Medieval/fantasy RPG invitation thread

Hi, I want to start a new RP game, and I'm looking for players. Here's the deal:
1) We play a medieval/fantasy game, so no tanks and stuff like that
2) All players must have a population of at least 60 million (no total newbies!)
3) Besides me, only 4 more players are allowed, and each will represent one nation
4) Your NS size does not matter here. Your pop. will be defined by the rules that will follow.

This is the map:
http://www.freewebs.com/csabaland/invite.jpg
http://www.freewebs.com/csabaland/invite.jpg

This is a continent and an island. The rest of the continent is terra incognita, and players cannot draw resources from "out of nowhere". Let's imagine it is a huge desert that cannot be passed.

The red dots are cities. Big dots are for big cities (pop>50,000), the rest are smaller. I have only named my own cities, you will have to name yours yourself. The Holy River and the Blue River are not crossable on foot (there are no bridges). The only way to cross them is to hire boatmen in the two big cities or in the city of Kish. You can of course RP that you have brought engineers with yourself and build pontoon bridges for temporary use.

You can consider that all mountains are heavily forested, so that is where you can gather wood from. There are also small forests in the plains (not marked on the map).

Country 4 can cross into the rest of the map only through the pass at Fort Vad; or if provided by ships and cross throught sea. Mountains are highly unpassable, and an army will go 3 times slower if crossing through mountains. Defending nations can also build forts on mountains and make them unpassable.
Country 2 can enter into the rest of the map by passing through the beach on the north or the undefended, narrow passing on the south.
Nation 1 can enter the rest of the map with ships. He can also station an army in the coastal city on the continent.

OK, and finally here's the storyline:
The borderlands of Szabad is not actually a country, it is more like the Scythians - raiders in one loose confederation. Most of the lands is unpopulated, so even though they have the largest territory, they also have the smallest population.
Nation 1 has the largest population, and to avoid starvation they will have to move into Szabad for new land. In their way is Nation 3, who should be a defensive nation with lots of forts and such. They are friendly towards Szabadians because the two people share the same origin. Nation 4 on the north can be the ally of Nation 1, but they have to take Fort Vad first, which is not that easy, since it's the most fortified city on the map. Nation 2 can decide on whose side they want to be, but they cannot launch huge invasions because Mount Scream is in their way.

Nation 1 has, of course, the largest fleet. Nation 3 has river-boats. Nations 2 and 4 either have no fleet or must relly on pirates or merchants, or some other nation for sea transportation.

The story beings with Nation 1 and 3 at war, the rest are neutral.

Some rules:
1) As I already said, large cities have pop. ~ 50,000, while the smaller ones have < 20,000.
A huge army is considered to be around 50,000.
A large army has around 20,000 men under arms.
An average army has around 8,000-10,000
Small armies have <5,000
Raiding parties have <1,000
Total army size cannot be >100,000

2) Your population will not grow. If you lose 50,000 men in a battle, you're basically defeated, and will either have to settle for peace or be invaded. You can gather a new, smaller army after some time passes.

3) Most soldiers will be on foot. Only Szabad has an overwhelming majority of horsemen. Nations should keep their cavalry at about <15% of their army size.

4) You can use magic in small amounts. No devasting powers. Heros are allowed, but no immortal beings. You can have "special races", like kentaurs, elves, trolls and such, if you want to that is.

5) No gunpowder.

6) You can build forts. Wooden forts are build fast. Stone forts are built especially slow, in a way that you shouldn't even start one, because you won't finish it until the end of the game.

7) Please, don't godmode!

OK, I'm waiting for players! You can TG me, but it is better if you post here. You need to claim one nation, and write the city names, special characters (your king, your hero, your princess, your hairy monster etc.), starting army size (and in case of nation 1, where it is located)...

I will post the stats for Szabad after this post.

If I had my old nation, I'd join this.
However, I think it got purged.
Mainly because I stopped using it last year. Or the year before that.
I don't even remember its name!!
However... *Points to current population*

OK, so you guys took the two most powerful nations :)

We still need players for nation 2 and 4. Come on people, they are interesting too, consider all the stuff you need to do to actually get to fighting. This RPG won't be about wars only, I'll add a short storyline about magic-stones-that-could-decide-everything and stuff like that once we start, so you'll need heros to prevent the other side from geting the magic stone, while in the meantime your armies are preparing to fight...

I'd like to take nation 2, but I'd like to customise it a bit, but not in any way to conflict with Szabad's description. The ruling class of the nation, which I will call Traladara, is of the same stock as the people of Szabad and are here called Szekelys, but they only constitute 14% of the total population, the rest being of Traladaran origin. The land is ruled from Castle Csejthe by the Countess Erszebet Bathory (ie: me), reputed to be a powerful sorceress and vampire, feared by all in Traladara. The Countess is very interested in obtaining items of occult significance and is highly opportunistic in politics, and so may support either side in any war. However, her highest priority is maintaining control over Traladara itself, so the army has developed with internal security as its main aim.

Principality of Traladara

Ruler: Countess Erszebet Bathory (VAMPIRE)

Total Population: 129,000

Towns: Szombathely (pop. 26,000) in the mountains
Marilenev (pop. 38,000) on the river

Army: 14,000 (standing), 35,000 (emergency maximum)

10,000 standing infantry, 2000 light cavalry, 2000 crossbowmen

General: Ferencz Nadasdy (HUMAN/SZEKELY) who possesses an extraordinary ability to motivate troops to fight

Sorceress: Anna Darvulia (HUMAN/SZEKELY), adept at controlling the elements

Fortresses: Csejthe Castle (stone castle with moat and towers) 7 miles west of Szombathely

Fort Eszek (stone keep with wooden palisade) on the tor commanding the pass between Mount Scream and the sea

Harkuncz Castle (wooden motte and bailey castle) on the Pass of Eagles south of Mount Scream

Major resources: iron mines on Mount Scream, small-scale timber felling nearby, minor gold deposit near Marilenev, bulk of population engaged in agriculture

Could I be nation 4 since I have no idea what Grand Hungry said I am a little sad that I have no navy but I will ask to be an Elvan race that is used to the harsh necessities of their lands. I also think that I should have a lot of cavalry because nations that lived high up in the mountains had lots of small horses. Since no other nation seems to be joining I will assume this is OK

KING: Lord Stefan Farseer. Has an ability to see the possible futures. (Not that good really as it just shows what the possible consequences would be of doing something.)
CAPITAL: Calador City in Sky (It is on a very tall mountain and the one at the very back of the map. Pop 40,000, since it is my capital i should be able to have this number)
CITYS:
Arniron (Pop 19,000) the one furthest away from fort Vad.
Phoenix Gate (Pop 16,000)
Other settlements around not worth mentioning. but all up Our population would be about 200,000 cause I have many small settlements around with 1000 to 3000 pop so don't callenge this.
ARMY: 10,000 at the Phoenix Gaye and more in other settlements. All have Longbows and some sort of hand weapon (sword, axe ECT) and all in the Phoenix Gate armour of some sort. Approx 30,000 Men in the army but many have some sort of training.
HERO: Lord Yerul Shadowblade. Has a sword that has pitch black meatal with Golden runes on it. Is the last of the great race of Eldar therefore is 1 of the greatest swordsmen alive. Rides a Griffon to battle.
WIZZARD: Macros the Black. Is the only person to learn I the Black Tower (most of our Sorcerers train in the white tower) have many skills unknown even to the King Stefan.

Some interesting facts about our race: we are not elves. We are spices like elves but look like a cross between elves and man. We are not this either we are Morethadel (short lived elves) and are called this because we fight a lot of battles.

Yay, we've got enough players! :D
I hope Barrel Rollia and Super American VX Man will post their stats soon. Anyway, I was thinking about the game starting on Monday, Tuesday the latest. It depends when all the stats will be posted. Here's a few comments:

Lessr Tsurani - Didn't you overdo on your cities pop. size? They should be in thousands, not millions :). Anyway, I'll assume that for example Arniron has a pop. of 11 thousand, not 11 million. Anyway, I'm glad we have elves too.

Erzsebet - I think the Hungarian city names will be complicated for the non-Hungarian players, but I don't mind as long as the others don't mind. 8) The Szekelys are controlling the majority Traladara, who are in turn not soldiers themselves?

I hope Nation 3 will be of human race, but that's not really up to me.
When all players submit their stats I will redraw the map, and then we'll start the game...

I am sorry but I didn't see that it was thousands and belived it to be millions. I have made the changes but would like 1 city (my capital) to be a major city. Also I should get more cavlry since I have very hilly terrain the best horses come from that terrain. Ialso have 50,000 troops I can call apon to ut only use 30,000 most of the time. 20,000 gard the pass and the rest are scattered out of the kingdom. I use 30,000 as my attacking army and 20,000 as my defending. that means if I am defeted in combat I still have 20,000 troops defending a very small pass. tell me if this is godmodding
Szabad
29-02-2004, 16:07
It's not godmodding, I never said you can't have reserve troops, only that you cannot have them in millions. If the game works out ok there won't be any decisive battle until the very end. The game begins with Nation 1 and 3 at war, with Nation 1 trying to defeat Nation 3 to get to the borderlands of Szabad. The other nations don't have to be at war at all if they chose to, they can send small troops to aide one side or attack both sides or whatever. So for example you can chose to ally with Nation 1 and raid the countryside of Nation 3, so there won't be any decisive battles unless Nation 3 sends a large army against you (or if I declare war on you :) )

Anyway, the goals of the game are:
Nation 1 will win if they defeat Nation 3 and Szabad.
Nation 3 will win if they defeat Nation 1 (decisively).
Nation 2 and 4, as well as myself will win if they archive regional supremacy by undermining the rest.
But there doesn't have to be a clear winner. The point is to have fun.

On the matter of horses. I don't know how can horses come from mountainous regions. You know their species come from Central Asia, where the world's largest plains are. Because you have a mountainous region you should have even less horses than the other nations. You should rely on footmen, traps and forrest fires if you are defending yourself, and archers, axemen and catapults if you are attacking.
Btw. since you're quasi-elven (j/k :D ) you should have archers and not cavalry, not?

On the matter of one large city: ok, but it should be somewhere up north. Is it ok if I place it on the coastline?

Just for the record, the large city above Fort Kharak used to be your city, but Nation 1 took it in some previous war (and probably sold the population into slavery, since he's supposed to be Orc). You are supposed to be a defensive nation, so you can have more forts (not cities). If you want you can draw them on the map, or you can let me draw them wherever I want to :o

Country - Morga
Population - 229,000

Ruler: Masta Rarg
Capital: Orga - 60,000
Cities:
Maggat - 43,000
Walla - 40,000
Ugorla - 39,000
Horg - 32,000
(And then various small villages and such that come to about 15,000)
Army: Total - 51,000
Warrior Orcs (axes, swords, etc) - 35,000
Ranged Orcs (small/medium bows, javelins, slings, etc) - 10,000
Artillery Orcs (catapults, trebuchets, etc) - 5,000
Trolls - 1,000
Navy - whatever can be hired

Hero: Warboss Naga - Larger than your standard Orc (about 2/3 the size of a Troll), can use his war hammer to create small fissures in the ground and stun nearby enemies with the shockwave. Heals fairly rapidly (mortal wounds that don't kill him right off can heal in about a day).
Large, Hairy Creature: Crusha - A mutated Orc, about twice the size of a Troll with extremely tough skin. Can wield trees, boulders, or his specialized massive war axe.
Wizard: Majika - Compared to most other wielders of magic, he's not the best. However, he has mastered fire fairly well.
29-02-2004, 21:18
My big hairy monster will be posted later.
29-02-2004, 22:15
Ruler: Baron Venom
Capital: Venatir City (pop. 50,000)
Cities:
Port Kharak (pop. 10,000) (Near Country 1’s Major city)
Fort Zekuth (pop. 20,000) (Lower west city)
Ferkrin City (pop. 7,000) (Northeast city)
Army: Total 32,000
-20,000 warriors (Basic soldiers. Well trained and usually good with lances and swords)
-7,000 archers (Basic ranged soldiers. Decently accurate and not likely to hit their own soldiers. Usually use short bows)
-1,000 Silencers (Elite Warriors)
-1,000 Sniper Elites (Elite Archers)
-1,000 Longbow Archers (Skills are between Elites and generics, equipped with longbows)
-500 mounted soldiers (250 warriors, 250 archers)
-1,500 Pirate Navy, based in Fort Zekuth

Hero: Kiro Blackhand; uses a handaxe and a huge battle axe. He is most famous for that if he throws his handaxe the right way, it will cut through almost anything while it travels in a circle. Known to be a bit too arrogant for his own good, though with good reason. He is able to move inhumanly fast. He doesn’t wear armor because he doesn’t need it (he prefers to dodge attacks).
Wizard: Jerek Hellburn; Pyromancer
Big Hairy Thing: The 'monster' of the country is the Tarrifask (Tah-rih-fahsk). It's like a completely black tiger. Known to be a sort of 'pet' for the Baron.

Traladarans actually ARE allowed to fight in my army (in fact they constitute the vast bulk of my forces), but may not be trained for leadership (the officer corps is entirely Szekely as are my two elite units). My basic army unit is called the Banner, which comprises 500 men. Elite units are;
500 fully armoured knights
500 Guard infantrymen (the Royal Guard Banner)
These are both included in my earlier post on army size

My army also has 2000 garrison soldiers, not included in the earlier post 1000 in each of the two fortresses on the north and south of Mount Scream, but these are generally not permitted to be used in a war of movement. Historically, Traladara has made heavy use of mercenary soldiers in its wars, but the number it can hire is of course always dependent on the strength of the economy (currency unit: the crown)

Oh, and our big hairy monster:

One kraken (the suckers on its tentacles drain people's blood) off the coast, controlled by the magicks of the Countess and Anna Darvulia, that helps protect our coastline from Orc and pirate raids. It can be commanded by its controllers, but it takes both of them to achieve this.

Jò Ilona stood on the tor overlooking the town of Szombathely, wondering if she would ever see it again. The mission she had received from Countess Bathory herself was of the utmost importance, yet Jó Ilona still doubted she would even find the fabled Gem of Amara. Szekely and Traladaran legend says that simply wearing the Gem would make a vampire unkillable, even immune to the effects of sunlight, so it was of course of the greatest interest to the "Blood Countess". A traveller in the lands of Traladara had mentioned the Gem in his fevered ranting about his recent escape from an Ice Giant in the far land of Szabad, and when the Countess had heard the tales, she had instantly ordered Jó Ilona to find and retrieve the Gem. With one final, wistful look back at her hometown, Jó Ilona set off into the night on her quest...

"Masta, we'z got no food no more. We'za gonna starve if nuttin' done. What we do?"

"Shuddup! Youza all bitchin' all da time! We be fine! Get outta here!"

The complaining Orc grumbled and turned around, stomping out of the messy throne room. Masta Rarg threw a nearby bone from his recent meal at the door once the other Orc left. It was true, though; Morga was in a state of near-desperation. With the growing Orc population, as well as the wasteful and inefficient use of resources common to Orcish societies, the basic supplies, most notably food, were rapidly disappearing. Rarg knew this, but didn't have the brain capacity to address the problem before he got bored. However, this was the fifth time today that someone had complained, so, in order to get them out of his face, Rarg knew that he had to solve the problem, or kill everyone. Option two was easy and fun, but...eh, he'd call Majika into the throne room. His wizard was much smarter than the average Orc, and would know what to do.

"MAJIKA!"

His deep voice bellowed throughout most of the fortress. Within a minute, the Orcish Wizard came through the door.

"Ya, Masta? What ya want?"

"Dey dumb Orcz keepa moanin' 'bout da food. Dey'z gettin' annoyin'. I want ya to end da problem. Now!"

"Ok, Masta. I thinkz I got an idea. How 'bout we just fight da oderz?"

"Whaddyaz mean?"

"We killa da humiez and elveiz and oderz. We grabba der land and food and stuff. How'z dat?"

Rarg scratched his head for a moment, then made a large, evil grin.

"I likez it."

Stefan picked up a new book hoping this one would be more fruitful than the others. He found it strang that none of the books had records of what happened in the sunndeing, When the Black king rose aganst the Phoenix King and almost destroyed the world. He had heard the story many times but everyone said that the Black kings army was weak and that the Sunndering was the cowards way out. However he had read in a Dark ones book that their armys where bigger than That of the Phoenix kings. So he wanted an account of it from an outsider. He had heard of such a book in the relm of Szabad and had sent The Unmaker to get it. He new that theUnmaker would be able to defend himself without making to much of a fuss like blowing apart a full city because a robber had stood him up otr killing 20 people so that he could walk into the capital and demand the book of witch he didn't even Know where it was. The Unmaker was revy human like and would not b attacked. ANd if he was he would probably just make the people disappear and walk away.

In Szabad.

The Unmaker was in a bar. He had made freindly convisation with the barman and was pretending to look as if he where drinking lots. He had made all of the alchahol in the ale dissaper and so he got the tast without getting Drunk.
"Felling lucky old man" yelled a of duty watchmen.
"Yes actually I am, You want a few games." He replied seeing the man was drunk. He was never told he could not make a few extra coins beating a man in cards.

All gathered in the throne room of Castle Csejthe shook with fear at Countess Bathory's quite obvious rage. Admittedly, the news was bad; a small pirate band of orcs, no more than 50, had raided the village of Glogow, on Traladara's northern coast. The orcs had razed the village and carried off the local harvest, proving that the rumours of famine in the orc lands were well founded.

These insolent pirates would have to be shown what it meant to incur the countess' displeasure. Accordingly, Countess Bathory then stormed off to her occult library deep in the castle, calling for Anna Darvulia, the court sorceress. The two then set to work, tuning their minds to instruct the countess' pet kraken to exterminate the attackers. In their minds, the sorceresses saw the kraken capsize the orcs' boat, then proceed to drain them of their blood before eating the corpses. Countess Bathory was well satisfied, but disturbed. It was all very well destroying a small band of raiders, but could she deal with a full-scale invasion? She sighed deeply and retired to her chambers. Seeing such a massacre always made her feel thirsty. Calling her soldiers to bring her up a serving-girl, the countess relaxed. The orc problem could wait until tomorrow.....

After five days' hard slog, Jó Ilona had finally made it to the border fortress of Harkuncz, where she hoped to rest for a time before crossing into the Borderlands of Szabad. The fortress was admittedly only a wooden motte and bailey castle with a moat, but Jó Ilona knew it and its two defending Banners had withstood more than one siege. The guards at the gates recognised the national heroine of Traladara and saluted her on her entry. For the next week, Jó Ilona was feted and dined royally by the castle commandant, in addition to being provided with more supplies and equipment for her quest. On her departure, Jó Ilona was given three cheers by the entire castle garrison. She permitted herself an ironic smile. How interesting these men should cheer her on into Szabad when she herself doubted she would ever return this far, let alone all the way to Castle Csejthe!

Once Rarg heard about the failure of the raiding party, he knew he had to somehow get rid of the Kraken. As long as it patrolled the enemy shores, his Orcs would have no safe way to get the supplies they needed. He called in one of his top generals to help formulate a strategy to kill it.

"Dey'z gotta huge monster. It killa all da crew from da raidin' party. I wantz da ting gone."

The general thought about it for a few moments, then came up with an idea.

"We'z can use Trollz. Dey can use da big bows, an' hunt da monster. Dey killa anytin' good."

"How'z dey gonna get da monster? It be'z sneaky."

"We'z got Orcz. Dey can distract da monster, an' da Trollz can shoota it."

"Dat'z a good idea. If dis works, I'z gonna promote ya."

Within a day, all of the supplies needed for the mission were being collected. The Orcs had rented boats from pirates for a "flesh-rippin' bargain." The Trolls selected the best giant bows that they could lay their hands on. With the bows made from oak saplings, the arrows themselves made from smaller saplings, and arrowheads made from quartz that were almost the size of an Orc, the Trolls were ready to go. Four small boats were loaded with five Orcs each, who would enter the enemy territory and raid what small coastal villages they could find, and then the larger Troll ships, loaded with fifteen other Orcs who would run the ships, would follow. The small boats would try to raise enough ruckus to attract the Kraken, and once it attacked, the Trolls would begin the hunt. All of the Orcs were given large spears to try and fend for themselves until the Trolls could score a few hits. Once everything was prepared, they were sent on their way.

Notes about Baron Venom:
Venom is more laid back etc. than most leaders.
He's more than capable of taking care of himself in a fight.
He has light magic ability, namely with a spell that slows falls.

"My Lady", called out Anna Darvulia, a few weeks after the orcish attack. "The Orcs have returned with small raiding boats and are attacking our coastal villages". The countess' scream of rage was heard all over the castle. Strategically, the attacks were not that damaging, as less than 2% of Traladara's population lived on the coast. However, Countess Bathory's pride was hurt, and that was not good. "We will call on the kraken again and it will teach these raider scum I am not to be trifled with", she raged. The two sorceresses accordingly left for the countess' occult chamber and began the summoning spell for the kraken, directing it to attack one of the raiding parties. The orcs would know true terror, and then they would die horribly...

"Der it is! Shoota!"

The Trolls, alerted by the spotting Orc's yell, pick up their bows and each fit an arrow in quick succession and release. Before the arrows even get to their destinations, the Trolls already get another round ready.

Two of the kraken's huge tentacles came crashing down onto one of the small boats of Orcs, smashing it and knocking all five Orcs into the water. Other tentacles wrapped around the struggling Orcs, draining them of their blood before dropping their desiccated corpses into the kraken's huge beak. Then the arrows struck the creature. The kraken roared in pain as one hit it in its beak, and turned to face its tormentors, smashing another orc boat as it went and draining the crewmen of their lifeblood.

The Trolls fired again and again as the beast swam towards them. The smaller Orcs were picking up spears and javelins, ready to throw in their own meager resistance if the Kraken made it to the boats. One of the Trolls took careful aim for his fourth arrow, and let loose a powerful shot towards the eye of the creature.

The kraken roared in anger and pain as the arrow hit it square in the eye. The wounds would heal in time, but it would take a long rest period (several months) for that to happen. The beast suddenly broke off its attack and dived, according to the orders of its mistresses who did not want it to suffer any further pain. It would remain out of commission for the foreseeable future.

Countess Bathory rose from her seat, pure rage flashing in her eyes. "Their pathetic tricks will not stop me from exterminating every last one of them", she thundered. Calling a messenger, the countess gave the order for partial military mobilisation to guard the northern coast of Traladara. Turning to Anna Darvulia, she also gave a different command. "Have the secret weapons prepared". "Immediately, my Lady", answered Anna in an awed voice. "The orcs will see our magical arsenal is not quite spent..."

Stefan looked around the council room. It was good to see every one but he had no time for this.

"Yerul, How soon can we move into Szabard. I want to know if we should request an alliance or just move to the river through the montines." He asked with a casual tone.

"I would suggest we just close the gate and then go to the river. If I do that I could have other ships to transport them within a few days. However I would not suggest such an attack now. We need to bread more Dragons."

Macros was the next to speak and what he said was Almost blasphemy.
"By Sigmars hammer we will be waiting almost 700 years for the numbers to be at least 300. We must use the assassin gared and Griffon Gaerd to replace them."

“Very well we will wait for a while. Wait for the Humans and orcs to finish each other off before we attack." Said Stefan Coolly.

I'm in the bottom left corner of the map, to a large extent cut off by Mount Scream. I have a small, thinly-populated coastline, most of the population lives along the Ruby River, on which both the major cities of Traladara are located. I'm on the other side of the map from Lessr Tsurani.

General Ferencz Nadasdy arrived in the throne room at Csejthe Castle and reported to Countess Bathory that 36 Banners of the army had been mobilised (that's 18,000 men) along the coast to repel any future orc landings. Forced resettlement programs were already underway to evacuate the remaining coastal population to the interior, to minimise casualties from any orc attacks. "I want you and your men to begin building a new stone fortress to guard the mouth of the Ruby River in addition to small watchtowers along the coast", ordered the countess. "We cannot afford to be taken by surprise". "Certainly, your Highness", answered the general. "But where are we to find the cash for this endeavour?". "That is not a problem", replied his liege. "I have plenty of crowns saved for just such an undertaking". "The works shall begin immediately", promised General Nadasdy, and with a flourish he left the chamber calling on the way for his personal coach to be made ready.

Countess Bathory allowed herself a private snigger. Those wretched orcs would learn the hard way not to rouse her ire when her secret weapon was unleashed on their unsuspecting heads....

The Orcs began their sea-crossing. They traveled in large galleys, sending 1,000 total warriors in the first wave. They struck at the coastal villages they encountered, killing everyone there, pillaging all supplies, and then reinforcing the villages into small outpost bases as launch-points for the waves that would follow.

Jó Ilona continued her voyage east toward Oryas, the sand caking her boots as she trudged through the western wastes of Szabad. The few peasants she had met so far had not been very helpful, despite her best attempts at Szabadian. She sighed to herself, and willed her tired feet to carry on. After another week and a half, she finally saw the distant city of Oryas. Jó Ilona quickened her pace. Oryas was the first stage in her quest to recover the Gem of Amara, as the traveller who had first informed Countess Bathory of the Gem's existence had, under torture, revealed the source of his information was resident in that city. "Now I must ask around here", thought Jó Ilona to herself. "This will not be easy either". She entered the city gates, and immediately proceeded to the nearest tavern.
