(This has nothing to do with Western Asia, or anyone else who ICly controls Lebanon. I'm looking for someone to play Lebanon, however, with current Lebanese government and military stats.)
For months now, Lebanon and Al Anbar had been at at odds. Raids by Islamic fundamentalists from Lebanese territory into Al Anbar, a country who is a secular Sunni country, has sparked an incident between the two governments. The Lebanese government refused to stop the cross border attacks, forcing Al Anbar to respond.
Over 150,000 Iraqi troops have been stationed along the Syrian-Lebanese border, with thousands of tanks and armored vehicles. The Labanese government had also prepared for a conflict, now incorporating elements of the Fundamentalists into their own army and calling up reservists. They dug defensive positions along strategic areas and moved tanks into dug out positions.
Now it began.
A recon unit of the Lebanese Army crossed the border and fired on Iraqi positions. The Iraqis returned fire and destroyed the small recon unit. Hours after that, President Saddam Hussein appeared on television notifing Al Anbar that it was now at war with Lebanon for their raid and operations would commence to join the Lebanese people under the banner of pan-Arabism of the Ba'ath Party.
Minutes after the end of the speech on Iraqi television by Saddam, Iraqi 2nd and 3rd Corps crossed the border, moving southward into Halba and Al Qubayyat, while the 4th and 3rd 'Fast Attack' Republican Guard Corps rushed into Al Hirmil and Al Qa'.
