Political problems in Middle Congo? (invite RP)

Middle Congo

(This RP is automatically open for all Southern Africa nations and those who are involved with us in other RPs.)

The town of Obouya, in the heart of the Congolese swamp region was bustling on market day. 120km from the Commonwealth border and 300km from Brazzerville , the local area was mostly cutoff from the outside world, and for the citizens, elections in AC and war in Gabon seemed as distant and relevant as weather forceasts for Mars.

In the surrouding wetlands, most people were involved in some way in the sugar growing industry and the land was predominantly owned by wealthy people, large companies, government cronies or all three. In the world of President Mabouli's 'free market' conservatism, teh increasingly export driven economy had meant that there was plenty of food to go around but plantation workers often didnt have the money to buy it.

In the centre of town, under the watchful eye of a few police officers, the townsfolk waited in line for bread, fish, rice, vegtables and other food items. However they were the farm managers, the local government officials, the doctors and other small groups of professionals. For them it had never been so good but the peasants lived on a hand to mouth existence, trying to make small amounts of much too expensive food feed their families.

Gerard Bistindou was unusal in that he had been educated in a church schoolf in Oyo but instead of finsing God he had found the texts of Karl Marx, Lenin, Trotsky, Mao and his hero Derek Igomo. His beliefs had soon led to his explusion in a time where communist forces were causing civil war and discontent. For the last eleven years he worked at several fairly well paid jobs such as being a deputy plantation manager, a local lawyer and a sales representative for a Roycelandian sugar company. In hsims time had seen from the inside what President Mambouli was doing and at the same worked out how to fight it.

Now he walked towards the centre of the town, flanked by six good friends and his younger brother. They all carried AKs in their hads and from teh way they were dressed people just assumed they were the military or police or soem other sinister organsiation. Just as they reached the market stalls, they brougt their weapons to bear and gunned down the merchants and several of the shoppers, before killing the police officers who had no time to react.

As the three other men waved their guns in the air, Bistindou rushed up onto some vegetable crates and shouted to all around, "People, stop the injustice, kill the capitalist pigs who starve us while lining their pockets! End the injustice!"

Some had already fled, but many remained and Gerard started sharing out the food, equally to all intrested parties. It was not long though before more police man turned up in a dilapedated Toyota jeep but the eight men fired into the vehiclle killing them.

"People Obuya come out into the streets and take food, then we can end the injustices and take what is rightfully ours. Now we will work for each other and not for the Mambouli and his white friends."

A larger crowd began to form and the practice of stepping over dead bodies to grab food was well known in the country which had seen too much conflict and suffering. As the mob feasted itself on free food, many not having eaten properly in weeks, teh revolutionaries made their way towards the mayor's house, a fairly large buidling and unlike most houses in teh area it was actually made of brick.

Port Imperial, Roycelandian East Africa

Governor-General Philip J. Fry lowered his morning's copy of the Port Imperial Times and took some more of his coffee.

"Kiff, what do you think of this?"

Robert Kiff, Fry's secretary and assistant, was busy reading Intel reports from Lusaka and didn't hear the question.

"Kiff, the thing in Middle Congo..."

Kiff blinked. "What's happened there now?"

Fry told him.

"I'm sure it's nothing to worry about." Kiff said.

"No, Kiff, it's further proof that the African's can't run their own countries, and that it is our Sovereign duty to help them."

Kiff *ahemed* very loudly (he is, after all, African).

"You know what I mean. Send an offer of assistance to the Congo Government, and see if there's anything worth watching at the Movies tonight."

"Of course, Sir..."

Message to the Government of Middle Congo

Roycelandia has noted the recent difficulties in Middle Congo with regards to food availability.

REA has the largest Agricultural Sector in Southern Africa and would be delighted to assist your nation by supplying several hundred tonnes of food and supplies at no cost, as a humanitarian gesture.

We trust that this offer will be of use to you, and will go to the people who need it.

[signed] Robert Kiff, Secretary of Internal Affairs, Port Imperial, Roycelandian East Africa.

(Mainly a tag, because I don't suppose we know much about it just yet. Of course there are now thousands of Lusakan soldiers just across the border in Gabon, should anyone decide to contact them, their commanders, or their government..)

on the Congolese border

Quietly going over the Mshat in his head, Lieutenant Morgan did not really consider that his day might get interesting soon... Commanding one of the largest border garrisons, the "Light 150" consisting of the entire number of ADI-A1 Blackhawk tanks in the army, and 50 HMMWV Avenger cars, he knew he would see the brunt of the action should anything happen with Middle Congo, but that'd never happ...

His thoughts were interrupted by a courier carrying a phone.

"High Defense Council here. Hostilities have broken out in Middle Congo - Likely only a minor matter with some peasants not getting their lot, but we should like the entire northeastern front at War Readiness code 4 - The Secular Party is not happy with Middle Congo's current government, and should the feeling be mutual, we must be able to strike back.".

Morgan accepted his order, and the other end hung up. He looked quizzically at the receiver - Why on earth would the Secular Party get this worked up? There was no logical reason what so ever to fight the Middle Congo. And then... You never knew, and you would NOT want to get on the wrong side of the Party. He started making the necessary preparations to get his entire garrison operational. Should things escalate, he reassured himself, the 66th Mechanized and the 4th Artillery were not far to the south of him.

OOC:

This could get ugly. The Secular Party is still in government and as rabidly expansionist as it ever were, and might get involved. You up for it?

OOC: Currently, the Roycelandian Government is deciding how involved to become... given that the Imperial Guard are somewhat conspicuous (they wear the modern equivalent of Zulu War-era battledress, albeit made of kevlar and other modern, bullet-resistant materials), the Foreign Legion are a little busy in Gabon and elsewhere, and the Colonial Guard... well, they could do it, what with their Khaki uniforms and all, but even so...

Let's see how it turns out, shall we?

I will stop these horrors and mobilize troops in middle congo. I will pull back the troops in forighn lands and send them here to stabilize the region. I will send in 400,000 troops and thousands of tanks, anti artilary, fighter and bomber planes, missels, nukes, and submarians.

Let's all pause for a moment to analyse what's wrong here.

Firstly, this particular RP is Invite-only. Which means that unless you've asked Middle Congo Nicely, or are already invited, you can't participate beyond a "Diplomatic" level (ie the "The Government of *INSERT NATION HERE* strongly deplores these heinous acts and will monitor the situation accordingly.")

Next, the logistical problems of sending 400,000 troops halfway across the world to a country with (effectively) no Infrastructure. Those 400,000 troops need to be fed, clothed, tended to, kept entertainted, supplied, and policed. So, in effect, you're sending 1,000,000 people to a country you have no prior dealings with. Same goes for the Airforce and Navy.

Also bear in mind Middle Congo does not exist in a vacuum. The African Commonwealth, Roycelandia, Lusaka, and Rhodesia & Nyasaland all have VERY large militaries, any of whom would be only too happy to reduce your tanks and aircraft to worthless scrap and beat seven shades of crap out of your troops, should you suddenly arrive in our Continent uninvited in such force as to effectively overthrow the Congolese Government.

Atomic Weapons. Effectively a non-issue. The AC and Roycelandia most certainly have Nukes, and I suspect that Rhodesia & Nyasaland as well as Lusaka have them too. And since everyone has reasonably effective Anti-ICBM defences, your Nukes would be useless. Besides, A-Bombs are so passe... :D

Perhaps you would care to edit your post accordingly?

Oh, and learn to spell whilst you're at it. You'd be surprised how much people's attitude to you will improve...

Military presence on the middle congolese border has escalated slightly, but so far only consists of the regular 'light 150 garrison' and a combined division of Oliphants, mechanized infantry and attached artillery.

In other news, the Secular Party has kindly requested information on the current situation from the congolese government. It would be interesting to know exactly what is going on, and how the Commonwealth is able to "help".

Play nice, Roy!

Oh, did I mention I've produced 20 nuke-tipped iron bombs in the last month alone? ;)

OOC: His Imperial Majesty Emperor Royce I is noted for his sense of humour and wit...

Roycelandia has... a number of Atomic Weapons (and is denying rumours that we have one at the CRRF in case anyone gets any ideas about closing down the facility...). We're also currently experimenting with Cobalt casings, to increase radioactivity, and The World's Smallest Atomic Bomb, capable of taking out a single building and nothing else.

Why bother, you ask? Well, we have to use all that Uranium we've mined for something...

IC: A large number of Maritime Air Service flights have been flying over Middle Congo lately in an effort to get a handle on the situation. Additionally, the 3rd ISAS Jungle Combat Unit (about 50 soldiers) has mysteriously been posted "on Deployment to an undisclosed location outside Roycelandian East Africa."

Just eight hours after the killings at the market, the town of Obouya was awash with revolutionary spirit, and Gerard Bistindou had become its hero. Peasants and farmers from nearby rural areas arrived on foot and in battered trucks, many brandishing ancient shotguns and a few hunting rifles, stolen from their landlords. Mostly they went simply at the propsect of free food but soon they wanted to beoem part of something more.

Now, Bistindou stood outside the mayor's residence, as the last few members of the town council were rouned up and forced up against a large tree along with the mayor and his family. Citizens gathered around throwing stones and branches at them while screaming abuse.

"Now we the people shall have our justice!"

He aimed his AK-47 towards the stoic officials and fired off several bursts, making sure that all seventeen were dead.

"We are free from Mambouli now!"

The town cheered and shouted, and they started to parade through the streets of the small town, believing they had were in fact free.

Meanwhile in Brazzerville, the President having just heard of the news from a terrified magistrate who had escaped to a nearby town, immediately ordered teh rebbellion crushed before it spread. To the international community, onyl denaials would be made. After all teh town was so cutoff the truth would be nbearly impossible to discover.

Therefore, a half hour later, twelve Mi-24 gunships, loaded with elite and highly loyal soldiers from the 'Presidential Special Regiment' started their flight northwards, prepare to butcher whoever they needed to to keep the nation intact.

The twelve PSR (Presidential Special Regiment) Mi-24s flew in aloose formation, very low as they approached the town of Obouya. From their cockpits the town looked peaceful enough except for large concetrations of vehicles trying to get into it along a few of the dirt tracks.

As they passed overhead, they split formation and slowed, before entering slow circles over the area. Since they couldnt fire unless fired upon, they would do their utmost to attract the attention of the communist rebels.

The lead Hind descended sharply towards the main aquare in the city where they could see a massive crowd chanting and waving weapons at the helicopters, perhaps unaware of their enourmous destructive power.
Suddenly a few tracer rounds arced upwards hopelessly missing any of teh helciopters, but taht didnt matter.

"Okay open fire!"

The helicopters then unleahed bursts of cannon fire, targeting everything and everyone. The bullets cut down the people in the town square and caused some of teh trucks and cars to explode, killing many Congolese citizens who had made the mistake of accepting free food.

The gunships then came over for another pass, this time firing off incendiary rockets setting the buidlings ablaze, including thr small medical clinic, the food warehouses and of course countless houses. Instead of landing their troops in anrea hwrre there were so many armed men, the helicopters just peppered the area with destruction and death, setting an example to the rest of Middle Congo.

A few minuets after teh choppers had fianally left, Gerard Bistindou, the hero of the local revolution exited the mayor's house where he knew he'd be safe during the attack becuas e of its much more substantial contruction. Together with a few of his friends and his brother they saw that the place they had grown up and spent most of their lives, had been levelled. All around, teh littered debrisof what had only minutes before been a quiet little African agricultiral town that had liberated itself. He attempted to help a few wounded ciitzens, however having just executed both of the town's doctors himself for alledgedly being part of Mambouli's corrupt government, they would die from lack of care.

While no communication had been received direct from any Congolese parties it was by now apparent to New Lusaka City that troubles in that little nation were severe. Newly established (and as such inexperienced) and still unnamed intelligence agencies were tasked with learning more. Several recruits were drawn from the LRAC 17th Division in Gabon and sent across the border via a Commonwealth detour.

The operatives were far from sure what to expect, and were of course instructed to avoid making enemies wherever possible while following their goal- contact with revolutionary factions in Middle Congo. If rebellion was to come, Igomo wanted to make sure his brand of thinking was injected at some stage, the UARL was seriously in need of continental allies.

(ooc:Uh, nuclear weapons? Yes, we've got..millions of them! Probably. Hiding (under the nerve g..erm..hey look at the time!))

The Roycelandian Government was in a quandary... with an election in the AC, they couldn't just send in the Imperial Guards, shoot the rebels, and be done with it. No, that would seem... Imperialist. Best leave that until after the elections.

The Foreign Legion were too busy in Gabon, so it was decided to hand the Congo situation to the Special Operations Commad, who would be tasked with gathering intel, finding out who was involved, and supplying arms to whichever side was most in agreement with Roycelandia...
