Lietuv Declaration Concerning War on Terror. UnAPS--ATTN.

Lietuveska

Press Release

In order to protect the United Socialist States of Lietuveska from harm and attack, the Blått Hus has dedicated itself to weeding out terrorism in our own borders. The Border Patrol has enacted stricter policies concerning immigration, emigration, and visits. Airport security has been increased to protect from the threat of being attacked.

The Lietuv government has attempted to go about defending our nation without hurting the rights of our citizens. Though there will be many dissatisfied with the new security policies, it can be assumed by the people of Lietuveska that these new measures have been enacted for their own safety.

The scourge of terrorism across the globe has been blossoming and erupting in the past several years as new zeal is placed in the hearts and minds of extremists. A time can be remembered before Lietuv independence that terrorist attacks were infrequent, uncommon, and unconnected. However, that has changed.

The civilized nations of the world are now attempting to hold back attacks from their own nations in an attempt to protect themselves. The globe and galaxy has become a dangerous place for all peace-loving nations. For this reason, Lietuveska wishes to apply for membership in UnAPS.

We feel that we must protect ourselves from danger, and help others be protected from danger as well. By this plea for membership, it is hoped that the USSL may avoid attack from terrorist organizations, or nations that support them, through the threat of facing the entire organization of UnAPS.

To end, Lietuveska must exclaim its profound belief that defense is key, and that all nations have the right to live in freedom, harmony, and peace. Terrorism, domestic and foreign, hurts the ultimate goal of many nations in our world--peace.

The following organizations have been deemed Domestic Terrorist Organizations by the Ministry of Defense: (Note-these organizations exist in Lietuveska)

Christian Freedom Movement
Anarchist Liberation Front
Freedom Of Peoples

--The Christian Freedom Movement, or CFM, has actively engaged in terrorist activities at home and abroad. Chatter has been on the rise within the past few months, but it is hoped that the Lietuv government may dismantle this extremist group that attacks hospitals that use euthanasia and abortion clinics. 81 deaths are blamed on the CFM.

--ALF, or the Anarchist Liberation Front, has actively engaged in terrorist operations in affiliation with the Freedom of Peoples organization. Offering radical views and using violence to express them, ALF openly wishes to dismantle the Lietuv government in favor of no government. ALF has been blamed for 150 deaths.

--Freedom of Peoples, or FOP, has actively engaged in terrorist activities for the past 20 years. Despite constant attempts to dismantle this organization, FOP has stayed alive and persistent throughout the years. The deadliest attack by FOP occurred 16 years ago, with financial aid from ALF. A soccer stadium was attacked, killing 4,210 people and injuring nearly 10,000 others. In total, FOP is blamed for 7,000 deaths in the past 20 years.

These organizations have been named to protect Lietuvs and all visitors to our nation. With an extra $50 billion, it is hoped that the USSL may root out and destroy terrorist organizations within our own home.

May peace, prosperity, and justice thrive!

[Official Press Release following Lietuveska's comments today]

We are pleased that our friends in Lietuveska have applied for membership in the UnAPS alliance... from what we hear many of our allies have spoken well of your nation (along with my own comments) as we are sure your nation will be accepted with open arms.

Meanwhile we understand your growing concern with the political climate of the modern world. Many nations are quick to anger, many terrorists are sprouting up in discontent and the world feels like a much more volitile place.

As such we would like to remind you that Iuthia shall always be willing to assist your nation should there be any problems... for the time being we will allow you to deal with your internal issues as you see fit, though we are prepared to give your government aid should you feel overwhelmed or that you just need a hand.

Feel free to contact us should you feel threatened, Iuthia is always willing lend a hand.

Thanks,

With the negotations with the Lietuv foreign minister underway, we welcome our friend Lietuveska into UnAPS, and is happy that Lietuveska now has a position among many other UnAPS nations. We hope that with this membership, not only relations between Lietuveska and Omzian Nation will be further strengthened, but also that UnAPS will have a further extention of power and voice due to this extra membership.

However, we also understand the growing problem of terrorism around the world. But with this growing anger and mass building of military forces in response to the problem, terrorism will only grow.

With that, Omzian Nation will definately maintain existing relations, and broaden military and diplomatic coopreations with Lietuveska.

OOC: Am I in, or do you mean that UnAPS has lifted me to an entry-level position or something? Or do you simply mean that UnAPS is reviewing my nation's application? :P

The USSL is certainly delighted and honored that UnAPS has gracefully considered our membership. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in pure delight, as are many Lietuvs across the nation. We feel most humbled by the words of Iuthia, and will definately engage to further relations with Iuthia.

As Nathan Korvana is overseas in the Omzian Democratic Republic, we are very excited that we have been welcomed with open arms. Lietuveska is dedicated to achieving closer relations with Omz, and we are very excited at this new opportunity.

Further, the USSL must insist that it does not wish to spread our fight against terrorists beyond our own nation, but fear that foreign terrorist organizations may take Lietuveska as an easy target. The Lietuv government will not imprison those who are suspected of terrorist links, but will send them to reeducation facilities, where they will be treated humanely and taught true values of human society, such as education, justice, peace, and prosperity.

Again, we must graciously thank UnAPS, and we are excited at this new day that has begun.

OOC: Well, there hasn't been much say on the matter yet as most people arn't on yet... but most of the nations I know don't have an objection and getting into UnAPS isn't too hard if half of the nations already like you.

There isn't a definate "yes" right now and it won't go to vote because things are more or less based on whether they fit the requirements and if others object to them or not. There have been no objections and alot of nations have already discussed the idea that they are going to bring you in... I think one even said "Don't ask him in yet, I want to do it" or something like that.

Meh... you get the idea. It should be a walk in the park but no definate answer at this time.

((OOC: You have the distinct advantage that I will soon hold the position of Minister of Membership / whatever we are going to call it. Anyways, full support here. Did you register on the boards already?

Talk to ya later :P ))

Public statement
"The Dutch Democratic Republic of Knootoss fully supports the entry of Lietuveska into the UnAPS. We think this friendly nation will make an excellent addition to the alliance.

It is good to see that our friends choose to organise themselves into one organisation. We hope that UnAPS will one day become a source of stability and peace.

It is also noteworthy that the Republic has come so far in their efforts since they cancelled their membership of the rogue terrorist-supporting CACE alliance. We now fully support their struggle against terrorism and for freedom."

Response in a handwritten letter from Council herself

To Lousewies van der Laan,

Having read the public statement recently released to your government, I felt obliged to express the Corporate stance towards your CACE policy. We know of your past and current struggles with this alliance and its associated treaties and organizations. However, we do not think that calling them:

...the rogue terrorist-supporting CACE alliance.

will help you much. without doubt, you are skilled and schooled in diplomacy and politics, and therefore I hope you understand that the use of such terms and wordings cannot do anything else but worsen your relationship with CACE. Please understand that the Corporation does not concur or associate with the CACE philosophy and look on things, but we do believe that they, like all organization, have the right to be adressed in politically correct manner.

Truly yours,

Council

Knoot's puppet here.

((Fine, I'll just elaborately explain the continuity problem here then. When the election polls were closed the whole 'direction' the coalition negotiations were going to take was an RCPK/SLP cabinet with Galadriël as Prime Minister.

However, at the moment Edolia is making an attempt to form a liberal/socialist/green coalition instead, and even though the chance of it succeeding isn't very big I still cannot go and proclaim explicitly that Galadriël is Prime Minister because then I might have to retcon it later.

The Lietuv application to UnAPS is happening AFTER these events, and as such, this message would have been endorsed NOT by Lousewies but by the new prime minister. (Who, in the case of Galadriel, is much more hostile to the CACE because they are evil in her world view.) Lousewies wouldn't have written such a message. However, by your writing a message to her I would have to reply as Galadriël.

Summary: I've got timelines f*cked up.))

To the Council,

I have received your letter in due order, and I apologise for not having the opportunity to reply earlier. Your concerns are duly noted, and I hope to provide a plausible explanation for our approach to foreign policy with regards to the CACE.

First of all, there is our official stance that has been unaltered since the incident which nearly caused an inter-alliance thermonuclear conflict between SATO and CACE. In accordance with Menelmacari foreign policy, as expressed by the lady Sirithil, we have proclaimed the Arco-nation of SeOCC a rogue nation. We have also established that this nation did and does, indeed, support terrorism. These actions have received no condemnation by other members of the Anticapitalist alliance, to the contrary, they have received their full support.

However, I do recognise your criticism that rogue status does not extend to the entire alliance and that it may hurt relations. However we have come to the conclusion that the chances for any kind of standoff with the CACE are negligible and not worth pursuing. Particularly because of their recent actions to get a resolution pushed through on drugs. In an earlier bilateral meeting we have already informed the council of this situation.

By actively trying to push a UN resolution that is tailormade to hurt the Knootian economy the alliance has proven its own policy of ‘non-interference’ as a hypocritical falsehood. By foolishly trying to destroy our main industry it has shown that it is still hostile to our nation and that it is taking active action to undermine its economy in the name of their ideology. Our government has used great restraint in this matter, and has not even issued a public statement condemning it.

Instead of pursuing relations with the CACE this government believes everything should be done to contain them. They are a danger to the very fabric of our society – the free market – and as such all possible measures should be taken to prevent the spreading of their influence. I implore the council to do the same.

On a personal note, I truly thank you for your concern and we will be sure to take your feelings into account in the future when making policy decisions.

Yours in friendship,

Galadriël Táralóm nos Cirdan
