Sambollaka

Today, left-wing militant groups siezed key points in Sambollaka, the westernmost city of Xawadiland. They cut off all supplies from the city, and declared indedpendance from the United Socialist States of Xawadiland. Their motives for doing this are unclear, but the most likely reason is that the militants felt that President Wadi of Xawadiland was not being as Socialist as his election manifesto had promised. Xawadiland sent a tank platoon to retake the city, but the Militants had obtained Anti-Tank weapons and were able to dig themselves in and destroy the leading tanks. Xawadiland only has a small military, and although they probably would have won the battle, they would have suffered heavy losses of armour they could not afford to lose. President Wadi ordered a retreat from Sambollaka, and instead tried to reason with the rebels. He agreed to give them the city and some of the surrounding countryside, and he would concentrate more of his Socialist policies. In return, the Rebels would return the city to Xawadiland once they felt the government were living up to their promises.
President Wadi is taking a huge risk here, but he has already introduced more social equality policies, and increased unemployment benefit. Whether this will be enough for the rebels is anyone's guess, but Xawadilands forces remain camped on the new Sambollakan border - a sign that the government may yet resort to storming the city.
