Mobile Offshore Base Project Nears Completion

The Elias Marine Corporation is proud to announce that the first three modules of the Mobile Offshore Base project have been compeleted. Several years ago the Ministry of Defence signed a $4,900,000,000 contract to produce 5 modules which can be linked together to form one large base or several smaller ones., in an effort to reduce reliance on foreign nations. The scheme is also relatively cost effective when compared to that of an aircraft carrier or constructing a land base of similar proportions.

The Mobile Offshore Base will enhance the ability of United Elias to provide logistical support for the projection of power and aid worldwide. At the same time, it will lend greater security to the men and women on it. When compared with traditional land bases, this moveable, reusable investment is not subject to the politics of other nations, enabling military equipment to be prepositioned in the theater of interest within 60 days to nearly anywhere in the world.

Design

The Elias Marine Coporation's design concept consists of five semisubmersible single-base units, each one a thousand feet long, that can be connected and disconnected at sea under their own power. The five-unit sea base, fully connected end to end, is nearly a mile long and capable of supporting air operations of a variety of fixed- and rotary-winged aircraft (including large cargo planes) on its 500-foot-wide runway about 120 feet above the water.

The semisubmersible units are self-propelling and transit, each vessel will be able to operate independently, deballasted onto its ship-shaped lower hulls for propulsion efficiency. On reaching an operational theater, the units are ballasted to a deeper draft, submerging the lower hulls so that only the columns, supporting the upper hull, are exposed to the sea. This greatly reduces the motion of each module. The modules will then be connected at the upper hull to form a full unit and to allow some relative motion between units for greater stability.

The individual modules are all identical. All have power generation from a singl pressure water reactor, propulsion, control, cargo handling, and air traffic control systems and are capable of completely independent operation. This multiple system redundancy allows military operations to begin with one module on station and permits smaller operations to be performed with less than a full sea base. For example if only helicopters and V/STOL aircraft are needed, only one moduel will be used.

Each module is self sufficient with a pressure water reactor for power, pump jet propulsors for movement and the short range Shtil SAM system for self defence.

Capabilities

-Stable base holding up to 10,000 personnel, 3,500 vehicles, 5,000 containers, and 150 aircraft. The stowed equipment, supplies, and containers can be completely accessed within thesea base.

-A total of 5 million square feet, with 3.5 million square feet of climate-controlled storage space to preposition 300,000 tons of equipment and supplies with 75 million gallons of fuel.

-Ten all-purpose berths for ocean-going supply vessels, combat ships or submarines.

-A transit speed of 15 knots, enabling individual units to be in theater anywhere in the world within 30 days.

-A capability to transfer cargo in waves up to Sea State 4. Cargo operations accommodates all modern commercial and military cargo vessels, including container ships, roll-on/roll-off, break bulk, and tankers. The MOB can conduct cargo-handling operations to landing craft and causeways up to Sea State 3.

Not at the moment, sorry, they're a real bitch to build since they have to be built on huge docked down barges and in sections. After all no conventional shipyard would ever be big enough.

The United Communist States of Zvarinograd offers the extensive expertise of it's finest logistics professionals from it's Allied Logistics Command (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=130151), seeing as such a platform would require a highly efficient logistics solution to remain cost effective. If your country is interested, please only inquire for me.

Heh, funny.. I'm ballsy enough to construct a shipyard that is capable of building those suckers :p Would be nice to have one, but I don't see the point.

The base is designed to be a logistics hub for a theatre of operations and from it, operational units can be supplied directly. The MoD spends a huge amount on logistics support and we have a very efficient system for this. Thank you for the offer in any case.

The Elias Marine Corporation is pleased to announce that two more modules have been completed.

With a total of five now complete, they will be towed to the Seychelle Islands (controlled by UE) for trials.
