United Faction News
Four hours ago, as Richard Evan, the president of the United Faction of Big Long Now was shot three times as he emerged from a meeting with congressional advisors at the Inkball Hotel in Staley, New Dakota.
Paramedics arrived at the scene outside the hotel and rushed him to the local hospital where he died an hour later from injuries. Doctor Jacob Sears released a statement to the United Faction Council which stated that a gunshot wound in the president's abdomen resulted in the rupture of his spleen, and another shot slightly pierced one of his bronchial tubes - were the primary cause of death, although an autopsy is to be performed within the next several hours.
Vice President Joseph Presten was sworn in as President thirty minutes, but only as a temporary repositioning of authority until an election for a new administration can be set up. In a press conference shortly after he was sworn in, Presten exclaimed, "I am having a hard time understanding just who would want to take the life of our president, and arrests have been made of potential suspects who were near the vicinity of the crime, but no definate rulings have been made of who may have done this."
As the temporary president of Big Long Now, Presten is unable to sign new laws in or make declarations of war without the approval of congress and the supreme courts, since there is no vice president that is appointed in this time of crisis.
Guards and other officials who were with the president when he was shot are being offered emotional counseling, as well as religious counseling.
