In an attempt to cut down on.. everything I don't like, I present to you:
Consider the Following
Role playing is nothing short of interactive creative writing. That said, consider this:
If you have no or little imagination, life experience or creative writing skill (though many people, like myself, wrongfully think that they can write, ask others to judge you.. but that isn't an order to start an endless chain of "what do you think of my RPing" threads), then role play might not be your strong point. That shouldn't discourage you from giving a full-hearted try, though.
If you aren't smart, you can't role play smart characters:
It's fairly blant: If aren't to bright, you can't forge a smart character. It just wont work, and any attempt to do so will be recognized. Note: This does not mean that you cannot role play at all. Try getting into some things that are more fun then serious.
Also, if you aren't familitar which what you are role playing about, then you will appear fake as well. Example: If you are role playing a war (which saddly seems rather common) and you don't know the difference between an uzi and the wizard of oz, you won't have much luck there. Try a few things and toy around with different styles of role play. Also, if you choose to role play a space nation, it is essential to have an immagination and open mind, because unlike modern time role plays which have facts to back them, futuristic space era role plays do not and require much tolerance (which explains why I stear clear of space, I suppose).
"You're wrong! G0dm0dd3r!!!11":
If you are accused of 'godmodding', inquire as to why you are being accused of such. If said accuser can lay out a few good reasons, take them into consideration. Do not, however, automatically give in and reply "ok, what do i have 2 do?". In the long run, that will screw you over because most players that yell godmodder usually aren't well respected, and playing that person's lap dog will not get you respect from other players of NationStates.
If you need help, ask:
Trust me on this: it is better to ask a question like "What do assult rifles fire?" then to not know and go into battle shooting grapes. Unfortunately, many rude hot-shots will put you down, but in the long run, you are better than them.
There is more to role playing than war:
Role play =/= war. Look around the forums and read up on a few threads before starting or joining another thread. Look at styles and customs that other players use. This can help you pick a form and path that you would like to RP the most.
Gr4mmur:
Though many people emphisize proper grammar, punctuation, and spelling, it is not nessesarily to be considered a top priority. As long as people understand what you are talking about, you should be fine. If you need any help writing long posts, feel free to refer to a dictionary or thesaurus, there's no rule against that.
Most importantly, remember that this is a game, and nothing more. Many people have let themselves be driven insane by this game, but just remember: It is all for fun!
I hope this helps you somewhat. I'll add some more topics as they come to me or as I see them happening on the fourms. If you have any suggestions, I'd prefer you telegram them to me first before posting them here (this pertains mainly to new topics and commentary on them. I don't want readers to read something that another user has posted that I don't agree with and/or support in my thread.)
Enjoy!
