OOC: Just before we get any Nazi things flying around, NO i am not German or a Neo-Nazi. I have recently been reading a number of books and studying in History about the SS fighting Divisions during World War Two. These were NOT the people who guarded the concentration and death camps, and who committed those terrible crimes.
There were infact elite SS Tank and Infantry Divisions that fought hard throughout the war and were very good soldiers.

IC:

The Military Council of the Empire of Imperial Guardsmen has conveened and decided upon the creation of an Elite SS Corps.
This Corps will be the Elite of the Elite, chosen from members of the current Elite, Guards Divisions.

The Corps will be composed of 2 SS Tank Divisions, 2 SS Infantry Division (Mechanized) and an SS Infantry Division (Motorized).

The SS Tank Division "Totemkopf" has already been formed out of the 3rd, 8th and 21st Guards Tank Regiments. The rest of the Divisions are to be established over the coming year. (RL DAY).

More information will be posted as to the formation of these Divisions along with training and other statistics.

Are you going to give your divisions the same names?

One minor point, SS-Totenkopf was originally drawn from camp guard units- the Totenkopf standarte- led by Theodor Eicke. So OOC I'd be careful of that one.

Apart from that many historians agree with your assessment, at least regarding the other Bad Tolz divisions...

OOC: Really?? i was unaware of that, i have a game called hearts of Iron and i just stole that name from it! You wouldnt have any names that were actual pure fighting divisions would you??

Ah HOI!! Great game :D

Herman Goring was a luftwaffe panzer division methinks...

Here's a list for you (hopefully accurate!) Bad Tolz trained divisions (the so called 'classic' divisions marked with a *

1. SS Panzer division Liebstandarte SS Adolf Hitler *
2. SS Panzer division Das Reich *
3. SS Panzer Division Totenkopf *
4. SS Panzergrenadier division SS-Polizei
5. SS Panzer Division Wiking *
7. SS Frewilingen Kavalrie Division Prinz Eugen (volunteer unit, with ethnic Germans from the Blakans. Not a good choice, was responsible for many attrocities in Yugoslavia)
8. SS Panzergrenadier division Florian Geyer
9. SS Panzer division Hohenstaufen (a good division, this; fought at Tarnopol '44 and in the west)
12. SS Panzer division Hitlerjugend
16. SS Panzergrenadier division Goetz von Berlichingen (another famous unit- fought in Normanady)

That's all the units I can remember off the top of my head; there were other units (whose numbers i forget), including:

Maria Theresa, Handschar (notorious Bosnian Muslim unit), Nord, Charlemagne (French volunteer unit), Kama (second Muslim unit- disbanded due to poor training)

Well, that should keep you going! Hope it helps

Forgot to add- in relation to my first comments...

All waffen-SS divisions were front line fighting units, and thus were in theory separate from the branches that ran the death camps etc, who were drawn from the allgemeine SS or specific branches.

The Totenkopf standarten (standarte=regiment) were the original concenration camp guards, in the 30s- ie. NOT the death camps. However, when Himmler expanded the SS, theses men were drawn into a fighting unit, which eventually became the 3 SS panzer division 'Totenkopf'.

As an aside, the original unit was almost wiped out fighting in the Dermyansk pocket in 43, and had to be rebuilt; hence the later personnel of the division (especially after Eicke's death) probably had little or nothing to do with the camps.

Sorry- rambling on a bit; hope that clarifies what i said earlier!!

Not to but in on your post, but I thought I might want to warn you about something. Assuming your SS divisions are going to be near-replicas of the real life ones, you might want to take into account that these weren't "take on 5 billion russian troops and win" soldiers. They were just incredibly ferocious in combat, often fighting to the last man. These weren't people who retreated easily. There was nothing special about their fighting ability, aside from the high casualty rate the units suffered due to their stubborness. So just thought I'd tell you, if you ever deploy these units expect high casualties.

Again, sorry for butting in.
