CMBW-02 Sledgehammer (Comments Welcome!)

11-03-2004, 16:29
OOC:
I tried to make it as real as possible, the previous unit, the Artillery Walker, must be redone when possible. I did this one out of pure boredom and made sure it was fair and real as possible. Hopefully, good comments will come forth. If not, I will of course change to be a fair role player. :D

Lets start with comments, people, got another one on its way soon! :)

IC:
We have another Mechanized Unit that we would like to expose, if not show, to you. It has been our continued wish to allow all information to be exposed when the time is right. Now, however, is most definetly the time. Besides the fact this units is taller than the first, and perhaps the first to be scrapped and redone, we have imposed a certain.....quality to this unit.

------------------
Calculations:

One Story equals Nine Feet, or 1 = 9 ft.
1 = 9 ft x Length x Width x Height
Walker Position = WP
-Length x WP + On Back
-Width x WP + On Side
-Height x WP + Standing

So....

Length x WP + On Back x 9 ft. = 18 ft. Length or Two Stories
Width x WP + On Side x 9 ft. = 27 ft. Width or Three Stories
Height x WP + Standing x 9 ft. = 45 ft. Standing or Five Stories

Unloaded Weight Calculated by Multiplying Height by 9.
Loaded Weight Calculated by adding Length, Width, and Height then Multiplying answer by 9.

dude, impressive. very nice indeed. i still have yet to take close look at the listed armaments, but the outward appearance of your machine is definately not to be taken lightly.

nice choice in weapons as well. i would only make one critisism that can be easily brushed aside or ignored. while your power source is sci0fi enough for me, the weapons could be a little less realistic. my favorite weapons for mobile suits/mechs/ect. are energy weapons. lasers, plasma cannons, or maybe, just maybe an ion cannon or positron laser.
12-03-2004, 04:30
I like to keep it as Modern as possible, especially since Hydrogen Ractors could be just around the corner. Weapons are as such so it can be apart of wars fairly, not just a specific Tech, so-to-speak.

With the current metals and such, Sniper Country, it would roughly be 150,000 USD a unit, if not less. Really should be higher, but we have no need for currency much like Motherworld Earth Nations do. It be only a 100,000 increase, meaning 250,000 USD on Motherworld Earth, very cheap for the unit, yet cheap enough to mass produce such a wonderious machine.

Thanks for the question, Keep'em comin! :D

The Hypothesis of Ionic Hyperization was made Theory when a scientific mind, along with others, used an EMF generator to force an Ion to seperate into its basic components, one Proton and one Electron, then forced at amazing speed to be forced back into an Ion, yet with each molecules moving so fast it becomes Hyperized.

With this, plating such Hyperized Ions onto the Surface of a Titanium Substance, such as armor made lightweight, made the Ionic elements stick to the surface in-such that it created an extra firm layer of protection against Beam Attacks, which were done by a Modern-Experimental Hydrogen Laser, and successfully prevented damage. Amazingly, the Hyperized Ions can do so much more, such as regenerate each other and somehow reinforce a place in the armor which is being weakened somehow, such as attacked, and thus reinforced.

The Titanium Armor, made Lightweight through Pro-Modern Experimental means, is about up to five to seven inches thick, enough to be made good.

Thanks for the question, any more need to be explained? Keep'em a'comin!

800 tons!!!!!!! wow only 740 tons heavier then my heaviest deadliest [ by the way they are deadly lol] war machine...whats it made of lead! Depleted uranium heh. might want to edit that to closer to 80 tons, cause this bad boy aint going no where fast heh, not even turning around.
12-03-2004, 05:57
Um.....800 tons.....er.....but.....thats its real weight because of height, weapons, ammo, and whatnot. The Hydrogen Engine can only make it go to 55 MPH when loaded to 800 Tons, you know.....:;sniff::....I am....insulted....lol, j/k.

Actually at that wieght its unlikely, check out Gundam Seed they have nuclear powered gundams and use rela life physics in it, its a remake to the first Gundam series, and everything is Totally technical heh all my Stuff is based on real science and i consistently use things straight out of Gundam Seed as its easier then scanning a pic heh. Anyways but go for the robotech weight, its where it comes from. oh around 60 tons is good heh. Anyways but yes 55 mph is a good walking speed for like a 5 ton walker! not 800 heh more like....5.

Tannelorn uses a Morgenreate Fighter, Semi transformable like a mix of a Beta fighter from robotech and a Excalibur, same arm armament hehe. Anyways it's primary mode of locomotion is flight, at 40 tons its really well armoured armed and the like. Basically max speed in intereceptor ie feet fold up and body faces forward arms come in is mach 12....but it maneuvers about as well as ohhh a brick heh. In robot mode its only just under mach 1 but maneuvers better then anything due to the wonders of the humanoid form. Its main advantage is agility. Also its feet actually produce hover thrust sorta like a heavy gear or whatnot heh.

Anyways this things walking speed is a wopping....32 kmh or about 14 mph. 40 tons and all. my fast walker a bird leg design moves at 450 kmh
with jump jets 100 kmh without so we are talking 50 mph about. it wieghs about 35 tons.

Walkers arent fast by nature but agile and high up. As an artillery walker, you want a 4 legger, like i have heh. i have fought in two wars with those designs recently and they performed very very well, i have the industry to make it work though. Depending on your RP style [ i dont say what my industry cant back up lol] it could be better or worse depending on the limitations you have placed.

but as those things go 800 tons is about 740 tons too many for a heavy walker heh. space manufacturing [we manufacture most morgenreate in space, the other on ground so they are NOT as good]. I would say average it at 60 tons for non zero g manufacturing and make the speed around 30-35 mph and you have as close to a gundam/battlemech as you can get. add jump jets for more maneuver power [depending on powerplant limited or unlimited jumps] or speed and you have a scary, feasible walker with that design.

Now...if it were a Monster mark 2/3 [Macross name M.A.C. II/III robotech]...then you coulds probably get away with saying its 800 tons heh remember thats alot of weight...for a corvette class vessel. Just saying your mech/mecha/mobile suit/frame should never wiegh more then 100 tones [and thats pushing it] so that should help you out a bunch i hope ^.^ I use giant robots, love em and know the RL science behind em now as i obsess lol. most ground walkers are either very small [4-10 tons] or very large and have four legs. That bad boy there needs jump jets and to knock off 740 tons and you have it made, though the speed for walking should be around 30mph/65kmh. That would be the best walker you could make. But with no other Modification, a fix is knock speed and weight down, you got it made.
12-03-2004, 08:31
I see what you mean, and shall now obide by the Battlemech, or Mechwarrior, system of Weight Configeration. 10-100 Tons. Thus, I have lowered the Tonnage. It is updated, so no more faults, no? Tell me if there is more, please. I would love to know. :D

Thanks for the Correctional Commenting! Keep'em Comin! :D

Good heh, yeah i used to be a big Battletech fan, of course only cause i could buy robotech models from them lol. But, Battletech is as good as any to get systems and wieghts and speeds down. Think of it as a big boy and remember Battletech speeds are in KMH ^.^

KMG and MPH are hard to...like....well....make into another. I can't place KPH into MPH quickly, given LOTS of time I might be able, lol. Thanks again for the Comments that led to a GOOD Modification, only once! Been goin good so far, lol, lets keep a'commentin! :D

This is even worse than your artillery walker, and that 'Hyperized' bit sounds like pure, bad scifi.

Ok, lets start with your main armament; those two big cannons on those spindly little arms. Off-axis recoil and the small mountings will lead to massive wear and tear, warping of the joint there, and inacuracy at any sort of range.

Secondly is the sheer number of different weapons; it's stupidly redundent, and you're going to have no room for ammo storage.

Thirdly is the absurdly high profile; you're just begging for an RPG from everyone on the battlefield(if you even sugestthat a 45+ ton(too big for that mass rating, BTW) walker of going to dodge anything, I'll slap you with a fish).

Fourthly, the massivly increased surface area of the hunamoid form will requior something like 70% more armour to yeild the same protection than a tank with the same internal volume

Fifthly, high ground pressure; even if it was only 45 tons(unlikly; it's damn huge), that much weight on one foot will sink into alot of terrain types.

Now, you're claiming that you're trying to keep things realistic(what's with the energy shield then, BTW?), but you're diving into the impracticle with these mecha. Powered armour and tanks should be what you're trying to develop if you want to keep things realistic.

That said, if you're dead-set on fielding mecha, I might be able to help; they'd still be expensive fodder to a decently designed tank or anti-armour infantry, however.
12-03-2004, 14:11
Alright, help me out here, I need it. What should I do with these designs? I wish to make them like Mecha, perhaps like how Heavy Gear makes theirs, big enough to fit a Human standing up, or perhaps not. You can help, just re-do it yourself or give ideas. I would love to be fair in this, every rp I like to. I'll let you see what could he helped, I suppose. :D
12-03-2004, 14:29
I believe doing something like Battle Walkers, big enough as perhaps two stories, one story tall, that it would be like Armor. Instead of massive units, this could benefit the RP ways exceptionally. Hmmm.......tell me what you think all, cause if so these images would LOOK GREAT doing like that.....

Mmmm...nice...

If you wanted to downtech it to lose the Sci-fi element, you could easily replace the EM shield with Chobham 2 armor, or even a slightly upgraded equivulent.

To avoid the threat of missles like the Longbow Hellfire, or its CSJ Upgrade (or even my own Brimstone) which can blow right through C2 armor, you need something that defeats radar painting and IR targetting, because a mech that big is easy meat for certain weapon systems. (Go see my storefront! - this shameless plug brought to you by Specific Engine Industries).

The weapon systems are also easily altered to fit a 'slightly ahead of now' paradigm (although I rather like 'em).

My biggest question is: how do you stop it falling over during an artillery barrage, or similar apocalyptic detonation?
Kanuckistan
12-03-2004, 17:48
Ok, for starters, forget the hunamoid design; maybe something more like the artillery walker you had earlier, with a single 120-145mm recoilless smoothbore on a gyroscopicly stabalised turret to replace the upper arty battery. The side arms would be replaced with ball-turreted .50 cal machine guns to deal with infantry; no joints, and they'd still provide good coverage.

The legs as they are have nice, big feet, but I'm wary about how well they'd fair on rough terrain, and the 'chicken walker' configuration places alot of stress on the joints, increasing wear and tear; if it absoloutly must walk, give it stout, verticly arranged legs and large, semi-articulated feet, prehaps similar in design to those on a timberwolf battlemech. Walkers will never be as fast as tacked/wheeled vehicles by virtue of their less efficent mode of propulsion, so 30mph if probally a good speed on even terrain.

For armour you'd want something that's fairly light and provides decent protection; from modern materials I might sugest a spaced, double layer of ballistic steel/ceramic composite laminate armour. It should provide absoloute protection against most infantry weapons and machine guns, and the outter armour layer would detonate HEAP weapons like RPGs, hopefully disipating the weapon's energy enough in penitrating and over the interviening space to allow the second layer to withstand the blow. Dedicated anti-tanks kinetic weapons and more advanced anti-armour warheads would penitrate, however.

Armour placing would, to keep mass down, concentrate on the front torso, the overall turret, and the front and outside legs; the rest would just be enough to ward off things like small arms and APC/IFV 30mm cannons. Crew would be in the back, behind the engine, providing them with additional protection. Ammunition is stored in the turret and autoloaded; the recoilless cannon itself utalises an open-backed barrel and either perforated-case or caseless rounds, allowing reaction gasses to escape out the back, minimising recoil but signifigantly reducing the potential KE of the projectile; powder load per round could be increased to mitigate the effects.

Vechicle height is no more than 5-6 meters to minise the walker's inherent high-profile liability; a retractible mast mounting secondary sensory gear is located on top of the turret and utalised to increase effective sight range.

This'll basicly be able to serve as a light to medium tank, best suited to hilly terrain. Might make a good ambush platform, crouching behind a hill or other cover while watching with the mast sensors, then rising up to expose the turret and fire. I'd never build it, however, and designing it only served to reinforce how bad mecha are when it comes to combat platforms.

Thank you both for the comment. I have serverly thought this over, and, therefore, have decided upon something that I will dedicate myself to doing. To achieve a satisfing effect on my Fellow Role Players with this design, I shall place time and heart, even soul, in making this the most absolute and best describe mecha design I have done. Meaning, even if I fail, I ask that it still be able to be used with Modern and Pro-Modern Fellow Role Players, even beyound Pro-Modern. I love to Role Play with Veterans and Elites, therefore I try to make what I have downgraded to a level that can participate in these Role Plays. However, since it will be everything I shall put into redesigning this, I as that everyone, all my Fellow Role Players, BARE WITH ME THROUGH THIS SHORT TIME.

I shall and will resign this mecha, to suit yet not to change the design. I will lower the height, yet the image of the Mecha must stay the same. Out of Respect for my Fellow Role Players shall I put my all into this, so, in this time, bare with me.

Thank You, and comment more if you shall wish.

More comments? Sure!

One of the most fun things about seeing these designs is seeing the process of creation.

If you wanted to work on defeating anti-armor weapons, there are a bunch of things that could be done.
(OOC and if you want help...well, I'd be happy to!)

The design makes a great deal of sense if it is downgraded from being a walking MBT to being an Urban Combat platform. The mech design is clearly suited to an area built for legs or wheels (because there will be lots of flat space or terracing to deal with inclines). This would mean that the unit could hide, ambush and take advantage of the tactical situation, plus its restricted speed and agility wouldn't be such an issue.

Think it over, and good luck with the design process. I'll watch with interest.
15-03-2004, 02:38
Mainly its a platform for Urban Combat, such as for Police Use or something like that, and can be loaded with Non-Lethal weapons. So, intern, even if it did go out in the open, it would still survive SOME hits, but not all, as shown in an RP I am doing with two, one of which got hit with a lucky shot by two RPG rounds, blowing off one microwave cannon arm and the King Viper Missile Holder.....bleh....

You can help out if you want, give ideas and whatnot, doesn't matter to me. Keep those Comments a'comin! :D
