Construction begins on bridge [claiming Singapore]

29-02-2004, 20:59
OOC: This will also serve as my claim to Singapore, so if anyone else had it first let me know....
IC

Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong is overseeing the extension and widening of a massive bridge to the Malaysian mainland, designed to allow more traffic into Singapore and stimulate the slowing Singapuran economy. It is built in, however, with easily defensible positions, so the 'Rock of Singapore' will not become any mire vulnerable to hostile Malaysian or Indonesian attack. Funds are taken from Singapore's fast-growing economy, and the move is seen with general acceptance by the Singapuran community. Tong is attempting to get general support, as he has been critisized in the past for his military build-up.

OOC: My nation includes Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, and other land in that RL area. If Singapore is your nation's homeland, I don't mind you RPing as it (although I'll continue to, too, because it's also an important part of Nianacio...and my scientists will want to investigate your nation to find out how land identical to part of Nianacio appeared elsewhere in the world).

OOC: So can I RP as Singapore in any conflicts where you are not involved? Eh, any chance of me getting it as my homeland exclusively by giving up anything? I.E. rights to a quota of Singapore's port income, availability at any time of Singapore for use by Nianacian armed/civilian forces?

Eh, any chance of me getting it as my homeland exclusively by giving up anything? I.E. rights to a quota of Singapore's port income, availability at any time of Singapore for use by Nianacian armed/civilian forces?Well, Singapore is fairly close to Nianacio's (very ancient) homeland, so it'd have been one of the first areas to be absorbed so long ago. I suppose it could have seceeded, successfully revolted (unlikely), or become semi-independent for some reason, though.

(Tag, due to the appearance of another SE Tiger economy)

Which in itself is very cool. I've noticed that not many people are willing to RP the more obscure Asian states. A shame...

(Heck, no one RPs many asian nations, the only ones I've heard of RPed are Japan and India, Asia is obscure here)
03-03-2004, 06:51
That's true. I guess you have to have some sort of interest in the RL nation to successfully roleplay it for any length of time. I guess the main problem is that we simply don't have many (any?) Asian players.

OOC: Perhaps Singapore could have seceded peacefully, with extensive rights to Nianacio in return?
Jagiellona, I just figured out your nation's name, while reading a history of Poland.

OOC: Perhaps Singapore could have seceded peacefully, with extensive rights to Nianacio in return?OOC: Yes, we just need to think of a good reason.
*Finds a timeline of major events in the 1800s* It seems there were a lot of droughts in Indonesia and Australia in the early-mid 1800s.
Lack of food --> Civil war --> Government gets rebels to quiet down by telling them Singapore is outside the drought zone --> Singapore closes off borders to keep the population from growing beyond a level the island can support --> Nianacio says, "Stop that." --> Singapore says, "We want freedom." --> Nianacio says "You'll have to vote for it." --> Singapore says "Fine," and votes itself out of Nianacio --> Nianacio adds, "But the rest of the nation has to agree." --> Singapore offers land for military bases, a "we'll provide you with military support as long as you properly defend the Nianacia waters that we are in the middle of" pact, a lot of money (they wouldn't have much use for Nianacia money after they secede), and some other stuff, in return for freedom --> Nianacio votes Singapore out if it still wants to leave --> Singapore seceeds and renames itself Greater Singapura
How's that?

That's fine. Thanks.

Since your nation is newly independant and lacks petrochemical self-sufficiency, we have a proosition for you.

We are willing to sell you 700,000 bbl/day of crude oil (actual Singapore consumption) for the very reasonable price of £20 per barrel and deliver it without shipping cost. In return we ask to lease Jurong Island to use it as a small naval/air base in orde to protect our interests in South East Asia. The Elias Pertroleum Corporation is one of the largest oil companies in teh world and has probably the most relaible and quality assured product on the market. Greater Singapura sends its response:

Jurong Island may be lent to United Elias, but will be returned upon request by the Singapuran government. Other than that, we accept your offer and look for a possible extension, as we will need them in the coming battles against Red Khmer guerrilas.
