of criminals. The prison was a brutal place near the western edge of Dnalkrad City. It was heavily protected by armor and vehicles and guards. It had a small runway allowing Mi-24s, Ka-50s, Mi-8s, and Mi-17s to operate from. Strikes against the facility were not effective yet as it had extensive underground facilities where the helicopters were stored. They would be used against attacking Layarteb forces.
Intensive air strikes along the beachhead left virtually nothing left intact. Layarteb Hornets and Typhoons swept through with brute force. Repeated attempts to down them with IR SAMs and MANPADs all failed as well as AAA.
A pair of highway strips, each three miles long in a straight, flat path were being used for air operations soon. Forty Su-33s were placed at each strip. Layarteb knew of one, they could be sure of that because they had begun bombing it with MK-82s. The other, in the far north of the country was unknown to them and the forty Su-33s were being prepared for operations against Layarteb bombers and fighters.
With night fallen and the sound of artillery and explosions all around the edges of the city, General Joubin sat in his bunker, barely sleeping at all. It seemed that everytime he went to sleep, the bunker shook from a nearby explosion. Layarteb artillery on the outskirts of the city was shelling the city heavily. Most of the civilian population had been ordered to seek shelter in special bunkers in the city.
Repairs were underway at Dnalkrad IAP as well as all other runways with aircraft still in tact, which were Baker AFB and Parkdale AFB as well. The hope was to get Tu-160, Tu-22, and Su-24 bombers aloft with enough firepower to strike Layarteb City with cruise missiles and free-fall bombs. Though Layarteb owned the skies, a distraction could provide them with the ability to sneak in under the radar and bomb Layarteb City. That was the general's plan and he was sticking to it!

OOC-Okay, I'm envisioning my ships off the southern end of Layarteb, with the Dnalkradian ships further south and moving north, is that about right?
"Admiral Camsley, the reinforcements have arrived, our IFF transponders picked them up about five minutes ago and they're being flagged to come in closer."
"Good, get orders to the subs to execute Operation Beartrap. Order the 3rd CBG to loop around 50 miles and then start heading back towards us. Hopefully we can catch the Dnalkrads in between us. Also, post the destroyers off to port, halfway in between us and where the 3rd CBG will be. Let's get some more fighters aloft and send some corvettes and patrol boats out...wait, better yet, send out a Sea Shadow or two to find the enemy." Camsley ordered.
"But ma'am, the Shadows aren't equipped for ELINT," her aide protested.
"I know, they may not be able to get the enemy on radar, but the enemy sure as hell can't get them either and they stand a chance of stumbling into Dnalkrad's forces," Camsley retorted in a don't-argue-with-me tone.
"Aye ma'am," the aide said cooperatively before turning to various other officers and relaying orders to them. The various LA, Seawolf, and VA class fast-attack subs moved into their new positions, now augmented by the vessels from Submarine Squadron 32. Operation Beartrap had begun.
The new destroyers, Zumwalts, DD(X)'s, Arleigh Burkes, and Ticonderoga cruisers, made their way to their new positions as well, effectively forming a triangle around the suspected position of the Dnalkrad fleet. The enemy could be anywhere inside this triangle and still not quite be within attack range of the interior of Layarteb. Hopefully coastal towns had already been evacuated, but that was not Camsley's responsibility; her's was the destruction of the enemy ships. She now had two Nimitz carriers and two Elessar supercarriers under her command as well as countless AA, AEGIS, and ASW ships for defense and battery. The 3rd CBG's commander knew he had to take orders from her, although he probably didn't like it, and his group was slowly complying to her rerouting orders.
Camsley glanced out of the bridge's windows as two F-14E Ultra Tomcats screamed off the catapults of the closest carrier. She also smiled to herself as a transport ship slowly opened its rear launch bay and two Sea Shadows crept out and headed south. The 3rd CBG has also been ordered to put a few ELINT aircraft aloft to sniff for any sign of Dnalkrad's ships. Camsley knew they wouldn't wait for very long before attacking Layarteb and that they probably wouldn't even bother with her ships if they didn't have to.
Well, she thought to herself, they won't have much of a choice in that...

The fleet slowed down to three knots, thereby making its stealthability increase by four hundred fold. Passive sensors detected nothing except the land radars and missile systems along the Layarteb coast. They had gotten some word that 18" gun batteries on the coast, with a range of thirty miles were online and ready to strike against any fleet invading the territory.
Around Dnalkrad City, defensive positions were holding strong thus far. They were taking HEAVY casualties but had not lost ground yet. Luckily, they were only fighting land divisions. Helicopters remained on the ground. Su-33s at the first highway strip were destroyed, along with the highway strip but at the second, they had thus remained undetected. They had also not been used. The plan was to use them during the night attacks on the night of Day 3 and into the morning of Day 4. They would be used to try to shoot down bombers and attacking helicopters.
General Joubin was more overworked then ever. The constant bombardment resulted in most of his C3I grid being offline. Reports came in that Hubarbia City was under Layarteb control as was the ICBM base. The border town of Kilomato City, which was far from Layarteb influence reported 99% of its population dead in most horrific ways but there was no traceable cause. Something was amiss. Had Layarteb used some sort of chemical weapon or biological?
The General paced, mulling the issue over and over. What the hell happened? I know it was Layarteb. That damn Emperor and his paranoia and his weapons. He turned to the chief of special investigations, essentially the CIA chief, "What the hell happened over there?"
The chief turned from the chart of data on the table, rather the charts. There were over three hundred pages on the table, spread out like a tornado came through. "Sir, I have no idea. I can tell you it was not natural causes. I don't suspect chemical weaponry because we have sensors in place in major cities and such for detection. We suspected that they might use them so we employed them where it would be most effective to detect them. They read nothing."
"Could they have used some sort of untracable agent?"
"No sir. If it isn't a composition of natural air being nitrogen, oxygen, et cetera it would have been detected. Hell pollution even registers."
"So then what. Biological maybe?"
"Possibly but there is no trace of anything everywhere. Not even in the dead people. Ninety-nine percent is dead. No trace of anything. Sir I don't know what it is."
"It could be something else. Something new." The head of the spy agency, which carried no name except for the investigation directorate. "This is classified information. Possiblity exists that our friends over in the Layarteb military have devised a new biological weapon that has the ability to kill so quickly and so effectively that it makes Ebola look like the common cold. However, we suspect that they found a way for this virus or bacteria, whichever, to automatically kill itself after its host dies. We cannot prove anything but we suspect that it is named 'CAF' we have heard references to it but know not what it stands for."
"How positive is this information?" The General asked.
"Well I'd bet 80% on that it exists but about 2% on the details of it."
"Okay so we're looking at something so new we can't fight it? They wouldn't use that against Dnalkrad City would they?"
"Doubtful. I imagine this was just a battlefield experiment or test. Using it against a city like this would be counter-productive. They do want population left after this war is over. I mean I guarantee they want to colonize this place for their own benefit."
"Yes they do." The General took out a notepad. "I spoke with the Emperor the other day. He asked that we stop this 'silly' war, as I quote, and surrender so that Dnalkrad may be one with Layarteb. In that he did say that they would stop at nothing if we did not surrender to seize all of us and imprison us for starting this war."
"What is your plan General?"
"We can win. We can hold down this city!"
"Good then we will. We have only two divisions left within the city and we're down to 60% effectiveness overall."
"We're going to have to defeat them with guerilla warfare you realize that. Once they get drawn into the city we're going to have to use small teams to knock them out left and right to defeat them."
"Yes sir!"

"Sir," the Emperor turned to see the Admiral standing there, sweating bullets, "active sensors are picking something up to our south, closing in slowly at now three hundred and seventy-eight miles. I think it's the Dnalkrad Fleet. The Unum fleet is here," he pointed to a spot on the map, "so they're going to meet them first."
"What assets are readied?"
"Sir we have two carrier air wings sitting ready with enough firepower to sink a fleet twice the size of that of Unum Veritas so the Dnalkrad Fleet is nothing. The plan is that we will remain on standby. Unum Veritas has the green light on this operation and we will not step on their toes unless asked or unless we are directly attacked."
"Good. What of the rest of the fleet outside Dnalkrad?"
"Operations are continuing into the night. The beachhead is gone so we're concentrating our efforts to close air support in Dnalkrad City. There are still two divisions there and the remainder of the standing army. We have intelligence that suggests those navalized Su-33s that they had and destroyed are somewhere else. They had two hundred and twenty. Forty were destroyed leaving one hundred and eighty. Twenty-eight are aboard the Kuznetsov. That leaves one hundred and fifty-two. We can't find any of them!"
"That is a problem. What has reconnaissance found?" He turned to the General of the Air Force.
"Nothing sir. They represent a problem for us. They are armed with advanced Archer and Adder missiles as well as can carry modified cruise missiles. They cannot stop us but they can severely damage our control of the situation."
"Very well. Double fighter coverage. I want Eagles, Raptors, Knightowls, everything! If one takes off destroy it and the place it took off from. Get cruise missiles with bomblets readied for strikes. Cluster munitions are key to taking out these facilities. I suspect they are flying from highways or other modified strips."
"Very well."
"General," he turned to the General of the Army, "status update?"
"Well sir, the enemy is operating two divisions at between fifty and sixty-five percent effectiveness. In addition we suspect that the remainder of the army is in Dnalkrad City putting roughly eight hundred thousand to one point two million soldiers within Dnalkrad City and we don't have that much there. We know they plan to use guerilla tactics and as we get closer to the center of the city the battle will grow exponentially more severe and difficult. It's not going to be pretty, we're definitely going to need air support and lots of it. Air support from helicopters, navy, and air force."
"Granted. All shall be provided for. Now if you'll all leave please I'd like to see the General of Special Forces alone." They left immediately. "General, how was the experiment in Kilomato City?"
"Ninety-nine percent fatality rate of the population. No trace found. Our team found nothing."
"Very well. I am pleased. Where is Force Falcon now?"
"Within Dnalkrad City. They are on the search for the General. There are seventeen sites to check."
"And he is one of them?"
"Without a doubt he is in one of them. Which one I cannot be sure. He is using very secure means of communicating with his forces so we're not going to intercept anything. Cryptology can't even figure out if anything is pertinent."
"Very well. Keep them on it and we'll decide what to do about it later."
"Yes sir." His office was empty and he sat there in his command center. It was a bunker beneath Layarteb City, much alike to that of General Joubin but it was far different. It was much more technologically advanced. It was, afterall, the central control center for all Layarteb wartime operations. It spanned more square feet then a large airport. It was huge, extensive with many levels starting at one hundred feet underground and down to two hundred and sixty-five. It was built with reinforced concrete in such a way that even small diameter JDAMs would have difficulty penetrating the bunker. Nonetheless, it was the best place to be in the evident of a Dnalkrad attack. It wouldn't be a successful one but without a doubt, it would probably be massive in the sense of scale just not accurate. If General Joubin got down to the final hour and could control just one of his nuclear missiles, he could, most likely, launch one and put it in the heart of Layarteb City, though the anti-ballistic missile defense system would probably shoot it down.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The second and third cavalry divisions were putting hurt onto the city. Their artillery was already turning buildings into rubble. Most of it had been evacuated following the start of the invasion. It was estimated that less then two hundred thousand civilians were still in the city. Any that were, were huddled into shelters and bunkers. Artillery lit up the night sky from positions just outside the front lines. Paladins and MLRS units sitting behind the front lines, in protected zones with air defense forces were firing away religiously. Supply lines were running thick and strong still with plenty of supplies coming in, especially armament.
Missiles were being held off but 155MM fire from the Paladins were going constantly. The city was being decimated. Abrams and other units advancing forward had finally started to move. They were going through the streets and the allies with infantry support and sniper support. But they were still no where near the center nor even the city. They were still on the outskirts. Smoke and haze covered the city with fires burning in various places from artillery.
Brigadier General Jerry Markins, leading the 3rd Cavalry Division, was commanding the battle from his Stryker command vehicle, communicating to the lieutenant colonels who were leading the tank battalions and such. They were reporting mild losses, a tank here and there, soldiers more then tanks from sniper and mortar fire, and so on and so fourth. Infantry units riding with the tanks were doing a superb job. They were armed to the teeth with ammunition and equipment. They walked with the tanks to ensure that enemy fire from rocket propelled grenades and other attacks did not occur. All-in-all, they had lost forty Abrams' and four ST-09s. That was if for battle tank losses. As for fighting vehicles, APCs, and trucks, the losses were higher but not nearly as high as they could have been. Of the roughly nine hundred thousand friendly soldiers fighting with the cavalry divisions they had taken roughly sixty-eight hundred fatalities with an additional fourteen thousand and change injured. Those forces that went to the ICBM base, Hubarbia City, and other places left a total of five hundred thousand for the advance into Dnalkrad City. All but eighteen casualties were taken there. The morning of the fourth day was as any other had been for the soldiers. It was just another day they were still alive. Collectively they had moved three miles into the city, finally reaching the main city line but still ten miles from the center. Their push would be slowed as the enemy forces bunched up and collectively aimed and fought.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Aircraft kept the skies free of everything. Bombers and fighter bombers came in with guided weapons and iron bombs, dropping on enemy positions in Layarteb City. At any given time there were over a thousand aircraft in the air with more then half of them being used for close air support. The rest were providing fighter coverage, C3I, and support. Predators provided real time updates on the battle and satellites showed action as it occurred. It was, perhaps, the fastest moving battle in Layarteb history. After all, it was only the start of the fourth day and already they were in the capital with complete and utter control over the skies and everything surrounding the city.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Deep within Dnalkrad City, the elite Force Falcon team of eight soldiers led by COL. Delaney. They were proceeding to the first site, which was interconnected with another four. This made up the first five sites. They had enough ammunition between the lot of them to take out an enemy force of three thousand. The odds of them surviving against three thousand, no matter how well trained they were. They were using their advanced night vision systems, newly developed. They were like sunglasses, actually fitted into Oakley's and ran to a special control system on their body, powered by body heat. When deactivated, the glasses would be just as any other. Unfortunately they ran at $10,000 a system. But there was a massive advantage over previous night vision systems. First of all, they provided increased range, up to two thousand meters with little starlight. Secondly, they offered magnification zoom. Thirdly, they were the most advanced, modern system out there. But then again, they were only used by Force Falcon and by Layarteb.
They entered the bunker via a air hatch and climbed down a ladder to the main ventilation systems. They climbed down, weapons in hand and progressed through the system into the main stairwell. The place seemed empty. There was minor lighting on, nothing significant and they kept their night vision goggles on, just adjusted them to a low level of false light. This enabled them to moved securely through the facility without being blinded by the lights. They were simply filtered out. They reached the first level in this three level complex and progressed through rooms but they were all empty. They progressed to the second level, it was empty. The third was the same. The next three sites were the same. Finally, in site 5, they encountered a small force of elite enemy commandos, which were quickly dispatched. The next set of sites would be reached the following day as it was not breaking daylight on the fourth day of this war.

Throughout the fourth day there was no progress. Aircraft and helicopters bombed the hell out of enemy positions and artillery had ceased around the city as intelligence was dwindling and units moved up collectively though the push was slowed. Terrible fog engulfed the city on the morning after dawn and stuck around until around 1300.
Tanks and infantry fighting vehicles moved up slowly making about a mile progress, nothing to be counted as a lot. They had lost around a hundred soldiers that day already and going into the night of day 5, a terrible thunderstorm began to engulf Dnalkrad. Air operations were suspended it was so bad. Helicopters were the only aircraft in the air and in very limited numbers. Not many of them were able to operate, only the advanced Commanche's and some Black Hawks. It slowed down the offensive greatly.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
But, with the horrible weather come a major problem. A special forces group, numbering three hundred Rangers came under heavy fire from a similiar Dnalkrad group thirty-eight miles north west of Hubarbia City.
The rain kept the battlefield soaked in water so that the blood of the killed ran free. They were facing between two thousand and three thousand elite enemy paratroopers it seemed. The enemy rolled in with BMP and BTR IFVs and APCs from two sides, cutting off friendly forces such that they were forced back to their small meeting camp, where they had several 81MM mortars set up. They had limited ammunition and supplies though, enough for three days in the field.
Commanding the group was LTC. Moore. A career Ranger, he had served during the war with Tnemrot over Freedom Island and also in the Smolny Civil War. The initial fighting started around 1600 on Day 5, while they were in transit to Dnalkrad City. The very small convoy consisted of a pair of M1A2 Abrams', six M3A2 Bradleys, twenty Stryker LAVs, and ten trucks. The ambush was well set up and destroyed one truck and seriously damaged the Strykers. It was a small blast that, from the looks of it, failed to be full spread, but still managed to alert the tanks. Immediately, the M1A2s trained their guns on a BMP-2 IFV and two T-80U MBTs. The fire from the M1A2s blasted them immediately.
But it had only just begun. With their night vision, as the rain stopped they could clearly see that a bridge not more then half a mile in front of them was completely out, having been blown up by a JDAM bomb on the second night of attacks. They dismounted as mortar fire came inbound and that is when all went amiss. Enemy fire qualrupled in nearly thirty seconds with bullets, mortar, and grenade fire coming in bound from nearly all angles. As the M1A2s were preparing to fire again at what seemed to be a front line of troops heading towards them, they erupted in massive fireballs. The enemy had something cooking and it was in the sound of aircraft.
Initial casualties were reported as thirty-five. As the Rangers hunkered down, they returned fire themselves, not much being around to engage as the enemy was well hidden.
LTC. Moore, in the midst of the battle looked to his radioman and reached for the radio, firing still at enemy positions in trees. "Central Command this is Lieutenant Colonel Moore. Report heavy fighting at my position. Unknown number of enemies with air support. Over."
Static filled the air waves for a few seconds until he repeated what he had said again, finally recieving a reply, "Lieutenant Colonel this is Central Command. Report location and estimated force size. Over?"
"Unknown number of enemies. We're near bridge 7748 but the bridge is out sir. Over/"
"Verify code orders. Over."
"Alpha-Charlie-9-2-2-3-6-5-1. Over."
"Verifying. Over."
Three minutes passed with nothing. Mortar fire was exchanged further and gunfire was continually exchanged. "Central Command what the hell are you doing over there. Over!"
"Wait one. Over."
"One. I've waited too long as it is. My men are dying out here we have no support, no cover, and are outnumbered I can assure you of that. Over."
"Verification confirmed. Estimated time of arrival for air support at seventeen minutes sir. We're scrambling F-15Cs and A-10s to your position now. Do what you can. Over."
"Roger that. Over." The sound of passing jets was deafening though they could see nothing.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Over Dnalkrad, as the thunderstorm had subsided, for the most part, air operations resumed. F-15Cs, F-15Es, and F-16Cs took off for operations inside Dnalkrad. Helicopters and bombers were back at full strength. A-10s were being sent into Dnalkrad City to assist in operations. Two A-10s though were given a different mission. As they entered Dnalkrad airspace they recieved orders to travel to bridge 7748. a bridge they knew well since they had provided SEAD around the bridge during the strike.
They were being sent in to take out enemy resistance around the road in support of Rangers. Immediately, they went to full power and checked their loads. They had Mavericks, rockets, and iron bombs in addition to their Sidewinders and 30MM cannon.
In addition to the A-10s, three F-15Cs were sent to the area immediately due to the possibility of enemy fighter activity. The F-15Cs dropped their tanks and went to full military power, accelerating from six hundred to eight hundred knots in no time. They were armed with AIM-120C-6 AMRAAMs and AIM-9X Sidewinders. With their radars off they were unseen coming in. AWACS was guiding them to seven unknown air contacts at very low altitude and very high speeds. The F-15Cs were at twenty thousand feet and doing eight hundred knots, flying at a speed of fifteen miles in a minute. The drag from their three six hundred gallon fuel tanks was no more as they crashed down in the middle of the forest, exploding harmlessly on the ground as they impacted.
As they closed on the position, reports from AWACS showed that three of the seven were climbing at very high speed and the other four were maintaining a low-level orbit. Had they been seen? When their range was forty nautical miles, the F-15s turned on their radars and each launched an AIM-120C-6 at a contact. The AIM-120s left the rails and climbed at Mach 4, heading to their targets.
AWACS reported that the contacts dropped off the scope. The F-15Cs turned on the four contacts down at low-level now as they turned towards them, emitting no radar signals themselves. The F-15s fired again, four missiles now aloft towards four more targets. They dropped off soon as well. The A-10s kept coming, flying at a speed of three hundred and fifty knots. They were at eighteen thousand feet, heavily loaded but pushing it as hard as they could.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the distance, flames erupted and explosions rolled across the distance. LTC. Moore looked but couldn't make out just what it was. He concentrated on fighting. His foward artillery controller was directing in the A-10s, giving them updates constantly. They roared over the land, dropping down to twelve thousand as they got closer to the target area. The threat from MANPADs was heavy but they needed to be low to use their ordinance effectively since there was heavy cloud cover from the storm.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When the A-10s descended on the target they dropped right away on two fixed mortary positions, dropping a MK-82 each. They were loaded with two AIM-9M-9 Sidewinders, one ALQ-184 ECM pod, two AGM-65G Mavericks, four LAU-61 Hydra pods, four MK-82 bombs, and four CBU-87 cluster bombs. Their 30MM GAU-8 cannons had eleven hundred and seventy-four roads of mean ammunition that could be used to devestate tanks and armor, let alone people.
They swooped in and followed directional commands from the FAC, dropping on targets here and there, elminating heavy resistance everywhere. But after eleven passes, they were all out of ammunition, having spent it all on the ground. But they did enough that those eleven passes put the battle at an instant stalemate.
LTC. Moore thanked them and Central Command. His Rangers had been reduced from three hundred to two hundred and twenty-seven. The rest were either dead or injured too bad to fight. MEDEVACS were flown in with Black Hawks as well as supplies. They had to hold the bridge or else it would be the single largest casualty loss for Layarteb troops in one single place. Sure they had lost a lot in Dnalkrad City but not nearly as fast and it was spread all over the city.
The sun would come up in the morning and the battle would resume.

Searching for the location of the Dnalkrad fleet in order to engage and destroy it
*********************************
“Admiral Camsley,” the senior-most aide called, “The Sea Shadows report a hazy visual contact that has been confirmed as the outermost pickets of the Dnalkrad fleet. The main formation appears to be about 75 miles to our southeast. The Shadows, however, were at the edge of their operational radius and were forced to return before gaining further information. We do not know whether they were spotted in turn.”
“Excellent,” the tall brunette said in her soft voice, “Initiate Operation Beartrap, as well as the other thing we discussed.”
“Aye ma’am,” the aide said before striding down to the sonar compartment.
“Relay the following code to all submarines part of Operation Beartrap: A8A784K-58PIE20DRU.”
“Yes sir,” the sonarman responded. Five minutes later he reported that all the submarines had confirmed the initiation of Operation Beartrap. The aide nodded and then went up to the bridge to see the fleet air commander. After relaying the general idea of the plan the commander did not look pleased at all, but recognized he had no choice in the matter. Ten minutes later three F-14E Ultra Tomcats lifted off of one of the 7th CBG’s carriers accompanied by a CSA (AWACS-type aircraft).
Onboard an F-14E Ultra Tomcat
Currently launching a sortie against suspected location of Dnalkrad fleet
Guided by a CSA and armed for both air-to-sea and air-to-air combat
*****************************
The F-14E was the newest jet in the Veritasean Imperial Navy and only the absolute best pilots were allowed to fly them. Designed to compete with the new F-22 and F-32, the F-14E was an upgraded version of the original F-14 Tomcat with enhanced speed, maneuverability, stealth, and weapon capacity. It featured a brand-new look-down radar and an updated target tracking computer system that allowed it to track up to 17 different aerial targets at once. Each of the three jets currently heading towards the suspected Dnalkrad position carried an extra fuel tank, two HyStrikes (a hypersonic anti-ship missile), and two AAAM’s (advanced air-to-air missile).
“You got anything yet Eagle?” Lt. Cmd Richardson asked the escorting CSA from his F-14E cockpit.
“We’ve got a few fuzzy returns Seraphim Lead, but nothing solid,” the radio operator aboard the aerial early-warning platform replied.
“Wait a sec,” Lt. Zacharias said slowly, “I’ve got a fuzzy, but solid, return due north on my look-down radar.”
“Copy that Seraphim 3,” Richardson replied, “That’s prolly our guys, let’s head south.”
The three F-14E’s and the CSA then turned south and headed for the fuzzy radar disturbance.
“Whoa! S**t!” Zacharias suddenly exclaimed, “I just got painted by a search radar!”
“F**k, me too!” the pilot of Seraphim 2 swore.
“Stay calm,” Richardson replied, “As soon as we get acquisition we can get the hell out of here.”
“The radar picture is firming up,” the CSA’s radio operator reported, “You should also be advised you are now weapons-free; I repeat, you are now weapons-free.”
“Copy that Eagle,” Seraphim Lead replied, “Ought to be in firing position in just another second or two. See, nothing to worry about...”
But at this moment an anti-air missile streaked up from sea-level and blotted one of the F-14E’s from the sky.
“S**t! Seraphim Two is splashed, I repeat, Seraphim 2 is splashed!” Richardson screamed into his microphone.
“Weapons have acquired!” Zacharias called nervously, “Weapons locked, and...release 1....release 2! Both HyStrikes are gone and I am disengaging!”
“Copy that Seraphim Three. Both my HyStrikes are also gone. I’m out.”
With that both F-14E’s turned sharply and went to afterburner, heading back to their carriers. They were pursued by countless missiles and launched chaff clouds to mask their escape, but Seraphim Lead sustained serious damage from a nearby explosion and was forced to bail out. The only fighter to escape the mission was Seraphim Three.
“Eagle to Thibodeaux, over.”
“Roger that Eagle, go ahead,” the communications technician onboard the UVS Thibodeaux replied.
“We have one splashed fighter, one bailed, and one returning back to base. Total of four HyStrikes fired, most likely at the largest radar target available: the carriers. Exact damage inflicted is currently unknown. We are returning to regular patrol patterns and request air-to-air refueling ASAP.”
“Copy that Eagle, good job.”
Aboard the UVS Blackhole
Virginia Class Future Attack Sub
Currently participating in Operation Beartrap
***************************
“Conn, sonar,” the intercom in the Blackhole’s command center echoed. Captain Davis picked up a red phone hanging on the wall.
“Sonar, conn; Go ahead.”
“Alright, the tail (towed array sonar) just got a clear picture of everything. Well, as clear as we can get. The other six subs (3 LA class, 1 VA class, and 2 Seawolf class) are in position. We’ve got very light cavitation where the enemy is supposed to be located. If it weren’t for the intel I would have classified it as merchie vessels. In about five minutes the picture should clear up enough to get some firing solutions.”
“Good, keep me informed.”
“Aye skipper.”
For the next ten or so minutes the line of Veritasean subs continued creeping forward at about 6 knots, a speed at which they were virtually silent. The in-ship intercom system then buzzed yet again.
“Conn, sonar.”
“Sonar, conn; go ahead.”
“The picture finally firmed up a bit. With that little current that just caught us, our tail was blown to the side and that gave us a clearer picture of the Dnalkrad fleet. I’m still not quite sure of exactly what type of ships we’re up against, but I do have enough for a few firing solutions, and I’m sure the other subs do too.”
“Excellent, what is the likelihood of us being counterdetected?”
“So long as we keep this speed and don’t fire? Virtually zero unless something very bad happens.”
“Good, so will we be able to get any further data?”
“In another ten minutes we might be able to get a bit more, but nothing substantial without going active.”
“Very well, transfer your bearings to the weapons department and give the same order to the other subs.”
“Yes sir.”
Captain Davis continued to look calm and collected as he piloted his ship towards her first ever live-fire engagement. His inner reverie was disturbed when the intercom system sounded once again.
“Conn, weapons.”
“Weapons, conn; go ahead.”
“I’ve got a pair of Mk-50's and a pair of Mk-48's locked and loaded. There’s some mines and such on standby as well.”
“Good, keep on alert, the firing order will come any moment.”
Davis then received word from his sonar department that all the other subs had reported locked and loaded as well.
“Very good,” Davis said on a ship-wide intercom call, “Sonar, transmit the ‘fire’ order; Weapons, fire your torpedoes!”
The vessel shuddered as the four missiles’ tubes were flooded, their torpedo bay doors were opened, and then were launched at the Dnalkrad fleet. In the first volley there were a total of 12 Mk-50's, 10 Mk-48's, and 5 Mk-60 Captor mines all headed towards the Dnalkrad fleet. At this point another 3 submarines closed in from opposite direction and fired 4 ADCAP’s, 4 MK-50's, and 4 Harpoons. The distraction the jets were providing appeared to be working well the captains of the various subs thought to themselves as their ships dove under the thermacline layer and sped back towards safety...

LTC. Moore had not slept all day. The sun was coming up and he knew that an attack would surely occur. There were an unknown number of enemy soldiers out there. The war was six days old and news was reaching the lines throughout that Layarteb forces in Dnalkrad City had just made a significant advance and broken through the first line of enemy resistance.
But LTC. Moore was concerned with what was going on with his front. His men were split in three areas now and he could not reach either of the other two. He had his radioman with him and that was enough. They were fresh with supplies and ammunition, something he was grateful for. He'd airlifted out seventy-three soldiers. Of them twenty-eight were KIA.
Now it was 0600 with the sun rising in the east, to their right flank. Naval aircraft were heard overhead, flying to Dnalkrad City to assist land operations. Fighter CAPs had increased since seven Su-33s were shot down the previous night and there were at least six more incidents with aircraft being painted and then returning fire. All-in-all, Layarteb officials figured they had downed twelve enemy aircraft, most likely Su-33s.
LTC. Moore was all alone when the fighting broke out. Gunfire erupted from the treeline about five hundred yards away. There was no advance, just machine gun, mortar, sniper, and small arms fire. A few RPGs flew harmlessly overhead but otherwise it was useless fire. It was more like suppressive fire. LTC. Moore ordered his soldiers to open fire immediately and they did so. Mortar fire was exchanged and snipers blasted away with their M21s, M24s, M40s, and M82s. The sounds were so deafening that it was a shock any of them heard orders to fire here or there.
The radioman immediately went to work. "Central Command this is Task Force Ironpalm report in. Over." He gave the authorization codes. Again.
"Confirm. What can I do for you sir? Over."
"Fighting has resumed, heavy fighting from the treeline. I've got men in three locations. We're all split up. Taking heavy losses." He'd already seen six men die and heard reports of another fifteen KIAs with at least eighty injuries. Enemy fire had, in the past thirty-five seconds, become increasingly accurate. The original bunch of fire was most like suppressive fire to shock everyone to their senses and get them in the confusion. It was working. "Need imme..." He stopped to fire his weapon at rushing enemy soldiers. "Need immediate air support. We're going to be overrun very soon. Request all that you got. Over."
"We'll do what we can. Out." The radioman took the radio and began firing. LTC. Moore had an aggravated look in his eye and he fired at more rushing soldiers.
On the deck of one of the Enterprise carriers, two F/A-18C Hornets rocketed off the deck. They were armed with four MK-82s and four LAU-61 rocket pods each. Already in the air heading to them were F-16Cs and F-26As. It would be another ten minutes before any air support arrived. The F/A-18Cs were twenty-minutes out and the F-16Cs and F-26As were traveling on the deck at Mach 1.05. They'd be there in ten minutes.
http://www.theinkshoppe.com/vindicator.jpg
The fighting doubled in those ten minutes. It seemed that enemy numbers had tripled. His men were doing an excellent job putting mortars on their mark and keeping the enemy rushers at bay. Some got through and they were popped within feet of friend troops. The radioman ceased firing now and was directing in friendly air support. The FAC was with him giving orders and coordinates. He took the radio when friendly aircraft were two minutes out.
He directed in the F-16Cs first. They were armed with cluster munitions and dumb bombs. A total of six F-16Cs came in at high speed and dropped their MK-82s, CBU-87s, and CBU-89s on enemy positions attacking the third group. There was no communication with them and they could only hope that it had worked. They were approximately seven hundred yards to the east and cut off by enemy forces from LTC. Moore. The F-26As, eight in all, flew in at high speed and dropped more cluster munitions, rockets, and dumb bombs on enemy forces attacking the second group, approximately two thousand yards away from LTC. Moore to the west. He was in the middle, taking the biggest beating but he also had the most men so he was holding them off well.
With the F/A-18Cs inbound at six hundred miles per hour at only eight hundred feet, LTC. Moore would see them rocket over his head and drop on enemy positions in front of him five hundred yards away. But when they came in they came in hard and fast. They were on afterburner and LTC. Moore ordered everyone down as they came overhead at 1,000 feet, dropping their MK-82s first on the tree line. Then it was rocket time. By 1900, the fighting ceased. They had held out for another day and actually pushed up two thousand yards. They recieved intelligence about a possible enemy HQ and stronghold not more then a mile away.
That was it for LTC. Moore for a while. Helicopters came in to deliver supplies and airlift out the wounded and dead. The entire second group had been overrun and killed. The third group, once reuiniting with the first group wound up doubling its effectiveness. LTC. Moore airlifted out another one hundred and twenty, sixty-eight being KIA. Of the three hundred he now had one hundred and seven with him. He knew something was up. Would they attack at dawn? Most likely. They were going to attack too! He'd be ready for them!

Dnalkrad

In his bunker, General Joubin looked around at the various forms of intelligence. The Fleet had been detected and fired upon. The elite special forces group he sent out to harass Layarteb supply lines had come under heavy fire and taken severe casualties. His city was falling. All-in-all he was losing, that he knew. He controlled only three things: the forces within Dnalkrad City, the EMP satellite, and his fleet. Other then that he had absolutely nothing. Was it time to use the satellite? He thought hard. No, I must wait!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The fleet increased speed to ten knots and the Kirov's took the front guard. The search radar had detected three incomming contacts, fuzzy ones at that but enough for a missile lock. Immediately, the Kirov went to work and three SA-N-6 Grumble missiles lifted off the deck of the first Kirov, arching up to the sky. They streaked upwards and bolted towards their targets at Mach 6. The Slava now trained its radar to the targets and each of the Slava's fired off a single missile at a target. The other two Kirov's fired off SA-N-6 missiles as well. Now with a total of eighteen SA-N-6 missiles streaking towards their targets at Mach 6, the fleet began evasive manuevers and the Su-33s on the decks were readied.
The radar operator at the lead Kirov watched as one of the contacts dropped off the radar and the other two make a sharp turn in the opposite direction, heading away from the fleet. Four contacts were coming inbound though, at very high speed. Another contact dropped off the screen and the other one was flying away very fast and very low, releasing chaff.
It wasn't long before the fleet felt their own hit. The lead Kirov took three missile strikes of the four incoming vampires. One was blown up with CIWS. The lead Kirov was heavily damaged though, listing near port, heavily. Taking on water and without propulsion or communication systems, the capitan ordered the boat to be abandoned as he planned to scuttle it as it was too badly damaged for any repairs. Damage control estimated that the ship could return to base but it would most likely cost half of the remaining alive sailors their lives. The fleet was now down a Kirov. They had to fight harder.
Then everything went wrong. Sonar erupted with contacts coming inbound. There were many high-speed screws coming towards the fleet, which meant only one thing, torpedoes. The ships immediately too evasive maneuvers and anti-submarine rockets were loaded and readied. They'd have to be snapshot to the origins of the torpedoes as there were no sonar contacts otherwise. The eight Akula and twenty Kilo submarines dove under the layer and began a passive sweep themselves, watching as the torpedoes heading towards the surface. All-in-all there were twenty-seven high-speed contacts heading towards the fleet. With this, the carrier launched her aircraft, twenty-eight Su-33 Flanker-D aircraft and four Ka-29 Helix helicopters. The Su-33s were split into two groups. One would provide air defense, a group of ten Su-33s armed with ten R-77RVV-AE Adder missiles and four R-73M2 RDM2 Archer missiles. The other eighteen carried four R-77RVV-AE Adder missiles, four R-73M2 RDM2 Archer missiles, and six Kh-31 Krypton missiles. The Adder and Archer missiles would provide the air to air basis and the Krypton missiles were dedicated anti-ship missiles. Each Helix carried one torpedo.
The Su-33s rocketed off the ski-jump of the Kuznetsov as even more contacts were inbound. On top of the twenty-seven incoming torpedoes were another eight and then four anti-ship missiles, coming in subsonic at low-level, most likely Harpoons. They could be destroyed with Gauntlet and Grimson missiles but the torpedoes were a different story.
The helicopters closed in on the source of the torpedo launches and dropped their sonar buoys in passive mode. Contacts were faint but they knew there were some there. On orders from the Kuznetsov, the Helix's each dropped their torpedoes into the water and put them on active ping mode. They had found contacts and were homing.
Back at the fleet, the Harpoons were shot down with CIWS and air defense missiles. However, of the thirty-five torpdoes, only six were evaded. Twenty-nine slammed into the two Kirovs, the three Slavas, and ten of the Grisha Vs. They all sank. The Kuznetsov, in the middle of the pack was thus far unharmed.
The Su-33s maintained low-level and very high speed. They were noses cold but passive sensors were picking up readings of search radars. Su-33s providing air cover kept low as well and scanned with their IRSTs. There were contacts, many of them but none close enough to engage, the same went for those with anti-ship missiles.
Before the Kirovs and Slavas sank, they managed to get off a total of ten 533mm torpdoes. They were heading in active mode towards contacts as well, now a total of fourteen torpedoes in the water. The ten Grishas, before they sank fired off twenty 533mm torpedoes themselves, bolstering the number to thirty-four.
The submarines, however, remained silent as they swept for contacts, waiting for the torpedoes to hit before they fire themselves. The Typhoons, on the other hand, was deep, very deep, and very slow. They were well within range of firing their missiles and only needed a single order from Dnalkrad City to launch. Each of the SS-N-20 missiles had a target and each of the missiles had ten one hundred kiloton warheads, each independently targetable. That gave a total of eight hundred warheads. Each had its own target, some doubled up and even tripled up, like those attacking airbases, Layarteb City, and major military installations.
The Su-33s closed in range while the Ka-29s returned for rearming. The Su-33s locked onto their targets and each of the Kh-31 missiles were fired, a total of one hundred and eight missiles lofted at targets from forty-four miles away, maximum range. Those Su-33s continued low and fast, prepared to assist the other Su-33s with CAP. They had a total of one hundred and seventy-two R-77RVV-AE missiles, one hundred and twelve R-77M2 RDM2 Archer missiles, and forty-two hundred rounds of 30mm bullets.
Their IRSTs were picking up many targets, many of them surrounding the center of the enemy battlegroups. They were outnumbered but they were undetected thus far, remaining just above the waves.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
By the battle near the Nine Stripe Bridge, enemy forces have overwhelmed friendlies. Reports coming into the stronghold command center were not good. Colonel Hallon, the leader of the special forces group, the 68th Paratrooper Regiment, was not impressed. Most of his regiment was dead, dying, or captured by enemy forces and they were less then two miles away. They were well-supplied, the Su-33s failing to keep supply helicopters and Ospreys at bay. They had not lost the battle yet. COL. Hallon still had two thousand soldiers between him and the enemy forces. Whether or not the enemy would have air support again was a serious question but it was not likely. Bad weather was rolling in again and it was closing on the seventh day of the conflict.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
General Joubin sat in his bunker, tired and weary. He too had not slept much in the past eight days. He looked over the latest reports. He was down massively in numbers of tanks and forces. He was down to barely anything. Layarteb was in control of all his WMD and they were closing in on the city with brute force. He'd lost over two million of his military personnel and civilan casualties were in excess of one hundred and twenty thousand. Layarteb bombers had attacked two civilian shelters inside Dnalkrad City and bodies were being pulled out of the flaming wreckage of the two shelters. All-in-all there were eighteen shelters in Dnalkrad City, housing over one hundred and sixty-eight thousand people.

Despite Layarteb allowing Unum Veritas to completely take care of the enemy fleet, they were not standing idly by. The Twin Towers class coastal patrol boats were on patrol. Six Shield-class submarines were on patrol, two of them shadowing the Dnalkrad fleet, coming in from the east. They were unseen by both Unum Veritas and Dnalkrad. They were each loaded with eighteen ADCAP torpedoes and six Harpoon anti-ship missiles.
They shadowed the fleet slow and deep, keeping accurate plots on who was who and accurate firing solutions. They watched as the sounds of explosions and breaking hulls filled the water.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
LTC. Moore awoke with the rest of his men from a sleep that wasn't even a sleep. It was a nap. It was silent over the night into the seventh day of the war. They were camped in with their supplies. Helicopters would keep them supplied indefinitely. If the battle went another day they would recieve fresh reinforcements but if they finished it today, it would be all over.
There was air support inbound already. The group coming in was six F/A-18Cs, three armed with four MK-82s and four LAU-61s. The other three substituted their four MK-82s for four MK-78 napalm canisters. Reconnaissance during the night showed a line of defenses. Mortars, machine guns, fixed positions, and a trench was what made up this line. The MK-82s and the rockets would be great for taking out this line. The napalm was going to be used against troops who were advancing.
The battle began at 0627. At that time, the six F/A-18Cs were one hundred nautical miles out, traveling at six hundred knots. They were ten minutes out.
LTC. Moore and his Rangers were grouped together, having had all night to dig in. Their position was very easy to defend. They had to basically shoot anything that was in front of them and they did. Ten minutes was an eternity. They advanced not and took barely any losses. There were wounds but nothing major. The advancing enemy troops were firing but not coherently. They were too busy trying to avoid mortar fire and sniper fire.
When the F/A-18s came in, they streaked in at six hundred feet. The three of them with MK-82s came in and dropped their weapons on the first pass, climbing and turning for a second, with which they used their rockets. Vapor trails and G-force effects were seen as they banked off target. The other three F/A-18s came in with napalm and rockets and blasted the advancing soldiers with such fury that any remaining went into immediately retreat.
When the fire settled in the field, LTC. Moore and his soldiers advanced. They were heading to an old 17th century castle that was originally thought to be a stronghold but no evidence was found to justify the claim and thus it was dismissed. Now they knew, it was a stronghold. LTC. Moore and his soldiers stormed in and captured most of those inside. Minor gunfire was exchanged but nothing threatening.
When he hit the castle, LTC. Moore had one hundred and one soldiers with him. Six had died in the battle and some were wounded but nothing too serious that they could not advance with LTC. Moore. They had captured a colonel in charge of the enemy forces they were fighting. Helicopters and Ospreys came in and airlifted out the entire group, their wounded, their dead, their prisoners, and any intelligence they collected.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In Dnalkrad City, air strikes and ground fire virtually eliminated the remaining air defenses within the city, allowing helicopters and fighter-bombers to fly through the area with no opposition. They had eliminated most of the resistance. Ground forces had taken some minor casualties. They lost another six hundred and thirty-eight with an additional fourteen hundred wounded. Nonetheless, they were succeeding. They were quickly approaching the center of the city and were meeting stronger resistance from soldiers. Air support and tank fire eliminated most of the armor and the helicopter threat.
The best projections put victory at the tenth day.

OOC: Dude, why was i not informed? :) I have read most posts, but do me a quick briefing anyway. Time to get stuck in...
Fuhrer's Office, Hirgizstan City.
Dear freind, i have heard enough of your glorious battle against Dnalkrad to know when it is time to act, the time is now.
The entire 5th Heavy Marine Division is anchored off-shore and the Commander tells me they are eager to assisst in the land war.
As per our Treaty Agreements certain 'Black' Army SF units, Grey Fox and Strike Force Lightning, have been operating inside Dnalkrad for some time.
With your permission i would like to have the 1st and 2nd Fleets sail into EOL waters to assist yourself and Unum Veritas. The 3rd Airborne Division and the 8th Armoured Airborne Division can imeediately drop near the frontlines and various AF units are operational.
With your permission i would like to declare war on Dnalkrad and immediately begin landing invasion forces.

OOC- Okay Dnalkrad, time for some real RP, eh? Let's make this detailed and indepth, even if it will take extra time. What do you say?
OOC II- Hirgizstan, I'd prefer to keep the naval battle as it is right now, in order to give Dnalkrad more of a chance at a good RP rather than just number wanking.

The klaxon alarms in the CIC (Combat Information Center) were sounding almost ceaselessly. Sonar conditions around the subs involved in Operation Beartrap had just gone to hell as all the enemy ships increased speed, began evading the torpedoes, and firing their own weapons. Officers and technicians were attempting to make sense of the scene and discover which Veritasean subs had escaped, which were still trapped, and which had already been hit.
“Admiral, the most recent numbers put 5 subs back in safety; the other five are still somewhere in the fray, but we’re fairly certain that one of the LA class and one of the Seawolfs have been hit almost directly,” the top submarine officer said sadly.
“Alright, what is the enemy doing now?”
“Well, their surface ships have ceased their evasive maneuvers and seem to be attempting to form back up; radar tells us that they scrambled several fighters right after our attacks, but there shouldn’t be any targets for the fighters; the enemy subs appear to have disappeared, we don’t really know where they are, but they are most likely trying to kill any of our subs left in the area.”
Admiral Camsley nodded and told her aide to call a meeting of all the chief officers in her wardroom in five minutes. She then tossed her hair behind her shoulders, ignored the stares from various young sailors, and strode to her stateroom where she was joined five minutes later by her various advisers. The top aviation, submarine, surface warfare, ASW, and AA officers all took seats on the various couches and recliners in her parlor (Veritasean admirals like their amenities).
“Okay, we’ve had the first engagement now, you all know how things go from here. We won’t get much sleep and there’s going to be near-constant fighting. Now, I want you all to think of some subordinates who can take over certain aspects of your field; I’ll need you all at top performance and can’t afford mistakes from tired officers. Alright? Good. Now, I want an increased CAP (combat air patrol) and a CSA airborne at all times. Switch on the AEGIS systems and move the AA ships to an outer perimeter. Let’s move the ASW frigates out as well. Release all our submarines to begin independent, unrestricted, operations. Anything else?”
“Well, ma’am” the surface warfare officer said with a bit of a grin, “We managed to get a pretty good radar picture when all their ships started moving. If we move quickly we can make use of this; now, it’s a bit unconventional-”
“I like unconventional,” Camsley interrupted.
“Okay good,” the AUW officer went on, “You know we’ve got that new, experimental missile we’ve been working on, right? The one that explodes mid-air and scatters mines over a certain radius? Well, we brought a few with us on one of our arsenal ships. I recommend we launch one now. Even if we don’t actually do any damage, it will still force them to sit still while their minesweepers work.”
“Excellent idea, do it.”
“Yes ma’am,” he responded before walking over to a phone, dialing a number, and saying,
“Captain Xavier here, launch an X-32A at the last known coordinates of the Dnalkrad fleet.”
“Good,” Camsley said as her advisor retook his seat, “Any other ideas?”
“I’d suggest a Sea Shadow sortie, but not just yet,” an advisor said.
“What about a massive aerial attack?” the aviation officer suggested.
“Maybe some cruise missiles from the SSGN’s?” the submarine advisor asked.
“Okay,” Camsley said over the noise, “Everyone write up your suggestions and get them to me by the end of the day, dismissed!”
Summary
5 Subs escaped
5 Subs current whereabouts unknown (2 suspected hit)
CAP increased
AA and ASW assets moved to form outer perimeter
One missile currently en route to Dnalkrad fleet position, once it explodes it will scatter naval mines over a ½ mile radius
More offensive plans are in development

I didn't involve the OA because it was a personal conflict with this Dnalkrad, who is my friend trying to be cool but he's getting squashed. It's pretty much over now I mean he doesn't have much left and UV is totaling his fleet and I am in his capital city where he is so it's cool. Don't worry about it.
We at the OA have to focus on regional defense.

OOC: UV, i understand what you mean, i suppose if i entered it would be sort of unfair, especially at this late stage. I just wanted to see if anyone needed help, i'm in the OA with Layarteb if that helps you to figure out why i wanted to enter so late, i understand your postion though.
IC:
Hirgizstan has submitted recent proposals for the regional defense issue.
As well as that i would like to congratulate the EOL and UV on a glorious and well-won victory. I would also like to say that civilian based help is always avaliable and that if the EOL or UV are having trouble monetarily then the DOH will be happy to help in any and all ways.

OOC: Anyhow I'm continuing.
The interrogations of Colonel Hallon were unsuccessful thus far, but then again barely any force had been used. He was taken back, along with his command staff, to a prison inside Layarteb. The elite division of interrogators employed by the military had only been gentle. The beatings were light and there were no threats of death, yet. The next phase would be that and progressively worse until they broke. The interrogators, throughout their history, had a 92% rate of success with interrogations. Their failures resulted from their victims dying or going psychotic.
The Emperor was pleased with the way the war was going. The eighth day of the conflict yielded much hope for the military of Layarteb. Armored units and infantry units inside Dnalkrad City had gone on a massive push and the remaining enemy forces were dug in so well and so deeply that they were easy to target. Artillery and air support was being used non-stop to pummel their positions. Tank fire and infantry fire was keeping them down and keeping their effectiveness so low that it was as if they weren't fighting at all.
They knew that General Joubin was here somewhere, hiding deep underneath the city. Special teams of Force Falcon soldiers were still going from bunker to bunker searching for him and they were almost done. Of the seventeen sites, they had checked fourteen of them. Number fifteen was roughly six miles away from the center of the city and the other two were just outside the city.
The elite team was descending into the fifteen bunker as noon spawned on the eighth day. There was unusual resistance immediately at the beginning of the bunker but nothing they couldn't handle. They were fully armed and though they were not as well rested as they could have been, they certainly were able. A resupply from a pair of MH-60s during the early morning hours had been excellently timed. They had met very heavy resistance during the raid on the twelfth bunker and with that had nearly exhausted their ammunition. Now they were meeting just the same amount of resistance.
Naval fighters and Air Force fighters had destroyed more Su-33s both in the air and on the ground and with that they had also done well destroying more of the armor within the city. The enemy was down to a few infantry fighting vehicles, a few main battle tanks, and a few armored personnel carriers. Trucks and other assorted vehicles were being taken out left and right by AT4s, Hellfires, cannon fire, and well placed artillery, mortar, and tank fire. All was being done perfectly and with clockwork.
The battle was shaping up nicely. As the sun set on the eighth day, the sounds of gunfire throughout the city echoed more loudly then ever before. At eighteen different positions, soldiers were engaging each other with small arms and heavy weapons.

OOC: Unum what about all those AS-17s I fired at your surface vessels? Those should register some damage and sinkings. It's a M3.0 missile with a 200-lb. warhead and I launched what 108 of them.
IC
The Su-33s maintained low-level and highspeed, just above the crashing waves and watched as their missiles quickly approached the Unum Veritas ships. CAP assets had doubled in the past few minutes and the biggest targets were AWACS type aircraft. There couldn't be many of them up there to begin with. The Su-33s locked onto them first and lofted R-77s away, also locking onto the plethora of aircraft in the air. They had at least one missile per aircraft, with some having two on them. That was only their R-77s. They still had R-73s for close in support but they would not get in to using them just yet.
After the R-77s were fired, the Su-33s broke and headed back to base at maximum level speed down low, Mach 1.06, 807 mph. They were far enough away from the Unum aircraft that they could not be chased and that they could safely land on the deck of the Kuznetsov and rearm. This time their R-77RVV-AEs would be supplemented for the extended range PD versions. They would take off with the same loads as before with the only difference to the R-77s.
The Ka-29s were already back in the air, searching for targets and preparing to drop their torpedos.
Underneath the waves, the massive submarine force prepared to fire at their contacts. The first salvo would just be torpedos, thirty-two 650mm torpedoes from the Akulas and one hundred and twenty 533mm torpedoes from the Kilos. They were targetted at both surface and sub-surface contacts. The initial firing was immediately met with reloads to all torpedo tubes.
In the second salvo, only a mere two minutes apart from the first, the Kuznetsov also fired. All of its 12 SS-N-19 Shipwreck missiles were targetted and fired, lifting off in a matter of seconds. The Oscar IIs fired their weapons next, sixteen 650mm torpedoes and sixteen SS-N-19s. These were all targetting surface vessels. The loss of the Kirovs and the Slavas to the fleet was definitely a blow because of the vast amount of missiles on each ship. The last part of the second salvo were twenty-four SS-N-22 Sunburn missiles launched from the Sovremenny's.
All of the missiles were conventional. Dnalkrad did not employ any nuclear weapons with its fleet except those on the Typhoon and those were SLBMs.
Aboard the Typhoons, which were well out of harms reach, their Sturgeon missiles were ready to be fired. Their torpedo tubes were fully loaded with 533mm and 650mm torpedoes, to be used for self-defense. All 80 SS-N-20s had their targets and each of the MIRV warheads had their targets. Destroying them would prove to be a real pain-in-the-neck for Layarteb.
Elsewhere, inside Dnalkrad City, remaining forces were taking a heavy beating. They were fighting furiously and due to that were not very effective. It was only a matter of time.
General Joubin was now facing the end. Gunfire was being exchanged in the upper levels of his bunker and he knew just what was there. It was definitely Layarteb Special Forces, coming for him. It was time. He immediately barricaded himself in his office and pulled out his briefcase for the EMP satellite. He was going to target the Layarteb Central Operations Command, approximately eighteen miles outside of Layarteb City. Air defenses around the command center were so furious that nothing conventional would have been able to penetrate the net and bomb the facility. He was going to use this EMP weapon on it and destroy it.
The satellite had the ability for one use. This would be it. Since he knew not the location of the Emperors palace or even of his office he could not use it there. The arming codes were entered: 91723190273bhhdy28882901. He smirked and sweated profusely as the gunfire now echoed even closer. Ninety seconds to arm. Fifteen minutes to get into position. I can do this! He pushed the 'GO' button and immediately the satellite went to work, heading towards the firing position. He closed and locked the briefcase and returned it to the safe. Even if they get me they will not get this and I will destroy their ability to wage war!
The gunfire was significantly louder now and grew louder. It was only a matter of time!

OOC: Your g/f is going to be mad I destroyed you isn't she? Am I going to get yelled at for this?
As the sun rose on the morning of the nineth day, the fighting was nearly over. Of those eighteen positions the previous night, only six were still occupied and fighting. They were being handled by artillery and air support while tanks and infantry moved up to surround these six positions.
The Emperor was pleased with the progress. Reports were coming in that Dnalkrad forces were essentially surrounded and that many of them were surrendering. In addition, the Unum Veritas fleet was doing much harm to the fleet of Dnalkrad. The Emperor had sent his coastal defense submarines out there with two purposes: to search for and eliminate Typhoon class SSBNs and to shadow other submarines. The war was going well!
The two Shield-class submarines were operating independently of each other. They were searching for the Typhoon-class SSBNs believed to be operating off the coast. They knew of four of them and they were under strict orders to take each of them out regardless of whether or not Dnalkrad surrendered.
Between the two of them, three of the four Typhoons were located and solutions plotted. MK-48 ADCAPs fired from the two Shield-class submarines destroyed their targets not long after finding them, leaving just one out there, somewhere unknown.
The Force Falcon team searching for the bunker with General Joubin believed they had found it. Intense, heavy resistance in bunker fifteen was being taken. They were fighting well though, taking no injuries or losses, dispatching their enemies quickly and efficiently as they descended throughout the bunker. General Joubin had to be down there, there was more bodyguards, elite bodyguards, then anywhere else. This had to be it! Their orders were to capture the General and his command staff alive if possible and escort them back to Layarteb to face trial.
The Emperor knew one thing about the General. He was a military man and he would either do one of two things if he was caught. He'd either take his life honorably or surrender honorably and face his punishment. That he knew. But certainly he knew that the General would not go down without a fight.
The Emperor knew that it was just a matter of time. Whether or not the General had a secret weapon of last-ditch attempt he knew not but the one thing he did know for certain that the Typhoon's were the best bet, except only one was left!
But something surprising happened at 0926. A blue beam of light erupted from the sky above the Layarteb Central Command Center. The light ceased only a few seconds later. A pulse wave shook the facility and lights flickered, dimmed, and some blew out. The Command Center essentially shut down momentarily but after five minutes was back up with limited effectiveness.
The Emperor was notified immediately and he knew what it was. Where'd that bastard get EMP from! The Command Center was damaged, many of the circuits, transitors, batteries, microchips, etc. having to be replaced but nothing too serious. The center was still operational. Under a secret program initiaited after the test of the ASM-135N ASAT-SSK, Layarteb undertook a massive operation outfitting its most important military and civilian targets with EMP shielding. It was expensive but it proved to be beneficial. The shielding around the Command Center was a Phase 1 shielding, the lowest of them all. Funding to bolster it to Phase 10, the most important targets, got lost somewhere during operations against enemies and Special Operations but it proved effective that the weakest shielding was still able to survive a direct hit!
What else does he have that I don't know about! We must find that Typhoon!!!!
Dnalkrad

OOC: Yes she's plenty annoyed with you. I told you I had a secret weapon but you didn't believe me. She is my secret weapon. Man you aren't getting out of this one easy.
IC
The General was trapped. His men held out long enough for the weapon to fire and he knew that it struck true and with force. The Layarteb Central Command would definitely be offline. As his men fought bravely, the General left his office after the time where he knew the weapon had fired. The enemy was still a few rooms away, fighting hard and moving up slowly. Reports came in of surrenders on the surface. Nine days. Sheesh! He looked at the Admiral of the Navy. "Communicate our surrender to the Unum Veritas fleet. Cease all operations against their fleet and against Layarteb. But do order the Typhoon to launch its weaponry at their designated targets. How bad is it?"
"As of right now sir, we've lost our Slavas and Kirovs. Three of the Typhoons are down. We have one online with their weapons ready. If we communicate the order now they can launch within thirty-five minutes. They report the presence of possible contacts out there, unknown what but most likely what sank the other three."
"Layarteb Shield-class?"
"It's a very good possibility."
"Alright. Keep on it and get them moving." He turned to the General of the Army and gave the order to surrender. Before he ordered the surrender of his men fighting in the bunker he turned to his staff. This is going to be tough! "Gentlemen. You have fought bravely and honorably. I am proud of you. Your men are proud of you and so are the families of those men especially the ones who have died in battle. It is with great remorse that I surrender here today to the Emperor and his forces. If we surrender now they will hopefully save our soldiers and those who we fight for. It is far better that we do this. However, I offer this option. To all those who wish to take their own life I will not discourage that from any of you. My office shall be the available place if anyone wishs to do so. I offer my own pistol for the matter." The Admiral of the Navy and the Commander of Special Forces immediately volunteered. With them the General of the Air Force followed leaving only the General of the Army, General Joubin, a few of his aides and bodyguards, and other inner circle staffers. When no one else stood he ordered his bodyguards to cease firing and surrender. It was over!
Throughout the city on the surface, Dnalkrad soldiers ceased firing and surrendered as they were ordered to do so. Many of the officers still managing fighting positions committed suicide themselves. It was the honorable thing to do for them, it was part of their tradition.
The Typhoon SSBN was now in launch mode. With thirty-five minutes to go, it's twenty missiles were being given the last preparations such as fueling and launch parameters. Finalizations were being done. It would be a matter of minutes after the missiles launched before Layarteb would be reduced to a smoldering wreckage.
The Su-33s landing on the deck of the Kuznetsov stayed put and another wave of missiles and torpedoes was cancelled. The fleet slowed to a stop and initiated its surrender.
PS: I still want damage from my AS-17s, torpedoes, and ship-to-ship missiles.

OOC: He-he I wonder...
The Force Falcon team ceased fired and slowly approached the main bunker area. The bodyguards were ordered to drop their weapons and stand against the wall with their hands over their heads. Plastic zip-ties would serve as restraints for them. All-in-all there were twenty-six people to arrest including the General himself. The team leader, Jack Delaney was the one to apprehend and place the restraints on General Joubin. "General Joubin. You are under arrest in the name of the Emperor of Layarteb for crimes committed against the state and its citizens. You will be given the right to a trial and the right to a single appeal. Do you understand?" The same line was read to everyone just with different variations. The General nodded and said he understood. The fight was over.
Above ground, the fighting ceased and soldiers came out, hands over their hands, weapons on the ground. Some carried white flags. Chearing spread throughout the Layarteb lines and close air support sorties and other air missions were aborted. Naval vessels stood down from alert and just maintained BARCAP.
The Shield class shadowing the last Typhoon was roughly twenty nautical miles out. It was chasing the submarine down at eight knots, the submarine was doing four. In its tubes were loaded four MK-48 ADCAP torpedos. The Typhoon was streaming along at a hundred and fifty feet and four knots. A solution was plotted and under orders the Shield launched a MK-48. It immediately accelerated to fifty-five knots and acquired the Typhoon after three thousand yards in passive mode. The weapon was locked and it chased down the target, still unaware to its presence.
But, before the torpedo hit, the sound of rushing air filled the water. The sonar operator of the Shield immediately yelled out to the conn. "Conn sonar. Report missile launch! One...Two...Three...Four...Five...Six...Seven...Eight...Nine..." At the nineth one, the torpedo impacted. "Torpedo impact sir. Crushing sounds. The submarine is sinking but we've got nine birds in the air." The Shield was instantly taken to periscope depth and the captain watched as the last missile climbed for the sky. A message was immediately sent to the Central Command. They had detected the launch through the anti-stealth and SOSUS system.
http://www.pcf.city.hiroshima.jp/peacesite/GIF/Stage2/2-5-3.jpg
Immediately, a major alert was sent out and both Piranaha and Sky Sabre ABM systems came online and tracked the missiles. At least two of them were headed to Layarteb City. Three more were going to Falcon City. One was going to Central Command. The last three were heading to unknown targets. Seconds after the missiles were detected, Sky Sabre and Piranaha ABM missiles lifted off and streaked skyward. F/A-22s and F-15Cs already on patrol were immediately vectored to locations capable of intercepting the warheads. Their AIM-120, AIM-9, and AIM-179 missiles would be stretched to their limit, anti-ballistic missile capability. It was a last ditch attempt. Against a low-flying, subsonic cruise missile they would do their job but against a warhead moving ultra-fast towards the ground, they were not very effective.
http://www.smdc.army.mil/SMDCPhoto_Gallery/Missiles/THAAD_FT09.jpg
The Emperor was immediately notified and he took shelter inside the bunker underneath his office. Air raid sirens blared out throughout Layarteb as most people rushed for cover and hid underground. It was an estimated eight to ten minutes before the missile warheads would impact their targets. Certainly it wasn't a lot of time.
The ABM missiles streaked skyward at speeds in excess of Mach 10. They were gaining speed as they grew lighter and achieved more kinetic energy. One, two, three, four, five, and six missiles went down with the first shot. Four shots in all were fired at each missile.
http://www.danshistory.com/pachit2.jpg
The seventh missile went down next, the third missile impacting it. The eighth missile was then hit on its descent towards Layarteb City. Still, there was the nineth missile, bearing down on Falcon City. All four of the interceptors missed and another three were on the way as the missile warheads descended on their targets. Each warhead was being tracked and fired at.
The missile defense shield, along with the remainder of the defenses in Layarteb, cost well over $10 trillion. They paid off in one single moment when the nineth missile and its warheads filled the air with fire as they were intercepted.
http://www.fas.org/spp/starwars/program/p24.jpg
The Typhoon was sinking in water seventeen hundred feet deep and its missiles, armed and already in firing mode, were either destroyed by the explosion or launched and never managed to break the surface. Ten trillion. It ahd paid off!!!
Now began the slow process of rebuilding.
