Parliamentary Elections in the Kingdom of Aberlee.
Reported by the World News:
In the first Parliamentary elections since the old monarchy was dissolved and the new government founded, the Progresive Conservative Party is expected to get more than 60 per cent of the popular vote!
In the new Aberleen system of government, the monarch takes the responsibilities of Head of State, mostly ceremonial, whereas the Premier, which acts as Head of Government, and has significantly more power, is elected by the Parliament, which is elected by the people.
Since the old monarchy, which had many more powers, dissolved itself yesterday, the former monarch's third cousin once removed, Edward IX, has taken temporary control over the Kingdom. As of tommorow, that will all change. A Parliament will be formed, a Premier elected, and a Constitution, severely limiting the powers of the Crown, signed. The Minister for Royal Affairs today expressed concern that the Constitutional Party, a drastically anti-monarchy political party, may get more than 20% of the seats; enough to wield significant influence. He urged the Aberleen populace not to vote for the Constitutionalists, as it will endanger the existance of the only element the country has which dates back more than 500 000 years--- the Crown.

Also, the Constitutional Party Leader, Johnothan Whit, has released this statement:
"My dear citizens,
It deeply hurts me to have to tell you that we have failed. We have not reached our goal of 25%, and I need not tell you why. When a supposedly progressive Crown censures our issues and opinions in front of the nation, it is hard to imagine us not recieving less than forty seats.
There is only one thing we can do: overide the "constitutional" process and establish a true constitution and republic, a government by the people and for the people. In a nation where the people are not permitted speak out against their useless figurehead, one cannot truely be a citizen. In a nation in which the National Motto of "Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity" cannot be upheld, one cannot truely be a citizen.
My dear citizens, I believe I speak for everyone when I tell Edward IX that if he does not dissolve these elections and call for new ones, we will not respect the results, since they were tainted by slander against us!
Good night my dear citizens, and I pray that tomorrow will bring a new, more equal nation."
This speech was approved by the Constitutional Party, who is now calling the elections illegal, and refuses to sign the Constitution. Since the Constitution needs only 80% approval to be signed, however, and since it is expected that the other members of the Parliament will sign it, that threat poses little risk against the Constitution.
In response, the Crown issued a statement stating that the supposed "censuring" of the issues was simply a natural response to a party which has been threatening to destroy one of the branches of government as laid out in the Constitution. It should also be noted that over 93% of the Aberleen populace believed the Constitution, not the Constitutional Party, does a good job of limiting the Crown's powers.
In response to the statement made by the Constitutional Party Leader which stated that he believed most of the populace wanted to overide the Parliamentary process in favor of a Republic, thousands of people have congregated in Fraternity Square, in central Brompton, to support the Crown, showing him that, in reality, most of the populace disagrees with the Constitutional Party.
Elections for Premier are to take place tomorrow. The Crown has declared a "State of Constitutional Emergency".

CIVIL WAR ERUPTS IN ABERLEE!
We have just recieved word that the Constitutional Party (COP) has condemned the Crown's issuance of the "State of Constitutional Emergency".
The COP claims that when the elections ended, the Crown lost all powers of interim head, and now has only the powers granted to him in the Constitution. Although the Constitution does allow the Crown to issue a state of emergency, the COP claims that since the Connstitution has not yet been signed into law, that, too, is illegal.
The COP went on to claim that the elections were completely fallacious and illegal, and that they are pulling out of the Parliament, as it is a "false body". They have elected their own Premier, and have claimed that he is the true head of Aberlee.
Johnothan Whit, former leader of the COP has recently been innagurated as Premier by the COP. The Ministry for Royal Affairs has postponed the handing over of power to the Parliament until Wednesday afternoon so as to be able to deal with the "Constitutional Crisis".
Reports of small firefights in the southern village of Pallcourt between COP loyalists and loyals of the Crown have triggered the the Ministry for Foreign Affairs to send 300 armed infantry troops to Pallcourt.
In the meanwhile, the Progressive Conservative Party (PC) and Liberal Party (LP) have sided with the Crown. The Unionist Party (UP) has not yet made an official statement in regards to this crisis, but is expected to side with the Crown.
Also, most of the army has sided with the Crown, but several important factions of it, such as the Twelfth Division of the Royal Navy, has denounced the Crown and joined the COP, renaming themselves the Capital Navy. Three Divisons of the Royal Army, and nearly 85% of Aberlee's limited Royal Air Force have followed suit.
The Crown has recently declared that Aberlee is in a state of "civil war", and begs the people to defend their ancient Crown. He has not yet asked for international aid, but it is expected that he soon will.
When asked what exactly they are fighting for, the Premier of the COP replied "the Republic of Aberlee, and the execution of the current monarch."

KINGDOM OF ABERLEE IN TROUBLE! CONSTITUTIONAL PARYY SECEDES! CROWN PLEADS FOR INTERNATIONAL AID!
After the initial reports of a firefight in Pallcourt, the Royal Army sent 300 armed infantry troops to quell the uprising. They were, however, unsuccesful, and Pallcourt immediately went under the control of the Constitutional Party (COP)
At 1030h this morning, Johnothan Whit, who was recently unilateraly eleceted Premier by the COP, released this official statement from the village of Pallcourt, a village in the south of the Province of Arsconia, with a population of about 180 000 people.
"My dear citizens,
As of yesterday, me and my fellow constituents have denounced the repressive monarchy and have established a small power base here in Pallcourt. It is from here that we will stage further operations.
Whereas the monarchy has denied us our basic freedoms or liberty, equality, and fraternity, and whereas they have also failed to ensure the peaceful and succesful transition of government, entirely of their own fault, I and my loyal citizens, and you invited, have decided that our Aberlee is not the the king's Aberlee.
In order for us to proseper, we must be able to choose our own Head of State, we must be able to draft our own Constitution, and we must be able to hold our own elections without fear of being slandered and thereby unpopularised by an illegitimate sovereign.
I therefore give Edward IX this ultimatum: either cancel these elections and hold new ones, in which the Constitutional Party is guaranteed at least one-third of the seats, or risk our secession and your ultimate downfall. You will have three hours to answer.
My citizens, I do this not as a belliegerent action to advance my agends, but as a defensive measure to protect your freedoms. I therefore also ask you to lobby the Crown to choose the former option: new, unbiased elections!"
Within minutes hundreds of demonstrators congregated at Fraternity Square to petition for new elections; hundreds more also assembled to denounce the COP and support the Crown. The demonstrators soon clashed and had to be put down by the Royal Constabular.
Only two hours later, the Crown issued this message:
"At times like these, when the entire country is in turmoil, I find it fit to overide protocol, and speak to my people directly.
The COP has recently given me the option of calling for new, undemocratic elections in which they would be guaranteed a near-plurality, or risk their secession.
Consider this: the COP claims that their results were unrepresentative because many people that would have voted for them were turned off by the Ministry of Royal Affair's questioning of their intents. Granted, the Ministry did urge voters not to vote for the COP, but that was simply becuase a COP victory would threaten the stability of this government! After dissolving an old monarchy, and going through a difficut transition, the last thing we needed is for another change-of-government by the COP, who, might I add, was slandering the Crown more viciously than the Ministry ever dreamed of questioning them. I therefore refuse to cancel these election results.
Also, if the COP dares seceed from the Kingdom, we will be sure to quell the uprising, and hold those responsible liable for treason. Let it also be known that the COP seceeding any territory from the Kingdom will be taken as an invasion, as the COP did not win a majority of he votes cast in any province."
Approximately thirty-three minutes after the Crown released that statement, the COP acknowledged their decision, and officially seceeded from the Kingdom of Aberlee, establishing the Republic of Aberlee. They established Pallcourt as their capital, and also claimed that the entire Province of Arsconia is under "Republican control". It shuld be noted that Arsconia is the largest province in Aberlee, and the only one in which the COP recieved more than one-fourth of the votes.
The Crown responded by sending 400 ground troops and thirty war zepplins to Arsconia, where a firefight commenced, and is still occuring. Although the Crown still has control of 74% of the Royal Armed Forces, a sizable chunk has pleadged their alleigance to the Republic.
Only minutes ago, the Crown issued a petiton asking for international aid in the form of financial, military, or peacekeeping forces. As the Royal Armed Forces are small, he is respectfully pleading for generous donations.
The Republic issued a similar petition, asking that nations around the world protect true democracy and republican vales, and not support the "repressive" Crown. Instead, send the troops and monies to aid the Republic.
The Republic has placed the entire Province of Arsconia under martial law, and has, "temporarily" canceled all political freedoms for the sake of the "long-term preservation of democracy."

OOC - I have to say I find this Consitutional Party's theory of government interesting - "we didn't get enough seats in the election, so we'll overthrow the monarchy." :)

OOC: Agreed... I find them funny little people... But then again, I'm trying to see where they are coming from... they say that they couldn't get enough seats because the Ministry fro Royal Affairs slandered their policies, thus turning off their potential voters... they did, howeer, do the same thing... :)

UNIONIST PARTY SPLITS ON CIVIL WAR! FIGHTING CONTINUES!
At 1200h this afternoon, the Unionist Party (UP), the last party to declare its alleigancy to either the Kingdom or the Republic (the Progressive Conservative Party (PC) and the Liberal Party (LP) had already pleadged their alleigance to the Kingdom), released a party statement approved by the Party Leader, Albert Granier, pleadging their alleigance to the Kingdom, as expected. At 1215h, however, the Party's Deputy Leader, in conjunction with twelve other party members, declared their allegieance to the Republic. Thus, thirteen members, or 24% of the UP in Parliament are on the side of the Republic, whereas forty-one, 76% are siding with the Kingdom.
The UP has been lobbying for the last twelve years, since times of the old government, for "devolution" of the nation-- that is, more autonomy for the specific provinces. They have enjoyed great popularity in the Isles of Sascerly, an archipelago of nineteen islands three-hundred miles out to sea from the main island of Arsconia, Erraile, and the Borough of Brompton. The Isles of Sascerly are predominantly Catholic, whereas the State religion is Aberleen Orthodox. The Isles are also 93% Durmian, an ethnic group who, although looking much like the White Caucasians that overun the main island, have a very different culture and history. The provincial government of the Isles has been petitioning the Crown to grant them more autonomy for years.
The thirteen members of the "Republican Unionist Party" (RUP) claim that the best way to secure autonomy for the provinces is to remove the figurehead that binds them together. They are therefre joining the Republic.
The forty-one members of the "Kingdom Unionist Party" (KUP) claim that in order to secure healthy autonomy, they must have something to keep the provinces together, lest they will become independant countries. They are therefore joining the Kingdom.
This also furthers the constitutional crisis. Had the UP united for the Kingdom, the members of Parliament supporting the new constitution, and therefore signing it, would have been 82.82%, a little over the 80.00% needed to ratify it. Now, however, the members of Parliament expected to sign the constitution are only 77.09%, just shy of the necessary threshhold.
The Ministry of State, however, is playing this down. They said that if this continues, the COP will be removed from the Parliament, therefore reducing the number of rebellious seats from Parliament, and allowing the ratification of the constitution.
It begs the question, however: Those that voted COP would be represented by whom?
Meanwhile, fighting continues in Pallcourt. The Republic has lost over 280 soldiers, and has had just over 100 injured. The Kingdom, however, has lost 310 soldiers, and has had 122 injured. All the Kingdom's war zepplins have been lost, and the Kingdom no longer has a working airforce. The Republic, however, maintains a sizeable airforce, comprised of those divisions of the RAF which left the Kingdom to join the Republic.
This is not to say the Kingdom is loosing the battle. 12% of Arsconia has been taken back from the Republic in just two hours. They fear, however, that as they get closer to Pallcourt, the fighting will become more intense.
The Crown has put out another, more desperate petition begging the foreign nations to help. They have already recieved a message offering aid from the Free Land of Schwarzburg, they say, and have replied accepting the aid, but no further word had yet been heard from Schwarzburg.
In Fraternity Square, rioting and fights, both pro- and anti-Crown have continued. The Royal Constabular has been left inutile, and many have joined the rioting. The Crown has yet to suspend the political freedoms of speech and assembly, however. Unlike the Republic, which has temporarily outlawed such acts so as to "protect democracy in the long-term".

We throw our support to the Constitutional Party rebels, and ask them to join our Feline Foundation for revolutionary groups. It is bound to help you out.
We also lift our temporary ban on buying military stuff from our store for them, and give them a 20% discount.
OOC: Looks like you are semi-following the pattern of the French revolution. By throwing our support to the rebels, we influence them to make sure they don't go all Reign of Terror and start guillotining people.

REPUBLIC OF ABERLEE THANKFUL FOR SUPPORT!
The Republic of Aberlee (a.k.a. Constitutional Party) has extended their most thankful gratitude to Feline, and are proud that some nations are still in the fight for true democracy and republic. They will gladly join the Feline Foundation for Revolutionary Groups, and will be buying weapons when they have enough money, says the Republic Premier Johnothan Whit.
The Kingdom responded with stark dissaproval. "It is ridiculous to think that a legitimate country would support rebels which have completely gone against the way our government works. Note that the COP had no problem with the government when they thought they were to win enough seats in Parliament!"
Meanwhile, in Fraternity Sqaure, the fighting has endd, thanks to the Kingdom sending in 1200 troops from the Royal Army. Over 39 000 people were arrested for riots.
In Pallcourt, the Republic has driven out or killed all soldiers from the Kingdom, and has placed those Kingdom soldiers they found injured in the local hospital. They have not commented what they will do with them after their injuries are healed.
OOC: Well, thank you for sparing the citizens from the evil guillotine-thing, which was the course I would ave taken has noone sided with the Republic.
OOC: Also, I'm debating whether I should creat a new nation for the rebels, or keep it all within the Kingdom? Any thoughts? Obviously, the loosing side will immediately go defunct after the war is over... I hate puppet states. If not, I'll simply keep the "Kingdom" if they win, or change it to the "Republic" if the COP wins.

ISLES OF SASCERLY SPLIT IN CIVIL WAR! KING MAKES OFFICIAL PLEA FOR AID!
At 1900h today, five of the nineteen Isles of Sascerly declared their independance from the Kingdom, joining the Republic of Aberlee.
In the controversial Parliamentary elections, all fifty-four seats of the Isles went to the Unionist Party (UP.) Earlier today, the UP split over the issue of this war. Thirteen sided with the Republic, while forty-one sided with the Kingdom. The districts whose Member of Parliaments sided with the Republic have also broken away, and the districts whose MPs stayed within the Kingdom also followed suit.
As of right now, no fighting has occured between the two governments on the archipelago, but unconfirmed reports are claiming that the Kingdom has sent two warships, each with ninety armed soldiers, to the rebellious islands.
The Republic has lauded the movement as "another step towards true democracy."
The Kingdom, now with limited military rescources, has begun to place adds around the capital city of Brompton asking for volunteer militiamen and women. The Republic has yet to take any offensive measures, and therefore is not asking for militas.
Fighting is now at a standstill. Fighting has ended in Pallcourt, with an overwhelming Republican victory, and the Kingdom has taken back 16% of the Arsconia from the Republic.
The King today travelled to the Chancellory of the Commonwealth of Monarchies, and spoke to the comittee; officially asking for aid and the preservation of monarchy. He mentioned the danger that the Republic-Feline alliance poses against the monarchy, and also stated that the best form of government is undoubtedly a monarchy. The Republic has accused him of trying to flee Aberlee. "This should show the people what is truly the best form of government--- one that dosen't leave the country when things get ugly."
