Lapse

It was a hot and humid summer in Lapse, recently, there had been days with temperatures in excess of 45 degrees celsius. It had been that hot that people had being passing out in the street, and many elderly and ill had died as a result of the heat wave. Schools ha been closed for weeks, and many workplaces had being put out of production. Ice cream sales were going through the roof, but buying icecream was a forlorn hope, as it would have melted by the time it got home. People were relyinging on their air conditioners too much, and as a result, lapse power supplies could not cope with the required amount. almost 80% of houses were blacked out for days at a time, with the battery industry profiting alot. In conjunction with the heat, there was also the humidity. It was raining rarely, but it was still so humid that the air was nearly liquid. There was no wind, no clouds. Only heat and humidity. The makings of a storm.
At nelsons point
Nelsons point was the furthermost North west point of Lapse, and like the rest of Lapse, it was hot and humid, perhaps even more so. several hundred kilometers off the coast, there was action happeningt. The air was too humid. and it started turbulent atmospheric atmosphere.
Liam Cowell was a meteoroligist at teh Lapse Buerau of meteorology. His current assignment was tro monitor the coast several hundred kilometers off Nelsons point. At the moment though, he was asleep at his workstation. he completely missed the action on his screen, the destructive power building that would head directly into one of Lapse's largest cities. Nelsons point had nearly 40 million inhabitants, It was a major fishing and commercial out bpost in Lapse, as it had easy trade routes. As a result of Liams sleeping. None of these citizens would know what was about to hit
At Citrana, the capital of Lapse
Citrana was several thousand kilometers from nelsons point, they too were suffering from an extreme heat wave:
"Damn this infernal heat and powershortages" Said supreme overlord Time Lapse
"Yes my lord, it is really annoying everybody. Blaphmay recorded temperatures of higher than 49 degrees yesterday, and people actually welcomed it as a cool change" Said his personal aid.
"Still, taht doesnt make our cituation any better, there are people dying in the stree every few hours. and if anyone attempts to do CPR, they too are dead withing minutes from the heat. Our roads are litterally meltiung underneath our cars and all of our solar generators are burnt out. It is definatly the worst time in our history of natural disasters. I mean, even my parrot has started losing feathers to compensate for the heat." replied lord Time Lapse
"My mother was killed because of tis damn heat in the heatwave of 74, now it seems my father will perish in this one." Said another advisor who just walked up beside the two people.
"Do you want some time off to see him?" Asked lord time Lapse, "We cant get any work done anyway, everyone cant concentrate."
"I would appreciate that mr Lapse, thank you" replied the advisor.
"You are one of the best advisors in my cabinet. It is the least i can do too pay you back." said Lord Time Lapse
The advisor rushed off
"Anyway, we have a large problem here. We wil have to close all schools across the nation. Have the Lifesavers putr onto everyswimming beach, and ensure that the medical facilities are at optimal performance" Continued TL.
"I will go and follow your orders sir" Said the advisor before running off.
It was going to be a very difficult summer.
At Nelsons point
the first whisperings of a breeze came into teh coast of Nelsons point at around 3 oclock on a Friday Afternoon. It was gentle at first, but by 3:30, there wer 20 km winds. By 4:00 there were 60 km winds. At 5:00, there were winds in excess of 150km/h At which stage the measuring device was destroyed by the wind. This was only the start of it. The first effect was that many trees fell down. Pulling down powerlines. People caught outside were saturated by the rain, and many were hit by items which had become missiles in the wind. There was no shelter. The houses at Nelsons point were not designed to take such winds. Several corrugated iron roofs flew off the houses they belonged too, oten landing kilometers away in another neighborhood. Many houses had windows broken and damage from flying objects. Then came the flooding. The flash flooding came with a wave of water, nearly 1 meter deep in many places. Gettingf into houses and destroying carpets and other house hold items. DCars were flooded and often found down stream several kilometers. There were around 67 seperate rescue operations perfoirmed during the storm. and around 400 people missing. and 1000 people homeless. It was till only the start though.
