History Timeline
100 Years previously, EG 1900=1800 our time
18(17)64 :: Hogsweat Enters Anarchy, government is distraught, the country is abandoned although the population continues to grow from 164 Million citizens – The military is also abandoned and the people fend for themselves, forming several major tribes – The Verskoyles, the Vlaszlys, the Kirfalovs, and the Valkadays, and their descendents still exist today, centuries later.
18(17)72:: The peoples are divided, into North Hogsweat and South Hogsweat, the first being one half a wasteland, and the other a lush background, the latter being rainforests and forests. They are separated by the Hoggian Sea.
18(17)74:: The Great War – tensions strain between the Kirfalovs of South Hogsweat, and the Valkadays of North Hogsweat – both are to become of great interest in the Hogsweatian people.
18(17)80:: Both sides begin to gather forces, and the first great confrontation in Hogsweat history begins.
18(17)81:: The war starts – Kirfalov Andranti sends his men to the home town of Valkaday, Muscovia. The siege of Muscovia begins, a bloody battle which will last eight years. Valkaday sends his men by boat around the cape of South Hogsweat, and they hit the capital, Kirfanilov City. However, the force is beaten back, and the remnants of the attack subside into the jungle for frequent raids.
18(17)87:: The South, also named the Greenboys, because of their many forests, begin to lose at Muscovia. Approximately fourteen thousand men, of the North and the South are killed in the Muscovia Main Square, a site today visited by the same number every month.
18(17)88:: Another force relieves the Kingsmen (The North had become a monarchy, with Valkaday as the king.), and now the Kingsmen number in the South had risen to 14,000 ready trained musketeers, with 800 Cannon and 20 Siege Weapons, such as Howitzers and Flameshooters.
18(17)88:: The Southerners in Muscovia are all but beaten back, and the Muscovian docks change hands ninety times in two days. Reinforcements are streaming in from Hogsingrad, who had broken their siege, but none arrived from Smohogensk, and neither had word. Valkaday feared that Smohogensk had fallen.
18(17)88:: Valkaday’s fears were realized as a survivor from Smohogensk crawled back to Hogsingrad, two weeks later, ( Muscovian Docks had changed hands four hundred and eighty times by then, and the Southerners in Muscovia had decreased from twenty thousand to just one thousand five hundred, and with hundreds of young Kingsmen (as they were now called, the equivalent of a musketeer) arriving every day at the docks, the siege of Muscovia had seemed to end. It was also recognized that an extremely large force of Southerners, led by General Verskoyle Gurmain, 30,000 in number, had taken Smohogensk with rapid speed, the five hundred strong garrison, although armed with cannon and fireshooter, where easily overrun by Gurmains strong force. The Southerners, leaving only a small garrison of one thousand men, were now advancing through the Alkatain mountains and in two days would reach the Grand River Hog and its Tributaries – and in a further three days would be at Muscovia, and all hope would be lost. Just as the Northerners had thought victory was imminent, danger loomed over. However, the Southerners weren’t expecting the ferocity of the Alkatainian people.
18(17)88::
The twenty nine thousand strong Southerners had advanced nearly through the Alkatain mountains, when forward scouts found a small force, only eighteen hundred men, were blockading the pass. Verskoyle had a choice – fight the Alkatanians, who were outnumbered by at least twelve to one, or go round, costing him an extra day. Verskoyle chose to fight, and that was his grave mistake. Already cavalry from Hogsingrad had reached Smohogensk, and were mopping up the Garrison. A force of two thousand Cavalry, led by Vlaszly Burfati, were coming to the aid of the Alkatanians. Verskoyle, with no care for the common soldier, charged his men through the ten metre wide pass – against the outnumbered and outgunned Alkatanians – and yet the mountain people held, against wave after wave of Southerners. It is rumored captain Haivasky, of the Alkatanians, killed forty Southerners before being shot in the leg, and continued to stab and kill twelve Southerners, before being swamped by eager young Greenboys. If this rumour is true or not, is debatable, but it certainly formed a good story. By the end of the day, at sunset, nine thousand southerners lay on the mountain pass, to the loss of five hundred Alkatanians. Verskoyle, now using superior tactics, bombarded the Alkatanians, who were now licking their wounds, with howitzers, before a mass infantry charge. A further three hundred mountain men were dead, to the loss of four thousand Southerners. The bloody battle raged, and the pass is now called Red Pass, for several reasons, one of them being that it was painted a new colour with the blood of the dead Southerners. Although only one hundred mountain men remained, they were facing at least twelve thousand Southerners with cannon and fireshooter support. At midnight, only fifty remained and their luck had ran out. Verskoyle played his trump card and five thousand men charged up the rocky mountain, fresh reinforcements from the homeland. The Alkatanians fought bravely but every last one was killed. However, this long battle of attrition, lasting longer than it would have done to pass another way, had given the Northerners the upper hand. While Verskoyle commanded thirteen thousand men, he became outnumbered two to one – a large force of Kingsmen from Muscovia and Hogsingrad had arrived, at least twenty thousand Northerners blocked off the Southern escape. And then Valkaday played his trump card. Four thousand cavalry, led by Vlaszly ( the general had recruited two thousand more on the way from Alkatain ) were behind the Southerners, cutting off all escape. They charged into Verskoyle’s rearguard, but by the time Northern reinforcements had arrived, Verskoyle was nowhere to be seen. Captain Higgle took control, but he was nearly as incompetent as Verskoyle, and pushed half of his men against the cavalry, telling them to drop their pikes and shoot. The remaining half came round the side of the cavalry, in a vain pincer movement. However, by the time they had committed this, the cavalry had broken through and killed five thousand Southerners, and the remaining one thousand had been routed. The pincer troops found, that to their surprise, the Cavalry ignored them, and chased down the southerners. However, the pincer infantry found themselves confronted one on one with a twenty thousand, and although they fought bravely, they were no match for the determined northerners. Verskoyles force was wiped out, and Verskoyle was found in a small row boat travelling to South Hogsweat, while a Navy Cutter intercepted him and captured the General himself. In this act, the war ended, with at least seventy five thousand Southern losses, and seventy nine thousand Northern losses.
18(17)90:: Both sides are reunited, in an act of disgression, Valkaday disbanded the South Hogsweat government, and turned both nations into one. Although united together, the two islands remained hostile to each other for some time.
19(18)03:: Valkaday dies to a fever, and the crown is passed to his son, Valkaday Armason. Hogsweat flourishes under Armason’s rule, and for another fifty years the crown becomes un-rivaled.
19(18)56:: A plot to kill Armason is discovered, and the plotters are put to death by being hung, drawn, and quartered.
19(18)70:: Armason is growing old, and before he dies, the first automatic weapon is conceived, named the KA/89. It shoots five bullets a minute, something not known before.
19(18)80: Armason dies, and the throne goes down again to another Valkaday.
19(18)85:: The first vehicle is made, a primitive steam engine that carries twelve privileged members from Muscovia to Hogsingrad.
19(18)99:: The car is invented, and the ViZlion, is born, a genius of inventor Marka Vizlion.
20(19)18:: A rebellion, led by Marcus Verukus, is formed, to turn the country Socialist. It is quashed, but Valkaday is looked upon differently by everybody in the country.
20(19)20:: The rebellion returns, and this time in the form of an insurrection in Smohogensk. A farm worker is denied his wages by his master, and he incites revolution by burning his crops, and refusing to work until he is justly treated. Other farmers follow, and a small force is sent to stop them – however, by this time, governor Jugialatan thinks that everything is under control, although he issues a curfew. The curfew is broken by a small group of factory workers, who boycott their factory, staying out for two days in the cold and the heat, appealing for basic Civil Rights. Their ultimatum is rejected by Jugialatan. The boycott turns to nastiness, nastiness turns to incititement, and soon, all the factories and docks in Smohogensk are overrun by angry workers. Two thousand men and women, angry and armed with rifles and other various arms, take the garrison and arm themselves. The revolution turns to a full blown war, with nine thousand armed soldiers taking the governors house, and effectively, with it, the whole city. More are incited, and much of the population, twenty two thousand are recruited for the revolution. The army sent to Smohogensk are raw recruits, and without wishing to fight, they lend their guns, (bolt action rifles) to the revolution, arming them revolutionaries better. The red rebellion, as it is now named, hits nearby towns and recruits the farmers and workers for the cause, an army of forty thousand is easily raised, and they sweep across the east of the North, gathering strength. The garrison in Hogsingrad, twelve thousand strong, and the armies of the river, nineteen thousand, form together. However, the revolutionaries now number sixty thousand, and they march down to Muscovia. The armies of the river meet with them, and the battle of the ninth tributary, a trade town is fought, and both take horrific casualties, but the revolutionaries are determined to win, and the armies of the river are forced back, losing seventeen thousand men, turning their number from thirty one to fourteen, making them outnumbered three to one. They are reinforced by the garrison at Muscovia, four thousand elite Kingsmen. However, this is no match for the revolutionaries, and soon they raise the red flag above the governors house in Hogsingrad. Recruiting more for their mock-army, the revolutionaries advance down the river, stretching a line more then sixty-two thousand men long, armed with artillery and mortar, surround Muscovia. The armies of the river are routed, and they spread into small river settlements. Muscovia lies open, the kings soldiers are beaten, and in two days the Revolutionaries march into Muscovia, and Huskan, the red leader, puts his ultimatum to Valkaday. Surprisingly the king agrees. The treaty still remains. It reads::
The king shall recognize the people and their importance
The king may still be in control
The country shall turn to a Socialist Republic, no longer a monarchy
The king is to be premier
The Army and the Navy are to receive proper training and a refit.
Taxes are to be lowered
Everything is to be communally owned
Huskan is to be recognized as leader of Parliament
A parliament is to be formed
The welfare system, the fire service, the hospitals, the police, the prisons, the education, the factories and farms are to be refitted and changed
Followed by signatures of Huskan and Valkaday. To this day, Valkaday Jumara’s descendants are still Premiers, loved by the people.
