Fighting breaks out in Iraqi Kurdistan!

17-03-2004, 04:41
The two main Kurdish groups, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdish Democratic Party, who had signed agreements with the central Iraqi government over a month ago, have split apart. The 'Iraqi Kurdistan Front', an organization created by Al Anbar's central government, with four delegates for each of these two main groups, and two to three for each of the smaller groups of Kurdistan, had rarely agreed on anything since the first day it was created.

President Saddam Hussein had met with the IKF several times, and really tried to get each of the groups to cooperate, but they would not listen to him or each other. For the last two weeks, tensions in the north were high. The Kurdish militias of these two groups had been fully prepared to enter into a conflict with each other, but neither side would take the step to initiate a war. Saddam, seeing an opportunity to let these two groups destroy each other, did not intervene militarily.

The first battle of the intra-Kurdish war began with an innocent accident in the city of Qala Deza, near the Iranian border. A squad of men from each militia had come across each other in the street. The men of both squads had decided to call a 'truce' and speak with each and visit the nearest bar. As they were walking down the street, one of the men of the PUK squad accidentally fired his gun and killed one of the KDP men. Quickly, the KDP responded and a firefight ensued.

The report of this accident soon reached both the KDP's and PUK's headquaters, and each now moved on each other, thinking the other had started this war. The fighting now began as each side moved on each other's militia.

In the middle of this conflict was the Iraqi Army. Both sides did not want to attack the Iraqi troops, as they were too powerful and each side wanted to try and get them to assist them. Checkpoints, all manned by Iraqi troops, did not stop convoys of armed militia from venturing to attack the other side. Iraqi troops took over several of the main cities, however, and refused to let the groups enter them. They also protected schools, health centres, and other important public buildings throughout the region, and both the KDP and PUK respected that and stayed away from them.

Green = KDP
Yellow = PUK

The areas not with either of those colors are fully controlled by me and neither side is allowed there. In both yellow and green areas, there is over 125,000 Iraqi troops with hundreds of tanks and APCs, and they basically control all the cities and most of the countryside. Each side is basically fighting to destroy the other to have complete control over the IKF and have the 'full' voice of Iraqi Kurdistan in Al Anbar's government.

Nothing. They get what they deserve, if they think they're so tough they can fight for themselves.

Prime Minister Alan Ryu Takashi sat in his chair while the members of parliment debated the Iraq-Kurdish conflict that raging from half a world away from the pacific states of Terra Pacifica and whether they should immediately send in their Armed Forces into the region. Opinion polls around the country believed that the ARTP should take a larger role in the international community and help create a buffer zone between the two warring states in Northern Iraq.

"Order, Order! What say you Mr. Prime Minister?"said the Speaker as he attempted to restore order between the MPs and create some dialouge to this concerning issue.

"Ladies and Gentlemen of the House, after much deliberation between myself, the cabinet and the Chiefs of the Armed Forces of Terra Pacifica. We have decided it is in the best interests of the Middle East and ourselfs to send in a military force into the region to help restore peace upon approval from the United Nations and the President of the Republic Of Iraq. Why? Well, for far too long have we sat idlely by as the middle east tear itself apart into a well of choas. I believe it is in our best interests in our prestige and honor to join in and help the Kurdish restore some sanity in the region. That's why I ask the House to vote in favour of military intervention into the Iraqi-Kurish region and immediately send in three thousand armed force personnel from our regular force regiments and (namely the 1st and 2nd Republican Guard, 48th Pacifican Light Infantry (1st Battalion), and the RPS Junichiwa and the 1st Air Support Division into the region (upon approval) to act as a buffer between the two warring states"

After about an hour of deliberation between the Takashi's United Republicans Party and the Official Opposition (Liberal Socialists Party) the house of citizens began voting. When the votes were tallied up the parliment overwhelmingly voted in support of Takashi's purposal 92-23. After the vote the Armed Forces of Terra Pacifica sent out warning orders to 3000 thousand armed forces personnel in preparation for deployment to Iraqi-Kurdish land with the RPS Junichiwa and the 1st Air Division already on their way to the coastline of Kuwait with 200 members of an advance party from the 48th PLI, this being the first peacekeeping deployment in the Armed Republic Of Terra Pacifica signalling a end to isolation from the international community.

OOC: Excuse me, Culdoria, but you are only one day old. You do not have that much forces to be able to 'give' to another nation. Not only that, but you would be faced with attack from Al Anbar's forces in the north. Antiaircraft, etc. etc. Plus, where can you establish a base? Not in Al Anbar, which comprimises Iraq & Syria... And I doubt any of the other nations will allow this since they too have large Kurdish populations and would rather have these two factions fight to the death.

Now, I would suggest that ANYONE who wants to enter Kurdistan with troops first ask the permission of Al Anbar before doing so.

IC:

The Arab Socialist Republic of Al Anbar released a short statement concerning the matter in Iraqi Kurdistan:

"The Arab Socialist Republic of Al Anbar demands that all aid be withdrawn from both the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the Kurdish Democratic Party. Aid distributors will face grave consequencies.

The matter in the northern Iraqi provinces of Al Anbar are a matter to be settled within the Kurdish community there. Aircraft and soldiers will be considered hostile targets and will be destroyed by the Armed Forces of Al Anbar."

This of course is just hearsay and should be regarded as such, there has been no furthur comment concerning the issue from the URP or Prime Minister Takashi, this is a TV5 Breaking News Exclusive.

The Iraqi Government had planned to allow the Kurdish groups fight it out, but nations around the world started to take notice of the situation, Saddam knew he had to do something quickly. Just hours after the conflict began, he ordered his troops to "escort" Jalal Talabani, leader of the PUK, and Mustafa Barzan, leader of the KDP, to the city of Kirkuk for a meeting with President Saddam Hussein.

After being brought to a secure conference location in Mosul, the three debated for two hours. The two Kurdish leaders, one time enemies of Saddam, did not talk to each other, but instead acted like they would only speak to Saddam. But Saddam 'persuaded' them to speak to each other and they soon came up with an agreement that was good for both parties.

They appeared on KurdSat, all Iraqi television stations, and had their voices relayed through all the Iraqi radio stations throughout Al Anbar. Their brief statement:

"I, as leader of the Kurdish Democratic Party," spoke Barzan.

"I, as leader of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan," followed Talabani.

"Hereby order a ceasefire to the conflict in Iraqi Kurdistan. The KDP will hereby turn over all weaponry over to kind government of Al Anbar. I will seek to resolve all differences from now on by diplomacy, not war. This brings a new chapter of history between the Kurdish peoples of Iraq. We stand together!" stated Barzan.

I will seek to resolve all differences from now on by diplomacy, not war. This brings a new chapter of history between the Kurdish peoples of Iraq. We stand together!"

And that was that. The majority of fighting stopped within an hour, as both leaders returned to their headquarters and sent out the official orders to their militia. At the same time, Iraqi troops started to disarm the militias and allowed them to return home.

After news of the ceasefire, Prime Minister Alan Ryo Takashi had decided to address the nation in a press confrence, to address the concerns and the government's next moves in this conflict.

"Mr. Prime Minister is it true that President Hussien has reached an accord with both sides creating a ceasefire?"

"Yes, I've just recieved the call from one of our temporary bases in Turkey, it's official the ceasefire has been enacted"

"What will this mean to our armed forces oversees in the middle east?" asked another reporter

"Well right now we're going to reevaluate our position in the middle east seeing how the conflict has been appearently brought down from the Al-Anbari forces who are currently disarming both sides. We of course are going to continue to airdrop food and medical supplies to both of the Kurdish Factions if needed. I myself have begin contact with their President and have asked if they would like to recieve our medics and engineers who would help with the Iraqi effort to rebuild and maintain stablity in the region as humanitarian aids and peacekeepers"

After the press interview, Prime Minster Takashi headed into his office and went to dicuss this issue with his immediate cabinet and begin to establish contact with the Al-Anbari President.
