The Feazanthian navy has announced today that they plan to design and construct a ship with the single purpose of defending its larger capital ships against incoming missiles. As the modern naval battlefield turns into a hotbed of missiles and aircraft, the Feazanthian gunships are ill-prepared to face the volleys of its enemies.
The new ship, codenamed X-TREMEULTRAKILLERDEATHFRIGATE, will sport advanced radar and anti-missile defense systems. Several designs have been proposed, but none have been approved. The weapons will consist of an assortment of SAM sites, AA machine guns, and possibly even flak cannons. We have yet to decide. The ship will be small, fast, and cheap, allowing for multiple ships to defend a capital ship from almost all missiles in a barrage, and be effective against low-flying aircraft to boot. However, it will be nearly defenseless against conventional assault systems, and carry no offensive armament of its own.
Project expected to take several NS years to complete.
